I'm looking for a phone for my father and need to narrow it down
Priorities (in order):
Fast
Battery
Good and simple(not in the way) software
reliable manufacturer, customer support, and warranty
Camera
Don't really care about:
Rootablity / devs
Build needs to be solid and decent, but doesn't have to be too "premium"
I'm probably also going to get my dad this phone just because of the battery life. I doubt performance will be an issue with the Moto Z Play tbh.
Just got the phone and I'm quite impressed with its speed (comming from a Moto Maxx, Droid turbo but unlocked international version) Battery life has been amazing, right now im at 70% with 2h 41m SoT and 2 hours of strava (been on for 13 hours)
Camera is WAY faster and in my opinion better (at least focus wise) than my Moto Maxx.
Cant complain about anything.
Performance wont be as good as one plus 3 because moto z play uses a 625 chip wich is a mid ranger chipset

U can't notice any difference in performance between these two ..i used both device ..& i can say z play run any app & game buttery smooth.. 0 lag
Want build quality than go for moto always
I've just got a z play as a work phone,and it was between it and the OP3
In the end the massive battery life won it for me, and tbh, compared to my Pixel xl, the speed difference is hardly noticeable in day to day use
Its certainly as fast as my colleagues OP3 that's for sure

The replies here are naturally biased towards the Moto Z Play. But since I had the same decision to make, tried both devices and ended up with the Moto Z Play, here is my feedback:

The OP3 is faster on paper and will beat the Moto Z play in just about any benchmark. If you're looking into 60fps gaming at ultra high settings over the next years, your search has to end here: the OP3 wins.
That said, the Snapdragon 625 is an amazing SoC and the Moto Z Play is not only blazing fast, it stays cool under just about all conditions. It's fast, really fast and never throttles. Most reviews will tell you that during regular use, any difference in speed to the current SD 820/821 flagships is almost imperceptible and they are absolutely right. So if day-to-day performance is a something you worry about: don't. Both phones master just about every smartphone task without breaking a sweat. The Moto Z Play is absolutely buttery smooth - always. It's also a perfectly capable gaming machine and there is no current game it can't play, but it will dip below 60fps if you crank up the details on the most demanding titles.

No competition, the Moto Z Play is a battery monster - maybe the best on the market right now. It is effectively impossible to drain it in a single day of use. It will completely change the way you think about battery life and charging habits - it's an incredibly relaxing experience because battery life becomes a total non-issue with this phone. Do whatever you want with the phone all day and hook it up at night or quickly in the morning and you'll be good. Forgot to charge it one night? Not a problem, you'll still make it through the next day.
The OP3's battery life is fine, pretty much like any other flagship phone these days. You'll make it through the day most days but probably have to top it off once or twice on particularly demanding days. Luckily that's easily done via dash charge - it charges faster than just about any other phone.

Both are great and offer a stock-like experience. Moto is closer to stock Android, uses Google apps just about everywhere and offers the better, hardware-aided features. It's a Nexus-like experience with some very well thought out enhancements. Moto Display is to this day the best implementation of an ambient display by a wide margin. The worst thing about it: once you get used to it, it's really hard to ever go back to a non-Moto device - it's that great.

Both devices offer excellent build quality, with the Moto Z Play having less known issues and a (historically) better quality assurance. But it hasn't been out long enough to say this for certain.
Both manufacturers offer terrible customer service if something goes wrong. OnePlus may be a little worse, but that's debatable and things may have even turned. Don't expect a great experience if you need to make use of the warranty.

Both offer good cameras, but they can't compete with current flagships. They take excellent pictures under good conditions and suffer under low light. The OP3's camera is slightly better but not by much.
The things you'll get with the OP3: better, theoretically more future proof specs.
The things you'll get with the Moto Z Play: "Never even think about it again" battery life, Moto Display, Moto Gestures, Moto Mods, Moto Voice (all brilliant hardware features that can't be replicated by software on the OP3), expandable storage.
The One Plus 3 is better on paper but Moto Z Play will offer likely the same real-world performance which MUCH better battery life.
I'm glad I got this bad boy today. Returned that crappy V20 I had and got the droid force edition. Bigger battery and better camera. So far so good. Mine even came with the Incipio extended battery moto mod.
I had the OP3 and this seems better so far. Runs just as fast with ZERO LAG. Motorola did good with this device.

