Hi Nexus user, i have a zte blade and i would like to change it, I thinks between a galaxy nexus, a htc one s or a xperia s.
The galaxy nexus is a "old" phone and i have few question about it, like the battery and performance: with a custom rom/kernel, the battery life is it good? (I am a heavy user) In hd games like nova 3, shadowgun, are there lags?
Thanks for all the replies

For heavy games like the ones you mentioned, I think you would be better off with something else. The nexus has never been known for hardware capabilities but for its software and dev base. For example you say the nexus is old, but what other phones you know that have jelly bean right now. Sooooo if heavy gaming is a big factor on your phone choice, you would be happier with something else.
Jellin' like a felon
I just got it last week and debated that. Although being a nexus old or not, you have the support. No other phone I know would have JB on it and I'm running it as my daily driver. I don't game much, but you know what, this is the best phone I've ever had.
Thanks for the replies.
When i said the nexus is old, i was talking about hardware (its for that i have used quotation marks), otherwise i know the nexus have the best software development (its one of the things i like with it).
Any baterry life report?

I agree with the above points. The Gnex was a bit disappointing in terms of hardware choice when it was announced. My sgs2 are way more better in gaming that that, and even a heavy live wallpaper works better on it.
If you are the type who dont care bout software updates and didnt get too excited like some of us when a new version are out, then go for SGS3/OneX/etc.... even Note/SGS2 also have better gaming experience. but why are you here in the first place anyway? must be because you hacked your phone for latest updates right? haha. ;p
if you are not the above type, go for Nexus. no point getting other phones. trust me, Gnex will actually live for 2 to 3 more major updates by Google I think. or maybe 3-4 given that the smartphones technolgy reached their climax on multi-core processors. i think battery or other elements should be focused right now instead of bumping core numbers. as a conclusion, Gnex have the support, directly from Google and you wont get bored with it. instead of waiting for custom UI updates from Samsung/HTC/etc~
EDIT : battery is quite ok if you ask me. My One X has been better though, with only the different of 100mAh. As far as my experience, HTC does best in battery standby time, and of course with screen on and battery usage. Samsung never got me a good standby time, always decrease over time.
currently my Gnex can reach 3 hours screen on, with stock JB with stock kernel. so i guess its pretty good.
So far this has been the best phone ive owned.. sure the cam is not up to par with the galaxy series, and no SD card. and a few other small things. But everything else is rock solid. Def saving up to buy a spare from the google play store.. thought bout buying a galaxy 7 tab.. but ive had a few tabs and i still use my phone more often.. I dont game on my phone. hell i gave up on console games outside of the wii once in awhile for the old games.. anyway i say go for it.
Galaxy Nexus is not actually "old" phone..
I used ZTE Blade which is really cr#p and small, I'm glad that i changed bought GNex! on my Gnex I have almost same battery life than on CM7 N257 on ZTE Blade!
Galaxy Nexus is good but about HTC one s I don't know nothing..
My Galaxy Nexus battery drains really quickly but that doesn't bother me, I'm using stock JB ROM and stock kernel!
Personally, its my favorite phone I've had. I came from the htc rezound because of the 1.5ghz processor. Then the RAZR maxx because I thought battery life was the most important. But the nexus is downright fun because of all the development and I've never had any speed or battery life complaints.
I don't think I'll ever get another non-nexus device now.

S3 is a little better, but GN is still good.

The S3 has a bigger screen than the GN in the same basic dimensions. Also has a better camera and more RAM. The clock rate of the S3 is 1.4GHz vs 1.2GHz on the GN, however a rooted GN can run at 1.65GHz and that feature doesn't matter anyway because even at 1.2 the GN is fast enough. Of the improvements in the S3 the only one that's really compelling is the 2G of RAM vs 1G on the GN, the other features don't really matter. Bottom line, from a hardware perspective the GN is still a competitive phone but the S3 is marginally better.
The standard battery sucks on the GN but you can buy a 3800ma battery for $20 which solves the battery life problem. I don't know if the big battery is out for the S3 yet but I'm sure it will be available soon.
Third party ROM support for the GN is very good, the Jelly Bean ROMs were available within hours of Google making Jelly Bean available. I don't know how easy it is to root an S3, you should check on the S3 forums. Assuming that rooted ROM support is available for the S3 then that would be the phone to get now, however if the S3 has inferior rooted ROM support then get the GN. If you don't want to root then the GN is likely to get updates faster than the S3. However Verizon is the real bottleneck for GN OTA updates so that might be a moot point.
I have had my G-Nex for awhile now and games play fine IMO but my last phone was an Optimus V. I also have a TF-101 for most of my gaming and it lags more than my G-Nex. I just ordered the Nexus 7 which will replace my TF-101 for gaming only. I will still use my TF-101 for just about everything else because with the dock it is really more of a notebook. I believe 7"- 8" is just the right size for pocket-able tablet
I made an even trade, my note for the nexus. Best phone ever no regrets. Note was awesome with the screen size and hardware capabilities, but there wasn't much for dev support.

