I purchased a used Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 on ebay. Originally it had Android 4.4.2
When I turned it on the device is in retail demo mode.
I have tried the following
1) passwords found on this forum such as (5444, M729Q16K8546, blue, unlimited, easy, galaxy)
2) none of these worked
3) Can not deselect "samsung retail mode" in settings/security/administrators
I tried updating to android 6.0.1 by doing the following but the retail mode is still there
It will not enter into download mode so I did the following
1) Enabled developer options on tablet
2) Used command "adb reboot download"
3) Installed Android 6.0.1 stock rom (T800XXU1CPH7_T800XAR1CPH4_XAR.zip) from sammobile.com
4) Tablet installed and updated Android
5) Retail mode is still there and I still can not get rid of it
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated
Thanks
Never had a retail demo device so my answer may be limited.
Did you tried/are able to install TWRP ?
If you can get TWRP you can try to make a complete factory wipe (Advanced Wipe > check all the boxes > wipe)
Then reboot to download mode (Reboot > Download)
Install the stock rom again
Here is the link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...p-2-8-6-1-unofficial-sm-t800-805-807-t3074633
Flash it via odin
I have tried to do TWRP but can not get it to work. I did not use the apk I was using ODIN on my pc. I was using a TWRP file twrp_3.0.0-0_T800. Not sure if that was the issue or not.
Here are the steps I used:
1) put phone into download mode by using adb on pc (adb reboot download)
2) In ODIN
a) turn off autop reboot
b) select AP file twrp_3.0.0-0_T800
c) wait for success in ODIN
3) tablet never rebooted so I used these keys (press at same time until reboot power+vol down+vol up+home)
4) Tablet rebooted into normal running mode
If you don't enter in recovery right away you flash it the system will revert the changes back. so if the system start to boot normally you need to flash via odin again.
I recommend you to flash the version i linked, as it is more compatible with MM bootloader, also turning off auto reboot is a very important thing.
You need to press all the buttons together power+vol down+vol up+home, (press power last) . when the screen light up release the volume up button (the next to power button) and keep holding the rest.
also...
You can try one trick that i use sometimes, it will give you more time to make the key combination, connect the device to the charger and press and hold power+vol up until the screen turn off, it may show a battery icon, so you disconnect the charger and wait the icon go away. the device should be turned off now. so you basically press and hold vol down+home+power (press power last)
If you done the combination correctly and the screen became black, don't worry, it is a bug, just wait some time (1 min i think) and press home key, it should show the recovery.
It can be a pain in the a** sometimes... but trust me, it generally works.
Ok, so far so good. It took a while but I got into TWRP. But I can't seem to select the image file.
I have it on an external MicroSD in the root. File is called T800XXU1CPH7_T800XAR1CPH4_XAR.zip
I can browse files on the list on the left. But I can't seem to find the file
Did I miss a step?
Somehow after going through menus, it recognized the file
But when I tried to install it, I got these errors
Zip Signature verification failed!
Error installing zip file /sdcard/download/T800XXU1CPH7_T800ZXAR1CPH4_XAR.zip
Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' in zip file
Error installing zip file /sdcard/download/T800XXU1CPH7_T800ZXAR1CPH4_XAR.zip
you got me wrong, in the TWRP what you need to do is make a complete wipe (Wipe > Advanced Wipe > check all the boxes > wipe)
then you need to enter in download mode. (Reboot > Download)
and flash the rom via odin!
extract the zip on your pc, it should be a .Tar file, select AP mode on odin, select the .tar and flash it in there.
I apologize for the confusion. Those steps worked!!
I think part of the problem is that I did not extract the firmware file. I kept trying to flash the TAR file.
I did a wipe in TWRP
Then rebooted into download mode
Flashed extracted firmware file in ODIN in AP Box
Then the tablet rebooted and was in setup mode like a brand new tablet!! Who hoo.
Works great
Thanks for all the help
After flashing this there is no need to press that key combo (VOL up key + Power + Bixby) to boot into Magisk mode. Just after flashing this image your S10+ will automatically boot up in the Magisk mode. And that key combo (VOL up key + Power + Bixby) will be used to boot your phone directly into recovery mode.

