Help with Android version/problem update on "HTC Test" one m8 please - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Please forgive any noob errors!
So, i've enjoyed my HTC One m8 for a few years.
I admit i got it eBay (fleaBay!!) from what turns out to be a tester. Hence the "test phone/device" status.
Unbeknown to me, this would appear to have meant that my Android OS has not been updating at all over my ownership.
Not a huge problem until i developed exactly this problem:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/white-dot-mouse-pointer-m8-t3524318
and set about looking into fixing things,

I dont know if being able to update Android would help with above problem, but im sure it'd be a good start.
Installed was
HTC SSD Test Tool App, Ver 5.2.14.6 - anything i can do with this?!
PVS Info App, Ver 2.3
RxD Test QMI App, Ver 1.12
Any advice as to how i can solve either or both of the issues of the white dot/cursor issue - tried all suggested int he other thread, and Android update unlocking would be gratefully received!
Cheers
Dave

The GPS issue and Google Maps problem seems to be a common issue with our device. I experienced it on lineage os and fixed it by flashing the rom linked below. Also, it appears that your bootloader is locked. That needs to be addressed first.

Newbie unlocking thread - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2716150
Another unlocking thread - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571
Also, on googling "HTC test" you may want to investigate that further. There may be an XDA thread related to it as well. It is definitely nothing I am familiar with.

Thanks for the reply AR.
Its looking increasingly like the only way to get anywhere with this might be to unlock. Do you think this would enable updating, or would it then be a question of manually updating?
I'm just a little reluctant becuase i dont want to end up bricking my phone. But i guess it's getting to the point where its becoming increasingly frustrating it might be time to upgrade if nothing else can be done.
As far as the "HTC Test" thing goes there are a few other threads on here and elsewhere, but none with a resolution. Looks like mostly people have been in a position to hand them back and ask for a legit device. Dangers of eBay!

[Q] I know one of you are smart enough to figure this out...

So, this is what I show:

I have tried the latest (as of 12.19.10) unrEVOked to no avail. I'm sure some of you will read this thread and flame me for not reading some 300+ posts in a forum somewhere; the truth is that I have read them but the directions are too hard to follow by date: it's not clear what is out-dated where.
Is this configuration root-able by some means? I have rooted 3 Eris and 2 D1, 2 Intercept. The idea is not foreign to me. I am not, however, willing to stake such a wonderful piece of equipment on speculation. The rules seem to change every couple of hours. I would like full root to be able to use Cyanogenmod. At hboot,my sd image scan says not img available. Is that normal?
Any help will be more than appreciated; I will make sure your name is touted among the ranks here at phandroid!
Thanks in advance.

Is your EVO a 0004 build? If so CM6 has camera issues with those EVOs.

obviously, the answer is not desired!
I wondered this too...
Obviously they are some sort of 'version' numbering system...
mine is an unbranded Desire - shows: PVT1.
The thread linked above suggests PVT4 is newer so that's my thinking behind that.
I don't know any real differences between them though???
Just different builds probably, I've no idea. I'm on PVT1 too - got my Desire a week after its release
I always thought that PVT was some sort of like security thing or linked to it.

Oops! meant to start a new thread
the Difference in betwwn pvt1/2/3/4/ ship desires
Many people are encountering problems which are on pvt4 ship..
The basics that desire shipped and manufactured FOur type of devices PVT1,2,3,4.... the pvt4th is the last segment of the shipment.
The difference between these device is the different SYSTEM BLOCK SIZE and ERASE SIZE....
in pvt4..it is the least..while pvt1 is greatest..means most competible..
GOT IT???
Hit thanks

[Q] Confused noob seeks enlightenment

Hi there,
I have a Motorola Defy on Vodafone UK, that has just had the Vodafone Froyo update. I have tried to find an answer to my question, but no joy.
I would like to get rid of the Vodafone software and use the UK retail version, as then my phone would work as advertised. Unfortunately I get confused by all the different software identifiers on my phone, and wondered if someone would be kind enough to explain what bits could/should be updated.
When I look at Settings/About Phone I see the following
System Version: Details removed to allow posting
Firmware version: 2.2.2
Baseband Version: EPU93_U_00.59.02
Kernel Version: Details removed to allow posting
BPflex version: UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R
APflex version: GAS_EMEA_USAJRDNFRYOVFGB_P021
I had to remove the software file identifiers to be able to post this, but the phone has just had the latest Vodafone Froyo update applied. Hopefully someone will still be able to help by explaining what the titles mean.
I have successfully rooted my phone with SuperOneClick, but am just trying to get a bit more more understanding before I do anything stupid. I quite like the idea of CM7, but think that may be a bit advanced for me, so will perhaps stick with the UK retail Motorola Froyo once I am sure I know what I'm doing.
Thanks
As you have rooted it yet you could delete app with titanium backup from the market.
I can say i have installed custom roms on my defy a few days after i got it, just follow the faq and how to post and you won't damage anything.
Btw, if something goes wrong you'll find help on this forum anyway...

