Blinking LED, doesn't charge, can't get into fastboot - Desire 820 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
First of all - yes, I am completely aware that there are MANY similar threads, I've spent almost 3 hours now finding solution, no luck. I hope some good soul out there will be able to shed some light on my case So here it is:
Today, I was caught in a bad moment with low battery, and the phone discharged completely and turned off. I've connected it to the charger just about 5 mins later max, but the blinking LED of death got me there I have it on a charger for about 4-5 hours now (original HTC charger, of course tried both, the wall and the usb), the LED is still blinking, phone is cold (it's getting quite hot when it's charging normally), no reaction whatsoever, can't even enter any fastboot or recovery or anything. I've tried every possible combinations I have found, vol+ & power, vol- & power, both volumes & power, long, short, nothing helps. Now what's different than any other threads out there? The phone was NEVER rooted, I didn't unlock bootloader, flash, nothing. It was as stock as it could be since I had motherboard replaced (2 years ago, on warranty in HTC service). Now the warranty has ended, so I'm really hesitating to send it there, as it's propably gonna end up with new motherboard again, no matter what the problem really is (I live in Poland, and that's just a common "fix" no matter what the problem is). Current motherboard is the one with CID B25 (the one that never got any update, so it's stuck on Kitkat for 2 years now). Everything was working completely fine just a few hours ago, nothing indicated any battery problems, it just discharged, and now I can't get it to work.
Does anyone have any helpful ideas?
Thanks in advance

Hello Scar9,
I had the same problem. To fix it, I had to charge my phone for 30 minutes. After that, I remove the back cover (to access to the battery). I connected the phone to my PC and I disconnected the battery. I wait any seconds (maybe 10 seconds) and I reconnected my battery (still the phone connected). The screen display a law charge of my battery (around 5 percents) but I can start my phone. After that I fully charged it and all seems OK !
I hope that can help you.
Regards.

Have you got any solution for this problem.
I too have same problem..

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to revive an HTC Desire 820 (dual-SIM model) that I have. There were several hardware issues with the phone - main one being the battery _completely_ blown and bulged out! So, I replaced the battery, along with the complete battery charging board, and the complete LCD display (which was also gone!)
Now, the issue I'm facing is, even after replacing 3 of the major parts with new ones, the handset is just not coming back to life! The red/orange LED on the front just keeps blinking (indicating that the mainboard is still working) but the phone simply does not respond to any combination of buttons, or even when I connect it to my laptop!
My core question is: Do I really need to have the _original_ HTC charger and USB charging cable (both of which I don't have) to get this thing up again?
If I can get some help and some clues as to what exactly is wrong here, I'll be really, really, REALLY thankful to you...!!!
Thanks a ton in advance!

Empty DHD not charging, not powering on, no led.

