Simple question, really.
Trebuchet was CyanogenMod's default launcher. Is that going to be updated and maintained or will Lineage just use Google Now Launcher or similar?
The only reason I can think of for LineageOS not continuing to maintain and update Trebuchet would be if Cyanogen Inc had close sourced it. I do not know if that is the case, but it seems unlikely.

Trebuchet, at least on my device (HTC A9) is a steaming pile of ?that would be better off if It died. It's literally had the same problems since CM 12. As far as I can tell it's been abandoned anyway. It's a lot like Internet explorer in that sense. It's there to work good enough to allow you to install an actual launcher.

Same. I use nova for the customisation. I was just curious as to what would become of trebuchet.

I haven't heard a clear answer yet but I suspect things like trebuchet, snap or anything else that was CM related might pose a legal danger. I've read quite a bit on it but it's terribly complicated. There's cyanogen OS , cyanogen mod and Android AOSP.
From what I've read cyanogen OS is the only thing cyanogen Inc really owns but I know when the transition first happened several devs pulled apps that had been intergraded with CM. I'm not sure whether they did that because it meant they'd have to surrender there ability to keep the app open source because of cyanogen os or they weren't happy with the deal or what. Perhaps someone else can shed more light on it.
I'm curious to know how many of the tweaks (such as is system settings) and apps (such as trebuchet) are actually licensed under cyanogen Inc. I guess we will soon find out.
Seeing how they shut the server's down early I'm guessing it was a nasty break up and in those deals we might see a level of legal pettiness that might not usually be seen in a more civil breakup. The guy Kondik hired appears to a be a huge douchenozzle.

I'd like to get some black subtratum theme for my A1 but one thing worries me if its gonna decrease stability of my phone even by slightest bit, like performance, or if its likely to cause any problems (visual or technical) after android updates, or i will have uptade the theme every time something changes visually in OS. One thing to note is that all i need is some black layout for my oreo (menus, default apps like calendar, keyboard, dialer, lock screen, etc), im not interested in customising any third-party apps, not even google apps. Also to note, im using Nova Launcher and wondering if there are no comptability issues with it.

I use substratum with swiftblack theme it is stable . If you uninstall first all overlays s in substratum manager and then update the theme and then reapply them after each update you dont have many bugs. Sometimes there are some bugs but they fix them . I dont think there is a decrease in phones performance. There is no issue with nova launcher. The thing you should do first is disable the autoupdate of apps in playstore. Update the apps when a new version of the theme is out. I use substratum with my mia1 with april update and with my s7(oreo). With my mia1 i use the nexus or pixel guide in swiftblack theme.

I use Pitch Black. It's perfect. The only problem you might get is if you have apps set too auto update. As some overlys have vto be set to app version. So YouTube etc can cause hiccups. But the Developer normally updates them as soon as new updates are out. Don't worry too much its easy to fix.
I've updated to the latest June patch with 8.1 Oreo. I've rooted with magisk and substratum works without any issues. No lags or performance problems. Battery also doesn't drain.
I'm attaching a screenshot . Using Pi Dark Theme
Guys im not going to root my phone, all i want is black themed system, not apps other than stock tools from android. Can i install it without applying it to other apps like YouTube, Facebook and all that? And does it cause any glitches after updates as a clean replacement for standard white theme from oreo? I will pass if its gonna bring any extra trouble for me, i simply dont want to deal with it anymore in the future, it just annoys me but a black theme instead white would be great.

You're not getting the gist of what we are explaining. We cannot post the black theme overlay you want because warez is not allowed in the forums. For one, you will need Substratum + you need to buy the Andromeda add-on if you're not going to root. Andromeda will use ADB commands from your PC to enable theme support on your Mi A1. Also, when you access themes through substratum, you can select which apps to enable the overlays on. You can skip the other apps and just theme the Settings app, framework and SystemUI. You will need to update the themes through Substratum whenever an update arrives for the theme you are using. If you are thinking this through too much, I would suggest stay away from theming.

Thanks, i think i will pass then. That sounds distracting enough for me. Even if its just a periodic update to the theme it will eventually piss me off on occasion when something suddenly breaks, and id rather have the least amount of distractions at the cost of worse design.