[Q] Unlocking/re-flashing from Orange UK stock android 2.3.5

All, Getting really tired of the un-installable carrier bloatware, apps like Facebook that that never close and not required etc. Before my DHD I used to re-flash my HTC Touch Pro weekly, but it seems the process isn't quite so simple nowadays.
Now please, before I say another word, do not flame me. I am not writing this request for help to be lazy, I've been reading various how-to's all afternoon and there is so much information to assimilate and what if variables, command shells etc I am scared to death of missing something or mis-understanding. Especially around issues if I've done OTA upgrades from Froyo to Gingerbread, which I have.
So please community, sincerely, could someone offer a few tips to cover my back so I'm not back here again tomorrow nursing a bricked handset
Here is my current software info :
Orange UK Stock
Android 2.3.5
Sense 3.0
Software 3.13.61.5
Kernal 2.6.35.10-g931a37e
[email protected] #1
Wed Nov 9 14:04:03 CST 2011
Baseband 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M
Build 3.13.61.5 CL228058 release-keys
Browser Webkit/533.1
The phone itself has Orange hardware branding as do all Orange UK sourced handsets. If I remember correctly the phone shipped with Orange stock Froyo, then an OTA patch, then major update to Gingerbread and then an OTA GPS patch. Whether there were any anti-exploit bootloader fixes tucked in there I do not know.
Have I followed things correctly - that the Advanced Hack Kit will cover all angles and take care of this for me without downgrading etc? Is this correct? Any gotcha's or additonal process steps?
Thank you very much!
Personally I recommend using the HTC Dev official bootloader unlock, it'll give you an open bootloader and you can go right ahead and root your stock ROM or flash any custom DHD ROM you like. It's quite an easy process but you might need to update your HBOOT and HTC's process for that requires Windows, everything else can be done on OS X or Linux as well though (not sure what OS you use, just covering all the angles).
Edit: forgot I was in the DHD forums, bootloader unlocking has limitations, ignore this if you want to use ported ROMs etc, sorry!
Thanks anyway Hexgore.
Well my patience (or lack of) got the better of me so I went ahead and let AAHK do its stuff. What an awesome tool. Followed the instructions to the letter and it worked beautifully, including the auto-downgrade process which I was kind of dreading.
So anyone else on the same stock, go right ahead and I hope it goes as smoothly as mine. IceColdSandwich here I come
I agree AAHK is a brilliant piece of well written piece of code that many people will find useful or have found useful. Personally I think its the easiest way to root and S-OFF for the device. Flash CM7, install SetCPU, install the ICS theme for CM7 and you have perfection! Runs like butter down your chin on my UNDERCLOCKED DHD

[Q] HTC Desire HD People App Stops Working When Phone Connected to Charger

Hi,everyone!
I tried posting this in the TrickDroid thread, but the system won't let me post there,
because this is my first post in xda-developers. (At least, I think it is, but I certainly
haven't made 10 posts yet, which is the requirement for posting in a development thread).
Anyway, it seems that the system is quite happy about me posting in this forum, so I'm
hoping I might be able to get some answers here!
BTW, I've already done several searches and checked the FAQs.
My problem is as follows:
I have an HTC Desire HD, rooted, and running the following software:
Android Version: 4.0.4
HTC Sense Version: 4.1
Software number: TrickDroid v4.0.0 by torxx
HTC SDK API level: 4.11
HTC Extension version: HTCExtension_403_1_GA_5
Kernel version: [email protected])) null
Baseband version: 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M
Build number: 2.22.401.1 CL92876 release-keys
Browser version: WebKit/534.30
I installed TrickDroid using 4Ext Recovery.
Mostly I have no problems with it, except that it seems a little slow, but there is
one strange error that happens whenever I connect the phone to a charger, (regardless
of whether it is via USB or a mains charger.
The error message says: "Unfortunately, People has stopped." There is an "OK" button to tap.
At first, I though it had something to do with mounting the SD card in Windows Explorer, but then
I noticed that it also happens when I connect the phone to a mains charger, so, I guess it must have
something to do with charging mode.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or if anyone has any idea what might be causing
this problem.
Many thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!
Best regards to all
Chris Souter
