Ubuntu Touch OS???? - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Questions & Answers

Hey guys and developers..I was wondering did any of teh developers her ever think about porting ubuntu touch to our device zuk z2...or does it not make sense?? cuz i find it looks cool...Im not sure if its possible but its worth the ask

I might be wrong about it, but i think ubuntu touch project alongwith a few others like mir,etc have been scrapped by cannonical. So probably that won't be coming to any devices. It was a really great mobile os though.

Tri-Boot Your Evo

The fact that the HD2 can boot Android, WinMo6.5, and Windows Phone 7 makes me mad and jealous.
I don't know how many of you there are out there that would like to have the ability to run anything but android on our phones. I agree, Android is superior and is amazing and all, but I get bored sometimes and before you tell me to flash a new ROM... in the end they're all Android. Why not have the ability to flash different OPERATING SYSTEMS onto our phone? I mean hey, if the HD2 can do it so can we!
I understand there is a great deal of work involved in all of this but I'm sure there are others out there like myself who would enjoy such a feature. I created this thread in order to bring those people together so maybe we could find a few developers interested in getting this going.

Well there is a dualboot project underway by a developer Uncorupted. Right now its between 2 android roms, but its still progress.
P.S. you might get flamed for posting here.
Would be nice to try. Good luck!

I've been following the dual boot project and it's definitely something I'm going to make use of (Running CM and a Sense rom... what's better than that?), but at the same time I know there's a handful of people who are interested in running winmo or windows phone 7 on their EVO. This is an amazing piece of hardware and I think it'd be great if we could figure out a way to make more things work on it.

The dev support for the HD2 is superior to the EVO because of its worldphone (GSM) capabilities. Although it would be awesome to have the choices, I doubt it will ever happen on a Sprint device.
It kinda sucks because I feel like the phone has so much potential if it were running on more OS's

I don't see why not, in the coming future. I'd love to see this beauty tri-booting Android, Ubuntu and Windows Phone. It's such a great device. I have great development expectations for it.

Wow that sounds like a bloody mess.... You're going to have a lot of apps installed 3 times! Youtube, mail,... SMS issues come into play! Oh no! Which OS got that important SMS? Conversations over Whatsapp or Line cannot be installed on multiple devices that accept sim cards.
I'd pick one OS and stick to it, even though I'm also a tech enthusiast. I'm VERY interested in the Ubuntu phone. It looks great I'm for sure going to give it a try. But I'm personally not interested in dual let alone tri-boot phones. haha.

ubuntu for epicmtd?

I realize the epic is the little brother of the nexus. With a key board. Do you think our phone will be one of the first to have a kang? Who is going to be working on this? I feel like we should be making a team or something. Better dev in numbers.

Shouldn't we first wait for it till it becomes officially available? I think it's still too early to talk about this...

ubuntu for andriod = android based ubuntu native apps and android apps docking support for a full desktop experiance
ubuntu for phone = 100% ubuntu based os. running on andriod kernal and android drivers... no android os. at all full docking support for desktop experiance from on the go to at home instantly.
Maybe I should ree iterate my post. I'm strictly referring to Ubuntu for phone
rumours say... (and i know thats a bad way to start off..) but rumours say they will be releasing a clockwork mod flashable in the next couple of weeks.. i dont know if this will include binarys..(which i realize is a big thing to have for devs porting to other devices) but on the web site ubuntu released that there will be phones on the market by september.. which to me means they will have to be releasing the flashable soon so app makers themers etc can start their work...
i just might be a little to exited...

Ubuntu touch

I was wondering if anyone knows of plans on porting Ubuntu touch to the Zenfone 2 as it has an Intel chip and would be ideal for running Ubuntu also what do you at XDA think about it and whether or not it should be ported over?
I have used Ubuntu touch preview in the past on a nexus 5 but I think the Zenfone 2 might have great support for Ubuntu touch including the 4 gb ram and that intel chip.

Well I think Ubuntu touch would be an amazing port and would be an amazing ROM on the zenfone 2 4gb version then again not sure how many users on xda are but I am also a huge Linux fan.
I would love to test out Ubuntu Touch on our Zenfone. So far I haven't felt the need to move from stock after debloating it.

Most people havent but I mean the Intel cpu would be perfect for Ubuntu touch, it would also be interesting to see how the zenfone 2 preforms with the ubuntu touch on it.

me too LOL ??
Someone should complete "Multiboot project for zenfone 2" then we can dual boot other ROMS along with Android. That would be fun and many people including me would use it. Entirely leaving the Android ecosystem is hard.
I think ubuntu touch is still based on 4.4.2. (<-- I hope I am wrong on this.)
This might be a problem because the lowest our zenfone gets is ~5.0.
So there will be a few bits and pieces that won't work correctly.
Also ubuntu touch seems to be arm focused, making it a bit harder to port.
There are also some issues with the (cm13) kernel. (cgroups/app armor/where is logger.c?)
However this does mean it is impossible, it is just a bit harder than one would expect.
I have tried porting it myself but failed several times.
Next try: once I get libhybris working.

With that apart from ubuntu touch, you could also make a port of sailfishos.
PS: So do a topic posting the progress of the port?

I totally forgot about sailfishos.
...which is weird because I was lurking around the mer-hybris repos for quite some time now.
I am downloading the sources right now.
Let's see how far it gets...
Also a bitter sweet message:
PREREQUISITES
An ARMv7 Android device officially supported by CyanogenMod 10.1.x, 11.0, or 12.1 (at the
time of writing 2015-09-11).

I'm looking for a port of these 2 operating systems for zenfone 2 which I bought it to have as a "linux handheld" but I still have not seen anything more than a simple chroot in android.
Besides that, I'm also waiting for someone to make a port of the latest version of linux (next to other things to make it a distro) to zenfone 2.
Please, if you have the knowledge of how to do it, do a favor to people to do it and publish it, I know it costs but if I would have the knowledge I would do it.

I think you can find most of the knowledge here :https://sailfishos.org/wp-content/u...OS-HardwareAdaptationDevelopmentKit-1.1.2.pdf
I'm going to give it a try and see how far I get.
This might take a while.

There is any possibility that some dev ports Ubuntu touch for mi mix 2 ??

I think that Ubuntu touch will be a nice alternative to Android for all that users that want to try something else on their devices. I really hope that someone read this words and give us soon a nice news about Ubuntu touch