Most themes only breaks on third party apps. Settings app, SystemUI and Android Framework updates are usually minimal and doesn't lead to crashing. Updating the overlay through Substratum then rebooting fixes the issues easily.

I mainly followed the guide.
After updating to the June patch ( i had already unlocked my bootloader before May Patch)
1. Booted to latest twrp and made a back-up of boot .Renamed it to boot.img .
2. Then i installed magisk and patched the boot image.
3. Then from fastboot i booted with the Patched image . And installed magisk via 'Direct Install' method.
The phone rebooted. And it was rooted.
PS. In case u want the patched boot img for June, I'm leaving a link

Awesome. Thanks!
Be Aware that this is a Chinese beta rom. Unless you are familiar with westernizing Chinese Roms, you may want to wait for the Xiaomi.EU version that should come out ASAP.
If you install this, install Google chrome, and Google search through the Xiaomi store, then you can install Play Store and freeze all unwanted apps. If it's not in the store , it can be downloaded from any APK website.
Glad that Miui 11 is finally here bust isn't It annoying that Xiaomi makes most of us, the western world wait so long for the best features?
I have been using Xiaomi.EU for the past two months and it's been fantastic. Yesterday I installed the latest Global Stable 10.3.5 and it's like going back to March. It is missing A LOT! of stuff that the Chinese Beta Miui 10 per Xiaomi.EU has.
I would definitely wait for the release of Xiaomi.eu. It will be polished, without the bloatware and with the Play Store and Google Services already included. In three days, we should have a Update on the website.
I have tried Pixel Experience( Android 10 ) on the MI 8, and it's good, but it's far, very far from the functions that we have with our MIUI.

What functions for example? Miui is ugly af and I don't think there are actually many useful, not gimmicky, features that make it worth using Miui over other custom rom. Also from what I am seeing, Miui 11 is still based on Android 9.

First I like AOSP a lot , and noone is making you use Miui, so.......
a quick google search would have told you that Miui 11 for the Mi8 is based on Android Q edit : it pie for or now but will switch to Q
It's been well publicised that its totally redesigned and will have a look and feel closer to OneUI. Yes, devices older than 4 years will get Miui 11 on their existing SDK. The Mi8 will get Q
By the way, since you hate Miui so much why bother commenting?
It seems that your post serve's zero purpose and simply just clutter's up the thread. A lot of people feel the same way about AOSP, that it's boring and bland, so your point is what exactly ?
Also, so many people install AOSP, and then immediately start installing Xposed, Substratum, Custom lock screens, ultimately making it closer to what Miui is. At the end of the day, nothing is better than anything else.

Why so abrasive? I was making a genuine question. From all the videos I've seen, and the dipper group in Telegram, this version of MIUI 11 is based on Pie.
I do not use any kind of modifications other than custom roms, I don't even root anymore so for me all those functions you are claiming (which I was asking out of curiosity) seem completely unnecessary and gimmicky in my opinion.

