[Q] Firmware upgrade with root?

Good morning everyone.
As you can see from my post count, I am fresh meat on the XDA forums, and more in general to fiddling with Android.
I rooted my phone while ago, doing great so far (but no custom ROM yet, waiting for CM 7/9).
Today I opened up Kies and found thet there's a firmware upgrade avaiable.
It reads like this:

Now, my situation is like this:
. I am rooted
. I have uninstalled several system apps (mainly Samsung Bloatware)
Being the total noob I am, am I safe to to the upgrade from Kies? (apart the known fact I learnt that Kies is Satan's stepchild)

Update from Kies is a risk. Many ppl was posting that they have some errors. I prefer to update by Samsung Ota, just need wifi connection and thats all. I made the update with rooted phone and after update phone was still rooted.

I saw another thread similar to mine being opened, in which it says that this update is just the 2.3.6 one.
But I'm already on 2.3.6
My main concern about updating was about the fact that I'm rooted and uninstalled some default apps, and if that would interfere with the update

This update should bring your Version build to "GINGERBREAD.XXLA2"
It is now available in Italy both through Kies and OTA (I updated yesterday evening via OTA).
I think this upgrade can unroot your phone. But you can always root it again.
The "Root via Recovery" method should work on this release too.

If you think there's risk...use odin.it's more reliable than kies..that's only what I know..
Try clockworkmod recovery by arco68;

It can do a lot of thing..u can do a nandroid backup if anything **** happen..just recover it..

Yeah I'm investigating about ClockworkMod (I hate mindlessly use things without prior knowledge of how they work)
By the way I have succesfully upgraded with Kies (OTA Update kept failing instead).
Now I'm waiting for an update of ZergRush root, cause this last firmware update screwed it.

Not sure if that will happen soon, but I would recommend you to read, as mentioned above, about the rooting via Recovery:
It is also possible via ClockWorkMod.
About the CWM, via ODIN it is very easy to flash and you have the possibility to reflash the stock recovery in a couple of seconds, too. This may be needed if you update next time via OTA.

Unable to flash device using FlashTool for Mac OS X

Hello,
I am attempting to flash my Sony Xperia M phone, to downgrade it from 4.3 to 4.1 (in order to install a custom ROM).
I have downloaded two versions of the 4.1 OS, but neither appear to work.
The problem is, the progress bar indicating how far along the Flashing process is, is stuck at one point forever.
As I understand, it should take only a matter of minutes, but I've left it going for hours at a time, but it never completes.
There seems to be something wrong with the software, or the OS I've downloaded, or the phone itself. I have no idea.
If you are able to suggest ways around this problem, that would be appreciated.

Who told you that you need to downgrade ?? You need the latest firmware version (4.3)

With the phone as it is, I am unable to unlock the bootloader. Only until I downgrade will I be able to unlock the bootloader.

As you can see here in the Service Menu, the Rooting Status displays that the Bootloader cannot' be unlocked.
I have read elsewhere online that previous versions of Android on Xperia M allow for this. This is why I wish to downgrade.

I see my friend, I'm afraid even if you upgrade you'll get a "no" but you can always try I hope I'm wrong, unfortunately I never faced this problem, I don't know how to help, sorry man , try using a newer version of flashtool or even older, I don't know how drivers work on Mac but try reinstalling them, whatever could help you..

Flashtool for OSX isn't working well . Fastboot is working , flashing is not working with me (OSX El CAptain)
I'm running flashtool on a Linux pc or on My Mac with virtual box and windows.

Has anybody found a solution to this problem?
I would like to contact the developer and report the issue, but can't find the info.
Is there an alternative way to flash Xperia phones on a Mac?

[Help] LG G4 Update and root things

Hey i just bought an lg g4. And it's something weird about it. Its an h815 version. The imei, the serie and the numbers are the same as the box, nothing weird. BUT the phone is alredy rooted. From fabric? Its rare. But thats not the problem. The problem is it has 5.1 and i want the update to 6. I checked ota and nothing. So i want to make an update from lg bridge from pc. But ITS ROOTED and i read it can make troubles. So i unrooted the phone with supersu and then i uninstalled it. I download rootchecker and the app say the phone is not root anymore. But SuperSu app still appearing in the system apps list. I try to make theorys. But nothing makes sense. I dont wanna ask if its weird because it is. The question is if i could install the update without risks.
Extra information: when i open the supersu app it says that the binaries need an update but couldn't download it.
If its usefull i upload a screenshot of the software info

easy just flash using LGUP program and using your phones KDZ. chossing refurbished will wipe clean your phone. check wich kdz you need and thats it.

it is once you know. its pretty safe to do.
first you must have the LG drivers i think in link of LGUP they have it.
download LGUP install in computer
find out wich variant you have and download the corresponding KDZ. that you need to find out.
KDZ's should be there in LGUP link where it says OTHER GREAT THREADS TO HELP YOU storagecow has KDZ files
just read each step carefully.

