Hello every one!
I got my 5th gen refurbished kindle fire about a week ago, and I'm using it as a head unit in my car. I've spent a lot of time on these forums getting every thing set up just how I want it and I am on my last snag that I can't get figured out.
I want to be able to share GPS from my phone to my fire so I can use an offline navigation app(OsmAnd or Mapfactor).
I tried following this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362472&nocache=1
But I don't think it's really applicable because I am using CM12.1 and can enable mock location in developer options.
Anyways, I can NOT get a clean GPS share for the life of me. I have tried TetherGPS app, GPS Tether app, and Bluetooth GPS/GPS2Bluetooth apps.
I CAN get GPS with FOUR apps running: GPS Tether(Bluetooth options on both phone/tablet) AND Gbluetooth GPS(tablet) + GPS2Bluetooth(phone)
or GPS Tether(Hotspot/wifi options) + TetherGPS on both.
So it WILL work with FOUR apps running, but that's it! And it is finicky at best. I would really like to have this connection be automated if possible, if any one could provide some incite I would appreciate it!
Info:
5th Gen, 6GB, 7" Fire HD Tablet Android 5.0.1
CM 12.1
SuperSu Root
Pico Gapps
Oh rats, apparently the unlabeled kindle fire thread is just fire kindle fire 1. Whoops, if a mod wants to move my thread for me that would be cool
Sorry

Hey guys. Long time lurker and big fire phone fan. Right now I'm running 4.6.1 US Unlocked Fire OS on my ATT locked Fire phone. Without having to root *as I don't trust kingroot to have full unlimited access to my phone* is it possible to steam from Fire Phone to Chromecast? Not opposed to side loading gapps if required. Thanks!

Yes this is working with the gaaps even cast your screen is playing but I think the fire TV Stick is a much better product you can sideload apk and play xbmc/kodi on it
And if you Wont GApps. Patch only YouTube
Sure that Chromecast ist working? The app is working but i am not possible to get a connection to the chromecast. Any ideas?

Fire phone working with Chromecast (audio)
I bought a bunch of Fire phones when it was selling on a fire sale! They all have been working fine with side loaded Google setup files (framework, play store etc). There were some good instructions to load four Google system files. Some occasional app may say this phone is not compatible and not allow you download from the Play Store, but those individual apps will work just fine side loaded.
Anyway, the Chromecast app downloaded fine from the Play Store, but would not connect properly with my Chromecast audio device for the initial set up. It recognized the device okay, but will not finish the initial set up. I thought I was out of luck. But then I tried with a proper (non-Fire) android phone and completed the initial set up. It connected the Chromecast device with the appropriate wifi network, downloaded the updates etc. and told me it was ready to cast. After that, I tried with the Fire phone, and voila.. everything has been working just fine.
I am sure you have some non-Amazon Android device you have lying around the house, or at least borrow for a while. Just complete the initial set up with that and you should be good to go.
I have done this only with Chromecast Audio (The newer version), but I am reasonably sure the same should work just fine with the video Chromecast too.
I use Chromecast all of the time with my Fire Phone (ATT 4.6.5.) Just works great along with all of the gApps... but who knows if that will be the case as the gApps get updated over time. For ATT versions, the 4.6.5 release was great in terms of being gApps friendly. If that changes down the road, then the next best option would be Slimkat or CM11.
I fact, I have both a Fire Stick and a Chromcast on the same TV, and the phone has more Chromecast options from within apps than FireStick casting options. Overall, I prefer using the Firestick with it's physical remote, but it is not as well integrated with android apps at the moment. Hopefully more developers will start using "fling" casting, but right now my main option is sharing a stream with Allcast.
Youtube works good for me. Pandora does also. Netflix Doesn't connect for me though. I highly reccomend the fire stick...
New Fire stick received today. Installed the Fire Remote app on my iPad, it just keeps searching for Fire devices and hangs forever. Both the Fire stick and iPad are on the same wifi network, and ran the latest software update on the stick. Anything I can do to get this working? Tried on my iPhone, same result.
Maybe do a factory reset on the Fire stick.
By the way, can you confirm if the new fire stick has updated specs compared to the first model?
I feel mine is too slow and want to update.
Hi i have downloaded the Amazon Fire TV Utility App and i have added the ip from the Amazon Fire stick and CMD came up saying it had connected, i have then tried to load the settings.apk using the Amazon Fire TV Utility App but all i am getting is a CMD with this in it error: device offline followed by -waiting for device-
The Fire Stick is turned on and i have tried turning off my firewall and still the same problem.
Hi I managed to get it installed on the Fire Stick by running Amazon FireTV Utility App as administrator, i can now see the settings app on the fire stick and when i launch it i can see the Bluetooth option but if i click on it the app just closes it does this on what ever option i click in the settings app.
I am assuming you are on OS5.
Make sure you have the proper IP address (in FireTv Utilities app settings) for your box/stick then go in Settings/ Developer Options/and turn off and on ADB debugging two ot three times ....should work now.
Thank you for your reply i tried what you recommended but it still launches and then closes as soon as you select an option.
I'm also seeing the same thing. I've installed the settings.apk, but everytime I click on any entry, it kicks me out...
why do you need this settings.apk? what are you needing to change / use it for?
I have loaded Kodi on my fire stick and some of the apps require mouse support to navigate so i want to buy a bluetooth air mouse and all tutorials say you need to load the settings.pka and use the bluetooth options from with in that.

