Hi all,
I got a new ZenFone2 Z00A yesterday and installed TWRP, LineageOS 14 and root for that device. Everything worked well so far, but i cannot use root for apps. Each app claims that this device is not rooted. The Bootloader is unlocked and root access is allowed for apps and adb. Strangely enough I can su when I connect via adb, only apps cannot.
I Googled for hours, flashed the OS new but with no avail.
Has anyone a solution for this?

Whow! such a tiny notice
Thanks a lot. It's working
I wonder, though, why it is not fixed in the official sources after a month. I always have ambivalent feelings installing such basic code from "I don't know, whom"

Did someone try to root the G3 with Towelroot?
http://towelroot.com/
Yes, it will. Even on the S5 without tripping KNOX. Just try it yourself, no risk involved. I haven`t tried it myself but i`am absolutely sure it will get you root.
Good to know.
I should get my G3 next week so I will definitely use it.
Thanks.

Just confirmed with my international D855 unit.
Works flawlessly. Tested with Root checker and Titanium backup.
Still dazed as to how this works... possibly the fastest root method ever! :good:

Appearently its a vulnurability in all android kernels that are build before june 3rd that lets the exploit do its work and install root during the boot sequence without beeing detected.
Yes. It's amazing. This guy have a great talent. He just left the iOS system and went for Android (He developed the iOS Jailbreak). Now Chainfire and other good developers here have competition
Working good

Yes, it works with all android devices atm and a data factory reset or flashing a factory image will unroot.

I've never worried about the 'warranty voided' stories. If software could physically damage a device then the device is poorly made. I had three different rooted Samsung that failed due to the 'sudden death syndrome'. They were all fixed under warranty. Never heard of anyone having problems with warranty on a rooted device - only urban myths!

Rooting has always voided warranty. .. There were just ways to return it to stock like it was never rooted.

Not with my rooted phones - any that died or had faults have always been fixed under warranty - going right back to the 'Hero'. If I buy a brand name Windows PC, wipe the hard disk and install Linux, the manufacturer still has to honour their hardware warranty under EU law. Same with mobiles/phones/tablets.
Maybe North American consumer protection laws are not as good as those here in Europe.
For instance, in the EU we can return anything we buy via mail order for a full refund within 14 days for any reason under the 'distance selling' regulations. Goods bought in shops or via mail order also have to be of 'merchantable quality'. As it currently stands, EU customers could obtain a full refund for the LG G3 as it does not work reliably with the Google Chromecast. This is probably why Samsung fixed a similar problem with a software patch when some of their devices had the same problem.

Sucessfully rooted my D855 using Towelroot as well.Tested with root checker and adblock to verify it's working.
One problem I had was when I installed SuperSU,it says need to have binary updated. However, when I clicked "Normal"..it says installation failed?

Doing so removes your root access (as you expect) but your device will still refuse to install OTA's

Alright.. I decided to try it again and now SuperSU works flawlessly.
I think you need to reboot and run it again. This time for me, it didn't ask me for a binary update. Just started working. Try it.

OK so I can unroot with SuperSu, the only disadvantage is no OTA, and to unroot with OTA I'd need to perform factory reset, right? How to do it?
After Factory reset,
Do LG backup app restore the whole rom with settings and apps, please?

Ok hi everyone. My name is Brian and Im an Androidaholic. Nice to meet you.
So my nexus 5 is ooc at the moment due to a faulty power button that keeps it rebooting so I am using my gf's old optimus g pro. It is an e980 running e98020h.
I typically use nexus devices and do all my rooting via adb commands. Looking through all the various different methods people use to root this device has me overwhelemd and confused.
All I know is that I would like to do this:
Root device
Install TWRP
Install CM or AOSP based ROM
Call it a day.
Direction to a proper info thread or a quick little tut response would be so awesome. Thanks so much everyone!
rooted with towelroot but adb install of twrp did not seem to work and neither did install with this "freegee" app that I tried....that one just gave a bunch of errors
read somewhere to try gprorecovery. downloaded it. ran it. reboot to recovery.....hang on LG logo forever. any thoughts?
so i installed cm12 and now i have no cell service. no apns?

No. It doesn't. At least my keys weren't affected. But immediately after rooting with Kingroot I used the replace Kingroot with SU program and everything went fine.

Hi mate,
what method did you use to root 5.1.1?
I spent hours last night clearing 5gb of space on c:\ so I could update my z1 to 5.1 using pc companion.
Finally got it updated and now I realise kingroot doesnt work on 5.1 yet.
Any pointers would be much appreciated,
Cheers

One user in Kingroot thread says they rooted using an older version, (I think he said 4.1). I haven't looked into it more than that, but maybe worth a look. Besides that, probably a PRF is your only option with locked BL for now.

Cheers mate, I'll look into that older version of kingroot, failing that I'll wait (and hope) for them to update kingroot as I'm too chicken to go the PRF route... yet.
Thanks for the tip

BY mistake I made a thread in general note4 section.

Anyone willing to help out?
EDIT: was able to root once but then everytime it just reboots the phone - at first cause was I didn't accept the "installation of the application" battery is low so maybe that could be the the reason..

I had the same problem a few hours ago. Kingo Root refused to work at all, so I had to use the Kingroot app. It made my phone lag like crazy after it rooted it, but it eventually worked. When you use either Kingo Root or Kingroot, what's the exact error that you get? Are you using Root Checker to see if you achieved root?
I always did a factory reset before starting the root process, it just seemed to make things go smoother. At least it would stay stable long enough to get all the adb stuff done. (Barely though )

I was able to root once and run the script and it changed the CID or whatever it was. Now I simply cannot get temp root at all to finish the bootloader unlock process. Tried PC version and Android version so many times now it just reboots and reboots.

That sucks, to be honest it's been awhile since I did the unlock process. Maybe something changed with the way that app roots. Have you already tried an older version of kingroot? I know you've probably tried all this stuff but sometimes things get overlooked.

Would you happen to know which rom supports more languages other then default ones? shipping this phone to Europe tomorrow, don't know how stable CM roms are.
I was on NOF27B (7.1.1) rooted with a full install of TWRP. I signed up for beta testing 7.1.2 and started to install NPG47I thinking that it wouldn't due to being rooted. Nope! Phone restarted into 7.1.2 and now my google store pixel is unrooted with the stock recovery. Is it safe to root again or am I stuck for a bit?
Not sure anyone knows as of yet, guess you just have to try and see if it works or not. Likely worst case is a reflash of 7.1.1 to regain root and TWRP.

Your bootloader is unlocked you will be able to root the same as before. Boot into TWRP using fastboot and flash SU
Any idea as to why it even let me download and install the OTA while I was rooted? I didn't think that would be possible.
I just used a guy named Jovan Brown for rooting services.
I don't know if he has a website.. did a great job of rooting and unlocking my pixel xl, remotely.
It took him quite a while.. totally worth paying him.

Every time you update stock you will have to reroot. I was also able to update with the ota while rooted but was unable when the second beta dropped. I manually installed and am still rooted with twrp same as 7.1.1. Android O however is a totally different can of worms which you will not be able to root...yet

Does it matter what version of TWRP or SuperSU I use to root 7.1.2?
Because it did not work when I did the following:
fastboot booted twrp-3.0.2-0-RC1-fastboot-marlin.img
then installed twrp-pixel-installer-marlin-3.1.0-0RC2.zip
then installed SuperSU 2.79.zip
What am I doing wrong?
EDIT: apparently nothing... it worked the second time around
