Hello all-
Hopefully someone has a solution for me. I'm sitting in the middle of a hurricane and recently received several Emergency Alerts due to tornadoes in my area. Well and good when I'm actually awake and can see them. I have automatic DND rules in place with "Priority only allows". As a result I slept soundly through a couple of Tornado warnings last night.
I know the easy solution would be to simply turn of DND during an emergency situation. But is there a way to flag these alerts as Priority? I know where to go on Settings to enable/disable the alerts but I don't see an option to override Priority (I'm running Oreo).
Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Hi everyone,
I've searched the web and cannot find an answer to this, so looking for help...
My X10 had a sound option, vibrate option and silence option. This worked for me because I set all my email to vibrate when the phone was on vibrate only, and at night I'd easily switch it silent so there would be no noise, period.
The Ion vibrate options are "always, only when silent, and never". I don't want the email to vibrate always, and if I silence the phone, it vibrates which causes the phone to go off at night when I get emails internationally. I don't want to set it to "never" because there are times when I'm in a meeting I just want to be alerted to an email without a notification sound.
Am I missing something here? Sorry about the basic question, but I cannot for the life of me figure this out!

Ah, found out it's a thing from 2.2 on. I downloaded some apps that work around the issue. Thanks!
Hi all,
I've been looking around for a couple days but haven't really found many threads at all regarding this question. I've had my GN2 for about five days, I'm used to having a rooted android phone but so far I'm not noticing too many things that are lacking without root so I will hold off for a bit.
I've been unsuccessful in finding anywhere to modify or add a notification toggle for the "Blocking Mode." I want to leave it turned on so that I don't get any notifications between normal sleep hours but I don't want to see the notification or have to turn it off every morning. Any suggestions?
Thank you
MOD EDIT I edited the title. Some of the words were not needed to convey your meaning @gregbradley
This has been up around before, i have searched and not found an answer.
Someone had the bright idea that "Do Not Disturb" puts the Alarm out of business. A Genius idea, since 95% of the world use "Do not disturb" when they sleep.
I am a very light sleeper. I am currently faced with the most annoying problem ever, and due to waking up 15times a night, i am getting beyond adjudicated due to lack of a good nights sleep. You guessed it, i wake up from the vibration!
The LG G3. Turn it all the way, and you get Virbate, Alarm still works.
Do not disturb, no vibrate, ahh nice, but now no Alarm.
I came from a G2, where i could pick Vibrate of full silent with only Alarm working. THIS IS THE F'ing feature thats missing, and i am fully aware that this is a know issue for most G3 users.
Who the heck came up with this stupid idea, and how can get to a point where my phone is dead silent but the ONLY sound that MUST work is from the Alarm?!
Is there a work around, is there an app i can use, anything, please help me get some SLEEP!
I agree that the only days I missed school is because of this Do not disturb feature I use when I'm busy and.... I miss my alarm!
But missing work is just not an option for me.
This is a situation of doomed if you and doomed if dont, and i dont want to be put in that position by my freaking phone!

If i could, i would. But you cant. when the phone is on vinrate only.
I found a way to work around this now, but its beyond stupid.
Honestly, its like a woman did this. No logic and damn complicated.

