Hi!
Just a quick question:
Does unlocking the bootloader on Xiaomi Mi6 voids my warranty, even if I would relock the booloader and flash it to stock ROM & Factory Reset?
I do not own the Xiaomi Mi6 right now, but this would be very useful to know, as I'm considering buying this device.
I did found this post on the MIUI forums, which seems to be a an official reply, but I think the answere is somewhat vague, can somebody please clarify it for me?
Does somebody has any experience about if Xiaomi actually cares as long as the bootloader is relocked, and stock rom is flashed correctly, before sending a device for warranty repair?
hi.. I Will try to answer..
- unlocking your bootloader Will void your warranty
- if you are in Global Stable and trying to flash Global developer throught updater app, it wont work.
you have to flash Global developer Rom with fastboot Rom with miflash tool throught edl mode.
other methode is.. flash MIUI Global developer 6.8.18 first throught updater app then flash the latest Global developer.. (I dont think this Will work with all user)
- its not possible to root without unlocking your bootloader
if you are worry about your warranty..
Xiaomi are user friendly..
just flash Global Stable Rom throught miflash tool with flash all. it Will give you clean flash installation. It Will re-locked your bootloader, lose root acces and lose custom recovery/TWRP.
about service center..
I Will avoid going to service center..
as long it is about firmware problem, bootloop (softbrick) or dead state (hardbrick). I Will solve it personally..
(they can take long time to repair your device, 1 week up to 3 month)
for Kenzo (Snapdragon or Qualcomm) users
you can recover your softbrick phone with miflash tool.
for hardbrick phone ..
you can use
1. deep flash cable or
2. test point methode
adding more info..
- flashing custom Rom, custom recovery, custom kernel Will void your warranty.
- you can flash other official MIUI Rom type (from Global Stable to Global developer or event to China version) without unlocking your bootloader. just use miflash tool and enter edl mode
- flashing official MIUI Rom throught miflash tool with edl mode (locked bootloader) will not void your warranty
if you are afraid about flashing custom Rom..
Dont be afraid..
- read alot before flashing, the thread ussualy provide solution for the problem
- if you get get stuck, softbrick etc, etc.. while flashing custom Rom or kernel
just flash official MIUI Rom with miflash tool..
recover your phone first, then.. back to square one, follow the step given by the thread on how to flash custom Rom.
PS : I'm not trying to explain about the warranty. I'm encouraging you to explore your phone. if your phone is for daily use.. you dont have to unlock your bootloader.
I'm Kenzo users, MIUI China developer 6.9.29
unlocked bootloader, root, flash xposed, radon kernel, Magisk v6, zcx TWRP and flash audio modification (viper Atmos +audio +beat)
hope it Will enlighten you..

Hello,
I bought a 64gb version throw gearbest and they installed a vendors version 7.3.14.0.0 not oficial rom. With defeats the purpose of the bootloader being locked.
I want to install the original miui 8 china or miui 8 from xiaomi.eu.
If I unlock my bootloader by submitting the request to xiaomi what I lose? What are the disavantages?
Does the fingerprint reader works on a bootloader unlocked phone with official miui 8 china?
Does it work with xiaomi.eu rom?
What are the features that cease to work with an unlocked bootloader with these two roms?
If I install xiaomi.eu rom without unlock the bootloader using Doom Slayer method I must not update by OTA or I will brick it, right?
And oficial miui 8 can I update by OTA?
Sorry for these questions but is my first xiaomi with locked bootloader and don't want to screw up by not knowing the consequences of each method?
Thanks in advance

The fingerprint will work. But Find phone will not work and it will not be secure. But your phone will be less secure like if gets stolen anybody can flash firmware and you will be loser. With find my phone nobody could even flash firmware . I have got permission within 2 days for unlocking but i have not done but i have flashed chinese firmware by using miflash. the link is here http://en.miui.com/thread-326039-1-1.html. it is very safe that way.

