there is still a ROM thats sense based running android 6? i need one to use sunshine. but my luck finding one have been terrible? maybe someone can help me?(tested with slim6 and cm13.1 but those are incompatible, sunshine ask for a more stockish rom)
Edit 1: if i could get a link to the 3.38.502.41 ruu.exe that would be even better too(cant find any way other than that to go back to my original rom)
Wait, you're trying to update the AT&T branded version of the M9? Of course you can't use the dev edition OTA, then.
And if you aren't using an AT&T sim card in your phone then it's no miracle that you don't receive the AT&T Nougat OTA, either. That restriction has already been discussed several times here in the Q&A section.
In regard to the custom roms: did you check the websites of the sense rom dev teams? All older versions of their roms are still available, there. You only need to compare the changelogs for finding the correct rom version for your phone.
And in regard to the RUU: it's available in the ReadMe thread. Not Sure why you didn't use it if you already visited/read that thread.

Hi all,
I have the latest stock version of Australia Optus (i.e. RUU 1.29.980.11) and I am looking to find how to remove that crappy ICS 3 button menu.
I have tried to search the forum, but it does not have the one that is suitable to my phone.
If anyone can do it or point me to the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
P.S - I can't post/reply to threads in development section since I only have less than 10 posts. I tried to ask endursa in the thread, but can't.
Search harder. There is a mod for odexed (i.e. stock) but you need to be rooted and hence bootloader unlocked.
So if you're going to do all that you might as well flash a custom ROM e.g. one with this option baked, or say ARHD then add the mod.
there is stickies on how to root and custom ROM in the dev section. please read carefully lol.
If you're a total noob at this you MIGHT want to wait until the official 1.29.980.11 RUU exe is made available by someone. If you brick the RUU is your get out of jail card (basically lets you flash back to stock factory). Unfortunately due to HTC's stupid S-ON and locking in general, we cannot flash even an older RUU say 1.28, as when we updated to 1.29 stock it updated a bunch of stuff like HBOOT etc. that right now custom roms cannot touch.
I'm also looking for a solution to this.
I've seen the odexed solution but that only seems to work on 1.29.401.11 stock

Hi I need help to flash the new firmware on my att m8 to run the new roms I am soff and boot loader unlocked but don't have super cid
2.23 is the latest. Its included on the following ROM. You have to download the whole ROM to get it from this thread, but it has great instructions for those not familiar with the process. Not sure if anyone has posted the 2.23 firmware by itself.

Are you actually using AT&T as your carrier? If so, you probably don't want to flash the 3.x firmware. It includes the radio for the international version, which on past firmwares, were known to not play well with AT&T.
I'd wait until an AT&T specific firmware package is available; which won't happen until AT&T releases 4.4.4 or at least the Dev Edition rolls out.
When you say "new ROMs" I think you mean "ROM" as I believe Maximus is the only custom Sense ROM so far to rebase to 4.4.4 (although I'm sure others won't be far behind).
If I super cid will I be able to do this ?
What if you remove the radio.img file from the firmware zip? Or replace it with the one from latest ATT firmware?

Hey guyss, so i just bought this awesome phone on craigslist and it is already rooted and idk if the guy did anything else beside that ,so is there a way i can check everything like firmware, cid, and all the stuff ?
And also , do i need to convert to gpe if i want to install lollipop roms like SkyDragon gpe , blisspop , or cm12 or do i just need to flash it through recovery?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
1: update the softwar/firmware to the latest (hboot 3.19).
2: no need to convert to gpe. Skydragon works on sense firmware so it's not mandatory.
3: i know in the backup thread is being talked about s-off and such but it's not necessarily needed, only if you wish but i recommend to read up on what s-off is and can do if you don't know that yet.
3.16 is indeed the oldest firmware. But you can check that also in the at&t section. This section is for the international devices actually.
Since its the AT&T version (from your other posts), there is currently no official update to hboot 3.19 and associated firmware. So you will need to s-off by sunshine in order to update firmware (required to run current ROMs).
You can check the hboot screen to see s-on or s-off. You can check for other details (including CID) with fastboot getvar all (if you post the getvar info, delete your serial number and IMEI as they are personal info).

If using the phone on AT&T's network, I would recommend the firmware included with the following ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-4-4-3-2-22-1540-3-debloated-sense-6-t2837365
Flashing this firmware, you do not need to alter CID.
This is the 4.4.4 (software 3.28) firmware package from the US Developer's Edition, which is intended for use on AT&T. Some folks (myself included) have had issues using the WWE firmware on AT&T's network. In particular, broken Google services while on LTE.