You don't need it.
FireOS 5 has better bluetooth support.
Here is my pairing of my Apple MagicTrackpad to the FireTV Stick (note the MagicMouse from 08 will not pair - Apple issue)
You can see me pair, pin is 0000, and the mouse cursor is that smallish circle in Kodi. The stock launcher has no mouse support, but FireStarter does.
Hi so all i need to do is get a Apple MagicTrackpad and it will work ?

I'm sure there are better Bluetooth nice to use. I just paired what is laying around. The drivers that the firetv has don't support tap to click on it so I have to click the touch pad which isn't easy unless it's on a table.
You will likely be able to use almost any Bluetooth mouse with the firetv.
I wouldn't recommend the apple trackpad for firetv usage.
The android mouse toggle app has worked well enough for me that I don't even bother with pairing a mouse.
Hi i just got the Mouse Toggle app and it finds my Amazon stick and connects everything is enables and at the bottom it says status started but on my phone it just says done at the bottom and there is no controls or anything. I have enclosed a screen shot. Thanks again for your help.
Thank you i have it all working great now.
Hi,
I wonder if someone can answer a quick question for me. I currently have two Fire TV 1's and a Fire TV stick. All have the old Firestopper app installed where the home button continues to take you to the Firestarter interface, unlike the new version. They've all been blocked from firmware updates. My question is this. I need another FIre TV box and it looks like I'll be getting a 2nd generation Fire TV. Can someone tell me if the latest build on the Fire TV 2 continues to work with the old Firestopper app, as I was going to sideload it because it continues to be incredibly useful, but only with the home button function working. If the latest build for the Fire TV 2 prevents that, I'd rather know before buying one.
Thanks for any help provided.
Unfortunately, the firestopper app no longer works with the newer firmware, which is on at new model fire tv box or stick that u buy.
I found out, it does work, but it's not quite as useful anymore since double clicking on the home button brings up the app menu anyway, but you can still run firestarter, although it's kind of redundant as it just brings up another app menu. On the upside, it still does allow you to install Kodi without having to sideload it. Fortunately my older Fire devices still work with Firestarter and the new one I purchased, I realized it's not as crucial anymore.
Thanks for responding,
I have a 1st gen unlocked fire tv that I use for cord cutting. I also have used it as a secondary cable box in the past for Xfinity TV.
I now have FIOS and the side sideloaded APK works fine with droidmote. However my issue is that any DVR program force kicks the app after a few minutes back to the DVR menu. I'm using SuperSU and rootlcloak (which once I used on FIOS TV it really didn't like it) because I haven't used it in almost a year until now. I have used the search function here and only one thread mentioned about using FIOS on a Fire TV, and I do not want to necrobump a year old thread.
Does hide my root work with FIOS? Or does magisk do the trick? Thanks No. Neither works and magisk will cause a bootloop
Bump for a last ditch attempt of any help.
