can any of the app developers for Sony Smartwatch (2) tell me if it's possible to add watch faces to the watch?
the digital one on the SW2 is really too simple, with just the time showing, it really needs at least the date to be added
Hmm...I think you missed there a several choices built in to the watch. Go to the settings app on the watch scroll down and you will see the option to change the watch faces. Some include the date
But they aren't digital.
exactly, there are 4 "analog" watch faces and 1 digital and i want a digital one with date
what i really want to know is, can only Sony add watch faces?
Other developers can, although I don't know if they can do the proper "always on" effect. There is an app in the store now which claims to add more faces, although it isn't yet "optimised" for the SW2. For me though it just crashes on startup.
It seems its built into the firmware ... watch faces on the market are just WApps, they burn far too much battery to be useful IMO.
If we can hack the firmware, i'm fairly sure we can make our own watch faces, but i've no idea where you can even download the firmware to start with, let alone modding it.
Im interested how the display works, does anyone have proper info on this ? It looks to me like the display has two parts to it. one being the monochrome traditional style LCD and the other being the colour LCD ... or am i barking up the wrong tree ?
it's a transflective LCD, without backlight in low light its hardly readable, but in direct sunlight it reflects light in a certain way so it gets readable again
inside you can ofcourse use the backlight
Hello
So does this mean there is no way to have custom watchfaces that are always on. Like on the pebble?

At this time, yes.
As an owner of one myself I'm not too bothered by that fact. I've actually found the black analog face to look quite nice on the device - and I'm picky about my watch faces. My only complaint about the watch faces though is the fact that the digital watch face does not include a date/day indicator - it just displays the time.
Thanks for your answer.
I find this a little disappointing.
Always found that the ability to change watchfaces makes a smartwatch so interesting (next to notificationsbof course)

i've tweeted something nice to @SonyXperia
any decent digital watch can show a time AND date, and a smartwatch can't?
Hi,
I was looking for the same thing: A digital watchface with at least the date. I was personally a bit disappointed with he analog watchface as is not nearly as sharp as on the picture that are used as publicity.
I found that the first smartwatch had such as watchface), but I'm not sure if this SW can be installed on the Smartwatch 2.
Me too....

I notice on the box it shows a digital clockface with day and date....this isn't available on the watch itself!! Good grief, In this respect its a step back from the old one!
This is when graphics win over functionality
Still you must admit that this is a beautiful watch compared to the first version plastic thingy...

There is a similar discussion going on on the Sony Forum, entiltled "SmartWatch 2 - shake to highlight?, battery life?" (as a fairly new user I can not post an external link here yet).
Thommo writes:
I'm almost pretty sure that the watch in that video is a 1st production demo which had that feature on it - After looking round other sites which have tested the watch after official release this feature was removed apparently due to battery life as the watch would always be on thus battery life would not be that long, I'd like to also point out that on the demo versions there were more clock faces and a walkman widget - The walkman widget as far as I'm led to believe had a pixelation problem and was removed although the packaging still has an image of the widget on it
I'm curious to see if these functionalities will be brought back in as they are clearly printed on the box of the watch.
removed.
Looks interesting. The sales page claims lots of apps are available and high customization.
I'm a little worried because I can't find any link to an SDK.
Good luck with it.
Nice find. Please update us with your review. I'm very curious about the notifications. It says, notification alarm? ??
So, wil it show the notification? Or will it only show an icon or play a sound?

imho, the success of any (non-standalone) smartwatch depends on the companion app that comes with it. AND knowing you'll get firmware updates (and know where to get them).
all those things that use BTNotifier or whatever version of it can't hold a candle to the like of Pebble, Sony Smartwatch 2 and Android Wear.
yes, these (china) watches are cheap, but you get what you pay for (really regret buying the U8 watch).
what kind of companion app comes with this watch?