Settings --> Sound --> Notifications --> Do Not Disturb --> Schedule -- Set the times and days you do not want to be interrupted, set the end time to be a few minutes before your alarm is due to go off, remember you need to start it from the night before, so if you work Monday to Friday you need to choose Sunday to Thursday, assuming that you go to sleep before midnight that is.
You can now leave your phone on normal volume, do not need to to mute or set to vibrate only.
Use priority mode, I had the same issue as you until I figured out how to use priority mode and keep it completely silent.
sound - notifications - do not disturb - make sure calendar events are ticked...
after wards go to home screen, set to DND and press volume down once you will get "
Do not disturn
1. on Priority Off
Select priority and presto! eveything else but calendar events (alarms) will be silent.
I have 2 problems that might be related. I am unsure.
1. I am not getting emergency notifications. I see the alert listed when I tap Emergency, but no notification. Extreme, Servere and Amber are all checked. It is also supposed to repeat every 15 minutes & play notification sound and vibrate. Nothing
I am told the alert is supposed to override DND, but this did not.
2. My DND is not turning off according to schedule. The settings are:
DND turned on until turned off & set to priority
Auto decline checked
Play Alarms checked
Events and reminders off
Calls on
Message on
Calls or messages from Approved contacts only
I have set up a list of approved contacts
Schedule for Priority (previously I had it set up for mon-sat begin at 9:00pm until 5:00am next day. HTC tech support suggested I set up a new schedule so I created a new one for just today starting at 8:00 until 6:00am tomorrow)
Previously I tried having my bank (which is on the approved contacts list) sent a text. No notification sound. I tried calling from a non-approved phone number and it went straight to vm. After setting up the new schedule, I tried another text from my bank. No notification. When I turned off DND I get the notification.
HTC chat tech support was less then helpful. As I was setting up the new schedule he asked quickly 2 times if I was there then disconnected. LOL
I could set it up on tasker but I like the fact if someone calls within a few minutes it will ring through.
Thanks everyone
Try auto decline off and events/reminders on.. I think the auto decline might be a decline all regardless. The notifications might be events..
Sent from a stolen HTC M9
On Android N I have noticed the following behavior with notifications on the new N doze, and wanted to share my findings in case others experience issues with the lack of notifications that were not present on 6.0.1 and I had not make zero adjustments for notifications as well or optimization as its called for each app.
At 1:07 AM i received at text and email alert from my bank for a deposit ( I was asleep when this happened ). I woke up at 5:15 AM to find no notification light blinking what so ever for text or email. Picked up the phone and low and behold a G-mail message and a text ( Textra ) was sitting in the notification bar. I set the phone back down and did not and have not touched it as writing.
At 6:11 AM I received an email to my G-mail account, I went and looked at (did not touch) my phone and no notification light, nor did I hear it alert; this is only about an hour or less after setting it down.
I used my G-mail account to send a text message to my device and heard the alert and the notification light was blinking(did not touch).
So far I notice that G-mail will not alert( sound or LED ) after about an hour ( could be less ). I just sent another email to my G-mail @ 6:29 am and no audible alert.
Text messages appear to alert both audibly and visually after this time period, but after some time the visual indicator goes out as noted initially above. ( i was not able to test sending a text to the phone after the 5+ hour period when was not touched to see if it would alert; that currently remains untested.
Just called the phone at 6:41 am and it alerted properly, AND after I hung up the other phone heard heard the generic notification sound, and noticed the notification light is blinking a different color very slowly ( blue is for text messages; white for everything else ).
I picked up the phone and seen all my messages properly displayed in status bar and one additional one about 50 minutes ago , which would have put it in at less than an hour for Instagram sitting in the notification bar.
It appears that this is either a bug or the doze is overly aggressive, or both.
It might be important for people to get notifications, and to completely silence them could cause some people to not receive critical alerts.
I will most likely go back to 6.0.1 shortly as I simply do not like to be NOT notified in less than an hour of inactivity of use on my device.

if you go at battery settings and press the dots on the top right and choose battery optimization then you will be able to choose what apps doze muat not touch
and its probably a bug as i never had such issue. also gmail wont notify unless for main mails. promo, junk etc wont notify you

I am aware of this feature.
I do not really want to go in and do this for every single application when I never had to in the past, that is just silly. I had zero issues with notifications on 6.0.1 as I have stated.
Besides I am sure some alerts are handled by the OS, so then what? DE-optimize all the apps ? NOT! G-mail worked just fine in the past , I never mentioned junk mail in the OP.
I have noticed that notifications take a long time after I did the upgrade. Now I get facebook notifications 20 mins or more late and I picked up my phone this morning and got lots of them.

I wiped the cache in recovery and it seems ok now but will have to leave the phone for a while to see if it continues.

I think they borked up the doze feature to no notify users after you set the phone down on battery. Its a pretty big deal for your notifications to go silent just like that.
Poor testing Google
Doze seems to suppress emergency alerts as well.
It alerted on my second device, but never on on 5x with N
Looks like I will be ultimately returning to 6.0.1 until Google can get a clue about alerts

Emergency tone is for an emergency call is placed. it was disable on the device that received the emergency cell broadcast, so that is not it.