S10+ Exynos or Snapdragon ? or work for both ?
for s10 + exynos version
Just 3 things i wanna ask.
1. But you didnt mention twrp version?
2. Even if we already are on twrp' latest version we need to wipe because its prepatched?
3. We shouldnt ever factory reset or just after first installation? But we can factory reset from settings?
1. Latest Twrp 3.3.1-7
2. if you have a twrp installed then kindly do not flash it.
3. Kindly make a backup from twrp recovery before making a factory reset in case any thing goes wrong
Sorry for such a rudimentary question but are the adb commands done individually after "su" or is that one command line too long to fit in the box? Sorry, I've just been fighting with getting twrp on my phone since last night. Root works fine but after flashing patched img file I can never get it to go into twrp. Always goes to stock recovery even though flash is successful. I originally thought I was messing up the key combo but I have my suspicions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

UPDATE××Got TWRP to boot the first time. First time system booted fine but I lost root. Did a fresh root per magisk install guide and reflashed twrp.img in root shell. Got twrp to boot again but it continues to boot loop. I only wiped internal with no factory reset. I know it's probably something I'm doing. Any suggestions?

It seems magisk not installed properly. Download latest firmware from Carotix folder Here it have prepatched recovery prepatched ap you need not to do anything you need to reflash recovery n system ...use odin flash patched ap cp bl and use HOME_CSC (you will not use any data apps or anything) Just flash using odin everything will work fine.
also download multidisabler from ian's multidisabler thread HERE put it in phone as need to flash after boot into Twrp!
instructions copied from Carotix thread
Download 4 files from OTA/ODIN FILES then follow this guide:
and put the last Multidisabler in your phone
1- Turn off the device and put it in download mode with the bixby / vol down button and inserting the cable to the PC at this point open Odin remove the check mark from autoreboot
2- Load the AP .tar file downloaded from OTA together with the BL the CP and the HOME_CSC .... if you put the CSC you lose all the data
3- Start the flash and wait
4- At the end you disconnect the phone from the cable and with the power / vol down keys force the switch off as soon as the screen goes black press vol + / bixby / power to go in recovery and don't leave the keys until you see the twrp screen, continue to keep the 3 keys pressed and wait for the recovery to start again
5- Flash the multidisabler then from the main screen choose recovery reboot to boot rooted/magisk system.

Thanks for your help. I had to do it a little unconventional to get it working. None of the prepatched recoveries that are included in all these firmware downloads would work for me using Odin. Only flashing this twrp.img in a root shell would work. I finally just flashed Beyond rom zip after getting into twrp along with the disabler zip. Boots into rooted system with no problems and I can boot into twrp with no problems as well. Oh yea, I flashed Beyond over ASG8 also. Not sure why I could never get ASH6 to work.

Hello kkrraazzyy,
can you please explain how to install your twrp.
I already habe twrp installed. an this rom. --> https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/development/rom-carhdrom-1-t3938987
But a want to install your twrp to boot always with Magisk without to press any key.
I need your help please.
Any proper YouTube guide video for these things, as flashing/rooting became so complicated with so many steps.... Thank you!
So from my understanding this is the first and only way to have the phno boot into the patched recovery automatically without needing top physically press the button combo? Or have I missed something Was just expecting there to have been a lot more attention that's all.
This has actually what has been one of the main reasons holding me back from rooting as it reminds me back in the day of tethered and untethered jailbreaks for iPhones.
Except that this is just a inconvenience while tethered would make the phone practically unusable.
Is there an app i can use to backup and restore my kik chats? I got a new phone, a Samsung Galaxy 10+ and want to tramsfer my kik chats and save data for Digimon Heroes! to my new galaxy 10+ i dont have root on either phones is there a app (apk) or one i can downlod on my laptop to make the backup of them so i can bring them over. Please i only have a dew days left to transfer my number over and have my old phone shut dwn by my previous provider. I need to do it on the next 2 days.