Maximum brightness for both is similar, the OnePlus 3 is slightly brighter. Neither AMOLED display is as bright as your typical IPS display but outdoor brightness hasn't been a real issue for me with either one.
If outside brightness is truly important to you, look into phones with IPS panels.
I currently have a 64GB OnePlus One and I am thinking about replacing it with a P2. For me it seems that the positives in doing so are...

I have almost convinced myself, but I am not quite there yet. Has anyone else gone from the OPO to this? If not, what phone did you move from? Do you still see it as a worthwhile move? Can you add anything to the arguments for or against making the change?

I moved to the P2 from the Huawei Honor 8. The main reason that i moved to the P2 is because of it's battery. Truly has been amazing. I've been using it for a few weeks now and I have not faced any issues. I am a heavy user and the 4 GB ram + the SD 625 chipset have been handling everything that I do on the phone quite well. The storage is adaptable as I've seen the option available. The metal design is not only good but feels quite solid as well. I have used the Lenovo Zuk Z1 a little while ago which has the same 801 chipset as on the OPO phone that you have and you are right, performance wise on a day to day basis, the 625 is pretty reliable. The amoled screen on the P2 is pretty awesome. I am not an expert on screens but I have come to prefer amoleds over lcds, IPS screens etc. So yes, personally for me, it has been a worthwhile move. I switch and change phones quite regularly. But I am thinking of keeping the P2 for while longer than most of the other phones that I've used so far.
Had an Moto x2014. Uses 801 chip. Had a 1080p amoled. I can confirm no obvious performance difference. If anything the p2 seems slicker. Battery is a massive win. Screen is brighter than Moto x2014. Not used opo1 tho.
I've upgraded form Oneplus 3 and it was worth it, battery life is amazing over 12hours sot, color calibration is different, fast charging is quicker 25watts over 20 in Oneplus 3, Android is snappy and all games that I was playing on op3 run smoothly on p2. Op3 has better sound quality on headphones, on p2 sound is OK by using blackplayer ex and built-in equalizer or poweramp+eq. and p2 has a Fm radio with record option but mine only works in mono, build quality is similar, camera definitely is better in op3, but I don't make too much photos so for me p2 is straight winner maybe if op4 will have bigger battery and sdcard slot I will comeback to Oneplus.
It's good to see from your responses so far that you all seem happy with the device, and with no real regrets. So making it look more likely that I'll go for it. I must say though, I am a little surprised to see anyone choose this over the OnePlus 3, which I would imagine would be better in every aspect except the battery. Perhaps this really should send a message to the industry that people really care about battery life?
I might have to have a look to see if I can source a reasonable case and glass screen protector before taking the plunge, just so that I can be protected from day one.

Well if you find a good screen protector let me know!!! All have found is complete rubbish. Too big, poor quality. Terrible reviews on Amazon and eBay. So yeah, if you find a good one, post the seller here it will be appreciated!!
Great User Experience
I bought this as I needed a phone while my S7 Edge had to be repaired due to faulty memorycard slot.
Other than a slightly mediocre camera on the P2, I feel the P2 is a much better user experience. So I've decided to sell my S7 Edge once it's been repaired.
I will however order me the LG G6 when it launches, but the P2 is a keeper as my second phone. It's absolutely great for my use. Phoning, SMS, Browsing the Web, email, Youtube(just a little annoying delay) and such tasks. When P2 get upgraded to Nougat it will be even more of a killer budget phone.
just think about the best phone you can have at the budget.There is lenovo z2 plus at the same price,which has better processor,but i think lenovo p2 is better than that when considering user experience.or you can go for mi 5

You will be amazed at the difference.
Came from an LG G2 and find the P2 amazing,battery is King and phone runs well.
A few bugs to be sorted out yet but nothing that puts me off the phone too much.

