I know Android is better (I am running the CM7 nightly), but I thought it might be nice if we could get some sort of actual ROM for the D. Inc. that was WP7.
Not a dev, but I don't think that is possible. You can get home replacements that replicate it, but you're pretty much stuck with android on your incredible. There was a project to port webOS over to the desire, but that had pretty much hit a dead end the last time that I checked.
I would love to see how wp7 works on our device too. Just read hd2 has dual boot android and wp7 roms running. Port maybe? If nothing, to satisfy curiosities and to have another rom to show off?
P. S. My sig is indicative of how I look at roms...

I know a poster from another forum who has a HD2 running android. Would be nice if we could run wp7.
I know. I'm kind of a ROM whore too, but I tend to end up with CM7 nightlies simply because it's the fastest unskinned gingerbread build out there for the Inc.

This may be in the wrong section, but why do you gotta be so harsh about it? Take one of your chill pills bro. although very unlikely, you never know if someone with the ability will try to bring something like wp7 to our device.

The reason that they have Android running on Windows devices is because they know that Android kicks ass. They all want to be like us. I'm going to get an iPhone...when they get Android running on it. LOL

Even though what you are asking my require "development", it is in fact, not development in itself and therefore it belongs in "q and a". I mean think about it, you even put [q] in your thread title.
It is much easier to get android running on a non-Android native phone because Android's code is open sourced whereas WP7 or webOS is not. Thus making it much more difficult if not impossible to port to our devices.
you know what i find funny?? we all say that our phone and XX OS is so much better than all others (Ios, Android, WP7...) but then we go and try to make our Android look like WP7 with home replacements, or ROMs like MIUI for the IPhone crowd...
I had Anroid eclair running on my HTC Touch Pro so I to am guilty of it, I just think it is funny.

#1 This is in the wrong section, and don't try to play dumb about it, you have a Q in your thread title, stating its a question.
To the above quote, they already have android running on the iPhone - http://linuxoniphone.blogspot.com/2010/04/ive-been-working-on-this-quietly-in.html
i was so harsh because the OP didnt even try a search to read the other 20 threads about putting WP7 on our device
I do believe putting windows on a non windows phone is a violation on some law.. yadda yadda
android is open source thats why its so widley available
The HD2 was MEANT for WP7 but Microsoft didnt release in time and The HD2 is windows native so thats why they could port it
Seems like W7 is a few steps behind Android anyways, so....wouldn't touch it, unless it was just from curiosity.
Since the HD2 carries pretty much the same specs as our phone in terms of processor and it can run Android as well as WP7 then what I am trying to ask is what's the limitation on our phone? Besides our radio being CDMA instead of GSM.
Wait til verizon has the htc trophy (wp7. Soon.) Party with colored blocks. Return for android again.Buy a zune. Be thankful.

The fact that the HD2 can boot Android, WinMo6.5, and Windows Phone 7 makes me mad and jealous.
I don't know how many of you there are out there that would like to have the ability to run anything but android on our phones. I agree, Android is superior and is amazing and all, but I get bored sometimes and before you tell me to flash a new ROM... in the end they're all Android. Why not have the ability to flash different OPERATING SYSTEMS onto our phone? I mean hey, if the HD2 can do it so can we!
I understand there is a great deal of work involved in all of this but I'm sure there are others out there like myself who would enjoy such a feature. I created this thread in order to bring those people together so maybe we could find a few developers interested in getting this going.

I've been following the dual boot project and it's definitely something I'm going to make use of (Running CM and a Sense rom... what's better than that?), but at the same time I know there's a handful of people who are interested in running winmo or windows phone 7 on their EVO. This is an amazing piece of hardware and I think it'd be great if we could figure out a way to make more things work on it.

The dev support for the HD2 is superior to the EVO because of its worldphone (GSM) capabilities. Although it would be awesome to have the choices, I doubt it will ever happen on a Sprint device.
It kinda sucks because I feel like the phone has so much potential if it were running on more OS's
Been a long time android user. Love the customization of the OS, but its always fun to try something new! I know there have been a lot of people asking this on other device threads. Honestly, the E4GT could run WP7 like a champ. Plus, it would be great to have the option and be free to run what you want. Thats what XDA is for isn't it? Anyone give this a shot yet?

Back to the topic. Is there any way to install Windows Phone 7 onto the Epic Touch? I know for a fact that the E4GT can easily run it with the specs it has. Why not try and pull WP7 off of another Samsung WP7 device. Maybe that could be a starting point? I'm not a developer, but theres gotta be more people out there who want this to happen or are at least interested.

Like someone already said.. this would be considered illegal since WP7 is not opensource like Android.. It would also be extremely difficult (don't want to say impossible), considering the source is not available and the drivers most likely being incompatible.
This is the closest you'll get to it:
https://market.android.com/details?id=info.tikuwarez.launcher3&hl=en
Ah. Makes sense. It is like Microsoft to screw up something with great potential by locking it down. Oh well... I'll just ask this since theres already a few people in here to seem to know their stuff. What rom would you recommend for the E4GT?