Use Smart Switch by Samsung, it includes the possibility of transferring all your data and settings using a USB cable. I transferred everything from my old phone to this one (S10+ SM-G975F). I don't know if it will work on non-Samsung devices, but it's worth a try.
I have android 10 on my s10+, will this twrp work with android q?
possible to boot without root permissions too?
:good:
Hi @kkrraazzyy , could you show us how you did it?

Hi there.
I screwed up my MediaPad M5 Lite (Wifi edition: BAH2-W19, EMUI 8 installed. It's a treble compatible device) yesterday and need help.
I did the following steps before it all went down the gutter:
1. I successfully unlocked the bootloader using the DC Unlocker method
2. I downloaded the latest a-only AOSP release of "phhusson AOSP 9.0 v119": system-arm64-aonly-vanilla-nosu.img.xz (https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/releases)
3. I rebooted into bootloader and flashed the unzipped .img file to the device. The flash was successful as all 4 steps of copieing stuff tot he system partition said "OKAY"
4. now I used "fastboot reboot" and the trouble started. The tablet froze in fastboot mode. It just didn't restart.
5. I turned it of using a long push on the power button. Then it restarted and got stuck at the start screen. I'll attach a screenshot so you know what I am seeing.
6. From now on I was only able to boot into fastboot mode and into the stock recovery. There I did factory reset and cache formatting several times but with no effect.
7. Only thing that still worked was the eRecovery function in the EMUI stock recovery. With this I was able to download some official firmware from Huawei automatically and the tablet was back to stock
8. This night the OS did an auto update to v215.
9. So this morning I repeated the step 2. from above but with a different a-only custom rom and again it didn't work out
10. I tried to use the eRecovery function to get back to stock, but now the recovery is broken and throws an error "Getting package info failed".
I also tried to download older firmware from https://androidhost.ru/ and flash it with the dload method. Without success of course. While doing it I receive an error "Software install failed!". I will attach a screenshot.
Can anybody give me a hint what I could do next to approach the problem?
Best
rob
Well, you didn't had TWRP as recovery, so no nandroid backup available. From one of my experiences with flashing a stock rom for acer, I had to delete some lines of code from the meta inf folder relating the version of the phone, in order to successfully flash it. Maybe the stock ROM you are trying has some lines of code detecting if bootloader unlocked.
Im also having trouble getting a good tutorial for getting rid of the os or just to have magisk on the tablet
You dowoad latest rom and flash stock via hru and. Twrp search xda

You can install these roms only if you can downgrade to update v177 and lower
Like me you need to Unbrick your mediapad m5 lite
First place need to go back in Fastboot mode.
So UNPLUG , turn off , wait a second and turn on with volume Down , when screen blink release power button and keep volume down pressed a second until Fastboot mode
Or, try to boot in Fastboot with volume down + power AND USB plugged in goes into fastboot, or TWRP if you flashed TWRP to RECOVERY2 instead to RECOVERY.
If doesnt work try the same plug or unplug cuz we have Recovery_ramdisk , eRecovery and eRecovery2
WHEN its okay and you can turn on fastboot mode
Second prepair the img's for unbricking
The LEGIT methods its come back stock rom , then you'll be able to do what you want.
Download Huawei Multi-Tools , Huawei Update Extractor and update.zip of your stock ROM and update_data_full
Then use Huawei Update Extractor to extract
system.img ramdisk.img recovery_ramdisk.img From update.app\update.zip and
Cust.img from update.app\update_full_public.zip.
If you have backup of your userdata.img its the time to put all together in the same directory before go futher.
If all its good , you just need to click unbrick.
Maybe i'll soon do a guide for unbrick and prevent brick , and how install twrp without losing data or encryption data

