RCS Messaging not activating since Oreo 8.0 - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Anyone got issues to activate the "Enhanced features" in Android Message. It was working fine in my previous Pixel XL but since I replaced and upgraded Oreo. It just loops without doing anything.
Anyone got that issue ?

I have the same thing happening. Also with Rogers. I called their tech support, but no help. I tried Google support and they didn't have an answer, but suggested sending in feedback via the Support section on the Pixel.
I did do a factory reset, and this problem started after that. My son also has a Pixel, and has also updated to Oreo. He didn't do a factory reset though, just the OTA update, and his RCS is still working.

I called Rogers. They tried to wipe my profile and then I waited for it to be resupplied. It didn't work.... Google are unaware.
Where did you report that bug? In the app itself ?
I wonder if anyone else on Oreo can try to disable it and re enable it to see if it will go back on

I reported it through Google Support. Go to Settings -> Support -> Search Help & Send Feedback -> Send Feedback.
I'll see if I can disable and re-enable it on my son's phone. Hopefully he won't mind being a guinea pig!

Btw. Today, RCS activated itself. I tried to disable and enable it again and it worked. I tested it with my friend and it works fine.
Pretty weird that it's working now. Did you give it another chance ?

Wifi Calling Error

I am just curious if anyone else is having trouble with wifi calling after the update? I can't get mine to connect at all. Sometimes nothing ever happens and sometimes I get an error message ER081.. I googled it and only the Note 4 I believe is reported of having this issue and it was fixed by doing something to the router. I don't think that is the case for me because Ive reset them twice. I reset my phone too. I called TMo and they're clueless. Any ideas??

Just chiming in to say I'm having identical issues. Tried multiple wifi routers (work, friend's place, etc), none work. Unfortunately I don't have any advice beyond what you already mentioned (factory reset).
Questions:
Was your update OTA? I used LG mobile support tool.
Do you think re-downloading/installing the update would be worth trying? My first thought is no. Basically if 99% of functions are working then it seems unlikely there was an error in download/install steps...

So I found out it was my modem from Time Warner Cable. I ran some speed tests on my wifi and it was running extremely slow. I was still getting decent internet speeds on all my devices, but I guess it was slow enough to mess up wifi calling. It turns out they upgraded the firmware around the same time I reflashed 5.0. It was more of a matter of coincidence. Try to have your internet provider factory reset your modem and re-tune the wifi channels.
I have same issue too.
I used LG Mobile support tool too.
my sd card wasn't recognized by g3 at first, so I format the card and now it works.. I just need to fix this wifi calling, and heavy battery usage...
also, when I go check setting, it's pretty much stuck on enabling... and when I mess with VoLTE toggle, sometimes I get error message, 99
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just got off phone with T-Mobile, tech support said, it's known issue, and temp fix is to get OTA via text msg and engineers are working on the backend to fix the issue.

I am having the same problem with the wi-fi calling....if anyone find out the solution please post
I got the problem resolved
I had the similar issue on my LG G3 after Android 5.0 upgrade. This is because of wifi calling upgrade from 1.0 to 2.0 included in this android update.
I called T-Mobile support and they reset the APN settings over the phone. Issue is fixed now. Great!:highfive:
Just call T Mobile support at 611 and you will get your issue resolved. ( Don't play around with your home router! )

Well when I called 611 they tried everything and I still had the issue, they were about to do a device trade in because they couldn't figure it out. Might work for some, not me though.
If any of you want to roll back to kitkat I found a website that showed how to do it and it worked. I am getting alerts to upgrade but will wait til the bugs are fixed
I can't post the link because I haven't made 10 posts yet but if you are interested message me for the link and then maybe you can post if you posted more than 10 times
i called tmobile about this they said LG is aware of it and is working on a fix, when i asked them about hte APN they said nothing they could do on their end....
Just curious, is wifi calling working for anyone after 5.0? I've tried a bunch of APNs no luck. Thanks

Yeah that's what I had to do. I had Time Warner factory reset it. I have the Tmo cellspot router hooked up to the TWC modem and it wasn't working initially either. After they reset it and tuned the signal mine started working with no hiccups.
Try turning wifi off and wifi calling off. Then turn wifi on and wifi calling back on then see if it will work..

I spoke to T Mobile today concerning the WIFI calling not enabling. They stated that they are aware and have been working with LG to get a fix. But there is no time frame for the fix. However, I have a work around that helps me out.
1. Go to settings >> Networks and tap Airplane Mode.
2. Wait for Airplane mode to enable, and, wifi states "Connections not allowed".
3. This is important! Read carefully. otherwise this will not work. While Airplane mode is enabled, enable wifi. Wait! When Airplane Mode goes from being gray to bold then disable Airplane mode.
4. Wait a few seconds and wifi calling will come one.
Mine did stopped working as soon as i upgraded to LP. Went into T-Mobile and got a new sim.

RCS went away?