I have a oneplus 2 and i think about to switch to the p2. It's a pity that the p2 has almost no custom rom comunity
I came from the OnePlus One and I don't regret it at all.
My primary annoyance with it was the battery life. I never get the insane battery life people claim from a phone, usually 50-75% of what they get. When it was new, I got around 4-4.5 hours SOT, by the time I retired it after 2 years and custom Android upgrades, a meagre 2.
With the P2 a lot of people report 12 hours SOT, I get around 7-8 hours which feels incredible. As a general rule, I don't charge my phone for 3 days. And it doesn't matter what I do with it for the most part, I get that battery life. The main thing that drains it for me is 3G/LTE, that drags me down to about 6 hours. I use relatively high screen brightness, BT, NFC etc. so I don't skimp. Only thing I don't use is GPS, that is also a battery hog and don't need it most of the time.
Camera isn't amazing, but I don't use mine very much. Again, I agree, the 625 for most intents and purposes is fine against the 801. The one thing my OnePlus didn't feel was slow, though my friend's Moto Z Play did feel snappier in the menus than it. I don't think the GPU is amazing for gaming, I don't play many 3D games but have played some Hitman Sniper, and that does bog down to some degree but can't compare it to other phones. Doesn't bother me a bit though, my phone is mainly for messaging, web browsing and 2D gaming and it does all of those things perfectly. And I got mine for £200 which was even cheaper than I got my OPO for at £269.
I do hope we get one or two custom ROMs in the coming months, since I'd like to move to total stock from the P2 ROM, but it's not a bad OEM ROM really.

I still haven't had any luck in finding a screen protector either from a trusted brand or with good feedback. Not even the wet apply ones. I will keep looking. Will probably just have to go with a cheapy to begin with, just to have something on there. I had a nightmare trying to get a glass protector for my daughters' Samsung A6 (2016), as they were all much smaller than the screen and didn't stick properly around the edges. I think it is because it looks like the screen actually tapers towards the 2.5D curved edges. Looking at the P2 in the shop, its screen looks to be flat all the way to the slightly curved edge, so hopefully won't have those problems.

At least, from what I have seen, all the system menus, etc, retain the stock look, rather than being heavily skinned. So I reckon that once I chuck Nova Launcher on there it'll pretty much look stock anyway. :good:
So I went for it, and so far am quite happy that I did so. There are still a few differences to get used to or to find a way to get them as I like, but well worth the money I'd say. I am getting 3 days use out of it quite easily.

I initially bought a tempered glass screen protector from Amazon (sold by Topaccs), but this was awful. It was, as expected, smaller than the screen, but it did just about go from edge to edge of the actual display area. So I wasn't that bothered by the size. But it didn't stick properly, the edges weren't fully rounded and it picked up fingerprints so badly that even after trying to clean it I was just left with a horrible misting across the whole thing.
After looking around some more, I went for the BROTECT AirGlass protector from EBay (sold by protectionfilms24). I was skeptical to say the least about their claims regarding this "real glass" protector that is much thinner and more flexible but just as hard. But as it goes I am, so far, very impressed. It is a much better fit and looks MUCH better on the phone. If anything, it is a tiny amount too big as it appears to go onto the screens' curves, but it really isn't that noticeable with a case on. It has proper hole cut outs, rather than two big cut outs from the top and bottom edges that you get with the glass ones. Clarity and feel are great, and I tried scratching the leftover button cutout piece, and it certainly appeared to resist scratches.
Whilst I was waiting for this to be delivered, I noticed that Ultimate Shield are now selling a tempered glass protector for the P2. I have had good experiences with their products in the past, so would certainly have given them a go. However, I will be sticking with the Brotect for now as I am more than happy with it.

So I just broke my Oneplus One and bought a P2 for 180€(!) Can anyone tell me how the camera compares to the OPO? I know, apparently it isn't that good but I didn't find the camera on the OPO to be any good either. Is it a step up from this?
Coming from op2 I feel camera is worst in low light and slower focusing, software side has better stock experience than that horrible lagging (throttling) oxygenOS, but video bug is terrible

i just saw this phone on amazon.com for 212$, and looking this specs (snap 820 & 4gb ram) its a deal! but i wanna know about the materials and build quality. the phone feels cheap ? ( i know that for 211 i can't expect much but coming from a nexus 5..) the back is glass or plastic?
another thing , i read that the phone always come with modded roms (not stock zui) so i wanna know if indian stock comes with google play services?