Security is not about flashing, is about protecting your data. Encryption makes phone more secure, not locked bootloader. We have ways to flash whatever we want with locked bootloader... how about that? Do you still fil secure?
Thank you both,
@seking for what I could understand this is the xiaomi.eu rom with even more stuff, right?
Do you have the helium version?
For that rom you just need the miflash to flash the rom via fastboot, right?
This is different from the Doom Slayer method because with it we fastboot the TWRP recovery and then use it to flash the xiaomi rom.
@nijel8, that is my question also the locked bootloader doesn't add security, gearbest flashed a custom rom even with it locked, so the security reason isn't a valid one.
Partition encrypting is only available when the bootloader is locked? If so that is one feature that is gone with unlocking.
If one unlock the bootloader can later lock it again?
With the bootloader locked we can't use miflash tool to flash fastboot rom, right? Only using EDL, and even then from what I could understand the system and data partition need to be formatted and that removes the encryption...
I just want to get rid of a rom that I don't know what is it and install a oficial rom or a rom from good sources like xiaomi.eu
After replace my rom can I update it by OTA or after I must update only by fastboot ot TWRP?
Thanks again
Bootloader status has nothing to do with encryption. Encryption always is a user option in any ROM... Not sure about MIUI though b/c they enforce encryption on both system and userdata partitions in ramdisk fstab so no user choice as far as I know. And yes... You can always lock bootloader back but will loose your data in process.
Not going to answer the second set of questions (see my signature ) not b/c I don't know but b/c never done it myself so yeah...
mi max is comparatively new phone. there are notnmany roms. development still new. therefore be careful of what you flash. for hardbrick solving we have to open the back cover which is risky. i have taken the safe mthod of not unlocking it. i flashed the rom on the locked rom with miflash via EDL. one can always flash the official rom through twrp and you will be safe.
Thanks a lot you two.
Trying to get the most information before doing something wrong.
Don't worry... Mi Max poves to be die hard phone...
hello everyone I am using mi5s really want to learn and find a solution my question is 3 days ago I flashed the mi capricorn_images_7.8.24_20170824.0000.00_7.0_cn_22c026885a beta rom to my phone but my problem is I am from Turkey and I need a global rom the problem is I flashed the rom to my phone without opening bootloader , and I tried to flash global beta rom after that but I couldnt I have tried a lot of way to but I couldnt and really dont want to open bootloader because its just 2 month that I bought mis5s and if I open it my guarantee will gone is there any solution for me or I have to open bootloader pls help me
I dont think unlocking bootloader voids warranty if u did it officially. Or you can just relock it easily.
geri kilitliyebilirsin
You can use the unlock tool to unlock the bootloader lock, unlock the en.miui.com application, and then you can use the miflash brush
Miui 9 Global developer rom has been release, just download and install via updater. No need unlock bootloader
Hello guys.
I recently bought this phone and wanted to use netflix, but didn't allow me because it outdated and said it was not compatible with my phone. So I did a bit of research and found a post in "mi community" that said it was because phone had bootloader unlocked. The phone was new and I didn't change anything of it, but I found the bootloader was unlocked.
Installed fastboot and adb drivers, locked bootloader and got myself into a... Brick?
-I can still load into fastboot.
-If I turn on the phone, It tries to load android but loads Mi-Recovery 3.0 instead. Recovery also says "This MIUI version can't be installed on this device"
I'm so lost from this point, I need to know if there is a way to flash any rom, and which one do I need.
Thanks in advice
stuck on recovery
Most likely a chinese phone that came with global rom. If it came with global rom try flashing chinese rom and then unlocking bootloader and reflash global. Do not lock bootloader after flashing global.

Not sure where I can get the official chinese rom or how to bypass the xiaomi protection.
Thanks for helping! Hope I can somehow do it
Locked bootloader
Try searching for tools below which might help.
Saki / XiaomiADBFastbootTools
XiaomiADBFastbootTools-6.5.1-Win
I had hard bricked mine and had to take back off and use EDL to revive.

