hello,
I have Tmobile Galaxy Note 3 and would like to know if there is a way to enable carrier aggregation?
I really need this feature because I am headed to South Korea and Australia for 3 months on my research business trip. All carriers in those countries use Carrier Aggregation and in order to have service, I would need a device with carrier aggregation. I don't want to purchase another phone cause my phone is working fine.
Also, I have checked with the major carriers in those use bands compatible with my phone. I also know that Note 3 has snapdragon 800 3rd generation gobi LTE modem that supports this. So is there a way to enable that feature?
Anyone?
There is a way. I have a T-Mobile Note 3 and I've done it, though T-Mobile doesn't use CA yet, so I have no way to test it. Also, just so you know, Carrier Aggregation cannot combine any 2 LTE frequencies; it's specific pairs, like Band 2 and Band 17.
Anyways, my instructions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57178013&postcount=80

Thank you so much! I will look into it. T-Mobile does have carrier aggregation in Dallas, TX and Atlanta,GA, binding band 2 and band 4.
Just a minor change btw, you have to choose REL 10 if you didn't. It's actually not optional. Let me know if it works, because there's no CA here in NYC
The way to check if it's working is if you dial the same dialer code after that and go to Basic Information -> As Information.
If you see "CA Enabled but Not Configured", it means it's turned on on the phone, but not the towers you're connected to. If you see "CA Setting Wrong", do the steps over and turn on LTE REL 10. Otherwise, if it's on and working, you should see two frequencies listed. There are pictures on the next page in that thread showing what it looks like.

Awesome I edited my above post to add more info on how to make sure it's working.
Can you post a screenshot of the AS Information screen just to make sure?

It's not letting me attach the screenshot because I am a new user and need to be a member for at least a week. Optus 4G Australia is my carrier currently.
But it says:

Holy crap! It works! That's awesome! That's Band 1800 (Band 3) and Band 700 MHz (Band 17). Sorry, I just have one last question (I promise). This is 100% the SM-900T (T-Mobile US model?). What modem/baseband (Settings -> About Phone)?

Baseband is N900TUVUNENK3 running Android 4.4.2. I haven't rooted either.
I am not getting 4G LTE. It is staying on H (hspa). I have the one plus one and get LTE.
The info online says this phone should have all of the bands required.
Any ideas.
Thank you

Check Settings - Mobile Network settings - Preferred Network Type and set it to LTE if you have this option and is not already set.
But I doubt that this is your problem. You bought the Taiwanese phone, didn't you? While OnePlus supports all ATT LTE bands (17, 4, 2), the Taiwanese Zenfone 2 doesn't support band 17 (nor ww model), which is otherwise typical for less inhabited aeries in the USA, but it seems that is widely used by ATT. Try the phone in the downtown or another city and you'll probably catch the LTE on other frequencies.
Yes I purchased it from Taiwan but all of the sites show so many bands for this phone. Asus does a terrible job with their model numbers. There are so many different versions with the same model number. There is a 4 g setting not lte and that is selected. I did pick up 4g while driving through part of the city.
Is there going to be a US model?
Thank you
Yes. There is a US model and its supposed to be released in the next month or so. The link below, click on specs, shows the LTE bands for each region. Clearly shows the Taiwanese model not having the 17 band.
http://www.asus.com/Phones/ZenFone_2_ZE551ML
That stinks. I took that page as it will work in all of these markets. Oh well
Thanks

Where in US are you?
There are some areas in the US that are only on LTE band 17. I suspect that's OP's issue.

I looked at it and TW, WW and US all have 1700 bands if that's what you are referring to. If not can you shed some light?

The topic is about bands not frequencies. There is nothing such as 1700 LTE band. Actually both USA and TW phones work on approximate LTE 700 MHz but bands are different because uplink and downlink are different. So TW model works on band 28 and US one on 17.

I see now. Tnx for the quick response. Hopefully I'm not outta luck when the phone arrives tomorrow from TW. Do you think that flashing later on a radio or baseband will solve this issue?
It's not that simple. Luckily Intel chip supports all LTE bands. But they must be activated in kernel too. Maybe someone will find the method to activate the missed ones. Otherwise you are not so bad. With TW phone you are short of only one LTE band of four major in the USA, Europeans missed 2 of 3.

I'm stuck with NO data on my Zenfone 2 with T-Mobile.

