Flip cover support in Lineage? - LineageOS Questions & Answers

New to lineage, just installed it on an elderly Galaxy S4 (partly because of KRACK paranoia).
I have installed lineage-14.1-20171018-nightly-jfltexx-signed on a Galaxy S4 LTE (GT-I9505).
So far everything works fine, smooth as butter, but I am missing the "SView" flip cover functionality.
While my phone reacts (goes dark) when I close the cover, all the functions of the transparent window in the cover (time, call info, alarms, etc.) do not work.
As far as I have found out, this seems to be implemented in the "FlipFlap" system app in LineageOS. It should appear in the settings as soon as the cover ist detected.
I was not able to find the app in /sytsem/apps or /system/priv-apps. How can I get this to work? Preferably without building the whole OS myself.
Any help is appreciated!

[App] Flip Case Control - Auto Screen On/Off

I need help with testing for this device and flip style cases.
I had a bunch of requests for Wave Control to have this functionality. Flip Case Control simply turns off the screen with the case is closed and turns it on when it is opened and it is designed to work using as little battery as possible. (I left it running all night ~8.5 hours and the battery dipped 1% more than usual)
IMPORTANT: If your case is black or dark on the inside, the sensor doesn't read correctly when the case is closed. To fix this, put a piece of light colored tape on the inside of the case where it lines up with the sensor (located next to the front camera)
Note: A Samsung based ROM is required. CM doesn't seem to work well.
Demo video:
Thanks! (crossing fingers it works without needing modification)
Edit (10/20/2012)
Taking it out of beta for this device with V1.05

It works as shown in the youtube video on the I9300 BUT the other versions of the SGSIII use a different proximity sensor and I'm worried there's a issue with flip case like there is on the Note.
Could you guys try it out and see if it works like in the youtube video on the I9300? I'm not in the US right now so I don't have easy access to the non I9300 versions.
Note: A Samsung based ROM is required. CM doesn't seem to work well.

Here's the trial version of the app to test out. (The Play Store version is limited to the I9300 for now)
Once it's working correctly, I can post the full version.

Just tried it using my ATT SGS3. It works fine. Only issue I saw was that it takes about 3-5 seconds for the screen to shut off, so if you close then open the cover quickly, the screen is still on.
Thanks,
Dave
I've noticed a fairly large drop in battery since installing. About 7 percent in a little over an hour. This was with out using my phone at all. So while it seems it works ok, it looks like a battery hog and I have uninstalled for now.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for letting me know. Maybe I've got a bug in the trial version. I'll test it out today on my phone and see if I get similar results.
After uninstalling can you confirm that your battery performance went back to normal?
V1.05
Just uploaded version 1.05 to the Play Store
Changes:
Reduced false triggers for screen off
Changed button UI
Added notice about dark cases
Updated icon
Sped up screen on response a little bit
Version 1.10
Just put out to the Play Store V1.10:
-Reworked detection method much more robust now
-Option to disable the sensitivity changes from V1.05
-Option for longer timeout for Screen Off
Let me know if I broke anything!

Any chance of this working on the note 10.1.?
If you send me the apk I will try it out for you as play store won't allow install.

Unfortunately the Note 10.1 doesn't have a proximity sensor so this app won't work.
At least that's what I've confirmed on the Wifi version. I guess there's a small chance the 3G version may have one. See if you can install Wave Control. I haven't blocked any devices on that app and it requires the prox sensor too.

Wave Control wont let me install from the play store either, so guess thats the end of the road !
Version 1.20:
1. New Swipeable UI - Swipe left for settings, Swipe right for Night Disable
2. New Night Disable Mode - Shut off the sensor at night while you sleep. Saves a tiny bit of battery and keeps you from keeping the sensor on 24/7.
3. Auto Start on Boot works on the Trial Version now.
4. Bug fixes
I'm still not happy with the UI. It's functional for presenting the new functionality but I need to polish it up a bit.
What do you all think?
Any other features/options you would like to see?
Its working fine for me. Just as someone said before, there's some lag for the screen shut off.

[q]cm10 for our note's?

Will it ever come to our device?
I come from international note 1 forums where cm10 was plentiful lol! Nah for-real though.I read around a lot and from what I gathered its gonna be near impossible till Samsung releases a proper source code... smh... correct me if I'm wrong.
I thought cm 10 was basically jb and jb is what our phone has. . And does man or hasn't even been a week yet and yet we are already rooted and have several custom roms to choose from.

