Hello, I once had a problem with the wifi hotspot operation on a Lenovo K3 Note - while the data connection worked fine and the hotspot set-up appeared to work, the connected device did not have internet access. This was solved when I flashed a new ROM.
Now I have an identical problem on an elderly phone (Ice-phone mini) running Android 4.3 that I want to use as a wifi hotspot. The symptoms are exactly the same as I had with the first phone. This phone is rooted, but I have not found any other ROMs to try, it is running the original rom.
I wonder whether this wifi hotspot problem is somehow generic, as I have come across it on more than one occasion. Is there any generic, or other solution?
I've tried Wifi Tether, but for some reason it fails. The log shows wifi interface configured but all the other operations fail.
Thanks.

Hi guys,
The first thing I did when I got my Nexus is root the phone and install the wireless tether for root users. It worked fine the first few times I ran it, but now whenever I hit start tether it starts up and mentions I should check the error log. At this point the tether has failed to broadcast a network even though the app thinks it's working, and everything is ok in the error log except these 3 steps:
Setting ad-hoc mode
Setting essid
Setting channel
These 3 flag as failed, I have tried other wifi tethering apps and get basically the same result where they won't start up or they start but fail to broadcast.
My wifi works fine, I can connect to networks via wifi without any issues, but I'm really stumped as to why the tethering has stopped working.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm running the stock ROM still as root while I wait for a good port of the forthcoming CM9, so if someone wants to suggest a stable, fully working ROM to flash in the meantime that's fine too
An update, I flashed a couple of different roms and this issue has now persisted accross all of them. Nobody has any experience with the same problem?
do you have the most recent version of wifi tether?

As far as I'm aware yes, it is also failing to work with other wifi tethers (have tried barnacle tether which does exactly the same thing)
I'm starting to think it might be hardware somehow, but other than this the wifi works fine for connecting to networks.
hi guys.
my dhd is working all well but there is a bug in it,i can connect to my wifi network with lptp and other phones but and my dhd also connects but it doesn't go to any website or any other net requiring thing on the phone.
any idea?
i have stock rom rooted on my device.
Hi all,
I'm facing a little problem after having rooted my Galaxy W (I8150) stock ROM; I longer seem to be able to use the built in wifi tethering.
Whilst turning on wifi tether, I look for the hotspot on the PC's wireless connection window (next to the clock in the taskbar). Sometimes the Access Point (which I've left named AndroidAP) shows up, sometimes it doesn't. When it does, I try to connect, but only to have the connection later dropped without being established in the first place.
I noticed this within a few days, after rooting, when I tried to use the wifi tethering function. The problem persists after unrooting too. Currently, to use wifi tethering, I've got to use a tethering app from Market and the app demands root privileges to work. Which is fine, but I don't intend to keep my phone rooted.
Whilst rooted, it has happened in the past, by what I can only describe as mere fluke incidents, where it establishes a connection, and later dropped it. But more optimistically, one very few occasions, it had connected and remained connected for the duration of its use. However, now it no longer even establishes the connections, so now I'm left with nothing but yet another app to clog up my phone as a workaround.
My rooting and unrooting methods are found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317394
under Rooting via Recovery mode(SD card) and Unrooting via Recovery mode(SD card).
I'm really not sure how I to fix this, I've even tried a hard reset. Though I've found that a hard reset does not in fact return the phone fully to original state(?); whilst still rooted, I tried to hard reset the phone. Afterwards, I found root privileges remained.
some additional information, few of which I actually know what it means myself:
I'm on T-mobile (UK)
Android version 2.3.6
Kernel version: [email protected] #3
PDA: I8150XXLA2
PHONE: I8150XXKL3
CSC: I8150OXXKL4
Does anyone know what needs to be done?
Bump
No one? :|

I had the same issue once. I figured out that it wasn't the fault of my phone but the problem was with my wifi hotspot. I reset my wifi modem and made a new hotspot. That solved my problem. Hope this also works for you.
