Does anyone know what this chip actually does? I mean, I presume it's to improve or accelerate image processing but the phone's a beast at this already so I'm curious if there's more to it than just that.
i mean, if you google it there are a lot of articles that explains it properly

but has anyone enabled 8.1 yet and noticed a difference? speed/quality? doubt anyone will notice power consumption unless taking photos all day.

I heard it's still hidden in preview? Haven't confirmed yet
Haven't found a setting for it in Developers options yet. Maybe in the next preview update...
One good thing it will allow is third party apps to utilize the awesome software behind the Pixels' strong photo abilities. Hopefully meaning we can send better photos with Snapchat
From what's been explained, the chip won't necessarily improve quality, but mainly performance for HDR+.

While I have experiencing this A LOT of times:
http://f.cl.ly/items/2S2j1B3l0h2l1B2N2k2z/Untitled.mp4
I also did a recent discovery today: The Moto X Play its faster when it comes to take pictures, also a lot faster than the N5X with HDR enable in both phones.
Im really, both amazed and disappointed by this. I switched from a Moto X Play to the N5X to find only lags and slow performance.
Anyone else have experienced something like this? Is this a general problem or my device could be defective?
You actually switched from a moto x? are you nuts?

There where a lot of complaints about the Moto X Play, i even participated in tests for find a way to speed it's performance.
And yes, while the Nexus 5X it's faster, the Moto X Play it's more stable.

How often do you need to take HDR pictures and do you really need to press the shutter every second? If you know how to selectively expose a scene properly then HDR is not needed at all. While NX5 takes excellent pictures, I only use it when extremely needed. A dedicated camera especially ones with WIFI connectivity for direct upload to social networking sites is far better than any camera phone out there.
You're experiencing lags and freezes. Serious ones too! Mine for a little slow after the April MHC19Q update. So I wiped it and it was much better after a factory reset. I also go to developer mode and turn down all three animations to to 0 and enable force GPU rendering.

Well, the problem is that it slow and freeze with only 3 or 5 HDR pictures, is not that many. And the Moto X Play, even the Nexus 4 can handle more than that. The video I uploaded was even before I take any picture, I just opened the camera app.
I blame the encryption since it doesn’t make any sense that those smartphones can handle that process faster.
About “A dedicated camera especially ones with WIFI connectivity for direct upload to social networking sites is far better than any camera phone out there.” I have used my cousin S7 Edge and its impressive fast for pictures, and with the N5X and S7 with raw support, I believe we should be able to handle without the need for a dedicated camera.
I already sent my N5X back in hope to receive a new device, maybe there was something wrong with the internal storage read/writes.

Mine was already reset to factory settings for the 3th time, so I gave up and sent it today for replacement. I don't think this is the kind of device that need the animations to be disabled, my gf Moto X Play doesn't need that, even the Nexus 4 im using right now doesn’t need that.

I just wanted to say that I sent my Nexus 5X back to LG for repairs, following own Nexus Forum recommendation:
https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/nexus/sFmrWiceXf4/bAEAdlO_BwAJ
But I got back my phone in this state:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...s5x_lg_warranty/photo_2016-08-23_17-24-10.jpg
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...s5x_lg_warranty/photo_2016-08-23_17-24-15.jpg
Also I need to say that they sent me back my phone without the box, charger, original cable and everything else inside the box.
Since the phone wasn’t rooted and was still encrypted it was a nightmare to get it working by my own, but I finally managed to install a custom recovery and from there do a clean install, but to find the LG sent my my phone without the SIM tray.
I had to buy a new charger, cable and sim tray, but I have the phone working now.
If I use the stock rom or CyanogenMod rom I still get the same exact problem in my video, but with Dirty Unicorns seems that the problem its gone for good, so i still believe its a software problem, but as long I stick to DU i should not have problems anymore :good:
I know Google stated last month a fix would be coming but compared to others mine sounds even worse. Wondering if the update was part of the 8.1 beta
Took a short video on my walk into work.
Holding my breath and just ambient noise
Bump for rma
Eeek, that's horrible. It's not in 8.1 as far as I know.
I hope they fix it soon.

Try recording again with some background noise.
It's possible to get decent sounding recording if there's only one source of sound - e.g. you're just speaking and there's no background noise of any kind.
I'm pretty sure this affects ALL 2 XLs.

I use an app called Audio Recorder and the audio is awful, even at the highest quality setting. Noticably worse than on my last phone, the MotoX Pure Edition. And it sounds much like the video in post #2. Like really, really bad compression

Just curious why Bluetooth on this phone doesn't display the streaming information across the radio (Uconnect if it matters). My sons s8+ does it as well as my previous Note 8. Just curious if theirs something I'm not doing right.

I've got the same issue. Its not just you.
I'm connecting to a Honda bluetooth system, if that makes a difference.
After 8.1, it works better with my BMW at showing the data, but it's hit or miss. It also stops working if you switch music apps, so only the first one works.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
It's because everyone implements Bluetooth items differently and there isn't a "standard" that everyone uses for even basic stuff. Since phone manufacturers implement things differently, device & car manufacturers also need to try and accommodate all the various implementations.

Well I'm still waiting on the Verizon OTA. But i definitely don't like the lack of info on the screen. I have the note sorting beside me... Test driving both... And send like such a simple thing.

Actually, for this kind of thing there is a standard called AVCRP, and the Pixel should support 1.4, but it seems to be the buggiest implementation ever since Android 7

I've noticed in developer options there are numerous settings for Bluetooth... Should i change these for display information?

The Duo video call looks really soft like there is an active face retouching; I have good WiFi (56MBps). The quality on whatsapp is equally terrible but without face retouching.
Do the custom ROMs have the same issue? Or is it just my device?
Current ROM- stock December, stock kernel, rooted with magisk
Is it the quality of the person you're video chatting with? If so, then it's probably them and not you.

I found the same thing using duo.
My face is so soft, even in high lighting, it look like a beauty filter found on Chinese phone. It wasn't doing that on my 2 previous non Google phone.
I'm not sure we can do anything about it though

From the screenshots I've taken last week while on a video chat, I look pretty fine with smile lines and facial scruff showing up. Nothing special with my internet speed 50/50. You stated you have 56 Mbps speed, that's down and up? Also for clarification, did you mean Mbps but autocorrected to MBps?

Yeah sucks it can't be disabled.
Hi I'm planning to buy one for my next phone.
Is this worth it?
I'm limited by the price or I would go for the A70
I'm very pleased with this phone, only the camera is a little disappointing, coming from S8.
I guess 2 to 1 pixel binning doesn't work very well in 2d. A70 (and A51) have 4 to 1. S-series have larger pixels on the sensor, with only 12 MP more detail and less noise.

That can be fixed via Software improvement.
But I'm thinking about the future development of this phone,,
I mean, will we get ROM and other supports by the Devs in the future...

Wait for A51, it'll come out soon if it already isn't in your country. Better cameras and what's more important better fingerprint sensor.

Devs don't seem to be very interested in supporting this phone for a number of reasons. So I'm not expecting any good custom roms soon.

I bought it today, dont care about camera at all. What i need is good screen, and this phone have it. Never Xiaomi again, my Mi 9 Lite had issue with stupid touch delay on edges of the screen had to return it.
Lack of custom roms suck but i can live with One UI after debloating.
