How to improve my OnePlus 3 ? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

I got my oneplus 3 longer then a year. Rooted, custom roms. Almost really happy with the phone
But there are a few problems that is not fixed yet after using the phone longer then a year. Maybe it is just me but I would appreciete your comment / Review.
1. Microphone.
After using the phone longer then a year. I'm not happy about it. When I call someone via skype, whatsapp, the microphone is not loud from a longer range. Short range is fine but it would be weird if short range was bad to.
Example: You sit on your desk. You call video whatsapp put the phone between something so the other one can see you but he doesnt hear you good. Because the microphone range is bad. I also saw a video Oneplus3vs5 video recording and the microphone is much better at oneplus 5.
Is there are way to fix this issue? Or is this normal.
2. Camera
from alot of reading what I did understand is that the google camera is better at night and the other OP3 camera daylight (not saying that it is just as a example)
The camera is good but it can be improved or is it just me?
What rom and camera app are you using?
3. Battery.
Battery is fine for me from just streaming movies, social media playing clash of clans, royale. daily I can get 5-6 Screen on time.
For more heavy useage switching to 3G etc, 4Hours daily.
4. Speaker.
Speaker is loud enough for me but when I play a song or watch a video and the sound is low I do hear a strange blazer voice out of my speaker.
I don't know but is this a hardware or rom issue. Maybe you guys can explain.

1. Microphone: Have a look at post stating details of configuration files to be edited to increase speaker volume, you can find settings to adjust mic gain there. Have done that long back but forgot name of file
2. Camera: It can't be improved as hardware is fixed and google API is ROM based, so what one can do is use a higher ROM like 7.1.1 with mature camera API and an application which makes use of higher APIs like OpenCamera on Resurrection ROM 5.8.4. Certain improvement is application dependent, if app does not allow exposure adjustment - am sure in some cases one will not get good results. OpenCamera is powerful and had seen best results with it.
3. Battery: Use greenify to hibernate background applications, like i don't like email application to keep continuously running and consume battery. Calibrate battery, if required (especially when its performance is degraded), Use application like macrodroid to create scheduled tasks like we can schedule GPS/WiFi off while not in Car. Had achieved 20 hrs battery life with 100+ apps using all of these.
4. Speaker: Forget every MOD and just use VIPER4ARISE with plenty of IRS profiles. I recommend downloading and applying "Prowhiz Profile" with "Dolby Atmos IRS"

Thanks for your reaction. I will search on google how I could increase the microphone stuff it would be nice if you could give me a hint which file it was haha.
About 3. I use Greenify already.
And 4. I use VIPER4ARISE already
and still got that problem what I was talking about.

Hehe, for camera Google HDR+ does a great job. It catches so much more detail both in Lowlight and in a normal day. Do some comparing and you will see.

SpeedBooster

Have anyone tried this app on Blackstone?
Some reports from other forums indicate much better performance after using this app.
SpeedBooster
Maybe we can find out what settings, if any, improves the performance.
I'm going to install now...
-----------------------------------
This my default benchmark before any altering.
onkolog Lite Rom
SanDisk 8Gb Class4
Tried to alter some settings, but so far only getting lower score on benchmark. Will continue to try though....
No video results.
When I tried to do the same as in the demovideo, I got lower benchmark ??
Count me in!
got the same results as the above (test done immediately after a soft reset).
played around with settings and benchmarked again. no matter what i did the results were worse than the original ones.
tried to restore the default ones with no success and had to restore from backup in order to have the best results i obtain with my original settings.
the only good thing:
-benchmark
addons:
-strip battery (very similar with the one found in the forum).
-"real close" button is overlaping the existing one.
-hack battery (make the battery last longer), not tested.
my conclusion: to uninstall it....fast..
Same Experience here.
I managed to get just slightly better benchmark.
The other tools I already had.
No point installing this.
I'm getting rid of it also.
Hi
Hello,
I'm lucky because when I install is
soft and then he did not want to get started, so then I tried not to know
why and how.
In any case thank you for the info I do not regret not working with me ...

sony xperia benchmark with SB 2.0.020.
cab here.
Guys, I think you're not using it correctly.
The benchmark measures the Hardware performance, but according to their website, you can't get more power out of nothing, the tool is to give more power to the apps you need, and take it from those you're not using that much.
Ex: when using GPS you don't care about other apps, you want the GPS to load faster.
Read more here.
For me it proves to be a useful tool, I'll test it more the next days.
Did it help?