Hello people
A couple of hours ago, my phone shut down due to empty battery. I came home, plugged it in and booted it, all was fine. At about 60% I shut it off and went to have lunch, when I came back and tried to turn it on, I couldn't.
Led was orange at the time, I unplugged the power cord but the led stayed on! I removed the battery to be able to reboot it, but when I re-inserted it I still wouldn't boot.
Now no matter how I try to charge it, led stays off like it's not charging. Tried various different cables/chargers, the same. Tried to plug it to the charger without battery but no led flashed. Tried to boot without sim/sd card, still the same.
Any ideas?
My battery has never been changed (for a year now) and has had a bunch of full drains. Could this be a dead battery? :/
Well seems the phone is fried... I tried two more official batteries and no go...
Sorry to hear it. I thought that at first when I read your thread but I thought because I am not the most experienced person here, there might be some kind of fix.
HTC will most likely if not certainly replace this handset for you, seeing as it just happened out of the blue.
Well I certainly hope so, problem is I suspect it's an import (from another European country) and local HTC service generally does not do well with European imports.
Anyway I'll give it a try, meanwhile I'm getting a sensation soon
I have a similar problem.
I'm lucky that my girlfriend has the same handset as I do, the I could compare the phone abnormal behavior tho that of her properly working phone.
The first thing I've noticed, after a while when the charger was attached, was that the phone is very hot and that the battery keeps draining out in a surprisingly high rate.
After a while I've noticed that even when the phone is turned off it wont recharge. Sometimes the Orange LED is on when recharging while it is off, and the LED stays on for a few seconds after removing the charger, as if it was still charging. Note that the affects of connecting the charger to the phone, are mainly the ones listed below (not necessarily altogether)
* The phone indicates as if it recharges.
* Going to an infinite loop of rebooting and crashing.
* Getting hot when power supply is plugged, or at any time when the phone is turned on.
Ultimately the battery was empty, and the only way I had to keep using the phone (mostly to diagnose the symptoms listed here) was to swap the battery with the one of my girlfriend's device, and charge my battery in her device while using her's. That's the place to mention that the battery works just fine and that the phone is draining any battery, no matter what.
I took it apart to have a closer look at the source of all of the heat emitted while the phone is turned on, and it seem to come from the motherboard itself.
That's all I have.
The worst thing is that a friend of mine who helped me opening it up broke the pcb of the volume keys. Now I checked and It turns out that that pcb is actually part of the flex cable, which sort of extension of the motherboard and is mainly the second most important piece of hardware of all the phone parts (not that there are so many). If I would be able to expose the conductors inside the flat cable I might be able to solder an alternative volume pad I'll make out of old some miniature switches I have. The cable is very thin. any Ideas of how to expose the relevant conductors without ripping the cable apart?
Just a (late) update:
It's been almost two years, I had given the phone to a close friend of mine after a couple of weeks since writing the first post, just in case he could resurrect it, nothing.
Then, a couple of months down the road, the phone suddenly woke up! He tried to connect it with the charger, after months of not being able to charge or boot it up and somehow it worked. And it has been working flawlessly ever since.
I just got it back to give to my girlfriend until her sensation is fixed, flashing Viper now
In case something like this happens to any of you, don't give up!

[Q] Bricked DHD, QHSSUB_DLOAD ?

My Desire HD (original Rom, never rooted or done anything fancy) died while connected to a solar charger overnight.
- factory reset (volume down + pwr button) does nothing.
- removed battery, tried other battery, put it on a "real"charger, different cable, nothing works; the thing is dead.
- Charging light does not turn on (checked voltages, battery voltage, everything is good)
- The only thing it does, is register as "QHSUSB_DLOAD" when connected to my PC.
I suspect the charging / power ciruit got fried (it was a solar charger that I tried for the first time), but the fact that it had been charging fine during day (sun) and it died during the night, and the fact that it still does _something_ when connected to USB keeps me from throwing it in the bin.
So my question to you experts is:
Does the fact that it connects as QHSUSB_DLOAD mean anything promising for restoring it?
And if so, what would be the recommended steps for fixing it (preferably myself).
I've never rooted a phone, wouldn't know where to start (other than here), but I'm not exactly an idiot and there's a first time for everything.
O yeah, I've already voided warranty by opening it up and partially dis- and re-assembling it. I'm always amazed how many times that fixes a problem; though not this time...
Looking forward to some positive answers..
I believe that has something to do with accessing the processor chip and I don't think it's fixable without changing the motherboard. You could try sending it back for warranty repair and just hope they don't notice you've taken it apart. The don't always notice especially if all the screws/parts are where they should be. Good luck.

Buy some aftermarket void stickers, slap them on the phone and send it in for repairs.
How long have you tried charging it for?
Give it a charge over night and see if it is doing something in the morning (charge it on a real charger
Yeah, tried charging it overnight, but nothing happens.
Is there anything that can be done when it's in the QHSUSB_DLOAD mode? Uploading new firmware, for instance?
I bought a replacement phone (HTC One S), so I'm ready to experiment on my DHD..

[Q] Bricked phone or battery?