Build quality is good, but I think glass back is fragile and attracts fingerprints and scratches and maybe will break if falls from a good height

I used to own a Nexus 5 and the Zuk Z2 reminds me of it in many ways - great value, fast performance and a sizable custom rom community so that you can always flash something different. Build quality is pretty good (though I do prefer the soft touch back of the Nexus 5 to the slippery glass back of the Z2), camera isn't better but the battery life is a big, big improvement. I loved my N5 and am very happy with the Z2.

is really the back of the zuk z2 made from glass? , N5 is a great phone, mine runs pretty well but has some issues ( has been my main phone since its release and i'm a heavy user )
i really looking for a cheap phone because in my country there are many thieves in the street (Venezuela is right at brink of a civil war)

The back really is glass, so I've put a case on and don't have any real issues. The z2 camera is also "meh" - probably pretty much the same as the Nexus 5 except that it does capture more detail due to the higher megapixel count. It's not too bad in good light, but struggles in low light. If you're not looking for an upgrade over the Nexus camera, you should be happy.

well i use the camera mainly for college task (taking photos of a documents, blackboard or such) and it's very rare when i use it for something else (well birthdays, events and such but you get the point). i think i will buy this one, seems pretty powerful with that snapdragon 820 and 4 gigs of ram. i hope it really last as long as my N5
Good luck! My only parting comment is that you probably need to be comfortable with flashing a custom ROM, because the stock versions are very different from a Nexus experience. It's not difficult to do, though, and you'll be able to end up with a phone that looks and feels very much like your Nexus - just one whose battery lasts a whole lot longer!
The Z Play is by far the best phone I've owned. It is fast, has a passable camera, the battery life is crazy (especially with the Moto turbo power pack) and the screen is very good too. I've been trying to find a replacement for the past 6 months, but nothing I've tried is a better all round package than this. The OnePlus 5 was nice, but the battery wasn't fantastic and screen wasn't as good. The iPhone 7 I just tried was a whole level below this in performance, screen and battery.
Have any Z Play users tried the Z2 play? If so, was it worth the upgrade. I want to upgrade as I like changing phones, but nothing really compares still!

If I we're going to stick with the Z line, I'd go with the Z3 play rather than the 2.
But none of the newer Z phones feel like enough of an upgrade to me to make it worth the jump.
Based on what I've seen, the OnePlus 6T looks like the best next option to me. I've seen a bunch of screen shots showing 6-8h SoT with long day use, so while it's not up there with the Z play, it seems better than just about anything out there. Better camera is a bonus. I can live with no headphone jack. My biggest 'missing' feature is wireless charging. Price is definitely higher than the z line, but not by the huge margin it would take to get to an S9+ or pixel 3.
I am tempted by the 6T, no headphone jack does annoy me a bit though ...
I think to moto one power or moto z3 play next year when prices have gone down
Or a xiaomi , may be next redmi note pro, the note 6 pro was not really a big update vs Z play
The Z3 play seems to have rubbish battery life though. I do have the turbo power pack to use with it, but even so...
What's it like in terms of camera and speed? I'd rather stick to a Z line phone than go to the OnePlus 6T really, I just prefer these. My 2nd hand Z Play is faultless apart from a very slow camera app!
A brand new Z3 play just sold on eBay for £275, which is only a bit more than I paid for my used Z Play when I got it.

Yup, same boat. At this point the only true upgrade without braking the bank would be a pixel 2 xl for the on-time updates, complete API support and truly superior camera and even then I would still get a bit less battery life out of it, Moto Z play truly is battery king.
I ordered the 6T yesterday, but got buyer's remorse and cancelled it. After only spending £231 on my Z Play, I don't really want to spend £529! Looking at used 6's on eBay, but the battery life seems a bit bad. I keep coming back to the Z2 Play... £199 brand new and I can keep using my turbo power pack. Is the performance much better? My Z play is getting a tad sluggish sometimes...

Looking at used 6's on eBay, but the battery life seems a bit bad. I keep coming back to the Z2 Play... £199 brand new and I can keep using my turbo power pack. Is the performance much better? My Z play is getting a tad sluggish sometimes...
If not, then a Z3 play comes up every now and then for about £275, but the design/functionality seems a bit weird to me
Then again, a 5T would probably be sufficient for my tasks nowadays. My Z Play only drops 20% on my usual work day during the week, so I can't image a 6 or a 5T will drop too much more. The big question is, is the 6 worth £100 more than the 5T currently is?