Yepp, he (or she)'s right! And it does make a difference!
To find out for yourself, download the app and run it (it will run in demo mode, which is sufficient to see the difference in the following test). Open the processes screen, find the gwes.exe process and tap the minus button on the left until it has the lowest possible priority. Hit ok and open the windows 6.5 start menu: You will notice how scrolling through the menu is now REALLY slow and laggy! Go back into Speedbooster, enter the processes screen and now give gwes.exe the highest possible priority. Tap ok and again open the start menu: Now everything is really smooth!
So it can make a big difference! The big question is though: Which processes should have a high, which ones a low priority? Although that is simple to answer if you want to increase performance in CorePlayer or some other specific app, it's not easy to answer if you want to increase your overall performance...
EDIT: I'm going to benchmark Coreplayer with Speedbooster active and inactive to find out, how big the difference is... I'll post the results here later!
Here are the results:
I used this file (Matrix trailer): http://shintak.info/ppc/download/betaplayer/sample/RL_XQ_640x480_1500_128.avi
Results with Speedbooster inactive: 89,84 %
Results with Speedbooster active: 92,23 %
So there was a slight increase... but it's not much!
of course it does its job. its not an overclock application, but since windows mobile does not include a priority adjust application, this is so useful. for example, adjust manila.exe to high priority and open some background job. manila freezes without this app, but its so smooth with it (of course, while the background job done slower). but this is useful for web browsing and navigation applications, since they really suck sometimes (they get slow much even if u get a simple sms).
ps: i dont know how it affects battery but, it made my blackstone just like iphone with a proper config.

[SHARE] Battery Saving Techniques!

NOTE: Im turning this into a sharing thread where everybody can post and share their techniques on how they save battery consumption. I'll quote all the useful suggestions here in the first post
I would like to start off by saying that all ROMs basically consume badly just like the stock version. There could be little to no differences between them with regards to battery performance. Right now I would like to share my observation, on what I presume to be one of the best ways to save battery while maintaining good performance.
glennlevi's Technique:
1. Get Antutu Battery Saver Pro (Free version can be found in the market). Install and untick the option control cpu speed.
2. Using No Frills CPU, or any other built-in cpu settings app, select your default governor (bcm####) and sio as your I/O scheduler. Maximum Frequency should be your highest available, and Minimum Frequency your lowest available.
3. Manually adjust screen brightness in settings to about 20%.
4. Untick Background Data and Auto Sync in settings, under Accounts and Sync Settings.
5. Get Ram Booster (Free in market) and install. Open. Under settings, set Boost Level to aggresive, set whitelist apps and tick your launcher, sms app, keyboard, and Ram Booster and Antutu Battery Saver. Untick Show Overlay Widget in Overlay Widget Settings. Enable the widget in the notification bar, refresh every 5s, Report Style Dont Show. Under Advanced Settings, set Feedback to None. Clean Ram using this app everytime just before you turn off your screen or want to stop using your phone.
6. Drag down your notification bar and tap the Ram Booster Notification. Now wait a couple of mins while browsing through your phone (without opening any apps)
*You can use other task killers if you want, but Ram Booster is the best IMO. A better replacement however is 360 launcher's cleaner widget (which will save more memory, ram and battery usage since its all in one app)
7. Open settings and go to Applications>Running Processes and look at all running apps, you will see some auto-start apps like Beats Audio, DSP Manager, Google Mail, Google Maps, Google Playstore and others. Uninstall all user apps that have autostarted. Download Titanium Backup and use it to uninstall stock bloatware, like google maps and google mail, or other custom bloatware like Beats Audio (If you dont use them at all). Clean Dalvik Cache using Titanium Backup and Clean Cache using Ram Booster. Freeze seldom used apps like Google Playstore. Just unfreeze when you want to use them.
*You can use other apps like Root Uninstaller to remove system apps, but IMO Titanium Backup is the easiest to use and has one of the most functions.

