Anyone else waiting for a viable alternative than the current screen protector available?
Flex HD and Zagg look good, but they have many drawbacks, and the adhesive protectors do not offer any full screen protection. I am aware that it is due to the curved nature of the gorilla glass but surely someone would be able to make an adhesive protector which simply curves around the edges? (the edges would be uniform on all S3's so I do not see a problem there)
Does anyone have news of any upcoming screen protectors?
I assume there is nothing to come then

wet apply screen protectors that cover the screen are going to be a soft material and hence more grippy and rubbery.
dry apply ones which are hard will only be able to cover the whole screen if they where made curved out of the factory to custom fit the S3. the cost for tooling and manufacture and for packaging will prob put off manufacturers making them. plus if they aren't the right curve or angle then it won't fit properly. so theoretically it is possible, but due to the complexity i doubt they will be produced.
forgive me if i am wrong but i think current screen protectors all come off one line when being made, then just cut to the specific shape for each phone. but if you were to make a custom curved one, then a whole production line would just be making those ones making it much more expensive.
I bought one from ebay...
XtremeGuard Screen Protector/Shield - Galaxy s3
I am not happy with the quality. I have ordered from them in the past and have had no issues. Now the material seems a lot thinner and my tpu case keeps pushing up the sides...So stay away if you are using a TPU case
I kind of asked similar question, but for now, there is none except for wet screen protector. If you are looking for a dry screen protector, SGP Ultra Nano Clear might be the best one. I saw this review, and it looks almost invisible because it's thin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741650
Had a Chat with Spigen, turns out they are in fact developing a new screen protector but as they are in talks with their manufacturer they cant give any solid details. Here is the Message they sent me:
"Dear XXXXX,
Thank you for contacting Spigen.com Customer Service Department.
Hi, my name is Diana from Spigen.com.
Thank you for your interest in our products! We are currently developing a new screen protector for the Galaxy S3, unfortunately, because nothing has been confirmed with the manufacturers at the moment, there is not much information we can provide as to what kind of screen protector it may be. However, please continue to check our website, facebook, and twitter pages for updates on all of our products from time to time.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Thank you.

Looks like we will get some good news soon, if we stay patient that is
Looks like we got our answer! http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/sa...creen-protector-steinheil-curved-crystal.html
Old thread lol but ill bump it up. I have the Xtremeguard from ebay ($2 shipped) and its pretty good, lot better that the zagg ive had in the past, and alot cheaper lol. Almost no orange peel look (very minimal). It is indeed kinda grippy at first but after usage it smooth outs enough. Feels good now, still slight grippy effect but smooth while texting or whatnot
How about one that offers more than scratch protection. How about one that can keep the screen from shattering when dropped on gravel from five feet face down!
Just got my GS3 a week ago and I love everything about it so far. However, I'm starting to think I'll need a screen protector for it. Just for convenience I searched on Amazon and came across Tech Armor's screen protector. It has good reviews but other than the reviews on Amazon haven't been able to find more information about it.
Has anyone tried this sp out yet to get some insight from? Doing research on others but interested in learning more about Tech Armor products.
I literally just applied one. It went on fine. Just FYI - it does not cover the entire screen. It's edges are trimmed to the home button and top cameras and span a millimeter or so past the screen to either side. I'd definitely use it again especially as the 3-pack is under $10 shipped.
i was looking at those too... i was initially impressed with the reviews but then realized this was the only product those people ever reviewed.
Maybe i'm just jaded but 6 5 star reviews by people who've never reviewed anything else seems a little fishy to me.
Great to hear! Have you heard of the SGP curved crystal that's going to be coming out soon? Wondering if I should wait for that or try this one out.

I ended up ordering both the anti-glare and the clear, but i don't have the sgs3 yet. Has anyone else tried the techarmor? I might just return them if I did get screwed by the 10 amazon reviews....
I have the HD clear one from tech amor and it works great....doesnt affect screen quality at all and easy to apply, comes with three screens and a lifetife warranty so you cant go wrong!

Ok, well I guess I'm only out the $14 if they are terrible. I will post my discoveries once I get my SGS3.
it's good
I purchased the Tech Armor anti-glare and anti-fingerprint screen protector from Amazon for ~$10. It was really easy to apply and it does the job. My only gripe is that it degrades the screen quality by a little, but it was worth the $10.
I have this and it's a good screen protector. You get three which is good but some of my corners are starting to peel a little.

What's the point of screen protectors with Gorilla Glass? I mean the screen won't scratch, it will shatter, which a protector won't stop. So, what's the point?