That's why I never speculate until I get it in my hands. Once I receive it I will let you guys know how it works, battery life, and companion app. No doubt, without a proper app - it would be just a toy.
found this watch by accident. yes please give your most detail review for this one page didnt say compatible with my phone galaxy note 2 but since both has bluetooth 4.0 i think they are compatible.
i also want to know the o/s they are using. not android wear, i think?
Isn't really active here on xda, but wanted to tell you guys that I just bought this. So lets hope for the best that it's a good device
They say that there is apps being programmed to it already so there must be some way to program our own. So if anyone gets information about how to develop to this one please tell me/the rest of us

Looks great.
Will it be full compatible with an One Plus One? Thinking if it will work with an OPPO Find 7, I believe OnePlus One will made too...
Hmm is this has speakers and microphones so I can receive and make calls? (By connected to my mobile of course) . Need to decide between this or IKWEAR IK8 haha
Just got it today (DHL shipping was very fast).
First impression, it's very lightweight and thin. Magnetic charging cable is very much like in Pebble. The watch face is always on and you can enable backlight and motion (turns backlight as you move the wrist). Paired up OK with my Note 2. There is "weloop" app in Play store, but not everything is enabled in there yet. It seems that iPhone app is more complete while they are still working on Google app.
As of right now, from the app you can select Message Filtering and choose apps whose notification you want to be displayed on your watch. So you can get all your email notifications, txt message notification, phone calls, etc. There is also a way to access all recent notification history. You can use it as a remote shutter to take pictures and videos, and it controls music playback on your phone. The watchface replacement, silent alarm, and fitness app are not enabled yet, though it has a built-in pedometer to track number of steps, burned calories, and a total walking distance (though not sure how accurate it is).
It doesn't have android wear or any sort of android OS, it has it's own proprietary OS. There is no speaker or mic, obviously for battery conservation. One neat thing, I was able to check its firmware and it got updated over the air, no need to do manual fw update.
For now, this is just initial impression. Hopefully they will update android app version to enable all the features, especially changing the watchface of this clock. Once app is finalized and updated, i will write a detailed review with pictures.

Where is the Android support app? I can't find anything in the Play Store. Also, please post pics!
The app is here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yf.smart.weloop - and it's the same one if you download directly from weloop.cn (second link at the top in the upper right corner, brings up QR scan for the direct link). Unfortunately, a lot of the info is still in Chinese. As a matter of fact, I had to try a few options to figure out how to switch Chinese to English in the setup of the watch.
What I can say is that hardware and design are SOLID! Been using it for a day, still at 100% battery. It does all the basic notifications, and extra (with fitness stuff, music control, camera control). The app is a work in progress and from what I understand it's more complete for iPhones while Android is next. I also see they have a big community (all in Chinese, unfortunately) with people posting with their suggestion and reporting problems (per Google translator). So, it definitely got a lot of support and can only get better from here.
I will post a TON of pictures later today, but a full review will have to wait until I see a more polished app update. Just keep in mind, this is not Android Wear or modified Android OS watch. This is a very good clone similar to Pebble design with proprietary fw. I think the key here is a very long battery life, durability and waterproof rating, small and thin and lightweight, and all the basic notifications and controls (with vibration). There is no high res graphics in there, but the watch face is always ON and it can last weeks. I was just using it outside and even without backlight - it has a "sharp" contract (no pun intended since it uses Sharp screen and great visibility in a direct sunlight.
I changed my original post to a FULL detailed Review with a TON of pictures!!!

Thanks a lot for your review and the pics! :good: Its cool you got it although DX.com says the Shipping beginns at Sep. the 15th. Seems like it was a nice suprise as the DHL-guy came .
I have two questions you may could answer: 1. will it work with Android 4.3 devices? I know they say it does only support 4.4 but maybe they just say so, because they cant guarantee it will work with ANY 4.3 device at the time.
2. Do you think it is possible to change the strap? It doesnt look like an standard-srap, you say, but is it ever changeable? I am not a great fan of that TPU-straps.
THX
EDIT: @TomaszD84 - try the QR-Code from weloop.cn, it appears when you click on the 2nd of the 3 buttons in the upper right corner
Saw the device while browsing DX couple days ago, looked really promising and the YouTube ad looked really professional. I'm intrigued by the battery life, the only thing that has kept me from getting a smart watch is the pathetic battery lives of the watches. I don't need to charge my wristwatch(yeah so 90's...) every night. Can you tell more about the battery life now that you've used the device for some time?
If it had speaker and mic, I'd get one right away...
Yes indeed, it was a surprise to receive it so fast. As you can understand by visiting a link in my sig, I write hundreds of gadget and accessories reviews and get my review samples from manufacturers direct or through retailers such as dx.com since they can communicate with me in English. I guess it's a brand new product, and personally I'm excited about it because I have been following SmartWatches for awhile now.
I will try to see what's going on with that wristband but it doesn't look like a standard 22mm band, that's for sure.
4.3 vs 4.4, I remember notification was introduced in 4.3 where it worked before with my MetaWatch and older 4.3 on my Note 2 before the 4.4.2 stock update. But I can't say for sure if it will work for you. Might have to root to 4.4
Regarding battery, this is my 2nd day with a watch with a semi light weekend use. Will give you an update a week later. Right now it's still at 100%.
Haha suck it G watch R!

