My LG G3 ready to throw out a window - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have LG G3 that using FreedomPop and the phone is rooted and has TWRP on it but at this moment it failing in many ways.
I hoping to get this running with MetroPCS soon and I was told that the LTE will work that could be deal breaker as the person at Metro said that LTE wont work so any info on that be appreciated.
The other problems is I been using TWRP to make some recent backups and I get errors installing the last 2 backups so how can I get that to work.
Lastly for the last week I cant use Google Playstore or do any d/ls which is very annoying as this was happening before and the one thing I seen that not working right is the FreedomPop messing app which is required as well as the dialer and voicemail. Setting default messaging does not even see the app that needs to be installed and going through all the FreedomPop diagnostic dont help either.
I have reset the phone few times and no help plus everything else works with like network and dialer and voicemail.
How can get fix the must be bad partition the safest way as I now have no backups that work? My contacts will be restored from play store if needed anyways?
Can I revert the phone to stock where I can remove TWRP and my root status to see if I can go back to a virgin phone?
What the newest update for my phone like to get rid of lollipop and get marshmallow?
Let me post for feedback thanks.

I was able to get my phone working using advanced deletion in TWRP but I lost all my voicemail and text plus call logs so now its the 1st of month going to see about switching to MetroPCS and hoping they be able to use this LG G3 for replacement.
One other phone I like for is the https://www.metropcs.com/shop/phones/details/LG-Stylo-3-PLUS/610214652485
Which phone should I use LG G3 or the metro ? Thanks

I just ordered the LG Stylo 3 PLUS it has more pluses than sticking with older LG G3 especially since I want the newest OS and this be going from 5.2 phone to 7 and beyond.
Like having fingerprint scanner as well as getting rid of the Macfee security app I hated to deal with.
Now will have regular calling and more important can use sms apps again.
Wanted stylus for awhile so glad phone seem to make good use of one.
Will update once I receive phone after I have used a bit.
Question tho how does it work without root and I read something about not having bootlocker or some name like that so how does that work? Thanks!

[Q] Help with Verizon SCH-I535 Phone to use on T-mobile

Hey everyone and thanks for taking the time to read this,
So the story goes as so: After doing some research couple months ago about the capability of the Verizon Galaxy S3 to work on T-mobile, i purchased it, and got it to successfully work on T-mobile(texts, calls, wi-fi). The problem is, i just recently upgraded to include a data plan, and i cannot access the internet, despite taking my phone to my cell phone dealer and contacting T-mobile.T-mobile even sent me a guide to do a mastery reset to factory in hopes to solve this problem, only to tell me afterwards that the phone version SCH-I535 is a "verizon locked-software" and i won't be able to set up an APN to work on the T-mobile network. This was all due to the fact that i was not able to set up a APN for T-mobile, and every time i tried to access it through setting, it brought me to a blank black page with the only option of "Reset to Default". After reading other forums and talking with some people, many have suggested i take this issue to XDA to find a solution.
So, here i am.....Does anyone know if it is possible for me to break/root/ or whatever it is called so i can successfully access the t-mobile network on my phone? Preferably an easier guide since i am sort of a newbie at this sort of stuff.
Thanks again for reading.
Before your Contract change, you were able to receive and make calls successfully with T-Mo Sim right ? Even now you can make calls too correct ? The reason I am asking this is to be able to check if you are really unlocked off of VZW. If you are not unlocked, then that would be the first step.
You are right, the APNs do drive Data Connection. If the stock firmware does not allow you to change APNs then you will have to root. Please post a screen of your Settings > About phone that shows your Rom Version, Baseband and Kernel.

Hey Perseus, thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. I bought the phone in the summer off someone who had verizon. I have always had T-mobile, and considering this phone is GSM, i decided to buy it because it would probably work for T-mobile. I had the phone unlocked, and i am currently using it to make calls, texts, and even use wi-fi with no problem. The only problem at this time is that i recently added a data plan which i cannot currently use. Here is a screen shot of what you have requested.
Thanks again
First try
Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Preferred Network Type.See what it is set to. Change it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA if needed. See the other option System Select as well.
Also separately try the following.
Hit ##DATA# in the Dialer. In the subsequent Menu choose EDIT > OTHERS > LTE APN
If all fails, please Root the phone and then try. The way you go about is
1. Flash a Custom Recovery via Odin. Make sure the version of Custom recovery is for your model D2VZW not D2TMO.
2. Flash a SuperSU zip file via Recovery and then hit fix permissions in the recovery.
Try the APN Settings after that. IF you can actually access them, then set them according to this link.
If all the above fails, I'd suggest a custom Rom for d2VZW.
You will never get 4g trust me I had one... you will just get the E

Ok, so i tried to changed it to LTE and i got no service at all, so i switched it back to Global. I also tried the dialer thing several times, and got the " connection problem or invalid MMI code"
So i guess i am going to have to root the phone? Does anyone know a good video tutorial or written tutorial on how to safely do this? Also, what exactly is rooting?

