Best Custom Rom for Stability and Battery

Hello,
What Custom Rom you guys think its best for Battery Life and Stability?
I've been using CM11 for the last few months and now im Trying Omnirom. They are both stable and use the same battery.
I cannot try every rom, so im asking here for your opinion.

I very much doubt battery life would be any different because of ROM version.
It has more to do with individual usage patterns
&
BT On/active/streaming
Brightness level/Auto
Data On/updates/push services
Calls talk time
Text/chat apps
Wi-Fi/Hotspot on/active
I'd say if your getting nearly 2h's of screen on time then the ROM is just fine.
There may be others getting more, but it all depends on how you use your device.
I don't mind charging my phone 2-3 times throughout the day(to help keep it topped up), I don't use Wi-Fi since I have unlimited data, unless it's for a large occasional download (testing new ROM/apps) have auto app updates and push services on) and leave BT on to automatically connect to my car stereo and start streaming music and also always leave auto brightness on.

Personally, I have tried lot's of different Custom Roms, and to be honest, none of them are as good as Stock 4.3 in terms of battery life and stability. Yes, other ROMs offer additional features and Android Versions that would otherwise be unavailable, but are mostly less stable, more laggy and have worse battery life. If you want customisation, you can root and use Xposed Framework.
That said!.. the best custom ROM that I have used is both FML Kitkat and FML Lollipop by MWisBest.

Recently I went back to 4.2.2 (Verizon) because no roms I could find had decent battery life. I started using greenify to help with memory, as I find that soon as it gets to about 100mb free, the lag is terrible.
So in your opinion FML Kitkat vs stock on battery is worse? I briefly tried FML Lolipop but felt it was too early in dev and buggy

Yeah, I've always found that stock Jelly Bean has the best battery life. But your experiences may vary with usage.

I have used CM11, PA, Shiny ROM and FML so far. I cannot compare them to stock, since I haven't used stock due to lack of customization features.
IMO, Shiny ROM + Dirty V Kernel with Nephilim's settings had the best battery life. On standby, my phone ran for more than 2 days without a single charge. Performance was decent, although I wouldn't say that it was ideal.
I'm currently running on the latest FML Lollipop + Smitty L Kernel with Nephilim's settings. The battery life is decent, with about a day and a half standby time. Performance is fantastic. If you value both battery life AND performance, you might as well give this a try, as it is definitely worth the effort.

[XS] Battery life in stock vs. custom roms (nAOSPROM, Chroma)

so I have been running nAOSPROM (most recently b24) for about two months now. And I reluctantly switched back to the latest stock firmware. Reason being that, while battery life with screen off was amazing with the LP roms, it was horrible when I was actually using the phone for surfing or light app usage (no games). I swear I could watch the battery go down in steps of 2 and 3 percent as soon as the screen was on. With stock firmware I feel that the phone actually allows being used.
And now I'm in a bit of a pickle. Because having seen what my beloved XS can do on Lollipop, I really want to keep that experience. On the other hand it's no good to me if I have to carry around a backup battery charger just out of fear the battery will break down in the middle of the day if I use the device too much. Also I have seen that the XS can do everything I expect from my phone, I really want to avoid buying a new phone just for battery life.
I am now asking for your experience that is certainly further reaching than mine: Is this something that can or will get better? I.e., is it natural due to the increased complexity of Lollipop, or is it something that can be remedied by optimized builds, optimized CPU governors or similar? Or even has already gotten better with Chroma (which claims battery optimization but I haven't gotten around to trying yet)?

Alright, to answer to myself, maybe it will help others in the same situation:
Going back to the stock ROM was not an option anymore. It installed fine alright, but obviously even light use of contemporary apps (Google Maps, Facebook) brings it to a screeching halt. I've had multiple occasions when I would exit an app, and the stock launcher would groaningly launch all over again, bringing up widgets one by one. On a completely fresh factory install. So, no, besides JB being horribly outdated if you had LP in hands, it is just not viable anymore.
Now I'm running Chroma and I must say, as impressed as I was with nAOSPROM, I like Chroma more. If you go by perception alone, nAOSPROM runs a little "smoother", it feels a little zippier and more fluid. However, I can't shake the feeling that it comes at a steep price, and that Chroma is much easier on the battery, especially in active app use which is backed up by my battery stats. Asides from probably a few days with screen off, I get between 4 and 6 hours of active app use out of the system, which is perfectly fine for my needs -- I didn't keep logfiles of nAOSPROM, but it seemed considerably shorter. Also, having already only flashed the Pico gapps, I feel right at home with the minimalistic installation of Chroma. So for the time being, I'll stick with that one.
The only thing I actually miss from the stock ROM is its snappy, lightweight stock camera that starts quite a lot faster than anything on an AOSP ROM. But, eh, if that's the price to pay, I'll happily accept it.
My thanks go out to the developers of both ROMs. Thank you for keeping my device alive.

if you have no problem in using custom rom then use Aex 5.4+ pico gapps + nameless kernel.. this combo will give you best battery back up.. from next time onward if you wanna ask a query .. post in the query section.. not in this section

No necessarily. MIUI and ZUI has a better battery performance because this has a own saving mode. Yo always can tray to rom + Custom Kernel + tweeks , is no t magic, you must try the best combination for you specific use.

