Hi,
Probably a noob question but cannot find a clear answer on the web.
I've started to develop a multi platform game using Unity and now looking at testing the game on various devices (including old second-hand handsets from eBay). Since I am interested in testing different versions of Android, would LineageOS a good option for testing the game?
I assume if the game works fine on LineageOS it should work fine on other Android variants (stock, touchwiz etc) ?
Thanks
Will

I don't think a test on lineageOS says anything about compatibility with older devices on stock ROM up to lollipop. But you can test dependency on Google play services by not installing GApps.

any version below lollipop is less than 20% of the market so I am happy to have the game available only for lollipop or even marshmallow onwards
So you think testing an app or a game with lineageOS 14 or 15 is not a good test for compatibility with other Android handheld devices on similar versions? I may not be on the right forum but what is the usual approach for ensuring an app is compatible with a maximum of Android devices?

Is installing CM, on my new tab s 8.4 a bad idea? I know it's say device is still in development for it but I'm getting frustrated with touchwiz automatically installing useless apps like NYTIMES and crap like that. And I feel like it's eating my ram for no reason whatsoever. If not CM is there anything else available or do I have to wait a month/few months I can do so? I saw that CM works well with tab pro 8.4 but the only difference between the two is the hardware correct?
Would flashing it in anyway fix this? I'm new to android tablet devices and any android devices, so I have no clue how to do it. If it's not too much trouble maybe somebody could show me a guide?
I'm new to this forum and if I've broken any rules I apologise. I hope I can get some help & advice, thanks in advance. I posted this in another thread but I didn't want to ninja it.
Perhaps, installing BLCKASOP? Since I read from the forum here that it makes the device consume less ram and such, but I also have no clue how to do that, I apologise once again.
Thanks
As a new user I would recommend against flashing roms heavily in beta stages. Too many bugs. There are a number of good 8.4 roms available in Development. You can uninstall bloat yourself using System App Safe Remover from the playstore but you must be rooted to use this. I also recommend using Nova Launcher.

I thought I replied to you but apparently I didn't.. Are there any easy guides available on how to root this specific device? I know what Nova Launcher is, but what is exactly used for?

You honestly need to do some research before messing with your tablet. Everything I could tell you here has already been said online 1000 times before. Until you have a lot more knowledge, best to remain stock.
Google Nova Launcher for a start. The Development section has a couple threads on rooting.
Hi.
I am a hobby newbie programmer who would like to make my own android apps.
I say sorry before hand, if maybe some of my questions dont make sense or is a bit weird. Mind you I am a beginner, so I may confuse some things up.
Right now I dont have and Android Phone, But i am considering buying the Oneplus 3 as my first Android Unit.
My question is will this be a good phone to start developing some very simple Android apps on.
I am a bit confused about the Oxygen / Marsmellow OS.
Is the Oneplus 3 fully programable as every other Android phone even it uses the Oxygen OS ?
Can I use a tool like Android studio to develop apps on the Oneplus 3 like just out the box. Or will i have to do a lot of setup and download all kinds of weird stuff before I can get it to work ?
Also are there another phone in like the same price range that would be a better choise regarding i want it to work with Android studio without having to hazzle with all kinds of combatibility problems ?
Awww, your questions show that you'll have a loooooooong way until your first working/usable Android app...

no ****, sherlock..
and what exactly hindered you to just answer his questions?
@mic68:

> Yes, fully programable its based on android 6 marshmallow so no problem there

>Yes, you can, but you should first start by reading the tutorials and maybe consider working with the android studio builtin emulator.. the apps which work there, will work on your 1+3

>in this price range? no.
but yeah, you should really start by reading all kinds of tutorials and youtube videos..