I see that you are all happy with our galaxy nexus and its true that with all this software development there is enough to be happy ^^
For the gaming, i have asked this by curiosity, i play game, but not gameloft/EA games (i have a pc for this)
Can i now ask what do you like, what do you dont like with your phone?
Thanks
Ps: im a flasher addict too

I had HTC one x and thought it was the bees knees until I got the G-Nex...This is what I like about it:
1. G-nex now has jelly bean... And it's fast I mean really fast.. Feels faster than my hox and definitely smoother.. At least for daily tasks I don't get any slowdowns & I don't play games with my phone other than puzzle games..
2. I marginally liked HTC Sense and hated Samsung touchwiz but will never want to use either again after experiencing stock android.
3. Jelly bean now not 6 months or a year from now...that alone is worth considering this phone
Dislike:
1. No FM radio - solved by using tune in radio
2. No SD card and limited to 16 gigs - not a great solution but learning to use drop box more as result
3. Super amoled screen vs lcd on HTC one x- hox wins but happy to sacrifice this for the 3 like points above

Sorry to disappoint you but there really is no radio tuner. I believe this apps only work with certain brand phones but I haven't tested personally. However you call always stream online radio channels. As for me I personally use Spotify for all my music needs.
Don't let that discourage you though, the GN is a solid headset you're not likely to regret

You can use things like Tune In for radio over data. IIRC, fm depends on Bluetooth chip used and that the chip has the antenna connected to the headphone jack. It's all hardware related for most phones, there are drivers involved as well. GNex hasn't got the hardware that I know of.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
actually i think for the radio it has to be because of the AOSP. I used to use Desire and SGS2, where Touchwiz and Sense have radio built in. When i flashed CM or other AOSP based roms, nope there are no radio anymore. Well they got it figured out thanks to MIUI.
I'm sure radio will come sooner or later, but as far as I know, dev dont listen radio much on their phones, as I heard some dev actually doesnt work on it cuz its kinda... well~~ i didnt listen to radio except when in my car driving to somewhere. at least thats what i heard from the a cm dev. they dont care bout radio.
well mate, dont let that change your mind. its just a radio.
Well, if i change phone, i think i will change mobile plan too. I have read a bit about the fm tuner, there is one but not connected --'

I am on sprint and thinking about getting a new phone (with my own money of course- not my parents). I am trying to figure out if the galaxy note 2 would be too big for my hands. Right now I am using the old epic 4g (keyboard) so anything would be an upgrade from that Question pretty much comes down to note 2- or if its too big wait for a nexus device hopefully with sdcard slot.
Sorry I am a backdated person and I believe that there must be a time for achieving everything.

And I don't believe in a Nexus device with a SD card slot. As alternative get a S3?

It gets beaten by the mali 400 (and 604t when it comes out) and by the adreno 320.

i think it will be fine depends on your size but a 16 year old is generally big enough to handle it
plus it has 16:9 ratio, so it is quite easy to handle despite its size! i say go for it

I'm 16 and just purchased my note. Can't wait till it arrives.
Correct me if I'm wrong but at 16 your hands are almost fully grown?
And 16 year old can be mature. Sort of.
Any 16 year old who doesn't go for an iPhone by default is awesome. You will love the Note II for sure, go for it.
Also, a Nexus device with memory card slot? I'm not so sure that's going to happen, I wouldn't hold my breath for that one!

it's never too late to become a techno geek, and it's not a matter of dimensions - when i was a kid i was riding my father's bicycle with my legs within the frame. So instead of measuring the distance between ear and mouth (another important ergonomic parameter for the Note 2 ) you should ask yourself what would you do with it: for gaming it's simply superb (i am 46! ), for android hacking anything is good, if you just make calls there are 100s of better telephones, for messaging why not a phone with keyboard, for home usage why not a tablet. and don't forget about pricing, too, unless it's a present
But don't wait: by experience, any moment is equivalent, and new better models will always arrive. In the worst case, sell it back on ebay and get the new one. No choice is forever....even at your age!

