any way around locked bootloader? - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

with the Verizon version of the moto z play, the bootloader can not be unlocked. has anyone tried to work around it and still be able to root with the locked bootloader? i know with past Verizon phones I've had there were always bootstraps available to set up and still be able to have root but with a locked bootloader.

Unlocking the Rogers bootloader?

I've been trying to unlock my Rogers Arc's bootloader for a while now and it doesn't seem to be working. I've flashed WWE firmware that wasn't Rogers branded and I still can't get into fastboot mode. Is there any other way of unlocking the Rogers Arc's bootloader?
By definition, Rogers branded phones can't have unlocked bootloaders (as I posted in the other thread, blagus is trying to work around this)
Just want to add that SIM-unlocking your phone won't make a difference either. I thought doing so along with un-branding it would allow me to unlock the bootloader, but I was wrong.

Wish it were true, but it's also bad logic.
SIM/network unlocking is independent of any software/firmware/bootloader.
The bootloader is loaded before any firmware/ROM (i.e. generic/debranded) meaning that altering anything on top of it wouldn't have an affect.
Right now, there's almost no reason to unlock the bootloader anyways. There are no custom ROMs available yet so the only reason would be to root 2.3.3 which can't be rooted with Gingerbreak.
Maybe this can help you? I haven't tried yet, but will do soon.

[Q] Bootloader question for CDMA phone

So I have a rooted CDMA xperia play running 2.3.3, my question is is it possible to unlock the bootloader of my phone? Cuase from my reading CDMA xperia plays are unable to have the bootloader unlocked.
Yes, it can be unlocked, but the only way is though a paid service, found here: http://unlock-bootloader.com/unlock/
It's $24.00, safe, easy, and worth it.

[Q] Bootloader Unlockable consequences

I'm not the only semi-noob out here. I'm sure not many of us fully understand the consequences of having an XZL that won't let you unlock the bootloader. So...
If you cannot unlock your bootloader, what are the ramifications? Will the number of available custom roms be fewer? Can we have no custom roms at all?
Also, how can you ensure that you get an unlockable phone. I'm in canada, if I order the XZL through Bell, am I 100% certain to get a phone that wont let you unlock the bootloader? Do I have to buy the full thing off contract if i want an unlockable bootloader?

even if you buy the phone from bell off contract the bootloader will still be locked
i live in toronto and ordered the zl online and i already have unlocked my bootloader
as for roms there are some that can still work but yes it limits the customization that you can acheive with an unlocked bootloader

Rooting without unlocking bootloader

Hi,
I'm really interested in buying the new Z2 play, however I've noticed that unlocking bootloader means loosing the warranty.
So, is there a way to root the phone without unlocking the bootloader?
No. Probably never will be.

I remember that there were some tools for Samsung mobiles like Towelroot which rooted the phone without triggering knox/unlocking bootloader.
It could be also useful to relock the bootloader and find a way to hidden the boot notification of unlocked device.

Towelroot is a very old exploit, and newer protection measures along with FRP make it extremely difficult if not possible at this point to unlock/relock the bootloader from Android itself.
Besides, I'm fairly sure Moto service centers will still take your phone regardless of the bootloader status given that it is a defect that is unrelated to the user (ie: ghost touches, screen burn, etc.).

Does anyone know an Unofficial Way of Unlocking the Bootloader and/or rooting the Moto One 5G (AT&T) XT2075-2?

Bootloader is not eligible for unlock (not at all surprised) for the XT2075-2. Has anyone found a way to unlock the bootloader or generate a bootloader unlock key (even if it is a paid service)? Worst case, it would be nice if there was a root exploit that could be used.
Well this is frustrating. I bought the unlocked version xt-2075-3, but received the ATT version (xt2075-2) It appears the unlocked version doesnt have 5G for USA anyway... So I am ok with the ATT version... But youre saying I cant root this thing? Wtf?