The best way to save battery is really to know your fone.
1. any type of widget should be avoided( except maybe clock) as they are juice hoggers.
2. ANY app that suggest or implies that they save battery defeats their own purpose for they themselves consume battery life...figures.
3. ANY app that has "killer" attached to it isn't really helpful because most of the app be it user or system just restarts after. Same goes for anything with "booster"..
4. Ram cleaner should suffice
5. keep most settings to a minimum.
6. Accept the fact that our little fone has one crappy battery construction..

i do. well, not full kernel, just kernel module. search bacem-tweak in dev section. but i find that the best thing you can do to save battery is keep your phone sleep as long as possible. that's means remove bloatware, limit installed app with service, and only turn data/wifi when needed. combine with undervoltage, usually i got 3-4 days in single charge. in some very rare condition i got 6-7 days.

Well, most custom roms are rooted anyways. Im just saying this cuz you might be running on stock rom

is this information have been confirmed? as far as I know fewer widget is low ram consuming and more battery friendly. notification will prevent your device sleep. notification for every 5 second?it will make your battery life decreased, a lot. on other hand, clean ram have been proved consume huge battery power.

First off I would like to quote myself -
"Right now I would like to share my observation, on what I presume to be one of the best ways to save battery while maintaining good performance."
As such, Im sharing this because
1. I think it might help other people.
2. I've tried it and compared it many times in many different rom, and what I recommend is based from my own experience
3. I know youre a dev. Im not, obviously. That doesnt mean I cant share what I think is useful. This is also backed up by the fact that Im not claiming Im sure that these actually work and that I can back it up with additional information. Again, this is just based on my experience.
again I would like to repeat the quotation from myself:
"Right now I would like to share my observation, on what I presume to be one of the best ways to save battery while maintaining good performance."
There you go. I hope that clears it all up. So please dont pick on me or anything just because Im not a dev. Thank you.

Well, thanks anyways for noticing my thread. Now I know some of my suggestions may be far from the theoretical facts that you know, but there are times when actually testing something and comparing it with others yield better results than just looking up the figures. Thats just my take on it though, so Im not saying thats all there is to it.
Anyway, maybe I'll edit this thread and make it a SHARING THREAD instead. I'll just regularly view it and put all suggestions that other members have in the first post

Sir i want to ask you onething, offtopic, in nexus there is no memorycard slot, so we have to keep all data including gallery files and even a new rom in phone memory. If we want to flash a new rom, then how can we do that? While we wipe the data and cache before flashing all data will be deleted? The rom file too?.

Looking to make my HTC 10 better for gaming... Some recommendations needed

I'm looking for a recommendation on a rom + kernel combination that could make gaming smoother, would be my number 1 priority. Preferably with minimal bloat (for me, viper rom has too many things I just don't want and I don't like it being there, it's a psychological thing). I don't mind sacrificing battery life if it means smoother gaming, but I of course wouldn't want my device to needlessly run at 100% when it's not really needed.
I'm also looking for 3 specific features:
1. I'm looking for an app maybe that automatically stops my screen from going to sleep when there's a game in focus.
2. Something which disables auto-brightness when a game is in focus.
3. Something to make sure a game won't close? Like, mark it as important and leave it in background. Even so I won't accidentally close it when I "clear all" in task manager.
There has to be an app that can handle those things automatically I hope
Anything else you might suggest would be nice to hear!

Too many things. lol
Whatever ROM you decide to settle on, @ivicask's PnP & Thermals tweak will help with your gaming. Flash the mod in recovery, and select the performance profile in Aroma.
You can download it from the thread in this link.

Maybe try Tasker app, and Btw Viper rom is actualy most debloated rom, and aroma installer allows you to pretty much remove anything you want.
EDIT:And also, gaming is just fine on this phone since Android 7 update, your overthinking it, all games run perfectly fine at 60fps AFIKl