There a couple of threads going about this on the international forums - In a nutshell, the official maintainers of exynos devices are fed up with Samsung's lack of release proper source. Until that happens, the best we can expect is a port/KANG.
Here's one particular thread where Entropy weighs in on his thoughts:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941039
There's another one buried in the International general forums but I can't seem to find it at the moment.
EDIT - I don't know why you'd want AOSP on this phone, though. It's so buttery smooth and Touchwiz adds a lot of benefits on this phone - even more so when the Multiview patch gets pushed to us. I'd just wait for an AOSP theme and just flash that.

As someone who's come from AOSP I can't see why anyone would keep this nonsense on the phone any longer than necessary. The calendar is a prime example IMHO- other the gimmicky S-Pen notes on a picture of the calendar, the calendar doesn't separate Sync and display like CM- so I can't keep track of what my wife is up to without having to see all her appointments. The screen palm/capture thing is also tied to media hub and the rest of the (as far as I can tell ) completely useless bloatware (samsung suggest? tied to yahoo? Please.). I can't figure out how to change the toggles on the notification bar (please, please tell me there's a way to put whatever you want like sound in there as a toggle).. Wifi tether or the lack of it is another issue. Then there's the amaturish and completely annoying startup and shutdown sounds. Really, you have to disturb a meeting to shut down your phone? There's no over/under clocking except via the somewhat vague "battery optimization". Rooting and Nova has taken care of my major launcher problems. I guess I might miss S-beam unless CM ports it but honestly, I've found it extremely tedious to use IRL and not encountered anyone else who uses it has outside of the two hipsters near the apple line and the oh-so-sweet wife of the traveler.
I can't wait for CM10 so we can get Paranoid Android! It would be nice to have the status bar on the bottom within reach. I'm going to try to patiently wait it out and let the N2 price drop. My local Sprint stores are sold out anyways.

I much prefer Cm 10 as well but if it doesn't use the Spen then I'm gonna stick with touchwiz. Never thought I'd say that but I use the pen more than the keyboard by far now that I'm getting used to it. I just want a dark theme doesn't even have to be AOSP just not cartoony & imbelIished

you can still use the Spen with CM10 i use it on the galaxy note 10.1 you just can't use the samsung apps like Snote, however there are many alternates that you can use that perform the same functions in the play store. so cm10 is definitely something worthwhile on these note devices if you are an aosp fan.
I want a nice stable version of MIUI and I'll be a happy camper. Keyword is STABLE...so I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Nice. Now if only it was possible to shrink the buttons down a bit, add the search button, and only have them pop up when the s-pen is out it'd be perfect

If you're rooted, try and app called "Button Savior (Root)"
You can toggle the buttons with a click of an on screen button.
Been using this for the past few days and I love it.

Still can't wait for CM10 and PA. PA has the best boot animations.

I also miss being able to kill apps with the back button.
+1 for CM10. I really hate all the gimmicky crap on touchwiz, I still have my GSIII which is running CM10 and it is so much nicer. It also made the GSIII faster so I don't see how the same wouldn't apply to the Note2 (although it is plenty fast as is), it has to, all the stock roms that include touchwiz are upwards of 700MB and CM10 is about 150MB, that's a lot of bloat

Stock option just press the S-Pen button and draw a "less than" symbol "<" on the screen and that's your back function.
Also for menu just hold the S-Pen button and draw a "^" symbol and that's your menu command.
Good stuff! Is there a a gesture for Home? I find it tricky to press the Home button with the pen.
I saw the samsung galaxy note2 n7100 has begun getting nighltlies. Does that mean we will get it soon?

[Q] Optimal Setup for automobile | Help with Setup Ideas

Nexus 7 (2013) Running latest lollipop
I keep tablet in car essentially permanently. Landscape mode. I decided I wanted to optimize the setup to mimic a modern car system. Tablet through Bluetooth in car and tethered to my phone (still have my Verizon unlimited data ).
I use mighty text to sync texts from phone. I don't bother trying to take calls on tablet.
I'm using apex or nova and customizing home screen primarily by enlarging icons and removed dock altogether.
I'm 80% there. My last step is what I'm struggling with. I want multiwindow. Ideally divided similar to some cars... Where you might have navigation on large screen and tell smaller screens with text and music, for example. Floating, resizable windows would be best.
I've read and watched tutorials using xposed and modules like xmultiwindow, xhalo, and others. I have xposed installed but I can't get modules to work correctly. I imagine this is due to the alpha nature of xposed with lollipop. I really like the idea of floating windows. If there was a recent version of omnirom or paranoid I'd gladly use it, but I can't find anything newer than 4.4.4.
So, hoping for suggestions. If I was a developer id make an optimized ROM to suit these needs and share. Call it autoROM or something!
Thanks as always!