If you can flash global ROM. I think you just need to unlock bootloader and then flash China ROM once you have unlocked bootloader.
China ROM link below

It lets me flash de global one, but when I try to do the same with chinese rom, it says the version is lower, so I can't "downgrade".
It's weird because according to version number, the global one was a few versions lower
Solved the issue
The same issue , i was also encountered , After Flashing with "Xiaomi_Mi_Max_3_V10.2.1.0.PEDMIXM_20190226.0000.00_Global_9.0" Mi Max 3 with the MiFlash20191206 tool , by default the tool used "Clear data and Lock".
The tool saying "Flashing" and my phone got rebooted and went to MI Recovery 3.0 and also i got the message as
"This MIUI version can't be installed on this device".
I am not clueless how to proceed. So downloaded the Chinese version and again i tried to flash with above tool. Now tool said that "Can't Erase Locked" phone.
So Now i connected to Miflash_unlock with fastboot and connected to mi account and again i unlocked the phone.
Now my phone automatically booted to the Global version.
So i hope the issue is selecting the option as "Clear data and lock" . We need to select only "Clear data" in the flash tool.

Hi there,
I encountered the same issue. I tried to flash some CN Rom without enough research, without knowing that you can't just flash an Android 10 rom from 9 directly by recovery (even TWRP). So I ended up Fastboot or TWRP but never able to boot into system. Fortunately I didn't flash my Max3 by fastboot rushly, so my phone was still unlocked.
This is how I solved it:
1. Download an official CN ROM (the below I used is MIUI 11 with Android 9.9.x);
I can't post link here but search "miui通过线刷升级" - you shall see a miui.com link ending with shuaji-393.html. That's the page I download the Mi Max3 ROM from.
2. Use MiFlash to flash the official ROM with the flash option "clean all", NOT "clean All and lock";
3. The phone shall reboot into system, give it 5-10 minutes;
4. Flash the miui.eu ROM you like (DO make sure it is Android 9 tho) by recovery (tutorial given under every official xiaomi.eu ROM download).
Again it's easy to search
It took me less than an hour to do it (I don't have much experience with new XiaoMi phone). So don't worry about bricking your phone forever.
Hope it helps to destress
Hi guys. I need some help too because I'm not totally sure what I have to do here so if anyone can give me some tips I would appreciate it.
I just ordered the 128gb 6gb ram version of Mi Max 3 and it might come with the global rom and already unlocked. Should I use the Mi flash tool to install the file MIUI 11 V11.0.3.0.PEDCNXM android 9 fastboot file? then after that installs I should lock the bootloader and then unlock it again myself with my mi own account? I just want to make sure that this is the correct way to do it.
Also after it I unlock it should I flash the newest xiaomi.eu rom with android 10 or do i have to do something else first? Thank you
Hello everyone.
My POCO F3 still hasn't passed the 7 days for the bootloader to be unlocked.
So, I have been reading about ARB and how it seriously can brick your phone if ARB indices aren't matching.
I really wanna flash Xiaomi EU once my bootloader is unlocked. And I am gonna go with fastboot version for safety.
- Do I really need to worry about this ARB thing when flashing custom roms ?
Any extra handful info is much appreciated
UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER before any firmware or ROM installation. That's the key advice. If you don't the chance of a hard brick is high. Next thing I'd say is that you can ARB to trigger when flashing custom firmware so my personal recommendation is to use something like xiaomi.eu and then you don't have to play with mi flash and risk triggering anti rollback. Also custom ROMs just modify the dynamic partitions so you're fine to change from custom ROM to another (obviously you've got to factory reset)

Thanks. So custom roms developers have already taken measures about that, from what I understand.
Hi guys since I might sell and upgrade my device, I just wanna know how do I re-lock my Poco F3 bootloader. It is safe to re-lock the bootloader in the Mi flash tool(clean and lock)? I've seen many people that they bricked their device with clean and lock option on mi flash tool, should I re-lock my device through fastboot mode + CMD? Please enlighten me, thank youuu.

dude just flash your region's rom eg ur region is Europe then download the latest fastboot rom and flash in mi flash tool by selecting clean all and lock
People Bricked their devices because they might have flash a diffrent region's rom Example im having mi 11x (indian) and i flash redmi k40s china rom and lock my bootloader then my phone will get bricked ( it happened to me once accidently pressed clean all and lock while flashing china rom to my phone and later go to know my bootloader was locked and i bricked my phone )

That's what I thought too, they might flash wrong region firmware on their devices and ended up bricking their devices, but how did you fix your device? Did you just flash through mi flash tool the correct firmware region in to your device? or did you get EDL something?