Now that you can go back to full stock, give them all a try. Everything is done exactly the same as on the Epic so it should be easy for you. Which is best is impossible to say. As you probably know from the Epic, some ROMs just work better on one phone than they may on another even though they are the same. That's part of the mystery of these Sammy phones

you mean wont be jailed if we install it on our android phones ???
Maybe, it is possible?
Guess it can be done. Not at this moment though. Few years ago when Steve Jobs introduced Intel processors in macs, a new unofficial project was started known as Hackintosh. What it does is it simply asks the user to make a prototype of a certain version of a Mac and then installs Mac OS X using some custom bootloaders. I have done it in my machine.
Well, if we can find a phone exactly same as that of any WP phone, then it MAYBE possible, 'cause that'll (maybe ) discard the need for new drivers. Plus, its the world of piracy   unless, you want to go sell your device or patent it, it should be perfectly alright to pirate WP (On your own risk though, IT'S NOT RECOMMENDED )
*I DO NOT ENCOURAGE PIRACY, ITS JUST AN IDEA, A WAY TO FULFILL YOUR PIPE DREAM*

Is there a solution to dual-boot different ROMs on the galaxy t989?
Something like the app Boot Manager Pro for the market?
Id be pretty interested in something like this, but wouldnt it take up alot of memory and then you would have to update apps on both roms and then wait for the other rom to boot up and etc. Just sounds like too much work to enjoy two rims at the same time. Id prefer to just make backups of the roms i like and switch them out whenever i feel like it

Referring back to the OP, it probably just isn't smart to dual-boot ROMs to begin with. One ROM as-is voids the warranty because it does tons of funky things to your phone. Can you imagine what the possibility of two would do? Not to insinuate the # of ROMs itself, but the possibility of doing that would hang in the balance of the bootloader, which would have to be dug deeper and restructured for the end-user to select which ROM to boot with.
Not to sound like a smartass know-it-all, but after taking data structure classes and cell phone hacking seminars, the thought of doing it alone is baffling. Let alone actually succeeding to stability.

The HD2 was one of the only, if not THE only, phone that actually had two separate releases on multiple operating systems. I mean it was one of the most popular devices, no doubt, but It was released as the Android HD2 with Froyo (I believe) and Windows HD7 with WP7 stock.
I'm not in any way attempting to degrade the developers but factually it was easier to develop on because it was "more open-source" than most/any devices we've seen lately. ESPECIALLLY MORE than our T-989. That's part of the reason we've yet to see a developer version of ICS, as most other phones already have. Our drivers and chipsets aren't as easily accessible because well...Samsung hasn't quite made it so. HTC and HP (your TouchPad) made EVERYTHING available. Not always right away, but in accordance to the bootrom and chipsets, everything was available to be tinkered with.
Not to say it's 'impossible' to dual-boot on 'any' phone, but devs would need to access 'everything.' And well, Samsung doesn't play nicely when it comes to releases of any kind.

HD2 came stock with the ancient Windows mobile 6.5 and the first port was android 2.1 booted off of SD card. Then later on nand patition with ics. They also got blackberry os on it (though requires enterprise subscription) and there were WIP on Meego ports that was later abandoned. And of course wp7.5 and Linux. All of this was made possible by the collective effort of so many developers over several years. I don't know why you are comparing devs with devs for a device that came out several years versus one that just released .. give it two yrs with devs effort and it could do more if not better than the hd2 (with or without Samsungs help). You made it sound incredibly difficult if not impossible with dual boot in your comment based on a class you had and I jz wanted to point out an example that devs at xda can do jz about anything .. with time!
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Have you guys not seen safe boot? It useuses motorola boot loader and boots 2 roms. I just did a Bionic the other day. It appears to copy itself as main boot then basically nandroids a backup, then allows install of another. Then when you switch it reverses running nandroid, archiving, then restoring original.
You don't need to hack bootloader just have it so you have custom boot menu essentially that swaps them out.
Later work to have recovery do some symlinking management transparent to installrs ROMs and bet you could at least do 2 Android roomroms or Linux OS if symlinking type
This would be sweet!

Edit: you can append anything to the url. No placeholder.
super cool considering cm9 is not available for very many devices right now.
Currently, you can compile CM9 for a small number of devices- notably the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wi-Fi and T-Mobile versions), the HP Touchpad and Motorola Xoom. The next devices to show up will likely be a whole array of Samsung phones (Exynos chipset), with devices based on the Qualcomm MSM8660 and 7×30 chipsets to follow.

According to the guys at the att store...that there is supposed to be a ics push sometime within the next 30 days....at least that is what they said when I bricked my phone and replaced it...they thought that maybe I got a push already...I kind of looked at them like they were crazy...then one said to the other that he read it in their "kms" system. When I worked for sprint KMS stood for Knowledge management system...it was essentially the end all be all of all possible knowledge about a phone or company policy.
I still think this is speculation and I won't say with 100 percent confidence that either of them were telling the truth.

Spectrum is very similar (same SOC), but it uses a different radio (to account for CDMA). So unless the AT&T version of CM9 is specifically modded, it won't work for Spectrum.