Try an app called AccuBattery. Check how is the actual condition of the battery.
Any Lithium-ion battery lose their capacity with charging cycle. So more we charge battery, less backup it gives.
Battery makes say, 20-80% is a sweet spot to save much of the battery wear n tear !! Since most of the charge cycle damage happen between 80-100%.
I am no expert, just shared few points which I leant by reading here n there. So wait for other expert to comment :fingers-crossed:

Hi I installed the stock rom on my device and now battery performance is back to being great but the performance has downgraded on a really high basis.The Ui is not even smooth now what do u think I should do

Hi, i've recently purchased an used z2 plus, and since it's the weekend and packages can't be shipped the vendor (good guy) told me he will flash a custom rom if i ask him to do so.
I have zero experience with custom roms and i'll probably keep the one he'll flash for a while, i'd like one based on android oreo and if possible that supports ota for a bit of future proofing.
My main concerns are heat and battery life, is LineageOS 15.1 good? Or would you recommend a different one?

If you're a normal user don't flash any rom. Atleast for a week after that decide to flash the rom. (If you're not statisfied with stock rom)
You can easily flash the custom rom with the help of xda members and YouTube.

thanks prince, but after browsing the forum for a while no one seems to likes the stock rom, i'm also fairly nervous at the thought of flashing it myself haha, and since the vendor is so kind to do it for me i'd like to give it a try!
a nougat based one is also fine if it means more battery or less heat

actually stock rom has ugly ui. Otherwise you can use it and yes custom rom has more performance and better backup but you won't be satisfied with single rom, once you start flashing custom rom you will flash infinite time different different rom( it's my personal experience:laugh and you won't be satisfied completely.:silly:

If you absolutely want a stable custom rom, I'd recommend something like Ressurection Remix 6

yes, try latest aex. Overall performance is better among all.

If I were you, I'd probably stay on stock. Considering that you said you feel nervous about flashing etc. There's not scary about it though, really.
Oreo = heat, 4 5 hours of battery
I am on nougat = 8+ hours of battery life. I have gotten to 9hours exactly in the past.
Can't really recommend an Oreo ROM, but Jaguar is recognized to be REALLY good and the developer is quite active.
AEX 5.* = Heat.
I am on AEX 4.4 (and I've tried all of the bigger ones), just switched to Heliox kernel (from 15.10) + AKT (advanced kernel tweaks) which basically gives me tramendous control over how my battery is used up. I just reset my battery stats, so AccuBattery will take awhile in order to calculate an accurate projection, but I am expecting to 9 and half to hopefully 10 hours of screen on time. I don't play games though.
The latest is not always the best.
If you want to take control of your phone, to be able to not see any ads on your phone, not waste data on such spam - custom ROM is the rout. If you don't care all that much, keep it stock.

which build are u using could u share the build link please coz i am also tired of flashing different roms mostly oero.. downloading new pe build right now... i have decided in case pe backup is not good i'll go back to nougat coz nothing diferrent really for basic user in o and n from ux perspective.
does 4.4 have offline charge ??? with or without heliox??

Thanks! I'm currently on ice cream sandwich and the possibility to get the latest relase probably got me a little too excited; if nougat is that much better i'll definitely choose a rom based on it
Do you have any recommendation for a noob-proof flashing guide? Considering how much i love trying different linux flavours i'm sure i'd enjoy flashing roms too

AKT is a must. Akt = 9+ hours sot normal use for me (browsing, messaging, a few phone calls, music), 10+ hours if mostly reading. I've opened a thread about AKT.
And sun cooling. Sun cooling uses some whatever fancy way of helping us keep the temp down (I don't understand too much), for me it is quite noticable when charging, but the consensus seems to be that it works well.
And also keep the background processes to a minimum (make use of appops to adjust permissions + forcedoze + maybe greenify) so your phone doesn't have at all issues going into deep sleep, my deep sleep is 99%, of screen off time, I'd drain 1% overnight for example, when I set it aside deep sleep is rock solid.
That's what I've found to be the most useful tips, I began the same journey as you awhile back, that's my second rooted phone.

Dual speaker mod is pretty great. That's the best sounding phone that have heard personally. As with any phone, the mid highs are exaggerated, have to be tuned down. Use the stereo option when flashing. I can guarantee you that you'll get as good results if you mirror my settings (and slightly adjust them to your preferences), screenshots attached. Don't go too much over -4.4db, you can go max to -2.0 (with my settings & EQs) and listen to music at maxed out levels totally 100% safely.

Dude go for AEX 5.2 25 DATE build...which is the best in oreo based roms...the main aim of this build is performance......and as per gaming this is the best of among all nougat and oreo based roms i know some of nougat fans boys ready restrict me..but one's you stick with aex 5.2 you never look back...trust me...once give it try....