It's still glass and it still is most certainly prone to scratches, scuffs, nicks, dings, and dents. Honestly, I can sleep more sound at night knowing I have just one more layer of protection on my $600+ device.
For the record, my girlfriend purchased these screen protectors for her S3 and she is extremely disappointed with how much the protector cuts down on vibrant colors and light from the screen.
I bought these anti-glare/anti-finger print ones that come in a 3 pack for about $10. I think they are ok as far as fit and stickability goes, but imo they make the beautiful screen turn into a fuzzy rainbow blurry piece of crap. I am returning mine and buying something else. I've only seen one other phone that had a screen protector looking this bad.

I have the clear. It's good. Like other clear screen protectors oil, smudges, and fingerprints will show up.
FYI, for anyone interested, I wrote this review on Amazon. I'm not usually one to write reviews, but I felt I had to because of how it makes the screen look.

Hello, this is Tech Armor. At the time this post was written we had just launched product on Amazon for the Samsung Galaxy SIII. We are currently the #1 brand on Amazon for protecting the Samsung Galaxy SIII thanks to your support. We do our best to provide stellar customer service paired with a quality product. We offer a lifetime product replacement warranty on every product we sell, and we stand behind it. If any forum members want to review our products, please contact us and we can send out evaluation samples.
The Samsung Galaxy series including the Galaxy Notes ( I use a Note II) have curved screens with a beveled edge, which makes applying a stiff screen protector a challenge, but we have developed a solution with a thinner, more pliable material. We also leave a 2.5mm clearance gap around the beveled edge to prevent peeling. If you really clean the screen well and center your screen protector in the installation, it will stay on for a long time and protect your phone from daily wear and tear and the abrasions we encounter as part of our daily lives.
We offer the protectors in two finishes, the High Definition Clear and the Antiglare/Antifingerprint (Matte) Finish.
The Matte Finish product has 3 main benefits:
Reduces Glare
Reduces Fingerprints and Smudges
Has a soft feel/touch (Often preferred by gamers and power users)
However, you do sacrifice some clarity for these features and it is not for everyone. If a user buys this product and does not like it, we offer to exchange it for the High Definition clear model.
Please visit our website for more information.
All the best,
Tech Armor Support

Cr3amy,
I noticed your post, and albeit quite late, I wanted to respond to you as I just discovered the Xda site. I hope you monitor it so we can assist you.
We are sorry you are unhappy with the Matte finish of the anti-glare/anti-fingerprint screen protectors. All Tech Armor Screen Protectors use the highest quality Japanese PET Film available and we use 100% Bubble Free adhesives.
The Matte Finish product has 3 main benefits:
Reduces Glare
Reduces Fingerprints and Smudges
Has a soft feel/touch (Often preferred by gamers and power users)
However, you do sacrifice some clarity for these features and it is not for everyone. The last thing we want is an unhappy customer, so we will gladly send you a replacement pack of 3 High Definition Clear screen protectors at no cost to you.
Simply email us at customerservice with your order number and we will ship them out to you via USPS First class immediately.
We offer a Lifetime Replacement warranty on all of our products and we stand behind it. We will take care of your issue to your satisfaction and if not will gladly refund your full purchase price.
Please visit our website and read the pro tips and watch the installation video to get the most out of your screen protector investment.
We won’t rest until we can make you a satisfied customer, just give us the chance!
All the best,
Tech Armor Support Team
I think all anti-fingerprint screen protectors reduce the display quality. I believe the matte finish that reduces fingerprints is slightly raised throughout and the lack of a smooth finish is what reduces the fingerprints but at the same time reduces the screen quality. I used Steinheil anti-fingerprint screen protectors on my Captivate and I was more than willing to compromise the screen quality for the lack of fingerprints. I couldn't find them for my S3 so I ordered the Tech Armor ones which will arrive this coming week. I don't watch videos/play games so I'm no doubt not as critical of the screen quality as someone that does.
Unless you're one to constantly clean your screen IMO the fingerprints reduce the screen quality way more than the anti-fingerprint protectors. My Captivate rarely needed the screen cleaned (virtually zero fingerprints) and I'm hoping the same is true for the Tech Armor protectors. When I'm in the field using an Excel spreadsheet with a client I don't want to have to constantly clean the screen so they can clearly see it. I'll settle for little/no fingerprints and the ability to see the screen albeit at a reduced quality every time.
Based on this review. I grabbed one ff these kits from amazon and installed today. Very pleased with the product and installation was a breeze.
Wouldn't know about those. Had one of those cheapo 3x for $1 off ebay and have nothing really bad to say about them. Also got them replaced later by the one that came with my UAG urban armor case and i find it slightly better, specially when applying. Just not sure if it's worth the difference.
Anyway, it's good to see that tech armor has great customer support that will even bother to reply here in xda. That's something most companies overlook and i'll easily pay extra for.
I've made a review on the iPhone 5 Tech Armor HD screen protector and I wanted to share my experience here. I've only used ZAGG and Ghost Armor before I've tried this and I must say that I prefer Tech Armor much more over those 2 brands. The feel of the screen protector is much better and when I give my phone to other people to use, they don't even notice the screen protector is there. So the quality of the screen protector is there.
On top of that, I noticed some imperfections on the screen protector, it seemed that there were some small scratches on the protector itself and it started to peel a little. I informed Tech Armor of my problem and they sent me 3 more for free. So customer service is also there when it comes to Tech Armor.
I've never purchased Clarivue or SGP before so I can't comment on the clarity/feel versus those two brands, but if anyone has input on that, I'd be interested to hear what it is. I found this thread by searching Tech Armor and there doesn't seem to be many forum posts on this company and I'm currently in the market to see what screen is the best for my Nexus 4 (I know this is the S3 thread).