Frequency wise is matches everything AT&T needs, i just picked up my 4g/64gb TW model, i'll be playing with apn's to see if i can get lte to pop. Only getting H+ so far.
Correction, shipped with WW firmware, no 700mhz for us.
More - As posted above, this Taiwanese version is missing the LTE band 17. And there are some areas that this may be the only band available, so you will not have LTE in those situations.
Thanks so much.... I was having a heck of time here with my Zenfone 2 in Tucson AZ on T-mobile.... I was stuck on 2G... but updating the APN to fast.t-mobile.com and 2 reboots seems to have done the trick. So glad I don't have to EBAY this! THANKS AGAIN.... Loving this thing so far!
Well ****! This is where I am stuck win H+ on ATT.
No way around this huh unless someone does a new rom? Or is it hardwired?
Hello everyone. I have a rooted Pixel XL on 7.1.1.
I can use the Network Signal Guru app to see the available bands but the locking option is disabled.
The internet told me to go to Engineering/Service Mode/Menu. The app Shortcut Manager Lite shows no such thing. I REALLY want to lock my band to a certain one as my phone always decides to choose the slow one. It's easy on Samsung phone or so I've heard. Did Google block this?
I don't mean the LTE only or CDMA/GSM selection. I mean the specific LTE bands. (For eg. 5,40) No Verizon. International unblocked version.
Cheers. Thanks.
Bump?
Also fun fact, my parents call the Pixel XL The Megapixel. Hehe.
Sorry for bumping.
Had the same issue with the Nexus 6P even after trying different radio versions with Cyanogenmod 13 and Android 7.1.X stock. On the Nexus 5X I didn't have any problems accessing the band locking option but I found this to resolve the issue on the Nexus 6P: http://www.trona-tech.net/network-signal-guru-on-nexus-6p/
I had to flash the "Engineering Radio" that I found using that link...perhaps one needs to flash the equivalent "Engineering Radio" on the Pixel to enable band locking with Network Signal Guru?
If you flash a custom ROM you can get band locking.
Fyi, on one of the official XL builds I was able to do the locking in that app. Haven't been able to in any of the last few builds. I told the developer but he wanted me to test and find what build/radio it was but I ain't got time for that.

More the fact a developer volunteered to resolve the problem and asked you for some information and you refused to help. You're the worst kind of user.
Great point. So all of us on this forum aren't using our phones as daily drivers and are willing and able to spend hours to flash various builds and radios and do testing and increase risk of bricking?
There are different levels of users on this forum you know.

Great to hear! If you don't mind can you share your:
1) PureNexus Version
2) Radio/Baseband Version (perhaps the same radio from 7.1.1 stock?)
3) That you're still using the free version of Network Signal Guru you lock LTE bands?
Thanks!

Yes could you please share more info...are you using this app on stock rooted 8.1? Name of app? And would you happen to know what are the preferred bands? I'm on metro pcs using a tmobile apn if that matters...

Out of the box, I mean install application and that's all
Not needed flashing modified radio.img etc..
Network Signal Guru, available in Play Store.
I'm rooted, stock 8.1, all working fine.
Which bands I prefer? It depends on the carrier and country.
Here in Poland (and probably most EU country's) LTE bands are 3, 7, 8, 20.
And the better band is the one that is less loaded and on which I have better speeds.
Just test it.

Look..You're in US so you need to look for US band on T-Mobile.
I've found this article:
https://www.phonearena.com/news/Che...on-T-Mobile-and-Sprint-use-in-the-USA_id77933
Based on this, T-Mobile US bands are 2, 4, 12, 66, 71**
**Rolling out in 2017.
T-Mobile
Finally, T-Mobile has been the loudest and arguably the fastest growing 4G LTE network, especially in the big cities.
2017 Update: T-Mobile has won a big 30MHz chunk of spectrum in an auction held this summer. The frequencies that it is now allowed to operate are in the low-band, 600MHz band, and are referred to as 4G LTE band 71. The new band 71 is rolling out to cities in Wyoming, Northwest Oregon, West Texas, Southwest Kansas, the Oklahoma panhandle, Western North Dakota, Maine, Coastal North Carolina, Central Pennsylvania, Central Virginia and Eastern Washington by the end of 2017. This is expected to boost its coverage by 6 million people to a total of 321 million Americans.
Currently, T-Mobile's main band is still band 4 (AWS) in the 1700 MHz range. Band 2 is used in markets where band 4 is not available, but the two are also aggregated for better coverage in markets, where both are available.
Band 12, on the other hand, is where a lot of T-Mobile's growth happens. While at the beginning of the roll-out in late 2014, few phones supported band 12, currently, most popular phones do and the increased penetration of the lower-frequency band makes it preferable.
Click to collapse
But, I don't know if this tech spec is current.
Someone else from T-Mobile US need to confirm.
For example EU bands are not current, because based on this, in Poland we have bands 3, 7, 20 (1800, 2600, 800) but we stating to use LTE900 (band8) and also slowly starting LTE2100 (I don't remember which band it is).
So best for you is to test downloads speeds on your every band, just uncheck all in Network Signal Guru, leave only one, save and test download speed with some speed test app, back to NSG, select different band, save and test again and again and again...
Look for best band for your needs.

Does the official global rom come with Google Play installed, or does it still need to be added?
Also, can you download and play movies from Google Play, or use the download feature on Netflix? Neither of those work on my Mi4C.
This is the only thing holding me back from ordering a Mi6. Really hoping that stuff works, since the Mi6 is not China-only like the Mi4C.
Enjoying it so far?

I believe EE doesn't use band 20, so it's golden.
I come from a Moto X 2014. I'm on three and I've had LTE coverage everywhere I went. Mind you, I'm in London and if I venture into the country I might not get LTE there, as band 20 is also used by three, possibly in less populated areas.

what app did you use to see what the bands are?
I have same problem the 5G doesn't show how I can fix it ????
I think that band menu changes based on sim card inserted. Try with different sim card which uses that band