When you purchase a phone, new or old, first have some experience with the stock device. Specially with used stuff, its way more important.
Custom ROM is designed to be used for user specific modification requirements.
I am not saying your vendor is planning to cheat you but a custom ROM with unlocked bootloader plus root can allow masking any issue present on the device.
Buy bone stock. Use it for couple of week to see if all device function are working as per manufacturers specifications !!
This also allows you to understand your own requirements for a custom ROM. Because this bring us to your question, future proofing.
No ROM is future proof, all roms are fruit of volunteering effort of lot of individuals. Secondly all ROMs have some good things are some bad, so only thing is future proof is to learn your self the steps needed for installing a custom ROM.
Search XDA for following steps and topics related to custom ROM installing.
1. Bootloader unlocking (dedicated thread present).
2. Downloading and installing TWRP
3. Downloading and flashing a custom ROM along with GApps.
You may need to switch between few roms to find what you feel best for your usage.
But before all this, spent couple of weeks with the bone stock device while you research here in XDA about those topics and discuss as you feel clearing doubts !!
Note:- if vendor is refusing to sell bone stock device, it's better no to buy it.

What NaXal said is right.. Custom ROM can be used to hide issues with phone by saying this feature is not support in custom ROM ++ also hide malicious software for capture personal info banking info.. Etc.. Buy phone stock ROM locked bootloader.. Root layery

Custom ROM for improving battery life and phone expérience.

Hello all !
I recently buy an samsung galaxy s9, I love it because of his size, today all manufacturers are racing for the biggest screen diagonal, but forget about the people who like compact phones.
the only thing I don't like is that the battery doesn't really last. I use some social networks like instagram or whatsapp to chat and the battery is not consistent enough for me, I think. (I uninstalled the bloatware app and made a maximum of optimization).
So I'm thinking about the solution of installing a custom rom. I'm doing some research and I like the pixel experience or the lineageOS.
The reason of my post is to ask you, you who know much better than me, is it really going to increase the duration of use?
Do you have any advice on this ? I read that you have to calibrate the battery after installing a rom but maybe you have other advice, a rom in particular, settings to do ?

Well I have a galaxy S9(5.8" size) and it's running NezukoOS with android 11. Pretty fluid and with light use I can get it to last me all day long, however I turn it off during night. If you really want more battery life, you should considerer using a custom kernel, as that is what is really going to improve battery life. The custom ROM will bring new features and make your phone feel different, but it usually doesn't improves battery life(at least the ones I tried out didn't help battery at all).

Can you recommend a kernel for better battery life?
And another question to NezukoOS or general AOSP roms.. can you unlock the device by pressing the 'invisible' home button on the screen? Is this option still available in these roms?

I used Nezuko Os and Yes the invisible home button was working for me.. But i switch now from nezuko back to the stock ffirmware cause i love the one ui design etc..

Well I never used a custom kernel as I didn't had any problems with battery life, but I do know a ROM which comes with a modded kernel. It's call Noble ROM, and brings ONE UI 3 with android 11 to the galaxy S9. I tried it out and it works pretty good, and when you install it you have a modded kernel that will ask you if you want to improve performance or battery life, here is the link if you are interested on it https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-03-2021-sm-n960f-fd-n-sm-g96xf-fd-n.4244747/ However if you prefer the stock Android I can't really help you, but for sure there are a lot of kernels on XDA forums, you just need to search one.

I didn't miss it actually, because I use navigation gestures, so the only moment I used was to turn it on. I don't know if that answers your question... I also tried noble Rome, but every time it was very laggy and the interior assistant almost always crashed. I had to restart my device very often. My phone had also overheated and I uninstalled it again. no matter how often I did a reflash it was always laggy as described above

Oh yeah that's bad. My phone also overheated when I tried it however I thought it could be because I overclock it's CPU. My main problem was the camera didn't work almost all times and I needed to restart the phone continuously, so I went back to NezukoOS.
I also liked ONE UI however I don't know if that happened to you but my phone was very slow on ONE UI and animations almost all times were very laggy. That's why I start using AOSP, and also because I really like the new features.

I am also considering whether I should stay with aosp or go back to the sttock firmware. Both have advantages and disadvantages

I don't bo back because of various reasons. First and more important, it's starting to be obsolete and Android 12 is going to be released in August I think, which makes android 10 be 2 years old. Also this customs ROMs give a lot of features that I don't find on the original ONE UI, like caffeine. Finally, performance. My phone was slow and laggy on stock firmware but now its super fast, as if it was brand new. Hope this help you decide.

Yeah I imagine that would happen. Glad to know we have one more user on this ROM

What do you think about arrow os? I am undetermined which one i should give a try. I prefer a very clean and hardly debloated os.

I dont like the Samsung stuff so i'd like to try aosp. I think i can live without volte and wifi call

No problem! Glad to know that this is useful.
I tried Arrow OS however I used it only for 2 days. The ROM was good and seem to be stable however it didn't have a function which for me was crucial, smart charging (charges your phone only to 80% to slow down its degradation) so I went back to NezukoOS. Arrow OS and AOSP are in general don't have bloatware and useless applications preinstalled however if you don't want a lot of features PixelExpirience(not the plus version) is going to be good for you. It's simple, very smooth and almost identical to a Google Pixel experience. LineageOS and ArrowOS however have more features built-in.