Does Sketchbook Pro run Smith enough on this tablet?

Hello I just ordered one of these off eBay for $80 in excellent condition but I feel like I should've asked if sketchbook runs smooth enough on here? I know it's old hardware, but still better than Snapdragon 410 in Galaxy A tab. I wanted a small tablet with s pen (Wacom). I don't need it for anything else I have an iPhone 6s and i7 desktop and Skylake i3 laptop
what version JB 4.1.2 or 4.2.2? Hopefully you didn't get 4.4.2.
As of this month I finally got the best ever overall operation in 4.4.2. But it is not anywhere as perfect as 4.1.2 or 4.2.2
If by chance you have KK, you can either root and use a custom kernel or do the S Note fix to correct the spen pixel issue
It is easy to do, but any complain about it being trial and error. Once you get the knack, you'll wonder why you had such a problem in the first place.
I have the app in question along with Layer Paint HD, and Paper Artist. once you align your spen in KK, you won't have any issues with drawing apps.
There are custom ROMs that correct the spen issue but some still need work as they are not 100% fully functional as stock is.
Since I require perfect miracast functions, with minimal bugs with a nice layout. I was forced into manually selecting components from S5, Tab 4 and Note 2 stock ROMs, along with some ported system apps distributed by Devs. Some very few apps are from dead ROMs, where the Dev let rot away.
Yes you can run S5 apps in stock form, just need to root and run Xposed with app settings. Some apps require 320 or so DPI, and others may require 190 or 220. It is a trial and error, but they are stock, and with a build.prop mod, you can update them on Play or Galaxy.
I run the latest versions of Tab 4 version and S5 version of Peel Smart Remotes. As S5 has a better layout.
Some apps like Kids mode need a small tweak with a saved older sub app to run, though the lock screen widget interactions and gator animations are missing.
I run my N5110 as a T330 (Tab 4 8.0) in my build prop, 90% of the time, with out any issues with my apps. The remainder of my usage is in S5 form, as my Chrome Dev browser with Samsung's chrome customization system app, operates a wee better browsing on the Internet. Seems that the updated versions are not so device dependant in the build.prop requirements.
Hello thanks! Sounds good I don't have the device yet. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions. Hopefully it's not 4.4.2 like you said.
Okay sadly it has 4.4.2 Can yuu point me in the direction of the spen fix?
By the way I have SAMSUNG-SGH-I467 sounds like it's hard to root this device?

Well, now that CM is dead. Where do I go for updated ROMs with the features I liked?

I have been trying some of the other roms here for the Nexus 5x. resurrection, pixel rom, pure nexus. I have figured out that there are only four things I REALLY need in a ROM. all the rest is fluff. Im sure everyone has their own list.
1. Ability to run rooted firewall so my device isnt open to the world and whatever app devs think they want to know about me.
2. Dark theme for longer battery life and easy eye strain.
3. Some version of Privacy Guard so that some random calculator app isnt sending my list of contacts to some app developer in China.
4. A blocklist that is integrated into the dialer and messenger like CM so i can just touch a number or text and say block.
SO I am using the last CM13 nightly before they went to 14.1. I tried the last CM14.1 and trying to get dark mode to work even with Substratum and several different skins gave me really random results, like it looked good but couldnt see keyboard input in Messaging, or one of the roms didnt even have a messaging app so I tried an old AOSP one floating around on Play and it was terrible (and no block option). I would love to update my phone to Nougat but really feel like I'm stuck back here for a bit. If any of you know some Nougat roms i could try for my 5X that address the features above, please let me know.
Thanks!
I reccomend you AICP. It's preety similar to CyanogenMod but with more customizations.

they are working on it but its based on AOSP and as such there doesnt seem to be privacy guard. plus the default dialer doesnt work so you have to uninstall it and use the Google dialer which i really dont want to do for privacy reasons.
@fedesandor
thanks for the AICP recommend. it looks like Nexus 5x development has stalled but ill keep an eye on that rom. their download site doesnt come up for me so ill keep checking. it looks like ill have to wait for a Lineage release or a CM derivative Nougat rom.
thanks for your suggestions.

2. Nexus 5X has IPS LCD, so there shouldn't be any impact on battery life. Only OLED displays can absolutely shut down the pixels, which in fact reduces energy consumption.
3. Isn't that native in Marshmallow and up? I mean app permissions.
I use Resurrection Remix, has all the CM features plus some others really useful
About the privacy guard thing, since MM it is built in native on the system right?

