USB-C or wireless gamepad support? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Gamepad support was never an issue prior to getting the Pixel XL. Xbox One nor DS4 controllers will register anything with games that are confirmed gamepad compatible. I've tried OTG cable with both controllers and even tried my luck using DS4 through bluetooth. The device recognizes that there's something connected to the USB-C port, however there's no interaction. Anybody else experiencing the same issues/found a work around?
Thank you

My Moga Power gamepad works fine via Bluetooth, maybe just an issue with wired controllers?

That very well could be it.. I'd hate to have to invest in another controller.
The weird part is that the games recognize there is a controller attached..

Xbox one controller isn't working at all on pixel xl. Any update on this?

anyone try usb controllers?

Hey, did anyone here use USB controllers through an otg cable? If so did it work with emulators?
I'm going to buy a USB nes controller for nesoid and find out but I would be happier knowing that people here have been able to do things like this. I use my Bluetooth keyboard just fine so I hope it is as easy as that.
I have read about people having success with usb controllers. I know I do.
I tried a Logitech USB controller connected to a hub. It worked flawlesslyand i was able to map all the keys.
That is good to hear. Since I can HDMI out my xoom to my TV I can get the true experience practically without trying to buy another nes.
On a side note: why is everybody using USB hubs? Ever since USB hosting I have noticed it is a common thing lying around the house. Maybe one day when I have more USB peripherals I will understand but right now everything is Bluetooth.
I've tested two controllers so far, a PS3 one, and a PS2 controller connected via a USB adapter.
The PS3 worked perfectly except for in N64oid, I could map all the buttons, but for some reason the d-pad and analog sticks don't work to move Mario around in Mario 64 (the only game I've tested). It worked great in FPse, SNESoid, etc, etc.
The PS2 controller connected to a USB adapter would work to move the screen around, but when I tried to map any keys in apps they would just show as "unknown"
My Super Dual Box Pro doesn't seem to work right with the -oid series of emulators. Analog up/down/left/right works ok in the emulator menus, but none of the buttons do anything in the game, even after mapping. All of the buttons say "unknown".

I use a hub because I keep all my ROMs on it. I plug in my controller and thumbdrive. I believe that you can also plug in an additional controller for multiplayer games line Mario Kart.

[XOOM 2] Xoom 2 ME - Joypad support?

Since Honeycomb provides support for various game controllers, I thought I'd give my Xbox 360 controllers a try. Neither the wired or wireless (via MS USB/wireless adapter) devices are recognised by my Xoom 2 ME.
I am using a USB OTG cable that works perfectly with a flash drive and a mouse.
Logcat shows no entries at all when the Xbox controllers are plugged in, which perhaps suggests that the stock firmware doesn't support them.
Has anyone else been able to get USB joypads or other game controllers to work with the Xoom 2 natively? I'm avoiding IME hacks and suchlike as I would like something that will work with the new controller APIs.
I know there's only about three people in the world (other than me) who actually bought the Xoom 2 ME, but surely one of you has a joypad you can test out?
I spotted a cheap-ish controller (£17) when out shopping and decided to give it a try.
I got the Power-A Air-Flo PS3 controller, which actually has an overall layout similar to an Xbox 360 controller (which is what I'm used to).
This was recognised by the X2ME straight away and I was able to have a quick game of Cordy with it. As a bonus, and since it's a standard HID controller, it works on my Ubuntu laptop as well.
So perhaps the X2ME is a bit fussier about its controllers than some other tablets, or perhaps there's additional tweaking needed to get the Xbox controllers working.
My ultimate aim is to be able to plug this tablet into a TV in a hotel room via HDMI and use it as a portable games console. Currently I'm having trouble with the Micro-HDMI to HDMI connection and I'm not sure if it's a problem with the cable, the socket on the X2ME, or some software issue. So far I have been able to get a picture to appear on the TV only intermittently and haven't yet had both the game controller and the HDMI output working at the same time.
Edit: Have just managed to get the HDMI out running for long enough to test with the controller and it worked really well. Once I have figured out the reason for the intermittent HDMI output, it'll be time to find games available for the X2ME that support an external controller
I realise I'm pretty much just talking to myself on this thread, so here's a picture to liven things up ;-)

i just tried two usb controllers
logitect rumblePad 2(normal pc game controller) that's works perfectly and a logitect chillstream (windows recognize it as an xbox360 controller) that's is not working (although powerup and tablet recognized it )
Thanks for the info. It is starting to look like there may be an issue recognising Xbox-type controllers, though it's based on a rather small sample at this stage

Very cool. Thanks for the info! I may try and get my Classic Controller + WiiMote to do the same thing via Bluetooth, which I've done before on my old G2.

EMULATOR GAMING: Phonejoy seems to be the best BT-controller... but nothing on it!

