firmware att m8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I need help to flash the new firmware on my att m8 to run the new roms I am soff and boot loader unlocked but don't have super cid

2.23 is the latest. Its included on the following ROM. You have to download the whole ROM to get it from this thread, but it has great instructions for those not familiar with the process. Not sure if anyone has posted the 2.23 firmware by itself.

Are you actually using AT&T as your carrier? If so, you probably don't want to flash the 3.x firmware. It includes the radio for the international version, which on past firmwares, were known to not play well with AT&T.
I'd wait until an AT&T specific firmware package is available; which won't happen until AT&T releases 4.4.4 or at least the Dev Edition rolls out.
When you say "new ROMs" I think you mean "ROM" as I believe Maximus is the only custom Sense ROM so far to rebase to 4.4.4 (although I'm sure others won't be far behind).

If I super cid will I be able to do this ?

What if you remove the radio.img file from the firmware zip? Or replace it with the one from latest ATT firmware?

Prerequisites for installing custom roms - Hardware / Software

I have Hyperdrive installed and the only important prerequisite was it had to be the sm-p600 model which I have but other roms mention firmware base eg xxucnh3, xxcng, xxucn. For my phone (htc one m8) the prerequisites are much stricter and complex eg you have to have the right android version , the right radio, the right model and its variants, the right custom recovery version and type, the right base firmware and then only if you have s-off to change it. One piece of advice I got was that I could only load roms up to the current android version 4.4.3 (Australia) for my phone but not above. They also said that the only way to upgrade to 5.0 was returning to stock using OTA's unless you have s-off and convert your phone. Its this comparison between what's necessary to run my phone's roms and tablet's roms that's got my head spinning.
So my questions ..........
1. Will any rom written for my sm-p600 work regardless of android version, firmware base and country?
2. When lollipop comes out can I simply wait for a rom to be updated and load that or do I need to return to stock and wait for OTAs
1. For your first question any rom for the p600 or p601(3g version) that has an Android version at or higher then 4.3 you can flash safely. Anything below 4.3 you will brick your device, KNOX restriction.
2. No, you cannot take ota updates from Samsung, but you can flash updates from Sammobile.com for any updates for your devices. You are more likely to get android lollipop sooner if you flash a custom rom.

That clears it up, thanks.
I read most of the pages of that thread before I installed my first custom rom. Rooting, roming etc is so much easier on Samsung. I've read 100s of pages on the HTC forums and boy it's way more complicated.

Bought a rooted phone?

Hey guyss, so i just bought this awesome phone on craigslist and it is already rooted and idk if the guy did anything else beside that ,so is there a way i can check everything like firmware, cid, and all the stuff ?
And also , do i need to convert to gpe if i want to install lollipop roms like SkyDragon gpe , blisspop , or cm12 or do i just need to flash it through recovery?

1: update the softwar/firmware to the latest (hboot 3.19).
2: no need to convert to gpe. Skydragon works on sense firmware so it's not mandatory.
3: i know in the backup thread is being talked about s-off and such but it's not necessarily needed, only if you wish but i recommend to read up on what s-off is and can do if you don't know that yet.
3.16 is indeed the oldest firmware. But you can check that also in the at&t section. This section is for the international devices actually.
Since its the AT&T version (from your other posts), there is currently no official update to hboot 3.19 and associated firmware. So you will need to s-off by sunshine in order to update firmware (required to run current ROMs).
You can check the hboot screen to see s-on or s-off. You can check for other details (including CID) with fastboot getvar all (if you post the getvar info, delete your serial number and IMEI as they are personal info).

If using the phone on AT&T's network, I would recommend the firmware included with the following ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-4-4-3-2-22-1540-3-debloated-sense-6-t2837365
Flashing this firmware, you do not need to alter CID.
This is the 4.4.4 (software 3.28) firmware package from the US Developer's Edition, which is intended for use on AT&T. Some folks (myself included) have had issues using the WWE firmware on AT&T's network. In particular, broken Google services while on LTE.

