No WiFi on a refurbished G4, did T-Mobile screw me? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last week I shattered the screen on my G4 and ordered a replacement through my warranty. I got it today and went to unlock my bootloader immediately, flashed TWRP, and hopped on a custom rom, only to discover that I had no WiFi. Every other device in my house is connected fine so it's not the internet.
From there I figured it must've been a bad flash and used LGUP to flash the 20v kdz (the phone was already on it) so i could start over again with a new radio/modem. I didn't bother setting the phone up again and just rebooted into the bootloader to flash TWRP again, and proceeded to flash AEX again but with f2fs. Again, no WiFi. Thought it must be the rom and clean flashed AICP, no wifi. Clean flashed crDroid, no wifi.
At this point i got desperate and started messing with the wifi settings because a series of reboots could get me WiFi for a few precious seconds, maxing out at about a minute at one point.
Most of the time the WiFi wouldn't turn on at all but a reboot could fix it, but nothing would connect after putting in the password. Trying to manually connect would cause the Wifi to freak out and instantly connect/disconnect or give me a few seconds of wifi before it happened. Only a reboot or airplane mode would "fix" this before I'd have to start the process over again.
I also tried the "Turbo orthodox clean" which only resulted in me not having an internal storage partition and roms not flashing it until i had to kdz.
This happened on all the roms I tried today including an untouched stock after a kdz.
AFAIK I did everything by the book and i cant think of anything i could've done wrong to cause this. Could it be because i didn't boot up into the stock rom the first time i unlocked the bootloader? I did it the rest of the times that i had to kdz.
Wtf can I do at this point? I'm typing this on freshly kdz'd rom with nothing but xda labs installed on top and no settings changed. Could it be a hardware problem? Is it my f*ck up? Should I go through T-Mobile/the insurance again? All i can think to do now is take a full nandroid backup on the old phone and try restoring it on this one in the morning.

Woke up this morning and still had no WiFi, so I carried on with my day as usual. Got home after the gym, took a nap, and woke up to perfectly functioning Wifi
I haven't changed anything at all to fix this, just left the phone alone for ~10 hours. Rebooting didnt break it again either so I'm going to try my luck with crDroid

If it happens again check the MAC address of your phone in WiFi settings. You will get no connection when the MAC is all zeros which can e.g. happen on a bad flash.

Thanks, I do have the MAC and WiFi in crdroid but it took a reboot. NEVER MIND. It just went out as I typed that. I'm back to getting it for only a second after turning my WiFi on and off. I cleared my dalvic/cache a minute ago because my SD card showed up as corrupted to fix that, but now I lost the WiFi again. I went about an hour with WiFi but no mods or apps installed and it just went out after flashing magisk + 3 modules and restoring my apps from titanium backup so I'm going to try undoing those one by one to see if that's it

Need support from Virgin Mobile, want to return to stock

I have an issue where everything works fine on my rooted Stock ROM except the 3g.
Previously I had rooted this device (before I activated), kept everything stock except I wanted to be able to make backups with TWRP and to run Adaway so I didnt have ads everywhere. Everything was working fine on my wifi connection.
My older LG phone started having battery issues so I decided it was time to switch to the rooted HTC One V. Activated it, all seemed fine (phone works and wifi works) then I discovered the 3g is intermittent. I suspect there is something wrong at VM with my account because when I bought the next month's service after swapping phones on their site it remained at the old rate of $25. (should have gone up to $35).
This seemed great until i realized my 3g only seems to work 30% of the time, so I put in a support ticket and waiting on a return email or call.
ANYHOW, I'm guessing I'd be better off if I returned this phone to its original unrooted state before I deal with support. Is it as simple as relocking the bootloader then running the RUU on it?
In other words:
1. `fastboot oem lock`
2. Run the RUU
3. I'm good to go?
Or is there more?
TIA
To return to stock yeah that works. Bootloader will say relocked instead of locked though so that may cause some trouble with support but this is the closest you'll get to the state your phone was in when you received it.

You will also need to reflash the original stock recovery. I attached it for you (pulled from the RUU).