You have to enable the mmi codes to use them. Anyway as stated above your reply you will never get 3g or 4g just edge (seen it personally) which is pretty darn slow.. Not worth it if you ask me and be paying for data.. If you still want to root it and keep trying to add sons check the Verizon forums.. They could probably help you a lot more than on this side of the forums

Guys, he is not getting ANY data signal at all. His problem isn't getting the specific icon but being not able to change APNs.
@HackThisThing, you are better off following up on Verizon Device forum. That forum does have a video tutorial for Rooting. Here's forum link.
I don't think you will be able to change APNs without rooting. I checked with a buddy of mine who has the same device as you.
Here's a good answer to What is Rooting ?
Even if you CAN fix it, why bother if you can only get 2G? I'd sell it or trade it for a phone that's more compatible with T-Mobile 's network instead of paying for data and only getting dial-up speeds. I get that solving problems is fun, but OP do you want to live with only 2G?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
I don't agree with that assessment. Just like the T999L phone, this device will work on LTE Bands just fine. OP just needs to wait for LTE to be rolled out in their area. There's a coverage map and roll out schedule on T-Mo website and the T-Mo News blog.
It's worth a look, but could still leave them with patchy coverage. If it's going to be a while, why wait when it's not hard to just trade the phone? I guess I don't see a reason why hold out on getting a Verizon phone to work when you could just get one that works now with little to no monetary loss. It's just a Verizon S3, not really something worth "waiting" for when they could get the same thing but more functional on their network of choice.
They made an honest mistake and waiting might give them "good enough" service - but other than that they're stuck with dial up speed only and risk bricking a phone they could just trade or sell now.
Maybe I'm just impatient and risk averse.

OP has already purchased this VZW version.

I have the same problem....
How to get any type of data...?

[Q] flashed epic 4G touch to kitkat now freedompop not working...

What I've done to this point:
-got a clean Epic 4G touch off swappa
-activated it on freedompop BYOD after upgrading it per freedompop's instructions
-verified it was working, made a few test calls successfully. Can't remember if I checked messaging or not. At this point I had a working freedompop phone.
-followed the instructions in the stock unrooted to 4.4.2 thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2637510
-PROFIT!! It works beautifully and Kitkat is sooooo smooth on this phone. (for reference my previous phone was a rooted and hacked together Optimus V on a grandfathered Virgin Mobile unlimited 300 plan. It was showing it's age.)
-but wait.... now freedompop isn't working. It's working fine on 3G and I'm getting data ok (and the data seems to be getting deducted from my freedompop account) but messaging won't work and phone calls won't work.
Anybody got any ideas for solutions? I'd love to remain on 4.4.2 , but am I flying too close to the sun to try keeping freedompop working too? If I must I'll downgrade to an earlier rom but figured I might ask first. My goal is to have kitkat running with freedompop and google voice integration too, but I know that is a lofty goal.
Thanks a bunch in advance, the wealth of information around here is overwhelming and I have so much respect for the dev community. :good:

I always thought that anytime you make changes to the radio part of the rom you had to redo your apns or prls or something like that. Also remember reading that with cyanogenmod (which this new rom is based on) one has to go through extra steps to even get dialer codes to work on the (e4gt) phone. Hope someone that knows off the top of their head what those steps are can chime in.

Well thanks for a little guidance, I'll continue trying to read up on it and hopefully someone else will come along with a little more info for me.
here is what your looking for, just ignore the google voice instructions if you don't want that. There is two ways of making your phone to work, csipsimple or the aosp dialer.

Same here but it is not because your rooted it could just be the area you are in.

Apparently Big Red knows when you're rooted.

Talking to Verizon support today trying to figure out why Advanced Calling wasn't working, and they straight up said that it appeared that I was rooted. I feigned ignorance, but I thought it was very odd that they knew this.
Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
The My Verizon Mobile is the one that tells them. If you deny it root when it asks, it knows you have root. If you didn't have root I think there would be no reply to it's asking for root.
Ah, is that why my advanced calling isn't working? Annoying.
I need to call them for my Advanced Calling as well (as it's complete horse s**t that I need to enable that so my phone doesn't drop from 4G to 1X) but I've never been prompted by My Verizon about root access...
There's a system property you can find with "getprop" called "vzw.os.rooted". I tried changing it in build.prop, but it didn't work. There's also a partition called persistent with a file /persistent/rct.cfg detailing some not allowed system behavior. There are things that detect root since it's pretty noticable and readable to everything at /system/xbin/su. An app that communicates to the internet could easily transmit that information. This is one of the many reasons I have a firewall (AFWall+). I installed it pretty soon after I got root, but one of the many vzw bloatware apps probably got the info out. Guess what, I don't give a s***.
FWIW, I had a lot of difficulty trying to activate Advanced Calling on software 610B. I worked with Tech Support for a week, no luck.
I finally updated to 611A as a last resort, and it suddenly worked. So if you're having trouble getting AC enabled, and you're on 610B, you may need to update your software version.