i was wondering the same thing. Specifically, i was curious about the thickness and how noticeable it is. Also is it really that much better than plastics? I've been using the spigen ultra crystal on all of my devices and have been quite happy. Are these really worth the added expense?

I have a Glas.tR Nano on my Galaxy S4 right now and had a Glas.tR Slim on my HTC one before this phone. Both have been outstanding and are worlds better than any of the plastic protectors. In my opinion, they provide a nicer feel than the gorilla glass itself does. Also, the thickness was hardly noticeable with the Slim and is not noticeable at all with the nano.
As with any of these though, experience really depends on your skill/luck with applying them.

I've always been able to apply the spigens in one motion/attempt without any bubbles. Is it easier or harder than them to apply? Also do you have any experience with using the protector with a bumper or tpu case? Does it prevent the case from working properly or the case impact the protector from staying on? thanks for the insights.

Given these are glass, they are a bit tricker to apply as you cannot bend/press from one side to the other. Bubbles are not an issue, but dust underneath seems more pronounced with these versus plastic. That said, I've been able to apply both of mine without too much hassle and both came out flawless. (I did have to make a few attempts re-applying on my HTC One)
When installing, I go into the bathroom and run the shower as hot as I can for several minutes - condensation settles the dust.
Also worth mentioning that these protectors use a different type of adhesive than the plastic versions. If you completely screw up installing it, you can run the sticky side underneath water and then apply strips of scotch tape to it. Let it sit for a minute and then pull the tape off. This removes any dust and will allow you to re-apply it as if you had just pulled it from the box. I did not have to do this with either of mine, but a friend used this technique and was blown away how well it worked.
The Glass.Tr for the nexus 5 is a dud. They sold defective models to everyone, including myself, and all the reviews on Amazon are 3 or less stars. The product has been removed but if you have one don't apply it. Bubbles galore

I'm currently waiting for mine to arrive from Amazon, ordered a week ago. Have you tried to apply it? What shall I do once it arrives? Contact the seller on Amazon for a refund/replacement?
Thanks in advance for any help!
I have the GLAS.tR - has a large area at bottom right not adhering to the glass, no matter what I do. The area was initially .25 in diameter, but over night is not > 1 in diameter.
The protector will nit stick no matter what! Bummer - the quality and tactile feel is just perfect.
RMA request has been sent to Spigen for a refund. The other Spigen thread is FULL of other folks with similar complaints.
Got this the other day. If you bought from amazon I would definitely file a claim.

As the title says i'm looking for a flat TGSP. I've found that even though i miss maybe +/- 10% of the total glass being covered it's still better than nothing. I haven't found a curved TGSP for my s6 or s7 edge that i liked, and i've tried hundreds of dollars worth.. There is always some sort of issue with the full screen protectors. Whether it's Halo, poor touch, case incompatibility, poor adhesive, crap oleophobic coating, etc.
I put a flat protector on my s7 edge and loved it. For me, scratching the screen while in my pocket seems to be my biggest issue. With a flat TGSP that issue is gone. I'm using the Verizon curved TGSP on my s8+ now but i hate it. The fit is better than most, but i get a mirror effect, especially while outside, it's very hard to read the display. The oleophobic coating is horrible or non existent. Fingerprints show up like i'm at a crime scene. If anyone has ran across a flat protector that does not cover the edge please post a link or brand. Thanks so much!!
I have asked this same question several times in other Tempered glass screen protector threads. My posts get completely ignored. Bottom line is that curved protectors DO NOT WORK on these phones. They are terrible. Literally hundreds and hundreds of posts of people trying out different brands, etc, and they all suck. The only thing that works is a tempered screen protector that covers only the FLAT part of the display. I had one on my Note 7 and it worked great, I had one on my S7E and it worked great. I can't seem to find one for the S8+ yet which is why I have been asking in several threads if anyone has found a place to buy a flat area only tempered screen protector. So hopefully someone has and chimes in on this thread!!