Ugh... It's not flashed when the RUU is run? I did have TWRP on there.
So far I:
-re-locked
-ran RUU
-booted into stock ROM.
So now I go into fastboot and:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img ??
HTC is confusing compared to my LG phone and my Kindle Fire Tablet Pardon my ignorance!
I think I resolved the issue myself, the email VM finally sent basically had me shut off wifi and run the stock diags for the 3g connection, which seemed to work about 20-30% of the time. It then had me manually do the ##847446# re-program which seemed to do nothing. it turned out it was all a waste and a silly SNAFU.
The errors I would get intermittently were:
Data Call Failure - Error Code 104
Data Call Failure - Error Code 129
Data Call Failure - Error Code 67
Mostly 104.
How did it get fixed? Well, it's now running 3g steadily for 30 minutes 6 hours now, before it was a minute tops before failure.
Apparently, I left the phone I had swapped out running, planning to use it around the house for various boring things. It had the same MSID and MDN obviously, and apparently this was causing conflicts whenever it tried to grab an IP address from Virgin Mobile. I fixed the issue by pulling the battery on the old phone I had swapped from.
Doh!
[edit] edited to verify it actually is fixed this time. So sick of fiddling with everything over the last 2 days.

WiFi not turning on?

Ok so a couple of days ago I installed a 4.0 ready radio on my galaxy s2 and then went on to install Jedi Knight 6 ROM (4.0.4 and radio is UVMC6) and after installation everything was working fine.. I was messing around for a while.. it worked today, I shut my phone off to charge it up real quick, and when I turned it back on my WiFi would not connect. Well not necessarly connect.. it just wont even turn on. When I go into settings and click WiFi, it just sits there saying, Turning WiFi on, and never changes.. I can't seem to imagine what could have happened to it, and I really dont wanna have to reinstall the ROM again because i just spent hours getting this one all set up to my liking...
Anyone got any ideas?
EDIT: BTW, I have tried many things.. Tried airplane mode to disable everything then turn it back on, obviously tried rebooting the phone, i have tried wiping cache in CWM recovery and also tried fix permissions in recovery (another topic said to try those..)
Nothing has worked so far, i'm about to try reflashing my radio, see if that works.. but I really really dont want to have to reflash my whole ROM.. So if anyone has any other ideas please help, i'll edit if the radio works..
EDIT 2: Reflashing the radio did nothing.. it's really wierd, the data, bt, gps.. all of it works fine, it's just the WiFi that's frozen turning on... cant get it to stop turning on and can't get it to actually turn on..
EDIT Final: Ok well, i guess nobody knows what might have been going on.. so I just wound up reflashing my ROM, which obviously fixed it.. i just had to lose all that time spent setting everything up... But oh well.. Kinda sucks nobody even tried to help..

+1 I'm going through the same thing now
I have been having this same issue as well. It started out as stock happening sporadically. One thread suggested rooting and removing my account. Problem still occurring. Tried flashing multiple ROMs and now WiFi hasn't connected at all always stuck at turning on. I have tried clear cache, fix permissions, as well as reinstalling ROM dirty and with factory reset. I'm hoping this isn't hardware failure because I just bought this phone used but it seems to be a reoccurring problem with others as well. Any NEW suggestions not given from quick Google/xda search?

I'd suggest to check your Wireless Access Point (modem or router) wireless settings for security, check and see if it's set to use WPA/WPA2, which is common on some modems/routers, change it to either WPA or WPA2 (preferred) not both, it's a known issue with WiFi networks and having it set to using both, I had the same problem before with my phone connecting to my WiFi.
Also if you use MAC Address Filtering on the modem/router, you should disable/clear that and let phone re-connect before enabling mac filtering again.

The problem I am having is not that it won't connect to a particular network. Wifi will not initialize on the device at all and is stuck in "Turning On..." state. I found more and more posts where people ended up having to send in to Samsung so I spoke with them and even though I purchased the phone used its thankfully still under warranty and they will be replacing it. The did not confirm whether or not it was a true known device issue but were quick to file the exchange for me.
sigh, me too!
Just started having this problem on 4.3.1
great.
In my case, I had to wipe system and data before reinstalling my ROM.
Though the only reason it was happening to me was because Beanstalk 4.4.2 didn't want to get past the splash screen when I tried to install it so I downgraded back to ICS 4.0.4 without wiping. Good luck getting this issue fixed. Also another kernel might fix thingz for you if your current one does not like your device.
I have a similar problem. After a while, WiFi gets disconnected. If I go in settings - wifi, i get the message "unfortunately, settings has stopped" and I can't get WiFi to work again until I reboot the phone. The Wifi works again for a couple of minutes then stops.
I have flashed various different ROM (CM11, PA) but keeps getting the exact same behavior.
I've rebooted in safe mode and I don't get the problem now.