After I flash that, I'll be good to go with any Rom right? Or just sense Rom and I have to convert to gpe for gpe Roms

You don't need to fully convert to run GPE ROMs. Just flash them.
Full conversion to GPE only gains you the GPE partitioning (smaller system partition, and larger user accessible storage) as well as enables official GPE OTAs. But you need to convert back to Sense partitioning to run any Sense ROMs. I don't recommend full conversion to GPE for most folks, unless you really want the GPE partition scheme and/or OTAs.
I won't say "any ROM", but the previously linked firmware will enable you to run most or all the current ROMs. Older ROMs might not play well with the newer firmware.

You're welcome, and happy to help.
I would also recommend you check out the AT&T M8 specific forum section, mentioned by Mr Hofs. It contains a lot of info specific to the AT&T variant. This "international" section has lots of good info too, as well as more traffic overall. Neither is really "better", and I actually find it best to read both forum sections:

You need to update the firmware again to 4.16.
Simple rule, you need to have firmware that corresponds to the custom ROM you want to flash.

[Q] Can custom rom's firmware base be different then what my phone came with?

Hi everyone, enjoying my awesome M9 like everyone else =D
and its time to move on to the custom rom goodness.
I can't seem to find an answer to the question. (maybe its too obvious? coming from s3)
Mine is a M9 (hong kong), with 1.32.708.15 (s-On) and all the custom roms are 1.32.401.17 based.
Is it safe to Flash it?
This is the only info i managed to find at the ARHD 5.0 OP with regards to the question.
"- If your current firmware version doesn't match ROM firmware version, wiping data inside AROMA is highly recommended!"
Would be nice if I can get some confirmation from you guys.
Yes it is fine right now since it is the same base. Get soff while you can so flashing firmware in the future is easy. Remember always backup first. Use twrp 2864

I did this on the M8 before, I had problems with the wifi and it took ages to boot until I found out that my firmware is old and different from the rom.
Anyway, I did what you are trying to do yesterday, (firmware 15/ rom 17) for a couple of minutes, didnt find any problems.
Before you flash any ROM, BACKUP your system and move it to your PC and use the latest TWRP
Thats good to hear! I'm gonna give it a try once i'm back in town! Thx!
Please Help me!
I have a HTC (M9) Verizon, and base is 1.33.605.15, it is advisable to downgrade the base to 1.32.401.17?? (for install customs roms with this base)

Stock means Google play version?
Stock means either the HTC Sense (official) Based ROM
or the Google Play Edition (GPE)
It depends on what version (CID). For the vast majority, yes you will get OTA as long as you are on a stock HTC ROM (not custom, or any system files altered in the stock ROM) and have corresponding stock recovery.
But for some US variants (AT&T, Verizon, maybe others) the OTAs are sent via the carrier's network, and you will not get them if you aren't connected to that specific carrier. This can be circumvented on the AT&T version with s-off if you change the CID and MID to "convert" the phone to another version (not possible with Verizon CDMA version).

sense based 6.0.1 roms

there is still a ROM thats sense based running android 6? i need one to use sunshine. but my luck finding one have been terrible? maybe someone can help me?(tested with slim6 and cm13.1 but those are incompatible, sunshine ask for a more stockish rom)
Edit 1: if i could get a link to the 3.38.502.41 ruu.exe that would be even better too(cant find any way other than that to go back to my original rom)
Wait, you're trying to update the AT&T branded version of the M9? Of course you can't use the dev edition OTA, then.
And if you aren't using an AT&T sim card in your phone then it's no miracle that you don't receive the AT&T Nougat OTA, either. That restriction has already been discussed several times here in the Q&A section.
In regard to the custom roms: did you check the websites of the sense rom dev teams? All older versions of their roms are still available, there. You only need to compare the changelogs for finding the correct rom version for your phone.
And in regard to the RUU: it's available in the ReadMe thread. Not Sure why you didn't use it if you already visited/read that thread.