And just for the complete list:
Volume up + power AND USB plugged in goes into eRecovery (or TWRP, if you flashed TWRP to RECOVERY2 instead to RECOVERY)
Volume up and down + power and USB plugged in forces update via USB (indicated by a little USB-like icon in the recovery circle. The progess bar goes to 5% and waits for input from your PC)

You'd better install TWRP,flash FBE-disabler and format data partition
Anyway, firmware can be found at professorjtj.github.io and I recommend you rebrand and update it to EMUI9 to get better treble compatibility

i also need that man.
Please make one thing clear
Do we have to turn off "Auto reboot"
Or keep the "Auto reboot" option checked on?
Android 9.0
Hello, when it will be possible ? If never, why ?
I followed the exact process but everytime i tried to boot into TWRP recovery immediately after the flashing, the device still boots into stock recovery instead of TWRP
Please help me with this
Thank you
I figured out a way to root the Galaxy J7 duo
Actually i have tried lot of ways to root using TWRP flash and all.. but one day i accidentally bricked my device
So i downloaded the stock ROM to flash my device
And i downloaded the 8.0 android ROM
So this root method basically tested on android 8.0
So now i have android 8.0 stock ROM downloaded
Step 1 -
So make sure you also downloaded the ROM
And extract the ROM file (you must have got the "AP" "CP" "BL" "CSC" and "HOME CSC" file)
Then copy the "AP" file in your phone
Then install magisk manager in your phone
Open magisk, select install, select and patch a file from magisk
Then select "AP" file
And wait while magisk is patching the "AP" file
When flashing is done the patched file will be saved on storage, emulated, 0, download (file will be saved as "magisk_patched.tar")
Then simply copy the patched file in your computer
Step 2 -
Open odin in your Computer
In odin, select "magisk_patched.tar" in "AP" section
Select "BL" from the stock ROM folder in the odin's "BL" section
Select "CP" from the stock ROM folder in the odin's "CP" section
Select "HOME CSC" from the stock ROM folder in the odin's "HOME CSC" section
make sure you select all the official files from the stock ROM folder... just instead of the "AP" file, select the "magisk_patched.tar"
Then connect your phone via USB cable
Odin will detect and show "added" message
Start the flashing process
It will take few minutes
When its done your phone will boot up
But it will show something like "erasing" and "verification unsuccessful"
Just agree with that and erase the phone
(It will cause a data loss because everything will be deleted and your phone will reset, so i suggest to make a backup using samsung smart switch)
Then when your phone will reboot, just follow the steps to setup
Amd install magisk latest apk
Open magisk and boom!
You can already realize that magisk root is activated
Amd magisk will ask you to "setup environment"
Just agree and your phone will reboot withing 5 seconds
And done!
Your phone is now rooted
Install root checker and verify your root status
how to un-brick
Same thing here,
Tell me how you un-bricked your phone
I bricked my phone by installing wrong twrp file to sm-j720f android pie with odin
and now it shows only bootloader screen and I can't even go to recovery mode or home screen just showing " SAMSUNG GALAXY J7 DUO secured by Knox powerd by android" noting else
That is exactly what was happened in my phone
So what i did just downloaded the Stock ROM for J7 duo from the sam mobile website.
Then extract the ROM and you will get few files ("AP", "BL", "CP", "CSC", "HOME CSC")
Then boot your phone into download mode using this method
(Connect the phone to your PC using USB cable, then press and hold Power + volume down + home, then when the "powered by android" logo appears release only the power button... so your phone will boot into download mode, press volume up to continue)
Now, in odin you can see "added" message that means device is connected
Now select the ROM files respectively, BL, AP, CP, CSC
Then click start, and the process will start, will take few minutes
When done, your phone will boot normally
Yeah everything is right until...