Hi,
So my girlfriend just got given a used HTC Desire by a friend last monday. It was locked to Orange. Like all android based devices in this house, the first thing I did was unlock all the various bits, flash a decent rom, update the radio etc. and all was working fine all week including the battery dying totally at least once.
On friday, she had to do a 22 mile charity bike cycle for work (chump) and after she got home, she spoke on the phone for a while. Then the battery died. Now it's foobarred.
When I put it on charge, light doesn't come on straight away (hinting usb-brick)
Eventually the light comes on and goes orange.
It then goes green
When I press the power button, the green light goes off and NOTHING happens.
I can't get it to connect to the PC at all.
But since I can't boot it, I can't get into recovery, I can't get the PC to see it so can't use ADB.
I've tried all sorts of combinations of removing the battery, leaving it charging for hours, leaving it with the battery, sim and microSD removed for hours and can't seem to get any life out of it.
The phone looks fine, the water indicators are all still white. My only ideas aside from some catastrophic failure on one of the boards is maybe it's the battery that's shorted itself or something. Does the Desire turn on at all when plugged in with a fudged battery?
Anyone else had a similar problem? Any ideas on how to fix it? Phone or battery?
I'm trying to hunt down someone with a HTC Desire at work so I can test their battery with it - is there any chance this phone could make an expensive paperweight from another battery too?
Thanks in advanced.
Hi.
Maybe the battery, in his last breath, overcharged some circuits and burnt them. But I hope not for you. If the red light/green light works, it means at least that some of the circuit is working so continue your chase and find yourself another battery for testing.
Try and test the battery with a multimeter just to be sure ! Also what about charger was it original htc one ?
Did you ever sort it out?

Did you got this solved? I've got myself a new phone (giveaway ) and gave my Desire to my wife. I could flash another hboot and back to cm7 without any issues, she configured her google acc etc and put it onto charger over night. But it didnt charged. On yesterday morning it then died cuz of empty battery and dont come back now...

[Q] HOX w/ possibly semi-dead battery

We had a power surge in this house while my HOX was charging... I'm guessing that's what caused the problem.
Unfortunately I bought it outright, 2nd hand, about 7 months ago. So can't get it replaced or repaired for free. It's been trouble-free until about a week ago.
Phone is rooted, has been upgraded/running Jellybean ROMs successfully; originally an Optus branded HTC One X (Australia).
The Problem:- so by default, if I charge it (with solid red LED on) while it's off, at random intervals with no user intervention, it'll boot to the boot screen, and then turn itself off to a black screen a few moments later. This will continue at random intervals of say... 30 minutes or so. Strange huh. Oh yeah, and when I try to boot the phone manually, it does the same thing. Annoying.
I can still get into HBOOT/Fastboot using power+voldown... and from there recovery. So I thought - okay... I can fix this. But upon booting, no matter how long I charge it while it's off, it complains that the battery is too low to flash. So I've been charging it in recovery for hours before flashing successfully.
So I've flashed a couple of different JB ROMs (such as Ordroid/Black Pearl) with their associated boot.img files properly (the way I always had before, i.e. before flashing the ROMs, and w/ fastboot erase cache etc), and each time it'll boot up into the newly flashed ROM fine, then I'll charge it up to full (green LED). But upon rebooting the phone, it goes back to it's initial behavior of going to the boot screen, then a few moments later going to the black screen and staying there (with red LED on). And then when I boot it with power+voldown... it complains the battery is too low to flash, even though fully booted and working it was saying it was 100% charged just a few moments before (having previously left it for hours to charge up to full). I've tried 2 genuine HOX chargers and cables, with no change in behaviour, and have searched threads about this kind of thing in this forum, to no avail.
I suspect the power surge has killed the battery somewhat , though I really don't know for sure.
Or is this a PEBCAK problem... could easily be... I'm sure I could've stuffed up somehow without realising.
Fixing this phone isn't critical, as I'd already moved on to a Nexus 4, however I had been intending to give this phone to my brother before it started misbehaving... so if anyone knows how I should proceed, I'd most appreciate any guidance.
Thanks.
It's a bit difficult to say whether it's the battery or the actual mainboard which got damaged.
There's only one way to find out, purchase a new battery and see. You can sell the battery if it doesn't work.