Detailed info I found on Google for the app:
What is the lib patcher?
Libpatcher - is a custom setting where you can set all the settings to your liking
Radius Temporal changes the graininess of the image by affecting noise, the higher the image is more blurry and less noise, the lower the more noisy, but more detail
Tone Curve is where you can adjust dark points, white points, shadows, highlights. It is recommended to enable and leave the default values or tweak them (advanced users)
Sharpness allows you to control the sharpness of the image. Zoom in for low-light shots, and zoom out for selfies.
Luminance Noise Reduction is what controls the “graininess” in images caused by high ISO. Decrease it to get more detail at the expense of high noise, or increase it if the noise is unacceptable to you
Color Noise Reduction: Controls color spots. There is usually no need to adjust it as this will not improve the quality, but you can increase it slightly if you see colored spots in the dark. Too much chroma noise can cause a decrease in saturation. Also known as color noise. Be careful with this setting it can mess with the fine details of an image.
Contrast settings allow you to control the contrast of the image. Increase it if you want darker shadows, and decrease it to make it brighter is the general idea. This is again a personal preference
Saturation is what allows you to control the saturation of the image. Increase it if you want more saturated colors in your photos. Obviously decrease if your HDR is getting too saturated. This is again a personal preference
Now there are some advanced settings. These affect the morphological processing. Naturally thats a very basic overview. I took the course while finishing up my engineering degree. It was difficult stuff past the basic level. I wont get into what these settings do beyond a decent generalization.
Warning to all these settings can absolutely have a drastic negative effect on your images. A lot of testing would be necessary by the end user
Luminance noise reduction levels
Level 1 (Detail) changes the photo very slightly, slightly smoothing out small elements in the image.
Level 2 (Rough Surfaces) seriously alters the image by smoothing grain
Level 3 (Edges) doesn’t change much. Smooths edges slightly
Level 4 (Smooth Surfaces) radically alters the image by making it posterized by smoothing out large areas of the same color. Avoid magnification over 1.0
Color noise reduction levels
Level 1 (Detail) fine textures, but the same applies to rough details
Level 2 (Rough surfaces) fine textures, but the same applies to rough details
Level 3 (Edges) Edges are mainly defined by the contrast between one object and another
Level 4 (Smooth Surfaces) Smooth surfaces are generally uniform areas of the image. Like wallpaper with few small details
Tips:
If you notice a certain color of spots on your low light photos. Check its frequency spectrum. Look where its at in the photo and go to the specific wavelet reduction setting and tweak it. See if you can remove it. More often than not these settings are used to improve astrophotography, low light and high detail images.
My sensor has more higher frequency color noise than others. Ive seen some XDA users where they had to turn down denoise. It really all depends on a lot of stuff. Its fun to tweak and squeeze out what you can.
YMMV
I can do most, if not all, of this stuff in GIMP/Photoshop, more easily, with finer control (to include undo), and on a much larger screen
All most of us really want (I can't be the only one) in a "great" camera app is total control of:
1. Shutter speed
2. "ISO"
3. Aperture
4. Lens selection
just like my Galaxy S8's "pro mode"
Everything else can be "fixed" in post.
-But then I'm just an old guy with camera and a darkroom

Yeah I totally get that, photo editing software is better on a computer and is more fine tuned.
This is an easy way to get more customized results. I've seen way too many complaints about the built in app being too restricted and plain.
This adds additional functionality and is my go to application when taking photos for years now.

Credits to the developers of the modified GCam project. Please donate to them if possible to keep the development going.
After using it daily on my Pixel 2 XL it is now confirmed working on the Pixel 6.
There are alot of custom options to take that perfect shot available for this modified version, as time passes there will be more releases on the main page on the same site.
Enjoy!

My Settings
Now I have done A LOT of testing on my phone, with my case (affects light angles coming in slightly) and just about everything I can to nail these in for my device and my tastes so please dont just copy and paste. This is more of an informative post.

Force System Noise Model (I tweaked the tweaked one but I cant post that code (license issues)) ON
Disable Dehave ON
Sharpness: 1.13
Saturation: 1.21
Global Chroma Denoise: Set to wavelet
Global Luma Denoise: Set to wavelet
Wavelet Luma Denoise Settings:
Level 1 - 0.875
Level 2 - 0.875
Level 3 - 1.0
Level 4 - 1.125
Wavelet Chroma Low Frequency Denoise Settings: (556 THz - 792 THz) 89