I'd much rather have a great quality flat glass than a POS curved one any day.If i find one i'll certainly post it. Please do the same if you find one. I guess i could take some measurements and see what i can find from other devices...although the strange length of this screen I probably wouldn't have much luck.
I ordered the flat one listed on ebay. Honestly, it doesn't look like it'll be very good - square corners, just looks subpar, BUT I bet it will at least stay on the display properly. I bought two of them, they are shipped from Canada and with shipping the 2 came out to be $12 total. I will report back when I have one on. I am sure there will be more/better options for a flat only area tempered screen protector as time goes on. For now hopefully this does the job well enough.
It seems xtremeguard.com sells it flat only and full protection as well.

Ahh, OK. Thanks. You should install anyways since you have it. Flat tempered are the only kind of tempered that work on the curved edge displays. Unless you are planning on sending it back.

Uses a UV cured adhesive for full curve screen. I've never seen any protector like it before. Have one on order as well to try it out.
Hi XDA community,
I wanted to share my thoughts on the olixar TGSP for the S8+. I am from Australia, and let's say that our choice of accessories in the market is less than stellar for any new phone launched.
As many of us here, I got my S8+ around 3 months ago and I was looking for any reviews that would point me into the right TGSP knowing how hard it was to get one that worked for the s6 and s7.
I saw some good reviews about the Olixar TGSP in youtube, so I ordered it from the UK. Costed around AUD$ 35 and it took 2 weeks! to arrive.
After 3 months of daily usage, I can say this:
Touch & Sensitivity 4/5 - Not as smooth as the glass underneath, but very responsive. Moderate fingerprint magnet, but hey which glass protector isn't.
Durability 5/5 – This has survived 2 pocket high drops and for 3 months this has come in and out of my jean pockets without a scratch.
Clarity 3.5/5 - Pretty clear. This one has the dot matrix which is mostly invisible and only seen when you reflect some light at some angles. I have used this with the new gear VR and you can't see the dots unless you try really hard.
Aesthetics 1/5 - For such an expensive and sweet looking phone, this protector makes it looks like crap. I bought the clear version and you can see the glue strips all around the glass. I think I would have equally disliked the one that has black top and bottom since you will still see the glue on the side.
Case Compatibility - I won't give a rating on this since I have only tried it on Spigen Tough Armor and UAG Monarch without issues. After all this case is sold as case friendly and a lot of compatibility info is out in the net.
TLDR
Decent and durable glass protector for your S8+, but if you care much about how your phone looks, I would look for something else.
I believe most TGSPs I have seen would be similar to the Olixar. I have seen some protectors that have covered the adhesive with black all around, but I think that beats the purpose of having an edge screen.
Also, I really want to try the Whitestone dome, but for that price I would rather have a cheaper and easier to install solution. I have read too many comments about how they have failed the application and it is really not an option for me down here in Australia where we have to get it from the UK and limited customer support if anything goes wrong.
I guess I will give the IQ Shield or the Armorsuit a try if I could find them sold here in the land of koalas.
Hello Pandasonic01, this is Whitestone.
Thank you for taking interest in our product.
I'm sorry that people feel that way about our product.
I know the price may not be cheap, but there are many advantages that comes along with it, such as aesthetics that you mentioned in your post.
Whitestone Domeglass is available in Austrailia through variety of channels and we are currently working on making it more available.
As for customer support, you can also always contact us here (through thread or PM) or find us on facebook.
We are always supporting customer feedback through our facebook message channel. Please search whitestone dome glass through the facebook. You can find our official Facebook channel and could contact us.
Please feel free to contact us.
Thanks again for taking interest in our product and feel free to contact us anytime.
Thanks for the reply whitestone dome. A quick google only gives me mobilezap which ships from the UK.
I read in another thread here that you were working on an easier installation process. I think i will wait for that since my mild OCD would not let me live with any tiny bubbles under the glass.
Kudos to you for being so active in these forums
I have added some images to this post to highlight the ugliness I was referring to.