Fact that I cant even go to download mode I tried out many times
Just follow this step
(Connect your computer with your phone using USB cable, then press and hold Power + volume down + home, then when the phone vibrates and appears the samsung logo again just release only the power key, while holding the volume down and home key)
(Just release only the power key when the "powered by android" logo appears)
Thats how you can go to the download mode
No virtual change
Done it as u say,
But my mobile shows noting but just logo screen
*****SAMSUNG GALAXY J7 DUO secured by Knox powered by android*****
again and again
These is not first time, last I did the same mistake before and I went to Samsung service store they recovered it, I don't know how they did but it worked.
These time I want to (tring to) do it on my own bcoz I love playing with ROM's, root, etc.
Thanks for replys
I also did the same mistake by flashing wrong TWRP
But however i managed to enter into downlod mode following those steps
And flashed official ROM to unbrick the phone
You must go into download mode to flash the official ROM using odin
Thanks alot
Thanks man,
I'm able to enter download mode and I installed official ROM. Now in using it as normal but (1)Secure folder and Pay mini are not working.
(2)Do you have any idea on other ROMs that works on SM-J720F other than Samsung's one UI.
(3)can I install android 8 on it in ordered to root as you said it in previous post.
(4)from previous your post on oreo twrp explanation, is twrp works fine. What happens to twrp if I update phone to Q (from system updater)
I'm glad you made it!
Now,
1) Secure folder and pay mini won't work because the phone thinks you rooted your phone and maybe your binary is cracked (so forget using those)
2) I'm not sure about any ROMs which is stable with this model. But you can search the internet (I think pixel ROM is pretty popular)
3) I'm not sure if my process of rooting supports android 9.0 or not, because i personally tetsted it on 8.0, So you can download the oreo ROM from the internet and then follow all the steps i mentioned before
4) If you want to install TWRP, you can still install TWRP after rooting via the method i provided
(You can install TWRP using flashify on a rooted phone)
But if you want root access then you can simply root your phone first..
And whatever custom ROMs you want to install, install it using flashify
Because if you update software via official OTA, the root access and TWRP both will be gone
And if you root your phone, then however you won't be able to perform a official OTA update.
(First root your phone, then simply download your TWRP file and flash it with root permission within your phone)
Instated of Oreo AP file,

Ok I agree with you,
But what if I replace Oreo's AP file with android 10's AP file(which I installed recently on my phone), will it boot with root or not.
************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
I have not tested this method on any other android version, you can still try it on your own, there is nothing to lose, just make a backup before flashing. If you succeed then that's great
But i have personally tested this method only on android 8.0
(Before doing anything, just make a proper backup using samsung smart switch. So you can restore your important data)
Success
Replaced with android 10's AP file and flashed with Odin. Now my phone has rooted with Magisk manager.
Any suggestions to tweak android

mega.nz/#!SWYwAQAb!bbLnex8yhT7tyBTdTMr2wIS-tzITjg5VMJ_p1msXenQ
but after flashing
the phone is stuck in samsung a50 logo and i can do nothing except opening download mode
and i get error this phone's bootloader is unlocked and its software integrity can't be verified any data on this phone maybe un vulnerable to attackers don't software any important or sensitive information on this phone
what should i do to bring it back and uninstall flashed twrp
thanks in advance
1) Find you firmware [https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/search/a505/]
-Clicking on your model will present you with firmware downloads
-Find yours and download it [country and network or just the country should work]
-Extract it somewhere.
2) Get Odin [https://dl2018.sammobile.com/Odin3-v3.14.4.zip]
-Extract it somewhere
-Load it
-Add the files from the firmware folder into the correct sections (i.e/ ap, bl, csc - I cant remeber them all of the top of my head)
3) Get into download mode
-Power off device or if its boot looping Press and hold power + vol down to force a restart
-Press and hold both vol buttons and connect it to your computer with usb
-Odin should now say added in the log
4) press start and wait