FAQ
Why are your colors listed as frequencies?
Light is an electromagnetic phenomenon and as an RF engineer its easier for me to refer to spectra as a frequency but one could easily refer to it in wavelengths or color (but color wont be accurate as thats up to perception)
What are wavelets?
A wavelet is how we define a center frequency and some deviation. We use wavelets because a color is not just one frequency its a range see here : Spectral color - Wikipedia 10 Its also an entire subset of mathematics used by anyone who works with the spectrum (i.e RF engineers, optical engineers (fiber stuff), biomedical engineers). They are helpful because we can take the average of a color spectrum (say blues) and convolve it with the signal to find the center frequency of blue or the blues in a subset (image). It basically the magic behind the IM processing math.
Just tried a sample of my night time “light bleed” mode and its okay. It still need more tweaking but heres an example of what tweaking your denoise settings can do. The image is far better than a stand night photograph (even with some longer exposure)
Keep in mind you wont remove all the noise. In fact it sometimes takes noise to remove or smooth noise (dithering). Dithering is a process where we add a bit of noise to a data set in an attempt to constructively perturb the signals we want to convolve, isolate and amplify over the average.

You can try it if you'd like or keep using the built in one. I've been using this version on my Pixel 6.
There are also other builds on the same site.
Honestly I don't even use the stock one that came with the phone. Not too many options or settings to adjust vs this Mod.
These guys have been doing this for years I've personally used it on my Pixel 2 XL since I can remember.
I'm very confident they have the knowledge and experience to release this Mod to the public.

What do you mean? I didn't say anything about the guy who builds it or him not having knowledge lol, I know him. You just replied with something totally different to what was questioned dude, doesn't make sense. Many of the options and values you gave are not in this cam as you can see below thus why I'm asking have you posted the correct version. Also I'm no noob as you might be suggesting lol I've plenty of experience with GCam on many many devices creating configs for personal use and for public.

Thank you @novaq72
I tried out the last stable version and my P6 was not saving the pictures. I have been running without problems on 8.4.300 v1 beta3.
If anyone has any issue from the OP definitely try out the one above.
It's a pity, I don't have a problem with not saving pictures (P6P). But I use a gallery other than Google Photos, so maybe that's why. The stable version by MWP has a lot more settings options than the beta version, I think. But I use the MWP app mainly because of the names of the photos, which the built-in version has, politely speaking, 'awkward'.

It depends what you like. Every gcam versions with stock settings is little different but it is better use xml if somebody has created xml.

General Post your configuration and experience of Stock/Custom roms that you daily drive here.