It seems that I misunderstood your initial comment, which I took as being abrasive and if that wasn't your intent then I absolutely apologize.
Okay so I installed Miui 11 and its flat amazing, its hard to believe that this is the first beta! tremendously smooth. The animations and scaling down of Miui makes it seem almost like something else. I was very happy to see that all of my data was restored, and I was able to install Playstore and Play Services from the miui App Store.
Next yes its based on Android Q, ( My bad its Pie, but Q is coming) and so far I have no plans to use anything else. I like it, alot. If you plan to install. Be sure to turn off automatic updates, this way you can control when they get installed and there's is no surprises. I am using the latest official Twrp and the latest Magisk Canary, and I flashed DM verity and Magisk prior to booting. One last thing, I formatted user data, wiped and rebooted my phone prior to installing the rom within recovery.
Edit:
If you do not have an extensive mI cloud backup, install Gboard or your keyboard of choice as soon as you can. Otherwise you may get confused by the multi language keyboard.
For me it's no big deal because I have used Chinese roms many times in the past and speak basic chinese. However, it is possible to click a button and move the keyboard into chinese if this happens just click the chinese character on the bottom left to return to English. You will not run into these issues if using swiftkey or Gboard. Next, after you have signed in to Google and have verified your apps, you can use a different launcher if wanted and install app freeze to install any unwanted apps.
Be sure to attempt uninstalling unwanted apps before freezing them, some are easily uninstalled. Finally, I have not seem a single ad. Dark mode works extremely well and so does the themes store. Be sure to format to avoid issues. Make sure that you use root, this is a beat do not expect things like Google pay , or whatsapp to work, maybe they will work I don't know. My cellular service gets LTE, I can send and receive text, and I can use Hangouts.
Awesome job mate. That's really cool. The description you gave and the steps provided, helps a lot.
Yes, not all of us understand Chinese, so it will be difficult to read what they say , but still, I will wait for the launch on Xiaomi.eu, even though, I know that Root was already working on Android 10 since a few days ago.
What bugs have you encountered so far? You say that Mobile Data works, Calls and SMS. Dark Mode, and apparently everything.
What about the Camera? Are there any big differences?
Now, replying to @Kurz97 : Do you wanna know why I bought a phone with a MIUI interface? Because I like it. Don't get me wrong, I worked with AOSP a lot of time, and the beauty of Pure Android. Pay attention, Pure, means Pure, no mods, no changes in the UI, just plain simple. Only changes are Root, Adaway, and that's it.
Second, there are plenty of Rom's to choose from for MI 8, most of them, based on AOSP and the changes that the developers enable. I have tried as said before, Pixel Experience, and it's gorgeous. I really love the transition from the recent apps, and it's a very smooth Rom as well. But the fact that I can choose to have a MIUI based Rom or a AOSP it just makes it so much better.
In the past, I owned a Nexus 6p, and guess what? There was no MIUI for it. I was stuck with AOSP. So for me, the fact that I can choose from two distinguished interfaces, it's always better than being stuck to just one, isn't it? Have a good day

Okay, I just found out from the Mi Forum that this initial and maybe the next few releases are 9. However, Q is definitely coming once the wrinkles gets ironed out. Apparently there are a lot of problems Q right now.

Be sure to first uninstall chinese apps, then freeze some of the Xiaomi updater services.. This is done most easily with App Quarantine.
Next, download and install all google apps that you typical use and give them all permission and at least temporarily turn off battery manager. I did this and will supposedly get 12 hours SOT in regular mode.
For contact you need to ad your Google account, it's in settings.

I am also on the UI5 beta.
I can't directly suggest anything that solves your problem. But I can at least give you a little insight. I am using Nova Launcher. I already knew that with Android 12L and 13, Nova Launcher didn't support the new taskbar. So I also assume any other new switching features are also unsupported while using Nova Launcher. So why am I replying? The more traditional app switching works just fine for me while using Nova Launcher.
I'll be interested to learn whether other users of the full UI5 beta are having the same experience so we can understand if your experience is an anomaly or a general beta bug.
But if it is a general bug, you might want to use a third party launcher until the next beta or the imminent general release.
If this needs to be explored further, I can also try changing my launcher to Samsung's default to see whether I have the same experience as you. But first let's see what others have to say.

If this needs to be explored further, I can also try changing my launcher to Samsung's default to see whether I have the same experience as you. But first let's see what others have to say.

I also asked my question in the lawnchair telegram group and they said it's a bug with the good lock apps from Samsung and lawnchair not playing right together on the beta. So I guess I'm going to switch to nova. I used to have nova and gave it up for foss but I always missed it.
I'm running stock Launcher and app switcher /recent apps is broken in landscape mode. There's a null pointer error because of a colour that's undefined. Could be related to your issues

Since I've made this thread I've tried nova, action, Niagara, neo, lawnchair V2, Microsoft launcher, and I think a couple more and all have app switching broken for me.
So I made a bug report with the Samsung members app thing. Not sure if it's worth much considering how much I've debloated this device because idk how much data they can still get from me.

I've sent them a couple of bug reports on it and even sent them the log with the null pointer error
