PS3/4 DualShock controller support? - Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra Questions & Answers

Got a new XA1 Ultra (G3223) and I was hoping to use my old DualShock 3 controller with it for games, especially emulators.
The DS3 does work fine when wired into a PC or my old Moto G running LineageOS, but when I plug the controller into my XA1 Ultra using a Type-C to Type A OTG adapter it doesn't seem to be recognized or work at all.
All other USB devices I've tried work right away when plugged into the the adapter (Logitech wired game controller, flash drives, keyboards, wireless mice)
Has anyone had better success getting any PlayStation controllers to work with the XA1 Ultra? Would rooting make any difference? Does Sony intentionally disable support for their own controllers on some phones for some reason? I know they are officially supported on some Xperia phones, but seems very strange to me that the Logitech controller which is basically a wired DS3 knock-off works perfectly but an actual Sony controller doesn't.
The battery in my DS3 is long dead so no way to try wireless right now, was thinking about maybe buying a replacement battery to be able to use it with the Sixaxis Controller app which I already own, if/when I root my XA1 Ultra that is, but I think you need to wire the controller in to pair it in the first place.. unless that has changed.
Might also just wait and buy the 8bitdo SNES30 Pro when it's released..

I have the same problem, I have been using xperia phones for about 4 years, first a T2 ultra, then a C5 ultra, with those didn't have any trouble using my dualshock4 controller, then I got the Xa1 ultra, and the controller does not work with it. I think it has to do with the fact, that Sony now supports ps4 remote play on Android, but only in their High end phones, I think they (badly) removed the driver in the other phones. That's SO WRONG! probably my next phone won't be a xperia!

[XOOM 2] Xoom 2 ME - Joypad support?

Since Honeycomb provides support for various game controllers, I thought I'd give my Xbox 360 controllers a try. Neither the wired or wireless (via MS USB/wireless adapter) devices are recognised by my Xoom 2 ME.
I am using a USB OTG cable that works perfectly with a flash drive and a mouse.
Logcat shows no entries at all when the Xbox controllers are plugged in, which perhaps suggests that the stock firmware doesn't support them.
Has anyone else been able to get USB joypads or other game controllers to work with the Xoom 2 natively? I'm avoiding IME hacks and suchlike as I would like something that will work with the new controller APIs.
I know there's only about three people in the world (other than me) who actually bought the Xoom 2 ME, but surely one of you has a joypad you can test out?
I spotted a cheap-ish controller (£17) when out shopping and decided to give it a try.
I got the Power-A Air-Flo PS3 controller, which actually has an overall layout similar to an Xbox 360 controller (which is what I'm used to).
This was recognised by the X2ME straight away and I was able to have a quick game of Cordy with it. As a bonus, and since it's a standard HID controller, it works on my Ubuntu laptop as well.
So perhaps the X2ME is a bit fussier about its controllers than some other tablets, or perhaps there's additional tweaking needed to get the Xbox controllers working.
My ultimate aim is to be able to plug this tablet into a TV in a hotel room via HDMI and use it as a portable games console. Currently I'm having trouble with the Micro-HDMI to HDMI connection and I'm not sure if it's a problem with the cable, the socket on the X2ME, or some software issue. So far I have been able to get a picture to appear on the TV only intermittently and haven't yet had both the game controller and the HDMI output working at the same time.
Edit: Have just managed to get the HDMI out running for long enough to test with the controller and it worked really well. Once I have figured out the reason for the intermittent HDMI output, it'll be time to find games available for the X2ME that support an external controller
I realise I'm pretty much just talking to myself on this thread, so here's a picture to liven things up ;-)

i just tried two usb controllers
logitect rumblePad 2(normal pc game controller) that's works perfectly and a logitect chillstream (windows recognize it as an xbox360 controller) that's is not working (although powerup and tablet recognized it )
Thanks for the info. It is starting to look like there may be an issue recognising Xbox-type controllers, though it's based on a rather small sample at this stage

Very cool. Thanks for the info! I may try and get my Classic Controller + WiiMote to do the same thing via Bluetooth, which I've done before on my old G2.

[Q] which plug and Play game controller?

Hi,
I'm wanting a good game controller for use with game emulation. I have connected my PS3 controller by Bluetooth but it cant be used at the same time as the firetv remote.
Can anyone recommend me a good one? I don't mind wired controller, just want a plug and play solution
Thanks
Hard Candy controllers are great and they are plug and play. Plus they take regular batteries so you don't have to worry about charging yur controller. I personally hate the idea of a rechargable controller.
I'm using the Logitech f710 controller which comes with a usb Wi-Fi dongle, seems to work fine on the games I've tested so far.

[Q] Xbox 360 controller not supported?

I recently bought myself a cheapie tablet - Lenovo a3500, the only reason being, to watch movies, read some comics, and game on the go a little. Imagine my surprise, when everything works just fine, but my xbox 360 controller doesn't work. I plug in the OTG cable, plug in my controller, and all that happens, is the light flashes on my controller. What could be the problem? Every other USB device works just fine, even an old, cheap PS2 knock-off controller works, but not the xbox 360 one.
Tablet's specs:
CPU:Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7
GPU:Mali-400MP2
Android version: 4.4.2 KitKat
Any help with this problem will be appreciated!

I use an xbox 360 controller with my pc, and I know when you plug it in for the first time, it needs to find and download the drivers for it to work, which means the 360 controller doesn't just work out of the box; it needs special drivers which I'm sure android doesn't have. There may be some apks out there that would allow it to run on android, but that may require the tablet to be rooted.

The controller isn't straight out of the box, I've actually used it quite a bit on my PC. After digging around the Internet a bit I found out, that the Xbox keylayout file may be missing from my tablet, but that's all I got.
The only reason I haven't rooted my device, is that out of the three times I've tried rooting only one time has been successful, and I really don't want to send my brand new tablet to get repaired. I tried the towelroot method today, but sadly that didn't work.

USB-C or wireless gamepad support?

Gamepad support was never an issue prior to getting the Pixel XL. Xbox One nor DS4 controllers will register anything with games that are confirmed gamepad compatible. I've tried OTG cable with both controllers and even tried my luck using DS4 through bluetooth. The device recognizes that there's something connected to the USB-C port, however there's no interaction. Anybody else experiencing the same issues/found a work around?
Thank you

That very well could be it.. I'd hate to have to invest in another controller.
The weird part is that the games recognize there is a controller attached..
Xbox one controller isn't working at all on pixel xl. Any update on this?

I just bought this phone and it seems none my gamepad controller works, MIUI Problem?

I have been using both Wired and Wireless Xbox 360 Controllers using OTG and the 360 dongle receiver (Also DS3 Wired) in my Samsung A8 2018 revision. And I decided to try my controllers with my Redmi Note 8 Pro and it seems both wired and wireless don't work or no support with the Operating System such as the MIUI.
Samsung has built-in drivers and supported various 3rd party controllers including the official ones such as the PlayStation controllers or the Xbox controllers.
It seems that MIUI doesn't have a built-in controller software support or it doesn't have these features at all.
Any advice on how to get this thing sort it out?
Same problem here .But the controller works with redmi note 6pro which has a micro usb. If I convert to other os will it work.??