Purpose
I have been jumping from one UI to gsi's to back to one UI. I just want to know what are yall experiences with different roms and maybe stock one UI and what mods/workarounds or apps do you use to solve problems. Any custom kernel etc. I'll start with mine here
My Current Configuration:
(i edit this op when i switch a gsi or attempt further mods)
OS: YAAP GSI
Device: SM-A325F
Firmware version: A325FXXS4DWD4
Rooted with KernelSU.
Using OrangeFox from here.
Mods:
1. Custom kernel:
I made my own permissive custom kernel from A325FXXS3CWB3 Samsung's source from here.
It has a lot of changes which include removing entire security and knox debloat as it is not used in GSI.
It also has changed default ram compressor to lz4 instead of lzo-rle which should be faster.
I have tested this kernel on A325FXXU3DWB8, A325FXXU2CWA6, A325FXXU2CVK3.
It also boots on one UI.
It was possible all thanks to @KrutosVIP and his amazing work here.
You can download it from here.
Just flash it in twrp with no additional steps required. Make sure to backup boot in case it doesn't boot.
NOTE: i switched to my kernelsu kernel which is available here on a32 threads. it still offers the same features but it has kernelsu
2. Penguin Gcam and FreeDcam:
I currently use Penguin Gcam from here.
It includes needed features. The only thing broken is slow motion.
I use FreeDcam Inorder to get access to all the other cameras including Ultra wide, depth sensor and macro camera. It works great. The only problem as of my writing on this thread is that changing the ISO manually crashes the app.
Fortunately @uluruman has created the files and presets for this app which work amazingly. You can check it out from here.
You can check out FreeDcam on the F-Droid store from here or on github from here.
3. Workarounds in Phh settings
Samsung Features:
1. Enable extended brightness range (fixes brightness issues)
2. Double tap to wake (optional. But you can use it if you like)
3. Enable access to all cameras (Important for FreeDcam)
4. Enable extra sensors
Misc Features:
1. Use alternate way to detect headsets [fixes headphone jack] (Optional in roms built after or during march patch since they already include my overlay.)
2. Force FPS (set to your desired refresh rate) [i use 90] (NOTE: some gsi's have issue with this on android 13 firmware. There is no fix to this. Upgrade to march patch because project elixir seems to have this fixed on march spl. Or try switching to another gsi or downgrade firmware)
3. Force alternative backlight scale, Allow setting brightness to the lowest (needed to fix brightness bar)
4. Force Enable Camera2API HAL3 (To make FreeDcam work)
5. Force Disable AD2P offload (Fixes bluetooth audio for android versions 12 and below.)
6. On newer gsis Bluetooth is broken. To fix Enable Use systemwide bt hal.
Reboot after changing settings is recommended.
4. Magisk Modules
1. Audio Modification Library, Dolby Atmos from Moto G Pro (NOTE: Moto core is required for this.) [Just a dolby atmos port i like]
2. Fullscreen/Immersive Gestures (Q-T) (Removes keyboard space bar at bottom)
3. mindetach, Youtube Revanced Extended (Youtube revanced extended and to detach it from playstore which prevents updating.)
4. Safetynetfix MOD, Shamiko (Dealing with safetynet issues and bypassing root checks in applications)
5. LSPosed - Zygisk (Mostly to get broken face unlock back since broken face unlock on gsi's due to unknown issue with android 13 vendor.)
5. Xposed Modules
The only Xposed module i use is universalauth. Using this module i can get face unlock back on every gsi due to a unknown issue with android 13 firmware or vendor. It works reliably.
Note: It broke in android QPR1 so dev posted a custom xposed link here.
Its broken on QPR2 again. The current workaround is to disable auto dismiss lock screen in face unlock app.
If it happens on QPR updates just remember the workaround.
Since It is unable to download the apks for libraries. You need to download Moto face unlock from here.
Then import it.
To allow restricted settings go to app info of face unlock app. press three dots on top right and allow accessibility. Entered pin if prompted.
Enjoy face unlock.
Over all Experience:
I am happy with using it. Its super smooth. Bugs are of course expected in generic system images. But they are good enough to use daily. Gaming performance in some cases is amazing. Enabling allow higher fps in games in some roms like crdroid unlocks many settings. e.g. i could play cod at 90Fps at medium. The fps hovered around 60-90 fps. It was amazing. If you set the performance mode to performance in game space in roms that have it, It works amazingly. A game restart is required and it works. Actually bumps the fps by a lot. I still do switch from gsi's to gsi's since sometimes i get bored or the gsi lacks some important things. For now In my opinion using a GSI is far better than stock firmware for me. The gsi's i would recommend are crDroid, Elixir, Pixel Experience, EvolutionX, LineageOS (TD based)
you can find more GSI's from here.
Hoping to hear about what you use on your device and how your experience is.
For One UI users. i have a thread on floating tweaks which enable many features and small tweaks to help phone run a lil bit faster check it out from here
Another camera app which can use all the cameras is Open Camera. It is more convenient than FreeDCam, has almost all the same features and even more, for example HDR and panoramas, but unfortunately, like FreeDCam, cannot shoot video from extra cameras out of the box. I tried to edit the settings file manually but it didn't help as it did with FreeDCam, I suppose there should be something else fixed in the app itself, but still I'm going to try again editing the settings in the future.

I used it before. i actually got the cameras to work once. i dont know how. I ditched freedcam for it. But idk maybe after i switched roms or an update they broke again? i think if you look in info it says Only 2 cameras present. Our limited camera2api only shows 2 cameras. While freedcam forces to use the camera no matter what.
I may be wrong i saw something abt this somewhere.
Maybe downgrading to an older apk might help. But i sadly dont have enough time for that
I also recommend using No-frills CPU Control CLASSIC to lower the min CPU frequency to 500 MHz and set govenor to "shedutil" (if it's not already). Also set Android System battery usage to "Restricted" (Settings > Battery > Battery Usage > Android System). That should reduce the battery consumption in the doze mode.

i have noticed big cores are alr at schedutil. although some roms report efficiency cores using "null" like no governer at all. But kernel manager says they use schedutil. I mostly set my governer to ondemand.

So i just installed crdroid 9.2 looks like gms was going crazy in the bg eating my cpu. The fix i found is to run this command.
su -c pm disable com.google.android.gms/.chimera.GmsIntentOperationService
this seems to fix it and i dont see anything broken. I searched it and looks like this issue does happen for alot of users.