I have done a bit more research and I think I'm going to go for a OnePlus 6 or 5T (whichever one comes up as a better deal) I think the lesser battery life is worth it for the bigger screen, better camera and better performance.
Plus, buying used means that if in 3-6 months time I decide I need better battery again, I'll just sell it and get a Z3 Play because OnePlus phones hold their value very well.
Update on this. I have now purchased a pristine OnePlus 6 128gb for £379 (bargain!) I'll let you know how I get on compared to the Z Play
Honestly same, I love my Moto Z Play. If it weren't for the bad experiences I've had a couple times with security patches and the lack of software support I'd stick with it for much longer. But there are other options now that make what this accomplishes seem sub par. Don't get me wrong though. This phone is stable to a fault and I've got a lot of battery life to boot with the power pack attached as well. But The weight, the storage limitations, sub 4GB RAM (which I wouldn't mind if 2 or 3 of my apps weren't so hungry for the stuff) and the aforementioned lack of software support is starting to become more apparent. I'm probably going to keep the phone as a trusty backup though but I think I'm going to save up for the top-end model of the OnePlus 6T because it seems to have everything I love about this phone give or take a few brand specific quirks swapped out (Moto Gestures for Oxygen gestures) plus a better camera and just more overall fluidity. It kinda annoys me too about the headphone jack but I've been mostly using my Sony WH-1000XM3s which support AptX HD and LDAC so I won't be missing it too much plus I'm probably gonna spend a bit extra for all the sense of security stuff plus a case and bullets wired for the sake of convenience. However I'm terms of how much I love the Moto Z Play I'd say it's earned a place in my heart right next to my Nexus 5.
It has also earned a place on my shelf next to the N5 as well lol (sadly the Nexus 5's screen recently shattered finally so thusly the MZP takes it's place as my trusty backup should anything go awry.)

I realized I digressed haha, just really love the time I've had with this.
Actual advice I'd say is a real toss up for good choices. I really don't like Apple as a company but as of recently I'd say the iPhone X is a pretty good value in terms of optimization but the OS and insistent use of the lightning connector as opposed to USB-C is a deal breaker for me. If those don't mean much to you however I'd say it's a pretty good option.
Huawei has seen similar optimizations in terms of hardware what with the new 7nm SoC soaking up much less battery and pumping out much more performance but I don't know much of their software support in terms of updates or individual app developers considering their devices. I've heard the firmware and camera are amazing though this time around. Again, from my POV the heavy skin is a bit much for me with too many things I wouldn't use personally.
I can't honestly recommend the Pixel 3 devices due to their questionable specs for the price unless all you're looking for is a DSLR camera with optional onboard editing software. But of course software support is amazing.
ANY of the gaming branded phones (Xiaomi Black Shark 2, Razer Phone 2, and the ROG Phone) aren't half bad values disregarding the lack of history for their lines so you won't know if they have good software support at all. The skins are all pretty heavy UI wise minus the Razer Phone 2. Of all of them though I've only seen the Razer Phone 2 in person and it's pretty sleek tbh.
Sony is a mixed bag, I can't think of a specific model off the top of my head but they're generally amazing in one aspect and maybe pretty good in a couple of others but then tank every other category so that's your gamble to take if you wish.
Samsung kinda takes the same page as Google in you're paying a bunch but you're getting that heavy skin on the UI (with some admittedly neat features like Ultra Battery Saver) meh update support, and a nice camera. The difference being that you're also getting a huge battery and more RAM options so it's not as bad a value as the Pixel devices.
Then last but far from least would be the current king of value (due to the Poco F1 DRM failure) which would be the OnePlus 6T. Buying new from OnePlus it's the same price set as the OP6 but the 6T has a larger battery and smaller notch not to mention the first considerably fast in display fingerprint scanner. Dash charging is already a good bonus considering it's one of the fastest charging technologies I'm the phone market. As far as I've seen the phone scores 10s all around (I don't know about speaker performance however) Topping it off with the fact the UI has everything I love about Motorola's tweaking plus a couple more things. Setting the settings and other context menus to black to save a bunch of battery, more options for screen calibration, optimized to be light on the processor and battery to keep it from running down in your pocket. Big downer however is the loss of our dearly departed headphone jack, it's unfortunate but OnePlus said it was time. On the upside however it includes the dongle, the dongle includes a DAC, and the BT codecs included aren't bad either. OnePlus also made a statement not long ago that they're essentially going to be giving their devices Pixel/Nexus-like software support roadmaps further supported by Google's new software support policy.
Ah and frosting on top; It's not $1,000 for 256GB storage, 8GB RAM, and a huge AMOLED panel but about $650
Even with a case/bullets bundle with all the added warranty/damage protection stuff it's still under $1,000 at about $816 so that's why I'm picking the 6T myself.
All those considered however it's largely you're decision what you're most comfortable with getting based off your own experiences and judgement. I just hope it's a purchase you'll wholeheartedly love
OnePlus 6 arrived today.
So far is seems pretty good, it is so quick.
Screen isn't as bright, it is quite dim up until 100%, but not terrible.
Can't comment on the battery yet, but it won't be like the Z Play.