[Q] Wifi Connection Issue

Welp here I am again. My note 3 is weird for some reason. Before I decided to flash a rom, I ran a stock rooted note 3. However, one day my school's wifi connection went haywire and it went down. After a day we discovered that the school just changed the password on the wifi. I figured the wifi password out and it didnt work. All it said was saved and secured. I am 100% sure I put in the right password because for every other student it works right now. And I know it's not the rom because this happened right before I flashed dompop. I tried using the wifi at home and at my tutoring place and they both worked. So is this a problem on their end? I also tried rebooting and forgetting the network. Also I CAN NOT REBOOT THE ROUTER because it's the schools and i might get arrested for climbing onto a desk to take the router off the ceiling LOL. Also I cant access the gateway to see if the bands that aren't working with my phone. I'm really frustrated because my peers are using the wifi and I cant even get on. Help Please

Since you did what I would suggest (forget router, and re-add) the next thing would be what you can't do. Unplug the router, and plug it back in. Maybe something in cache is stopping it. Try forgetting it again, and wipe cache, and then try it again.

Yes. I would wipe through recovery. Cleaning app cache probably wouldn't hurt either. You can either do it manually through the apps setting, or use an app itself like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.cache.cleaner

Sorry. I'm pretty much out of ideas. The only thing left is flash the ROM over again. Not from scratch (this time), but just dirty flash it right over the current ROM. If that doesn't work, and without being able to reset the router, the only thing left is to format the phone, and start again from scratch, and hope that works.

WIFI will not turn on

Hi guys i have a lg g3 that has been running fine on kitkat

Same issue here.
I get around it by forgetting network then just signing in again. Wifi works perfectly until I leave the house and return later. Then I just do the above and viola, working wifi.
I've checked with speed test app and wifi is definitely working.
Funny thing is, if I switch off wifi then turn back on it also works.
Only when ive left home and returned later does this bug arise.
Hello guys,
This thread is a little bit old, but I am curious to know if you found a workaround for this issue.
I have the same problem as the OP (not at the second poster): since I received Stock Lollipop the WiFi won't turn on. When I try to, it says "turning on" for a while then acts like it is off.
I just bought my LG G3, NCIX the reseller, refuses to refund me or replace my phone...
I performed several factory resets and tried to flash different KK stock Roms. The weird thing is that the WiFi works with KK...
Thanks for your help.
Identical experience here.
I recently got a D855 16GB, which was on stock unbranded V10a, jumped through several OTA updates through V10g, V10j, and V10k (IIRC) all with wifi working fine before getting the lollipop upgrade OTA for V20c.
Immediately wifi will not switch on - the switch itself is on, but with the off section a lighter grey compared to the bluetooth switch.
On the wifi screen itself it says "Turning Wi-Fi on..." but after a while the switch reverts to off.
It's now had OTAs to V20e and V20h, but wifi is dead on both versions.
Note that this is stock and unrooted (never rooted) so I can't believe it's something I've done. Next trick will be to root and poke around /data/misc/wifi.
Does bluetooth work or the problem is only with the wifi? I also have the same problem, wifi, bluetooth is not working and when I check in the settings the mac adress it says "unknown".

Unfortunately this isn't a unique problem. There have been countless bad updates from multiple manufacturers. In this litigious world, I'm surprised no one has sought damages for bad updates that effect usability.
I have the same problem from yesterday. wifi and bluetooth seem to be turning on but they never turn on. i've done many factory resets but it didn't work. has someone found a solution?
^^^ Exactly the same issue. Would love a solution!
Same issue. Tried Hard and soft reset and have also updated firmware using LG Mobile Support Tool but had no success.

ok, after 24h with this problem I think I got it back to working. Let me explain what have I done:
1. Mine is a dual sim model, that I bought in hong kong by the end of 2014.
2. Yesterday, I removed sim #2 (no longer needed), without removing the battery. I had a couple of messages indicating to restart the phone, blah blah. Can't remember if I finally restarted it or not.
3. This morning I saw no wifi connection in my phone, only 3G. Tried to start wifi in the quick access menu, but this kept blinking, never starting wifi. Restarting phone... nothing. turning off bluetooth... nothing.
I figured out that the problem had to be related with the SIM as this is the last thing I had done with the phone. Thus, I tried this, with success:
4. I turned off the phone, changed sim from slot #1 to slot#2 and started the phone. Wow, it worked for some minutes, then stopped, then started again. Well, a good sign.
5. Changed again sim from slot #2 to slot #1: Wifi working again. After some time it stopped working, but soon started again. Hasn't given me more problems (after only 30 min, that's true).
Hope it helps.