HTC One X Won't Turn On or Charge :(

Hi Guys,
I am having a serious problem with my HTC One X, it doesn't turn on (I have tried long pressing the power button and long pressing the power button + Vol Down combo) and it doesn't charge (the LED indicator doesn't turn on).
Perhaps it will help if I explain what happened before this:
I was on a train watching an episode of a TV show, a 720p MKV file, in MX Player, when I noticed that my battery was at around 50%, nothing unusual yet. So I decided to bring out my external battery pack and charge my phone. The external battery pack has a capacity of 7800mAh and has two USB outputs, one is labelled as 1A and the other in labelled at 1.5A. The night before I had tried charging my phone from both outputs, and to my surprise, my phone told me it would take 2 hours to charge when it was plugged into the 1A output, and 3 hours to charge when it was plugged into the 1.5A output.
Anyway, after I plugged my phone into the battery pack, I continued watching this video on MX Player. For some strange reason, the video crashed, it stayed at the same frame, even though MX Player told me that the video was still playing and the time was moving forward. I thought this was strange so I decided to rewind a few seconds. The animation that comes up on MX Player when you move forwards or backwards showed up - [10:00] - 5 seconds, (or something like that). The video file stayed on the same frame. I cant remember if the phone turned off by itself, but what might have happened was that I held the power button for upwards of 10 seconds and then it turned off.
At first, I thought that my phone had crashed and would just reboot, as had happened to me a few times previously.
What is strange is that my phone was on around 50% charge, so I don't know why it wouldn't turn on again.
The end result was that my phone was dead, it wouldn't charge or turn on. The red LED indicator to show that it was charging did not turn on. I tried holding the power button for upwards of 10 seconds, but nothing happened, the three lights at the bottom of the screen didn't blink. I tried holding the power button and volume down button for upwards of 10 seconds, but nothing happened here either.
I bought the HTC One X in July of last year on Three UK, so it has been more than 1 year since I bought the phone, but less than 2 years, so I am not sure if I am still covered under warranty, as I already had it fixed once, earlier this year.
In addition, my phone is rooted and on a custom rom, the latest CM10.1.2 stable build to be precise. I'm pretty sure this voids my warranty, however, my phone is dead, so perhaps the repair guys won't be able to work out that I was on a custom rom.
I appreciate any help and advice that you guys can give me!
Thank you so much,

Well first of all they will figure out ,when they boot the phone, that you voided it and secondly does the phone over heat because that could have had anything to do with it and ,especially since your in the uk, You should have got a secondary warranty like
HTML:
protectyourbubble.com
But now the best you can do is buy the warranty and wait a month as thats the minimum and then tell them that your phone has broke they will then fix it or give you a replacement...OR what you have done is burn out the battery the best option for this is to replace it but then again these are your choices insurance, or battery

You say that they will figure out I voided the warranty when they boot the phone, however, the problem is that I am unable to boot the phone. If I sent my phone in to repair to Three UK, would that be the best possible option? I have done some research and I have two years of warranty.

Would I still be able to get my phone repaired for free?

Battery failure is a hardware fault...MOST places will accept a return even if your bootloader is unlocked and custom ROM's installed since the software has little effect on an out and out hardware failure.
Secondly, if the phone will not boot there is no danger of them even getting that far.
Lastly, if it is still under warranty, return it for repair/replacement.
It was likely your external battery pack that has killed your phone.

