Hello,
Android phone: HTC Sprint EVO 4g
Connected to PC by USB cable
PC OS :Win XP
Last update of android sdk : very recent (today). up to date updates
On command line if I type adb devices:
adb devices
it shows "List of devices empty".
Did the following resolutions but nothing worked.
Cleared the windows registers under devices/controls
Cleared driver from system32
Tried to reinstall the driver again, It shows the following message on
the screen
"Cannot Install the hardware because wizard cannot find the necessary
software"
I specified the windows USB driver directory manually..It shows the
same message again.
Checked the contents of the <sdk> usb directory..i can see one. inf
file and two .cat files
So, please suggest me what to do to fix this. I have spent my whole
day and frustrated.
Why simple things are so complex on android.
Please help me with suggestions.
Thanks,
Arjun.
I am an Ubuntu Linux user. I am now using ubuntu 12.10.
Just upgraded my HOX to JellyBean via OTA.
When I connect HOX to computer via USB cable,
'Mount USB Mass Storea' option is not appeared and I can't find it in system settings.
After google search, I know that USB Mass Storge mode is replaced by MTP/PTP mode.
I found a post and followed it to mount my HOX.
But aways fail.
I can't post URL here.

Does anyone successfully mount HOX external store under ubuntu linux after update to JellyBean?
You should ask ubuntu to make drivers for hox in MTP mode, or mount the usb in a custom recovery
I didn't use linux for a long time,

I have the same probem, i find this 2 posts, i didn't try it yet....
http://sourceforge.net/p/libmtp/bugs/663/
In the last post the people of libmtp add HOX to the mtp devices and the put it in the GIT, so you will have to compile it from the source
https://gist.github.com/3884439
in this one, they offer a solution to connect it, albeit, probably you have to compile it anyway.
If you make it, post it here, i will do the same...

I compiled libmtp and go-mtpfs.
Still doesn't work.
Hi mates,
Kubuntu 12.10 here. Attaching HOX (JB 3.14.401.27) to my PC works out of the box.
It appears (and gets automatically mounted) as "portable media player", and I can open it with any file explorer (i use dolphin).
Strange that you can't make it work on ubuntu. Finally, I don't know whether it is relevant or not, but I have a simple udev rule for allowing HTC devices (0bb4, it was necessary for using adb).

If you're on custom recovery
Have you tried:
1. Boot into recovery
2. Connect USB
3. Mount Storage under mount section
Work'd for me and it saved my phone from brick.

This also did work for me.
I am new to android, HTC One VX being my first phone ((Got it like Last year as a gift iirc)).
Using Stock rom and my os is 8.1 pro x64
I am trying to unlock the bootloader.. I went to HTCdev, followed the directions for unlocking the bootlader.
1. Got the Android SDK and installed
2. Got the HTC SYnc Manager for the drivers.
3. Got Fastboot and moved it to where the ADB .dll file is.
I get my phone into bootloader after making sure USB Debugging is enabled, then I plug it into my computer. After a few moments, Windows pops up with USB Device is not recognized. I check Device Manager, it shows "My HTC" under unknown devices. I manually point the thing to where the W8 x64 driver is , and it says the driver is up to date. Bring up the Property info of the device, this is what is showing int he text box,
Code:
A request for USB BOS descriptor failed
Just to make sure, I navigate back to the ADB folder, bring up CMD there and type in
Code:
adb devices
. No device was listed despite my phone being connected to my computer. Tried it with 3 different cords, front and back of my computer. ((USB 3.0 ports.))
I put it in one of my USB 2.0 ports and the issue persists, the device status shows
Code:
A device which does not exist was specified
.
Is there anyway to fix this, its quiet annoying, Apparently doing clean reinstalls of everything isn't going to fix it for me.
I have a Oneplus 3, and after I updated my laptop's Windows 10 to the new Anniversary Update (I'm not sure what's the reason, so I mentioned this, just in case), it fails to recognize the MTP option when I connect the phone to my laptop. Although, it is able to recognize the phone in P2P (Photo Transfer) mode and wholly recognizable on my Ubuntu on the same laptop and other Windows laptops/PCs apart from mine.
I tried updating the driver software from the Device Manager but it shows the following error:
Code:
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting
to install it.
[MTP Device Symbol]
A service installation section in this INF is invalid.
Thank You
When clicking on the "Driver update" find Android device, and MTP. There should be 2 options. Select an option, and if it isn't working, select the other. Hope i helped
"Cannot replace file" "Cannot copy file" error on Android File Transfer for Mac
Although I can move files from Mac to phone using Android File Transfer, I cannot move files from phone to Mac using Android File Transfer app. The error window is "Cannot replace file" "Cannot copy file".
One possible clue to problem is that when I turned on USB debugging and plugged it into the Mac, the bubble on the phone asking me if I wanted to trust this Mac never popped up. So that I can run down this possible cause, where are USB debugging certificates stored on Mac?
Pixel XL running V factory image (bootloader unlocked, error shows up both rooted and unrooted)
As a follow-up, I can access my photos (and pull them to my macbook pro's folders) via the "adb pull" command. I believe this to be a mac-side issue now