After I flash that, I'll be good to go with any Rom right? Or just sense Rom and I have to convert to gpe for gpe Roms

You don't need to fully convert to run GPE ROMs. Just flash them.
Full conversion to GPE only gains you the GPE partitioning (smaller system partition, and larger user accessible storage) as well as enables official GPE OTAs. But you need to convert back to Sense partitioning to run any Sense ROMs. I don't recommend full conversion to GPE for most folks, unless you really want the GPE partition scheme and/or OTAs.
I won't say "any ROM", but the previously linked firmware will enable you to run most or all the current ROMs. Older ROMs might not play well with the newer firmware.

You're welcome, and happy to help.
I would also recommend you check out the AT&T M8 specific forum section, mentioned by Mr Hofs. It contains a lot of info specific to the AT&T variant. This "international" section has lots of good info too, as well as more traffic overall. Neither is really "better", and I actually find it best to read both forum sections:

You need to update the firmware again to 4.16.
Simple rule, you need to have firmware that corresponds to the custom ROM you want to flash.
Hi guys.
Im absolutely new to the htc community. I just bought an m9 and immediately rooted it using the manual in the general section.
From what I've understood, im now s-on? I searched the internet a bit about s-on an s-off and it was pretty clear. Now if i want to install a rom i can simply flash it using TWPR. But, I'm reading here and there that we can update our firmware if we are on s-off.
So my question is: am i correct in the first place? And second, is it really that necessary to update the FW and therefore make the device s-off? What are the actual benefits of s-off and what are the benefitsof a new firmware?(ist this included in a new rom base?)
Thanks in advance!
Anyone?
Yes and it depends. Here a quick flashback. When Android 6 (Marshmallow) was released for the M9 alot of custom roms started to be updated of course. Alot of users who were S-ON couldn't use these new custom roms because they wouldn't work properly. Since their phones were still on Android 5 firmware they all ran into issues like no wifi, cellular etc. They had to wait until the carrier's started releasing Android M which included the new firmwares. Once updated they were able to still be S-ON and use the new custom roms.
The big factor that plays into people getting S-OFF I think is that they can flash different firmwares. I.E an unlocked m9 Android N firmware will be amongst the first to be released allowing us to quickly start using and making custom Android N roms. Different firmware packages offer battery life and/or better coverage and speeds.

In the end it comes down to. Will you wait for your carrier to release the new Android update. Or gain S-OFF and flash the first rom/firmware the moment it gets released to the Developer/unlocked model.

Hi all,
I have an HTC 10 currently running nougat (viper rom), I want to update to the oreo firmware so I can flash Lee Droids Rom. The phone is rooted and dev unlocked (s-on). What paths do I have to get this update done? I was thinking I would have to flash the HTC Oreo RUU directly from HTC, but I could have sworn it could be down another way. It's been sometime and need a refresher, can't seem to find anything in the HTC sections on this.

If people use poor thread titles its never going to be found. I searched for oreo nouget custom rom firmware and multiple combinations...I know how to search. I am not looking to read through thousands of threads for a simple answer. See how my thread is titled? Once I get the answer someone using common sense search will be able to find it.
Anyways, does it take more energy to harp on its being discussed versus just giving a simple 1 sentence answer?

Flash your nougat RUU and update to oreo or flash your oreo firmware. Then the rom.
Better?

Thanks Mr Hofs, I know you have helped a bunch of people on here - multiple days of searching has you coming up a lot w/ answers. I literally have a running sheet of question/answers from the last few days I have gathered from the forums. But the answers still aren't completely lining up for me.
Issue right now is that I am on T-mobile and even if I downloaded the t-mobile 2.51.531.1 RUU (nougat 7.1.1) and go back to stock install, T-mob doesn't have an oreo OTA as far as I have read. I am also s-on so I can't just flash any ruu. Thoughts? Is my only avenue to go s-on and convert to US unlocked via sunshine?
Thanks in advance.

Correct, when T mobile does not offer the oreo update the only option is indeed to go s-off and convert.

Security checking failed GT_CONNECT_FAIL
So I am prepping to s-off so I can upgrade to oreo. Using adb I rebooted into bootloader and then manually clicked into download mode. I noticed at the bottom I am seeing "Security checking failed GT_CONNECT_FAIL", I couldn't find any answer as to why that is popping up on xda or google (its happened to a few others). Any thoughts?