Nice update
The update work for anyone? I got it but have been unable to set any of the new faces to the watch. They don't show up. Maybe something screwy with my oneplus....
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
I have it and it is working. You may need to give it a few minutes for the new faces to be transferred to the watch. They appear just like the original stock faces.
It is nice to have the award winning Moto but it is a shame they didn't add any of the additional features such as weather or battery percentage. I think the clone of the face that boostr29 did for facer is still nicer. The Motorola face likely uses much less battery power though. Wear 2.0 should let people create much more involved faces that can display more information such as unread email etc.
If you havn't got the update yet or want to see what they are like, I took a photo of all the new watch faces:
http://imgur.com/a/XJXT5
Pascuals a favourite, I'm sure the My Design will be better in time... It won't be good for anything beyond casual usage though - you need to crop the image for it yourself, and the ticker hands you can't customize outside of the preset options they have.
Yeah, the My Design is quite limited for now, and you can't set large preview cards on it. But at least there's now the option/toggle to add the date to all of the other watchfaces too, which is handy.
Generally this is a bit of an odd update, as it just adds Moto Body features that replicate existing Fit ones, except for Calories. Now we have again the typical Android mess of duplicated features, despite Google's efforts to control Wear.
I dont understand how anyone can use a white face. That flat tire looks terrible. I always run a black face, so its not too noticable.

Try to restart the watch. It worked after I did a restart.
Same issue here. I've restarted the watch, reset the watch, uninstalled and reinstalled both Android Wear and the Connect app. None of the new apps or watch faces will show up on the watch.
I just wish the date option was a bigger font. My old eyes have a hard time seeing it.

The app is a ton of fun, hopefully they continue to expand it. I have several pictures that work great with the DIY watch face.
Yeah I'm loving this, the custom pictures are nice and hi resolution!
Thx for sharing. Had moto connect app disabled.
How are u guys getting the update? I don't see it on playstore?
---------- Post added at 10:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:55 AM ----------
Nvm. Odd. I had to search for the app and then it said update. Would not show up automatically.
My phone wouldn't find Connect update (kept telling me Connect was up to date)
On my PC, I visited -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motorola.targetnotif while it said installed, when I clicked the Install button I was able to pick my Moto X, and click OK.. After that, the X notified me of the app downloading and installing. I now have the update.
Seems like the best faces are the one's that create the illusion of a round face by having some sort of inner circle that is not disrupted by the flat tire look. Basically you tune it out since all the major eye candy is above it, only the tiny hash marks are broken which you barely notice anyway. Having a full white face or roman numerals makes it very obvious there is a screen break at the bottom.

I wound up having to reset the Moto X altogether. Somehow, I think swapping between a work-week phone (Note 4) and a weekend phone (Moto X) got some apps stuck on the watch that weren't on either phone anymore. When I reset the Moto X and then reset the 360, it stared to work correctly.
Too bad beelink dont work anymore else can easily switch devices with the watch.

Hi all, just thought I'd share a link to Sony Developer World's latest blog post about the Top 5 SmartWatch 2 developer tips. Given this very recent post even when their new Sony SmartWatch 3 has been released shows that they're still committed to supporting the Sony SmartWatch 2. Hopefully we see some future updates and feature enhancements brought to the SmartWatch 2.
I would like to see support for Android 5.0, because for my LG G3 is available yet.

You know, I swear I read that exact same blog post sometime earlier this year.
I have been surprised over the last couple of weeks that some of the Sony apps have had updates released. Weather wasn't working on my Z2 until the recent update to the weather app. At least the SW2 is not completely forgotten. I have not seen any of the newer watches I would rather try.

I have the opportunity to buy a SW2 for a good price. I know that Sony have launched a new device, the SW3, but for me that one it's more expensive.
The SW2 is still a good choice nowadays?