WTH?
I searched the entire Galaxy Nexus forum and came up with squat on this. ONE whole member seems to have a phonejoy and just one person saying it works isn't really enough of an assurance to take a $50 risk on a controller.
I searched on Google as well for "galaxy nexus phonejoy" and didn't come up with anything either
I thought a big advantage Android had over iPhone, Windows Phone 7 was the fact that you could use an emulator (snesoid, nesoid, etc) + bluetooth controller + MHL adapter plugged into a bigscreen to fully simulate a console.
Does anyone have a phonejoy that they use with the above setup in order to use their phone to its fullest gaming abilities?
Only other options seem to be a wiimote (not viable for games that need 4 right hand buttons) or some sort of rooted PS3 Dual Shock / Sixaxis app (not looking to root)
Well if your going to try mhl setup that and a 360 controller works great. I use that in my A500.
Can't comment on Bluetooth, but it should just work, might require an app. You might get more answers in a tablet forum. Go try in the prime section there are probably more people doing what you asking for

Six axis controller app. Nuff said.
let it be.
I have a phonejoy and yes it work great on Nexus. You need BluezIME to make it work.

I bought that when sixaxis didnt work on CM7 for my SG S2.
MHL+phonejoy is awesome. Playing emulator on TV

USB OTG Adapter + USB XBOX360 controller works like a charm (I would add a Powered USB Hub in the middle so the controller doesn't drain power from the phone battery)... But, as you are using the USB port, no MHL joy in this case...
Some people say XBOX360 Wireless controller works fine if you have the Wireless Kit for PC, which comes with an USB - XBOX Wireless adapter, never tried that, so I can't say it works for sure...
Finally, which is the best (and in my oppinion only good alternative) option to play in the big screen, MHL - HDMI adapter to connect phone to TV, and, Six Axis (PS3) Controller and the SixAxis APP like @rbiter recommended.... You will probably need root and the USB OTG adapter helps PS3 controller pairing process much easier, but if you don't have the USB OTG adapter, you can use a PC to do this pairing proccess, just don't ask me how as I have no idea...

I think the six axis app doesn't require the PC pairing anymore. I could be wrong because I haven't messed with it since the last major updae. I think the dev put some magic in his code.
let it be.
The wireless 360 does work with dongle but with that it will not work with onlive,
does anyone know if that universal onlive controller would work with everything, i believe it connects via Bluetooth
i haven't done this on the nexus but this is my experience with my tablet running
a cm9 build

What does this mean? I've never used it, do you know what the step by step process is to getting a bluetooth controller working with the six-axis app?
Thanks for any help you can give.

All the instructions are on the app page. Its easy even if you have to do the PC setup. You're just getting the Bluetooth address off the six axis controller. Its worth it. Trust me. Spending $2 or whatever is a lot cheaper than getting an icontrol controller. And the six axis is good for fpse emulator too.
let it be.
You will laugh at how easy it is to set it up on the computer.

I use six axis, ps3 and the hdmi out to my big screen and it works great on a lot more than just emulators. If you Google six axis you can find lists of games you can use it for, and I'm using for more than what was on the list cause manually setting up profiles for specific games is actually very easy.

Game Controller

I'm almost pulling my hair out in frustration...
I've got a 2013 N7 and it has stock 4.4 on it and I just cannot get the PlayStation controller I have to work with anything apart from sixaxis.
I know some games I have like GTAIII has support for controllers but can anyone tell me how it is enabled...I fell like I'm missing something obvious...
Story so far...
I've got 3 OTG cables - all tested.
A (genuine) PS3 sixaxis controller
USB cable
I have now rooted it and bought the sixaxis app and have managed to successfully pair them both up but over a cable \ Bluetooth \ whatever, it just doesn't want to know.....any ideas...? Is it working for anyone else?
(also, mouse doesn't work - both of these worked fine on my N7 v1!!)
Cheers,
Smiffy.

What game Controllers that work with Pixel XL 2? wireless or corded

Street Fighter IV CE just came out for Android and I want to know what controllers work with the Pixel XL 2 before I drop the 4.99 on the game to unlock all the characters.
In the past you had to be rooted to use PS controllers with android but I wanted specific info from Pixel XL 2 users.
I use corded 360.controller!
I'm using a PS4 gamepad (wired) when I need analog sticks and more buttons, and a Buffalo SNES clone gamepad (wired too) for retro gaming. Both work great
Wired USB game controllers won't work for me on any of the Pixel devices (Pixel, Pixel 2 and Pixel C). They are powered up and LEDs are on but register no input. And I have tried various USB-C adapters and various USB gamepads. Just to clarify, all of these gamepads work perfectly with Nexus 5X (USB-C), Nexus 6 (Micro USB) and Nexus 9 (Micro USB).
My Pixel devices are running the latest Android updates as of July 2018 and all are not rooted. Could it be that Google has silently removed support for USB gamepads with recent updates?
i use the XBO controller with bluetooth works fine.
Without root?