Update on this, a few weeks on.
Battery life is decent enough, I still get 1-2 days from it with my light usage, heavy usage gets about 7 hours SOT. I'd imagine the 6T is far better though.
It is very fast, I'm yet to notice any slow downs or lag at all, it does everything quickly.
The camera is a mixed bag.. the stock camera app I've found to be slow to capture, but GCAM fixed this. Quality of photos is decent, I still prefer my old Nexus 6P I think though, but this is definitely good enough for most people and if a big upgrade from the Z play.
The screen is fantastic, not as bright as the Z play, but it is lovely to look at.
I think I've covered everything that most people care about.
Overall, I am happy with the upgrade, I wouldn't want to go back to a small screen again I think. It isn't exactly incredible, but it seems to be a good all around phone. It isn't the best in any one category, but it is good in all of them!
The only thing I'd really like to be improved is the battery life, I miss not being about to guarantee 2 days between charges with heavy use!

Thanks for the follow up on this thread. I'm still on the fence. Had I caught the essential ph-1 deal for $170 on Black Friday that would have been it for me. Then I missed the Z2 Force for $99 yesterday - would have done that too.
Still bouncing around all the $400 - $500 phones. Currently leaning towards the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s, but nearly impossible to find new with 128gb storage.
MZP is still just too good to let go - let's me be too indecisive about upgrades!
I nearly got an essential, but the average battery life put me off. I would say that for most people, it is worth stepping up the price and getting a 6T over a 6, just for the battery life (IMO). However, I am definitely not unhappy with battery life. It is probably on par if not a tad better than my old OnePlus 5

Yeah battery life was a concern for me - though I saw some fairly decent numbers on some of the threads here.
For me it's very much about "bang for the buck" when I get phones. MZP has been the best I've ever had in that regard. LG Optimus G and Moto E 2015 are right up there too.
My Z Play was £231 second hand, so not exactly a bargain, but stepping up to £370 for my OP6 was still a big step in the price. My Z Play will still get used very often as I switch between them frequently

If anything is going to break this deal its

I went the opposite way. I just returned my z-fold 3 because of the battery life and the cameras. The s-pen flip case was absolutely horrid. I just feel for a $1,900 phone, it was underwhelming. I'm hoping on the z-fold 4, they put the s-pen solo in the phone. It just wasn't the note replacement I hoped it would be. I ordered an s21 ultra 512 GB but I won't be here till the end of the month so I'm looking forward to that now.

I went from S21 Ultra to Fold 3, I certainly won't be going back to to a candy bar phone again. The cameras do a good enough job for me, the S21 camera array would have been nice, but I do wonder how much it would bump the price up.
I don't mind the outside screen either, certainly easier to type 1 handed, where the S21 U was quite wide to use like that.

Maybe in your opinion but I have my own. The cameras are basically up to par with my Note 20 5G. Maybe you are willing to sacrifice to have a folding screen but I am not. Cellular reception also was worse and I have a feeling that is what was killing the battery. By all means enjoy your F3 and I'll enjoy my S21. Like I said, I am looking forward to the Fold 4.
I love my fold3. The battery life isn't great, but try turning off your 5G. That should help out quite a bit. Plus you won't be able to tell the difference with the speeds unless you're using ultra wideband.