Couple of weeks back it was on sale in the US for 99 USD or something like that. So was the LG Watch. Not sure how that converts.
For now good price for SW2 (deprecated) is between 60€ and 90€.
It is the best of the best smartwatch in the world but with Wear I think there are not many people who want a SW2

I don't think I'd buy a SW2 at this point. It is dead tech even if Sony is still offering token support. If you're looking for an inexpensive smartwatch right now I'd be looking at a Pebble. They just added access to the Android Wear API and it's the best smartwatch on the market right now when you consider overall feature set.
I have also a pebble since 2 years.
Display very small and lower resolution. Button are very annoying, I prefer the touchscreen. When you have not your 20year old eyes most of display font really hard to see without backlight, so I prefer the SW2 display. In same use SW2 last 3 days and pebble last 3 days.
In reality the new beta pebble app is compatible with android 4.3+ notifications but not with wear notifications I have also LG G-Watch on same phone than my pebble and wear are not received by pebble, only general android notifications with actionable button from android 4.3 not wear notification

I don't have anything close to 20 year old eyes either but I have no issue with the Pebble (or Pebble Steel) in any light condition while wearing my glasses. That can't be said for the SW2 which I also had. Pebble has access to the Android Wear API because Google made it open. Yes the notifications look different because of the screen and form factor but they are true Wear notifications at the API level. Play around with the SDK a bit and you'll see it. They are quite different than the Android 4.3 level notifications that were usable on the Pebble before the beta update. Android 4.3 notifications are not actionable. Android Wear are.
The only thing missing is voice control due to lack of a mic on the Pebble. For everything else they're functionally exactly the same and they both operate at the API level.

Just 2 sample I use on my phone (same for LG G watch and pebble)
1Weather wear notification : send to android phone notification system and on wear device -> nothing to pebble
TweetWear send new tweet on my wear device and nothing to pebble.
So pebble not wear notification compatible. and it is only 2 of my app for wear notification.
pebble receive only android notification but not wear notification try it
CalenGoo send notification to android system and with actionable button we can snooze alert. On wear you snooze for 10min and after 10min notification alert i sending anew to wear device and you can snooze or dismiss. On pebble you can snooze first time but after notification is not sending to pebble, so you can't snooze or dismiss without take your phone

Are you on the beta for Pebble? If not you're still seeing the old 4.3 style notifications which function exactly as you're describing. I'd link you to numerous tech articles, forums, and even official releases from Pebble announcing the Android Wear compatibility in the newest beta firmware but I'm sure that wouldn't convince you so I'm not going to waste my time.
Yes of course I use the last beta pebble android app.
Have you a wear watch on same pebble phone to see if you receive same wear notification on the 2 watch.
You can just post a picture of Tweetwear or even 1Weather Wear notification in your pebble, in this way everybody can see that your pebble receive wear notification and not all other pebble
And if you have not the latest beta pebble app you have not the actionable notification in action menu on your pebble, even with android 4.3 or 4.4 but you have this on Sony SW2 since a long time (and without Sony Wear notification compatibility on SW2)

And if you have not the latest beta pebble app you have not the actionable notification in action menu on your pebble, even with android 4.3 or 4.4 but you have this on Sony SW2 since a long time (and without Sony Wear notification compatibility on SW2)

There have been actionable notifications on Pebble for some time as well thanks to programs like Glance and Awear. I was using Awear in fact until they made actionable Wear notifications part of the new PebbleOS version.
I just installed 1Weather and I don't see any way to send a test notification. If you want to walk me through it I'll be glad to post pics.
I don't use Twitter so that's out.

Everyone seems to know about this but you.
Just got a Facebook notification so here are pics of it showing the notification, the actionable menu that comes up when you push the middle button, and a blurry pic of it being dismissed because it was so fast I couldn't take a pic. It also dismissed the notification on my phone just like it was supposed to do.
Phone is an HTC One M8 running Android 4.4.2 on AT&T with Pebble App beta 2.3.0 beta 1 installed. Watch is a Pebble Steel running beta 2.9 beta 5.

Just got a text as well so here are pics of me answering it on the watch and it being sent.
Hi, i have just got this watch, not really used it yet, i noticed you can download the huawei app on your phone which seems to get really rubbish reviews, so i was wondering do most of you use that appor does the google wear app do the same thing for like all android watches, is that a generic app by google and is it better, or is that for something totally different?
any other tips or advice would be welcome, i have a samsung s6 running android 5.1.1.
regards
James
Congratz on your Huawei watch. Not aware of the many people using that Huawei app. I know I'm not, you should just use the Android Wear app which is a universal for all smart watches.