Yeah I would see about getting the phone in your hand before you buy it..or make a mock up of it out of card board
But then again you can always take it back in a certain time frame if you don't like it

Friends I have decided to buy 32gb Wifi model. I have been reading reviews around the net and found that the tablet has touch screen issues due to some earthing problem.
My question is that is this true for the initial batches of the tablet only or for all? My Indian friends hopefully could shed some light on this. How many of you are facing the touch screen problem and to what extent?
I was all very excited to get this tablet guys. I was hoping to get it by next week but this touch screen issue is making me have second thoughts.
Also is this best android gaming tablet? Or is there something more powerful than this around the market?
Please feel free to give your suggestions. Waiting eagerly for your responses. Thanks in advance.

I got my Nexus in April, after quite a few had already been sold.
Out of the box, mine had touch screen issues... multiple responses to a single key touch as well as some unresponsiveness. After doing a Google search, a factory reset fixed most of the issues. I'm left with some occasional unresponsiveness.
For me it's an occasional annoyance. I've found after 30 plus years of playing with computer devices, they all have minor annoyances. Overall, I am quite impressed with the device.

But the Google I/0 is at the end of this month.. Also it will take at least another one month for Google to launch It here in India.. With the fact that initial batches invariably has some problems..
Also isn't this tablet capable of doing almost anything. I know faster and better processors are being released but is there any app or game in android which utilises so much power?
From what I have read the only drawback this tablet has is with the camera and feeble loudspeakers.
Performance wise it's pretty good.. Isn't it?

Hi guys, so I've got the chance to get either an HTC M8 or an LG G3 and I'm leaning towards the LG but I'd like to know how it works and if I should invest my money in one... I would really appreciate the feedback (also sorry if this post wasn't supposed to be here, I'm a newbie [emoji28])

If you care my words, don't ever buy G3. It's overheat so much, it eats battery so much. So please don't buy G3 stay away from it.

I'm getting one today. I already read the posts about temperature issues, but I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be too bad. The user experience seems to differ allot so I'm gonna take that chance. I'm not a high demand user so with some performance tweaks it will be fine. A quick search on the HTC M8 finds overheating issues as well so you would have to go through the forums to find out which has more potential issues.

I couldn't do much research about the experience so I came right away here, thing is that I was leaning for the G3 as well since it does seem like the better phone compared to HTC, I mean even the camera is definitely better and what I really like is that the battery is removable... So even with the heating problem it's still a solid device.
Enviado desde mi D6603 mediante Tapatalk
Do you need more good camera, removable battery and bigger screen in same size of a phone or better sound, build quality with better battery life and more fluid UI? Its simple as that, I was considering to buy G3 or M8, and got G3 month ago, its ok, have some cons like every other phone. Every phones heats when you use it for some time. I just like how G3 looks and feels with that big 5,5 screen. Also some cons of M8 and HTCs market situation had some influence to get G3. Hope I helped

I get you, I have had the same "problem" as you, but I think G3 is more future proof, and it is better on paper when you read specs, but M8 is strong competitor, and more fluid because of smaler and lower resolution screen, also its the reason for better battery life. G3 UI is more interesting with more tweaks without root, and I like back buttons. Try them both in some store if you can, It will maybe help u decide.

I heard that some owners of Z2 bought G3 because Z2 was too hot, so I guess G3 is not the worst one. Its general problem with SD, just look at SD810, thats why Samsung and othes are now making their own processors.
m1l4droid said:
Well Snapdragon 810 is a furnace. It gets so hot it has to throttle to cool down, making utilizing phones lag. AFAIK all 810 using phones start to lag after some time of usage. This is why LG opted for the less powerful albeit much more stable 808 on the G4. Wise choice if you ask me. It may not offer the initial power of 810 before it starts throttling, but at least it won't start throttling that badly to begin with.
Oh and about the G3 battery, today it gave 12 hours of battery with over 6 hours of screen time, WiFi almost on constantly. I think that's normal, but I think it's rather premature to judge, considering I had the phone for 1 day.