Thanks so much for your help!
I had a little ordeal with Three UK the last time my phone broke. My screen died, which was clearly a hardware fault, however, they wanted to charge me ~£80 because I had unlocked the bootloader. I called them many times, but the customer service was a pain in the ass, and in the end they dropped the charge to ~£40, even though I had told them repeatedly that it was a hardware problem. In the end, the phone they returned to me 'after fixing' still had a dead screen, so they gave me a refurbished replacement for free (after calling customer service)
If they fix the battery, perhaps by replacing it, will my phone boot then? Because if it does, surely they will see that I am rooted and on a custom rom?
Out of curiosity, how would my external battery pack kill my phone? Would 1.5A kill my phone? I think 1A is what the voltage should be.
Thanks,

Well Amps and Volts aren't the same thing.
And the HOX will only accept a maximum input of 1A anyways, regardless of the output of the charger. But if your charger surges enough you can burn out that charging circuit.
Now...an external battery pack charger operates similarly to a universal mains charger in that it can provide a range of voltage, amperage and wattage outputs. You will want to make sure your external pack is capable of providing the correct voltage and amperage output. In the case of the HOX (and about a million other things) it's 5V @ 1A. So it is very likely to be compatible.
BUT...SOME external packs HAVE been known to surge and completely overload the charging circuit of the device(s) connected. I am not sure of brands or anything like that, but it's generally a result of poor internal design and or/components, and it SOUNDS like that is exactly what happened.
If 3 UK are being b*stards i'd dig out the actual paperwork warranty and have a look see at the T&C's. Who is liable for what, when, and how much.

If 3 UK are being b*stards i'd dig out the actual paperwork warranty and have a look see at the T&C's. Who is liable for what, when, and how much.

Voltage thrills, current kills
I bought my external battery pack at some market stall, so I can believe that it may have been faulty. However, having said that, my HOX was able to charge the previous night from both 1A and 1.5A outputs.
What story should I tell Three UK when I contact them to ask them to repair my phone? Last time my display broke, I told them that it was a hardware fault, but they basically ignored me and told me something else (they were being complete wankers) -_- and tried to charge me anyway
What will they do if they fix the phone? Will they replace the battery? And if they do, will they be able to boot and see that I have rooted?
Thanks,
~DarkyHero

Firstly, stop bumping. Grinding is far superior
OK, so it seems to me that you bought some crappy Chinese half made battery pack, which lasted all of one day before turning into a raving phone killer.
Seems to me your battery is fried, not your internal components and probably not your NAND, but I don't have a good knowledge of how the HOX is engineered to handle very high surges. I have no idea if all your internal stuff is fried too.
Contact 3 and see if they will replace for free. If not go to a normal repair shop and ask for a full diagnostic + repair. That way they can't charge you for a procedure that doesn't fix your phone.
Good Luck and let us know what happens

No, it was a really nice battery pack, 7800 mAh battery pack with an aluminium case. And the guy selling them was charging his Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on one of them, and even let me charge my phone on it. Before I left with the battery pack, he made me charge my phone with it to check that it worked, and it did.
Are you sure about full diagnostic + repair? How much would that cost?
Guys, what part(s) do you think are broken with my phone?
If it is just the battery, I might consider buying one and replacing it myself.

Hi Guys,
I am having a serious problem with my HTC One X, it doesn't turn on (I have tried long pressing the power button and long pressing the power button + Vol Down combo) and it doesn't charge (the LED indicator doesn't turn on).
Thank you so much,
~DarkyHero

Hi
I`ve had this problem a number of times
Simple fix - plug into your pc - hold power button and down volume button for 15 seconds - the low screen will flash a few times - then plug back into the power supply - check to see if red light flashing and leave for 10 mins - then power up - be warned, let it charge up before using or will crash again
Same thing just happened to me now except that I was just playing Candy Crush and noticed around 51% battery, all of the sudden game froze and tried to reboot a couple of times but didn't work and finally phone got completely turn off and couldn't turn it back on, when I plug it in for charge no charging indication
Same problem here: One X doesn't turn on, not even charging indication. Still, the phone gets a bit warm when connected to the wall charger - so there is a charging current, but with no effect..?!
Is there a known solution to this problem? Exchanging battery/logic board/...?
UPDATE: Changing the logic/mother board did the trick for me. Now I'm back with a working phone, but all the data is lost. Just exchanging the battery or some other part (like power button) did not suffice in my case (tried everything).