Sorry for the "OT" but what are the concerns about using google dialer? I use to install it always and remove aosp dialer because it is updated in google play with good features
Pure Nexus is the way to go with this device.
Didn't try CM14 or AICP /Resurrection, which base on it, but the old PrivacyGuard was definitely more comfortable&useful than Nougat-AppSettings. But be honest: all those switches gave you a feeling to manage anything and made no smarmy app safe.
DarkTheme doesn't give longer battery-life, as said before.
AOSP-dialer allows to define blocked numbers.
I recommend AOSP: PureNexus or Slim, without GApps and with clean 3rd party apps.

e.g. Amazon App Store?
@neth15, I use this one
@Javi22 i have tried resurrection remix and had some trouble with the dark theme, but maybe i have been deluded about saving battery with dark themes anyway. but i have gotten used to having a more subtle phone screen so that bright stuff hurts my eyes.
@neth15 regardless of the technology, more light = more power doesnt it? isnt that just math? ill do some searches on the different type of display tech. maybe i am thinking old math.
@rp158 the permissions that are cooked into nougat dont seem as comprehensive, plus those are the ones that google stuck in there. i think they call it the fox guarding the henhouse. i appreciated privacy guard because it was added by CM (maybe a derivative of earlier google stuff) and seemed to pop up more often then the inbuilt permissions. the reason i even want a non-stock rom is so i dont have every google app telling google what sms i get, what numbers i dial, and where i go. i know it may be a futile gesture at this point, but i still feel a little stubborn about it.
and the blocklist thing is ridiculous. i tried AICP and i could manually enter a number to block but couldnt figure out how to block from the call log or add the BLOCKED contact i have stuck some 75 numbers under. it could be user error, but the old CM integrated blocklist was sweet. i have had a serious stalker for six weeks now and i have to block three or four numbers a day.
i wanted to try the latest PureNexus last night but even after following directions to the letter multiple times (wipe, flash, reboot) i couldnt get past the "android is starting" screen so i guess i have something to try today.

AFAIK no. Displays combine red, green and blue subpixels to create other colors. So if the screen is supposed to be black, subpixels still shine, but at different rates and ratios. Maybe not that hard, but I guess the difference is minimal to none. Correct me if I'm wrong.
BTW I'm using PureNexus + Substratum + ModernUI, pretty sick
Right now I reinstalled to the latest version with no problems. Just flash newest factory image, newest TWRP, PureNexus, GApps and SuperSU in this order. Works just fine.
EDIT: And yes, I'm using OpenGapps.
I'm using DirtyUnicorns 7.1.1, great rom
@neth15 i just got purenexus to install by using the dynamic gapps instead of opengapps. which opengapps did you use? i tried to use open_gapps-arm64-7.1-pico-20161215.zip and that didnt seem to work. what are you using for a themeable SMS app? i tried to use AOSP messaging and it doesnt theme, and the xda themeable one from the Substraum Domination thread crashes repeatedly. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/themes/theme-domination-theme-layers-t3265238. anyway ill keep working on it.
@dcarrco I use nano, on their site they say it contains basics to make GP work + some things, that are not available in GP (face recognition in Smart Lock I guess, but I'm not sure, thinking just by looking at install log).
I use SMS in Facebook Messenger, so sorry, idk What about Google's Messenger?

or spend some time finding a good quality Call/SMS blocklist/blacklist manager that works well and integrates to my ROM well. i dont really understand why there isnt more energy going into these features. yeah sure, circle menus and cool animations are interesting, but having to deny 10 calls a day from marketers seems like a much larger waste of time. i hear daily from co-workers how may marketing calls the get, what a drag it is, how much time and energy slowly accrues dealing with that. iphone people cant even figure out a way to silence that stuff. at least in android we had something. now with nougat the pay apps like extreme call blocker dont integrate to SMS and the best fatures (like hanging up on the person instead of sending them to VM) dont even work. arggh. well. frustrating.
ok. i looked at Google Dialer and Google Messenger. they both allow the kind of thing i want, to select a message or call and add that number to BlockList. the only piece still missing, for some reason, is the ability to block UNKNOWN and PRIVATE callers. CM used to do that. any idea if its coming back?
CM aint dead, it is rebranded
[ROM][Official] CyanogenMod/LineageOS 14.1 for Nexus 5X (bullhead)
@Android-Desire I have been reading all that but so far not much happening. I'm keeping my eye on it and have posted over there that I'd like them to keep the blacklist stuff. we shall all see.
