I tried a few cables. All are the same.
When I insert my charging cable, it doesn't ever click. The cable is loose and can drop out of the port easily, so it starts charging.
What can I do?
Thanks
Check the USB port on your phone for lint buildup. My 5X had a similar problem: it would charge via USB-C, but the connector seemed a bit loose, and when plugging it into a computer, I never got the prompt on the phone to choose Charging, File Transfer, etc. Turns out that lint collects in the phone's port. Over time, plugging a connector into the phone compacts the lint, until eventually you have a layer of lint in the bottom of the port that prevents the connector from making full contact. I keep my phone in my pants pocket, so I had lint buildup. My wife keeps her 5X in her purse, so she didn't.
Grab something thin and non-conductive (the toothpick from a swiss army knife works) and gently dig around in the USB port on the phone and see if anything comes out.
The first time this happened to me it was getting to where my phone wouldn't charge reliably. I always use a small sewing needle to do this (yes I know its conductive). I'm just careful. The first time I was amazed at how much lint came out or the port. I also was able to use a small amount of cotton from a q-tip wrapped around the needle and some alcohol to clean the contacts. The port worked perfect after that. I now clean it out every so often just to prevent it from building it up.

Thank you guys, I pulled a lot of garbage from there. I used a needle and carefully picked it. Now everything seems to work fine.
Thanks

This person posted this about kindle fire not working
At first my Fire wouldn't charge unless it was placed in a particular way, then it stopped altogether. I pronounced it dead, and left it stowed away for a few months, but then decided to try and fix it. I think this guide may be useful for anyone who wants to fix a kindle with dead charging. Note that you may damage your kindle in the process so if you are still under warranty, use it.
1. Take off the back cover. You may need to use a guitar pick or something similar.
2. Take off the two battery leads. One has a locking mechanism which needs to be lifted before the ribbon cable can be taken out.
3. Take out all screws connected motherboard to rest of device. There are connections underneath the board so be careful when lifting it.
4. When I lifted it, I found the USB connector had broken off the entire board (if it was even attached in the first place) and this was obviously causing the problems, as the USB connector could now only connect to the motherboard if pressure was applied so that it was being held on somehow by it. To fix this, I could have tried to solder the tiny USB connections onto the board, but instead I used a different way which is working perfectly for many weeks now.
5. Get a rubber band and tie a not in it numerous times until the knot is about 3-4mm thick. Cut off remaining rubber band and superglue the knot onto the bottom side of the USB connector (the side that faces the display when assembled). Then insert the USB connector into it's little holder under the board, with the rubber band firm beneath it and replace the motherboard. Redo all the screws, reconnect any connectors you've disconnected (you may have had to disconnect some to remove/move the motherboard - always undo battery cables before you work on the innards of any device).
6. If you've done this correctly, the round rubber band knot should press the USB connector continuously on to the board. Test using your stock charger before you put it back together because the back cover is pretty hard to get off.
7. Replace the back cover and enjoy!
Notes: My rubber band knot was actually a little too large, which meant that to connect the USB plug I had to press the kindle together to insert the cable, but charging is reliable and working so far, so I'm happy about that.

And I think he's long gone it's an old post and I need help what does he mean by connect the rubber band to the usb where do you put the rubber band where do you super glue it the motherboard kindle or the usb and what does he mean by tie it how do you tie a rubber band
I have my phone plugged into the wall, lighter, or pc it will start charging. However, after several minutes it will start connecting and disconnecting itself, even when sitting on a table without any outside interference or touching it. This is with several different cable wires, chargers and even a dock. Anyone know if it's likely to be microUSB or a battery issue? It's unrooted and running stock KitKat.
Mine did the exact same thing, and would wake me up in the middle of the night with the beeping. Eventually, it stopped charging altogether, the night before I was supposed to go on a 400 mile road trip!
My solution was to clean the USB port on the phone. I used a product called DeOxIt and a small metal pick from the garage (I suppose a small paperclip would also work). Power down the phone, and remove the battery. Apply a drop of DeOxIt to the paperclip, and GENTLY scrub back and forth over the USB connector inside the phone (you'll need to get both sides - top & bottom). After that, unplug your charging cord, and apply a drop into the USB connector, and then work it in and out of the phone a dozen times. Let everything dry thoroughly, reassemble, and reboot!
I haven't had the issue since, and it's been almost a full year.
Hello
I've had my HTC one m8 for over 2 years now and recently the micro USB port has been acting up. It only works , i.e can charge and transmit data, when the cable plugged in is at a certain angle, usually it has to be bent downwards (with the screen facing up), but not too far down. Sometimes it needs to be bent to the right or left as well. I've tried moving the connector around in the port with a flat head screwdriver, but it doesn't change anything. Since my warranty ended in November, is there anything in can do?
Try a different cable.
If that doesn't help try cleaning your port from any debris and those small pieces of cloth if you haven't done it already. If this still happens then you probably need to replace it.

Tried 3 different cables, cleaned out some dust with a screwdriver too. Guess I'll have to look for a replacement
Well, the last thing you can do is to turn the phone off and carefully clean the port with isopropyl alcohol or something similar used to clean electronics..
Hi,
Ever since I've had the phone I've been using it with my computer to transfer files, flash roms etc. but now I can't use MTP. The phone charges just fine but no notification about the USB mode pops up and the computer doesn't even recognize the device. Tried my Macbook too but to no avail. What can I do?
Same problem
Check the USB port on your phone for lint buildup. I had the same problem, and it was definitely lint buildup; once cleaned, it worked fine.
Help please...

I've seen reports of this before, and it always seems to have been a hardware issue. You could try a factory reset, but it's unlikely to help.
first step try as many different leads as you can as it could be faulty leads, it's the most common problem but as you say it's happening with multiple things it probably isn't this.
had similar problems on other phones alcohol and a thin pick has tended to fix it when I've needed to do it.
one way I've found that works to clean it out assuming the USB lead is going in fully, (if not use a thin pick as it could be a bit fluff in the bottom of the socket stopping it engaging fully) is to turn off the phone get a disconnected USB lead, (very important it isn't plugged into any source of power during) dip the end that plugs into the phone in alcohol (proper cleaning alcohol not just drink as it evaporates quick) put the plug in and out a couple of times, let it dry out then repeat a couple of times, if it's just dirty contacts this will clean it, just make sure when connecting the USB lead is just damp and not dripping to avoid any flooding of the socket.
outside ofm that I would assume it's a hardware fault.

Thanks for your help...
Fixed it by using electronic cleaner spray its made my day ,moisture alert appears and after four hours gone after that its works!!, i dont know if its bad but it fixed this problem
was possibly just a short in the socket due to dampness for a while, but the port should be waterproof like the rest of the phone really so nothing should have really got in the phone.
but if it's working it likely was just dirty contacts.

Thank you for providing detailed instructions on port contact maintenance. I started having issues right after updating to A11 so assumed ultra fast charging on my note 10+ broke due to that update. However, just to be sure i ordered new oem block and cable and the ultra fast charging began to rapidly cycle from on to off, so i did more research and came across your reply. I dipped both ends of the old usbc cable into a half oz of reagent grade alcohol 99%+ shook them off so there wasnt a full drop of alcohol in them and slid the cable in and out a few times. Then let it dry for a min and plugged it back in to the new block using new cable. It seems to be stable now, however as i write this reply, it cycled twice between on and off, so I'll keep trying to clean the port and report back if successful.
Confirming that cleaning the contacts on the cable and phone using reagent grade alcohol and a thin pick worked to resolve the issue. Examination of the port and cable with the naked eye did not reveal fouling. Keep that in mind when deciding on trying the cleaning.