S21U to ZF3. I've gotten settled into the Fold 3 after a few days - I had to swap out my email app of choice (Nine) for Outlook to help with the battery (Nine has always been a bit of a hog, but it tips the scales to "not a full day" whereas Outlook plays nicer). I'm now getting a full business day (12hrs) but not much more.
I've got a little stand and BT keyboard taking its place as an iPad Mini Pro as welll...
I will miss the S21U cameras (I still have it...not giving it up so quickly!) so it's def form vs. function.
My biggest gripe with the Fold isn't the phone itself. To have a good solid case on it that lays flat means having big edges around the front screen. It's a bit awkward, but I'm sure I'll cope with time.
As for battery life, I do a lot of reading. I used to use a tablet + S21. With their mixed usage, either device would last a couple days without any real issue. Now, I have to top off during the day. I knew at some level this would be the case, but didn't QUITE expect it to be as heavy as it is. I have a charger at my work desk, home desk, and nightstand so it isn't a problem in my day to day life. Reading is also something I can avoid doing, and usually would anyway, if I'm going to be out and about all day.

Yep. You were in essence carrying two batteries, one in the S21 and one in the Tablet. You can't get away with just having 1 battery and expecting it to last as long as 2. The answer is to have an external battery along for the ride (which I always have in my bag anyway!)

Well, didn't usually carry the tablet with me as much as use it around the house. That said, yes. Not only is the tablet a second battery, it's a larger second battery. I expected higher usage, I just didn't expect as much as I should have. I do have the ability to bring a battery if needed, I just don't need to in most cases.
Totally get it. It's just helpful to think about the loss of the large 2nd battery

I took the ZF3 and S21U out together today and did camera tests on my own and was amazed how well the ZF3 matched the S21U. (cept for zoom and macro)
Honestly if you have a SGS21 Ultra. There is no point in upgrading to the Z Fold 3 as the performance is the exact same as they are running on the same hardware.

S21u outside of USA and SK has the "inferior" Exynos chip which has different performance and heat management (and also different ISP for processing images taken with cameras)
It's a difficult question ... Upgrade from S21u to F3?
Personally I'd say if you want to try foldable phones the F3 is the one to go for
If camera is most important to you stick with the S21U

My 'problem' with the F3 cameras is that for £1599 ($1799) the absolure flagship product from Samsung I expect the S21 Ultra camera module to be included. However, Samsung reduced F3 price by £200 over last years F2 so we cant have everything (but we still want it!)
The Fold3 camera sensors are the same as those in the Fold2, which were same as Fold1, which were same as the S10+ cameras.
If we wanted 3 year old camera sensors in our smartphones we would buy an Apple iPhone. lol

So, did you end up buying an IPhone?
If not, and you bought the F3, you'll know that the pictures it takes are very good, to the extent that some YouTube comparisons show that it holds up to, and sometimes beats the IPhone in terms of picture quality.
If you didn't buy the F3, you're just trolling, for how would you know how good or bad the camera is in reality. LOL

As a phone enthusiast (read addict), I have owned in the last 12 months.... Note 20 Ultra, iPhone 12 Pro Max, Xiaomi Mi 11 5g, S21 ultra and now the Z Fold3.
The Fold 3 is 1000s times more advanced and exciting to use than any of the other devices mentioned above... however the Z range cameras are stuck at 12mp from 2019 S10 era.
I agree pictures taken with a Z Fold3 are good or even excellent in most cases....
however, if you claim 2.0 optical zoom in F3 is technically as good as 10x optical zoom in S21U , or thar 108MP with Laser autofocus on S21u is not "better" than basic 12mp main lens on the Z Fold, you are mistaken my friend
(and lets not even begin to discuss the 4 FOUR! megapixel under-screen-camera lol )
To clarify .... I ABSOLUTELTY LOVE my Z Fold3!
I just think Samsung has missed the opportunity to release the ULTIMATE "UNBEATABLE" smartphone by not including 2021 spec camera module from the S21 Ultra. (The Note range always matched or exceeded the cameras in the S range from 6 months previous so why not do the same with the Z range?).