Got the same problem here. I have my G3 since november 2014 and recently I rooted it to install CM 13 on it and Xposed bcs I got tired of the laggy software of LG. One morning I woke up to drink some water and saw my phone restarting a lot of time... ok I thought its a simple bootloop. Tried to install CM again, didnt fix it. Flashed stock software and still... Bought new battery and new power flex and the problem is still there. I go into download mode, installed the software with LGs support tool and got pass the bootloop, but now wifi nor bluetooth works. I thought it's the software so I dared myself again to root it and installed TWRP and CM13, but it wouldn't boot. I installed then Liquidsmooth, based on CM13, and got it to boot up, but in the configuration menu where WiFi is needed to be added it couldn't turn on. I skiped it and in the middle of the process it started again to restart. I don't know if it's a hardware based problem or software... But I would like to try everything out before I have to buy a new phone.

No Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth and no FM Radio [D855]

I'll try to give as much information as possible.
Yesterday I was surfing the internet and suddenly my phone froze and randomly restarted. After that I wasn't able to connect to wifi nor bluetooth. I was running android 6.0 with 30B modem, rooted and with TWRP. After that I flashed Modem from v21C Firmware. I don't know if doing such was responsible for the next thing, but my Wi-fi mac adress and bluetooth adress disappeared from Hardware information. Note that my IMEI information did not disappear.
After that I did a full factory reset with .TOT method. That didn't solve my problem. Tried upgrading to lollipop, did not work. I've done like 10 factory resets only today, I've tried to fix persist partition following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/guide-to-fix-persist-partition-t2821576, same results.
In 4.4.2 and 5.0(all versions I tried from lollipop), both wi-fi and bluetooth adresses showed up as anavailable. Sometimes after rebooting, my phone would connect to wi-fi and show my mac adress, and would crash after 30 seconds..
On 6.0,my mac-adress shows as 02:00:00:00:00:00 and bluetooth adress as unavailable.. Need some serious help here, tried so much stuff nothing worked..
I'll attach some screenshots that may be useful
Any questions and any tries to help me are highly welcome.
Enjoy 6.0 on your phones and thanks for reading :fingers-crossed:

Adding some logs. Half a year passed, no solutions.
1 out of 100 reboots wifi works. I've gathered some logs of 1 of the moments wifi works. Hoping someone can figure something out. Tried lots of roms, nothing seems to work.
Forgot mentioning that both wifi and bluetooth show as trying to connect on notification bar, but when I go to settings and press on them, both say "turning on (wifi or bluetooth)" when the button is grayed out and off..

During the night, I removed the battery from the phone and booted my phone. After that Bluetooth would work, and Bluetooth adress would show up on "Hardware informations". Then, I turned off bluetooth and tried to put it back on. Bluetooth adress disappeared and my bluetooth would not turn on. Hope anyone helps..

I have an old twrp backup from boot and system partitions, do those contain them?
@myclarity while in twrp choose restore and check if your backup contain them
check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/efs-lg-g3-efs-backup-restore-t2907329

Also, forgot to say that, if I try to turn on wi-fi, if I connect my phone to my computer, computer will recognize I attached something and will start charging the phone, but I won't be able to transfer items to my phone since it won't appear anywhere on my pc..
Any questions and any tries to help me are highly welcome.
Enjoy 6.0 on your phones and thanks for reading :fingers-crossed:

I think I found a solution but I can't test it since I'm having problems connecting my phone to my PC ( another problem appeared..)
May I ask yo to install busybox and try this on adb?
adb shell
su
busybox iplink show wlan0
and see if it shows your real adress, if it does
busybox ifconfig wlan0 hw ether (adress)
busybox iplink show wlan0

I don't have my phone with me, sent it to repairing. Any news?
I'm having a very similar issue. Wifi and bluetooth won't turn on and cycle. On some reboots, Wifi will turn on but the phone will shut down shortly thereafter. I've tries several different ROM's and can fix the Wifi, but no the power not the shutting down.

I'm having the exact same problem but a bit worst. I can't even turn my phone on. Phone came back from repairing, guy couldn't fix it. Tried some rom's, many "fixes" from the internet, nothing. Seems like the only way to solve this will be by hardware..
exactly same problem with my g3 too
even i was using stock 30b firmware and after one week of usage it suddenly crashed and stuck in bootloop hence downgraded to lollipop and tried all roms, factory reset, different modems etc but still not fixed
waiting badly for an solution
I'm having pretty much the same problem, along with overheating and screen fading. I'm using stock Lollipop, never rooted. I've tried a factory reset and a new battery with no results.
Any solutions?
Guys I've sent my phone to a local repair shop and they said they took it to LG's official partner.. I've been waiting for a while and it doesn't look good.. A friend of mine bought a g3 recently. I suspect this problem comes from a corrupted or missing file. I'll ask him to help me on checking files if the local shop can't find a way to fix the phone. If everything fails, the only possible solution I see is a new main board or a new phone..
lg g3