I agree about G4, its G3 with better camera and SD808.
My best is about 5h SOT with about 1 day of usage, how you get 6h of SOT its impossible for me, whats your brightness and usage, done something to it or all stock?
Well I got the G3 [emoji1] went to the store to test it and the screen is simply amazing... Besides it's not as heavy as other phones and it's better in terms of internal storage compared to HTC.

It does look great you know I searched for it online and it looks quite functional and the 2.3 Ghz processor plus the 4GB ram are really attractive, but thing is I live in South America so here even LG phones are just being introduced per se, it's unusual to even see a Moto and HTC or even a Nexus.

Well, G3 got the awards for the best display of 2014 and the award "best smartphone 2014" at the Mobile World Congress of this year, so you did a good choice anyway

Unplugged mine at 8.00am this morning and it's still at 100% battery ( 4G BT always on )
Last night I was listening music and searching stuff online for about an hour or so and lost like 3 percent its crazy, other phones drain for just being on stand by hahaha... I've got a z3 that my office gave me as a corporate phone and LG is definitely far better in terms of performance.

Man, its impossible to lose 3% with hour of SoT, 3% can last up to 10min max with screen on. Only first % can last up to 30min, and than at average 3min per 1%...

Well the brightness level was almost 0% so maybe that's why also location was off just as WiFi (data only), and headphones were on a relatively low volume... Don't know man, worked for me that way.

I bought mine from Amazon a week ago and i am thinking of sending it back... It's a fantastic phone and the screen is amazing but this UI lag is killing me. I've read through heaps of posts to try and resolve and it's still there.
I don't want to give up yet, i have until middle of next month to return it i'm thinking of getting either Samsung Note 4 or Asus Zenfone 2 if i do return it.
I just read this article claiming, according to an Anonymous source, that Samsung may ditch the Note series, BUT may release a "plus" version of the S8 as a "Phablet variant" with a 5.5 inch 4k screen, dual camera and a Stylus.
IMO, that would be even better. It's like having a Note 8 sooner than expected. Who cares about the name. Galaxy S8 plus with a stylus and 4k screen. Yeah cool, whatever...
What you say dudes?

while I would love to see the yearly release cycle make a come back, I don't see it as likely as them selling a new phone every 6 months helps smooth out their profit margins.
I see this as more likely just wishful thinking.
I say, open up the waiting room, and when can I pre-order it.

I doubt we will see a new phone soon. They need to determine cause and refine QC.

They could literally put out this phone a year from now with no danger of blowing up and call It the note 8 and id be ecstatic. This phone is perfect, so of course it's got troubles.
It would be dumb for samsung to ditch the Note line, people aren't associating the Note with explosions as much as they're associating Samsung with explosions, dropping the Note isn't gonna help.
With that said I dont care about the name, even though "Note" works perfect. But just "Plus" ... eh and 5.5"? No thanks.
The Note 7 is perfect in and out, make this phone again!
I can see them making the edge and note in 1. It makes perfect sense. I'm all for it if it happens.

ermmm bgr site, reeks of appleish , news from Russia ?? now samsung based in russia ?
What I like about the note series is the larger screen. The "S8 Plus" should be min5.7+

This is getting me excited about the note series again! I'm going to keep my expectations low. When do you think they'll reveal it?
They could call it the Note Edge 2. There is already a Note 8 which is a Samsung Tablet.

"plus"
I seriously hope they call it something different... it's too.. iphone-like :/
Other than that, I guess we'll see. We always see various rumors and in the end so little turns out to be true. Many people are looking for a quick 5 minutes of fame, extra traffic = extra ad income... If it happens, great but it wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't.
And really, no "plus" please.. give it a diff name lol

few days before they'd went all "february launch".
But now there are fresh news about a later launch like this site:
https://article.wn.com/view/2016/10/13/Forget_an_early_Galaxy_S8_launch_Samsung_is_busy_making_more/
Makes sense that if they gonna go S8 and S8 Phablet with sylus, it will be way better for them to push the launch to around May.
- They need to find out what happened with the Batteries of the Note 7
- Fix it and find a solution to incorporate more power without issues.
- And of course it's wiser for Samsung to not rush into a launch they may not be able to handle.
So if you'd ask me, and if what's in the OP legit, then I'd say expect a May/June Launch.