Isn't 11A the upgraded version of 11B? I know it sounds backwards, but we had to KDZ that to root phone.
Before I rooted my advanced calling worked. After root when I make calls it drops to 1x. Don't really care as I don't browse the internet on my phone while on a call (99% of the time).
Still, it's pretty dumb of Verizon. Then again they do more than their fair share of dumb corporate related ****.
Mine works and I'm rooted with no firewall or protection to block them knowing.

AFAIK, there is no 11B.
Just 610B (original, what shipped on my G4), and 611A (OTA update, which I needed to use in order to properly activate AC).
I am not rooted.
Advanced Calling also works fine for me on rooted 11A. However, I recently disabled it because ACR will not record calls with it turned on.

This is the same problem I'm having. I had to KDZ to 11A when I rooted, and I haven't been able to get it to work since.

For those of us who haven't fully been following the root discussions, what does that mean, that you KDZ'd to 11A? You had 610B, you used KDZ to put on a 611A image (not taking the OTA to 611A, so you kept the 610B bootloader), then rooted that?
Did AC work before root, presumably on 610B?
After what I went through to finally get AC working, I would really hate for root to break that

AC worked perfectly for me on 10B, and after I rooted (KDZing to 11A) it will no longer activate. I tried toubleshooting with VZW, and none of the things they did on their end fixed it. The only suggestion they had was factory resetting, but I haven't tried that yet.
I'm sorry to hear that.
There seems to be some mysterious magic to Verizon's Advanced Calling. In the span of a week, after a bunch of work on their end, Verizon was unable to fix mine, they resorted to telling me to exchange the phone. I had already done a factory reset, at their suggestion, which did not change anything. Then after the OTA to 611A, it suddenly worked, and it seemed this was a surprise to them, as well as to me.
Having issues with AC after rooting would seem worse, they could potentially blame any issues on root.
Why problems with AC can't be figured out, and then fixed, is kind of disconcerting. I guess maybe there's a reason the phone calls it Advanced Calling 1.0.
AC was working for me also and then it stopped. I was already on 11a before rooting. If you have the verizon app called name and id on your phone ac will not work. Once I froze that app in tibu it went back to working. I'm not for certain but I don't think that app was on my phone before root so it may have been included in the rooted img file.

Yeah that's the one. Once I froze it ac started working again. There is a thread on Verizon's website that says that app is not compatible with ac also.

What else do you have frozen? I have that frozen too, and it's still the same.
I'm not rooted (maybe that's the difference), but I noticed today that I have Caller Name ID on my phone. And last time I tried it, AC was working. Just FWIW.

LG G3 D851 T-Mobile Marshmallow update ruined my phone!!

3rd worst mistake of my life... (don't ask)
LG G3 D851 was working just fine until I "upgraded" to 6.0 Marshmallow.
After Android 6.0 update OTA via T-Mobile, phone calls were terminating quickly and then got to the point where they didn't work at all. I used Google Voice almost exclusively, but problems were occurring for T-Mobile direct calls, too.
The phone call issue seemed to grow, and the update then ruined my battery from boot looping.
At my wits end, I did a hard reset (btw, is there any way to save app preferences and restore them) and it seemed to work ok on AC power ONLY. If I unplugged it, it went right back into boot loop, even though my battery was showing 100%. I know it was my battery, because I tried a friend's battery and it worked ok.
So I slowly installed more apps, and finally got a new battery, so I could use it without being plugged into AC. Things seemed ok for a couple days, then today the same phone call problems and freezing were back again!
Occurred after updating eBay app, but have no idea if that was the culprit, because I have all apps set to update automatically on WiFi (probably not a smart idea).
Did the Google Voice trick (remove app from phone, then go to PC and remove real number from GV list on PC, then go back to phone, reinstall GV app and have GV find my real T-Mobile number automatically and add the number from the handset), but 'unable to complete phone call problem' is back on GV or the T-Mobile network.
Super frustrated and angry. Nice effing "update!" Everything is stock, not even rooted...
Any known app conflicts on D851 running Marshmallow?? Ideas?
I'm thinking another hard reset, but would love to save all my app preferences to restore them (doesn't seem to work on LG PC Suite, which is what I used for backup last time).
TIA.

Can you point out any link for the downgrade tutorial please?
@healthylaff, probably don't want to hear this but...
If you were previously rooted, the #1 rule is, was, and always will be Never Accept OTAs! For any number of reasons, some of which you've experienced.
You can go back to LP or start off again with MM since it looks like you'll be starting from scratch.
Main irk I have with MM is the change in storage paths. That breaks or hampers a few things. Enough that I can't/won't use MM as my primary environment. Still continue to test/run them though. Anyway...
The 30D stock ROM has been available for some time now. Installable via different methods. Check it out.