I will order the Oneplus 3 very soon when they get more covers in stock.
Hi all,
Been trying to get Half life 2 to run on my HTC 10 (great game from back in the day which would run perfectly on the 10)
The game is from the catalogue allowed only by nvidia devices like the shield, Half life 2 has been ported over.
GL Tools allows certain games to run by spoofing certain parts of your android version afaik.
In the past you should be able to simply install the APK and the data which would normally reside in Android/Data/Obb but this no longer works as it used to.
I've bought the app by logging into my friends shield and buying it (£9.95 ) so now my phone when opening it does actually see that it's licensed but the game continues to fall flat.
My friend who has an S7 on Marshmallow with the same settings has it working perfectly.
Has anyone used this before? GLTools? OR have any insight as to what settings would best suit our phones?
I'm running Viper Rom 5.9.0 which is Nougat, I may try to roll back to see if it works but if anyone knows of a way around that i'd love to know.
Spoke with the dev who's advised me that android version shouldn't matter but i can't see any other difference between our phones besides hardware, I've changed pretty much every setting, the dev also provided me with a script but that didn't help.
Any advice or experience would help.
Thanks
Bump, I am also trying to do the same but I am trying with a stock rooted nougat rom. Will do anything to make this game work on this device. Any advice?

If you'll do anything then rollback to marshmallow..It'll work. Nougat just does not like half life 2. Simply put.

Hi I am new to the phone modding thing and have a few questions before I go and install this on my Moto G4:
Is cellular service just plug and play pretty much? Does it read the sim card and automatically be able to connect?
There are a lot of nightly builds of the rom, do I have to reinstall at any point or does it just update like a rolling release distro?
How does security work with this os? Do these updates keep up with the official supported roms in that area?
I have only used oem android, so I am not aware of the differences in the usage between them, other than Lineage is much more open.
Hi Newbie,
I have had nothing to do with mobile setup. Standard things like phonecalls, sms, mobile data work well. People have issues with more exotic things like VoLTE.
LineageOS usually gets better with every build. So it's a good idea to keep it up to date. In the first days of each month there is a security update released by Google. It makes it whay to LineageOS till the middle of month (much faster than Motorola). So to keep up with security it's enoug to update once a month and skip the other weeklys. Updating is verry easy. LineageOS has a built in updater that does the downloading and flashing.
One big difference to built in Android is the possibility to get rid of Google Apps. I regard them as spy-ware. They are not part of LineageOS, but can optionally be installed. Google PlayStore and PlayServices have many security functions that are good to have for older Android versions. I think, I don't need these functions due to my up-to-date LineageOS.
ok thank you, that sounds great!

Summer survey results have been released. Without gapps I'm member of a small minority. But LOS devs care for us.
I only use my smartphone for OTPs... Authy, the Steam app etc and hopefully my bank account app. The thing is, the bank account app only works on Android 6+.
Given all that I want is Android 6 or above please can someone recommend a ROM. Something that works well...GPS and WiFi included. The phone doesn't have a SIM card and I'm thinking about using it to track my running.
Thanks for any help. I've barely used a smartphone since the s4 mini came out so I'm a bit overwhelmed by it all!
I don't use banking apps and GPS only rarely. Last time battery drain because of using GPS. Well, maybe because of Sunlight...
LineageOS 17 works well. Use the right version. Banking app with Magisk Root should be possible, but I don't know how.
A new cheap phone with original ROM and better GPS may be better for you.
Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry it's taken so long to respond... accidentally wiped my password manager file, lost my login details and forgot which email I registered with! Nightmare!
I'll give LineageOS 17 a whirl.
I'm sorry to ask a question that has been asked a million times!
Is there a straight forward set of instructions available to help me flash my phone? I would like to make a backup of the current (factory) ROM and then flash it with a LineageOS 17 ROM that hasn't been tampered with. No offence intended to people that mod released ROMs, I'd like something that has come from the initial developers.
Thank you!
EDIT: Yes, I have considered buying a new phone. I love the size of the Galaxy S4 mini and have seen that Sony (I think!) has released more recent phones of similar size. I may well buy a replacement if I can't get LineageOS to do what I need. Thanks
I should add that I prefer to use Linux (OpenSuse)... if Windows is necessary it's WIndows 10.