A few days ago RCS randomly stopped working. I also got an update to Messages later in the evening but it was hours after it stopped working. I have rebooted, uninstalled updates and reinstalled, etc. No dice.
When I first launch Messages after updating to the latest version it has the popup to enable messages clicking enable goes straight to "ready to go" (or similar) and I can tap the link to Chat settings and see the options but after exiting the app and coming back Chat is gone completely and I only have SMS.
This was present before and after Q beta 3. Verizon, Pixel 3 XL.
Anyone else experiencing similar? Any ideas on how to fix?
May need to check with Verizon, since it's activated from a carrier level.
They may have disabled it with they're most recent backend update, not from Google.
Not sure what happened, or is happening, but even T-Mobile states the Pixel no longer supports it.

Did T-mobile ever support RCS? I have never seen the option to enable it on my phone, even though I've been hoping they would support it.

They never have, because the Pixel was not officially sold by them and had not gone through whatever hoops they have for devices to get that feature.
Prior to I/O, I was trying to figure this out but there's such a lack of knowledge that actually calling tech support got me info.
The Verge just released an article about this issue with RCS on Pixels on T-Mobile, due to the release and availability of 3A on T-Mobile.

I contacted VZW on Twitter and provided screenshots showing what happens. If I uninstall updates and install the latest version, the first time the app opens it says it's ready to go and I can tap to see Chat settings toggle them around, etc but it doesn't actually work and the Chat settings disappear from the advanced menu after closing the app.
They told me everything appears correct and I should contact Google. I explained this started without any changes to the Messages app but they just told me to talk to Google again so I gave up on that.
This weekend I rolled back to two releases ago (4.2.069 fairie) and got the same prompts about it being ready. Went to the convo with my fiancee and it was still SMS. BUT, I had Chat settings in Advanced, so it was at least different than before. I rebooted the phone and RCS worked. But if I updated to either of the newer versions, it breaks and I have to uninstall and go back to 4.2.069, reboot again and it works. So I guess I'll wait and see if they release another update and try that, but for now I'll stay on this version.
The more annoying part is that Q beta 3 doesn't allow you to change any notification settings for Messages, so I can't turn the damn vibration off every time I get a text.
Yea it's broken for me too. I got a random pop up that RCS wants to be enabled which it already was so I hit accept. I still can't get it to turn on. reboot, turn off, turn back on reboot and still can't get it to work. Pixel 3 xl on verizon here.

That's exactly what happened to me. It randomly said enable chat features after they were on for months, and quit working after that. If you want it back you can uninstall updates and go back to 4.2.069 and it will work again. Thinking it must be something in the way Messages is talking to Verizon.
This is still broken for me

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing. I tried it, and it worked as well! I am on t-mobile USA too.
For what its worth, I forgot to turn off wifi during the setup, and my OTP pattern would still be blank after I selected it... But I still went to my home screen and opened up messenger and an option came to enable it.
Nice!
I tried and was unsuccessful. I have Straightalk.
Don't forget You need to be on Messages Beta before starting the process.
The steps I followed were from the top comment on the reddit post. The top comment guy simplified the instructions, I recommend following those.
I woke up and it's all over the web now though. I'm sure there might be some more clearer instructions.
I had this working as well for a couple days. This afternoon it seems to have disappeared though. The only thing that I can think of that I did to lose it was change one of the options under chat features. I changed the "resend via sms/mms" option to "ask" or something like that. When I got home from work I noticed that the chat features option shows the "chat features unavailable for this device" screen.
I was going bonkers as to why I could get so close but it end up just not working.... Then to read closer that NO Dual SIM devices are supported right now.
After Google Play updated Messages Beta and Activity launcher, RCS no longer works. Update came in last night 10/31.
Edit:
After uninstalling latest update and reinstalled Messages 5.2.051 (Pegasus_RC05_xxhdpi.phone) (arm64-v8a) (400-480dpi) (Android 5.0+) everything is up and working again. If anyone needs help with the steps I took to fix let me know.

It doesn't support dual Sims if you have 2 installed. It works perfectly if only one SIM is installed. I can't speak if you have 2 installed as I only have one.

Log out of Hangouts first.
I just contacted Google support with this same issue and they helped me resolve this with the following steps:
Turn on Airplane mode.
Open the Settings app.
Tap Apps & notifications. If you don't see all your apps, first tap See all apps or App info.
At the top right, tap More More and then Show system.
Tap Carrier Services.
Tap Force stop and then Ok.
Tap Storage and then Clear data.
Go back to the "App info" screen.
Tap Messages.
Tap Force stop and then Ok.
Tap Storage and then Clear data.
Turn off Airplane mode.
Then, when I opened Messages and checked the settings, it suddenly said "Connected" "Chat features are ready for use"

I doubt you guys have this. But I am from Australia and have a sim carrier that offers RCS. I cannot talk to my american friend with it but I can talk to my family. I did the above tweak and I could talk to my mate but couldn't talk to my family, and a reboot reverted it. So if anyone has that issue that's way, it seems to be two different servers.

Question Google Fi working properly on 11.2.4.4?

I was curious if any google Fi users had the issues of not being able to pick up phone calls resolved from the update 11.2.4.4 considering they claim to have "fixed" the issue. I had to switch providers as it was so bad. Being able to swap back would be ideal. Greatly appreciate the info.