Force install firmware to Honor 9x STK-LX1. Please help.

Good morning everyone on the forum.
I need your help to be able to install Emui 10 with Android 10 on my device.
This is the Honor 9x STK-LX1. The device was bought by ALIEXXRESS and came to me through Poland.

The goal is to install via microsd card with the dload method.
After formatting the card, I need to transfer to this the dload folder, which contains the update file. app However the file I downloaded contains 3 zip files, each of which has a different update.app file.
So I don't know which is the correct file.

I managed to do this today.
I think I spoke with you on the honor reddit about how our phones wont update.
I used the exact same files as you did.
- Make a empty folder in the SD card called "dload"
- Put all 3 files (unzipped) in that folder.
- then go to your phone call app dialler, enter *#*#2846579#*#* -, (like your making a phone call)
- the ProjectMenu page will be displayed.
- Go to 4. Software Upgrade > 1. Memory card Upgrade > OK
and it updated! If you want more info PM me

I tried all the ways to install the rom, but I did not succeed. Every time I get the message that "the software is incompatible. Try with the right package".
I thought of trying it out with a new microsd card.

I bought an Honor 9X, (global version), model STK-LX1, running EMUI 9.1.0, stating that the last security update is April 1, 2020. Hi, i have the same problem as Green Dragon.
I have bought a Honor 9x model STK-LX1 and the phone now runnung Emui 9.1.0.318 (C431E1R1P2).
In Italy has already been released the Emui 10 but the phone find nothing.
I tried Hisuite, Hicare and dload firmware but nothing has changed.
There is a solution?

Hi dude, this problem is for the device STK LX1 dont have support to update EMUI 10 and Android Q, I have honor 9 STK-LX3 whit EMUI 10 an Android Q, the problem is the support from huawei since the honor STK-LX3 has the same architecture and support as H Y9S and the stk-lx1 is a unique version, a little similar only they forgot about it by the implementation of only changing the hardware and the identical firmware that I comment you,

I have an STK-LX1 with EMUI10. It was an official update via OTA

i have bought used STK-LX1 in finland, but its frp locked and i want to flash new stock emui 9.1 android in it with pc, what is the correct way to this so i can make my phone functional?

Mi 10t 5g - lack of updates since 2020

I recently got this phone, I like it, but I'm astonished that it seems that I'm unable to update it. I tried the standard OTA update, i tried updating by downloading the most recent official ROMs and nothing, i get always the same message: "Can't verify update - Sorry flash to this stable version is not allowed."
I was only able to update (by package) from the rom 12.0.18 to the rom 12.0.19, which has the security patch from 12.2020.
I tried to switch regions too and nothing.
Do i really have to unlock the bootloader on a new phone or am i doing something really wrong? How come most people are already on 12.5 and android 11 while I'm stuck on 10?

I had this same problem as you. I solved it by sending my phone for guarantee. I think they did as you wrote - so probably unlock bootloader and flash (and blocking during flashing). There is no other solution for this problem.
Maybe with MIUI 13 everything will be working fine (for MIUI 12 and 12.5)? I hope so.

from my opinion, you can flash the latest version, without problem.
Just try the followings:
Settings\About the phone\MIUI version\
click on the MIUI logo 3-4 times, than you will get "extended" menu...
on the right upper corner, the "dots" = menu\select the update package...
look aroung the follong site:
Xiaomi Firmware Updater
The ultimate script that provides firmware packages for Xiaomi devices.

BE SURE, select the correct version and download the full image for you phone... copy your phone, and select it with the update manager......

I already did everything you said. I even tried it with incremental updates and nothing. It always says "sorry, cannot update to this stable version".

Updates form A10 to A11 are suspended by Xiaomi. You'll need to unlock bootloader and flash latest version and you can lock it while flashing.

Same problem here..did you solved?

Finally got the update "the natural way". But the battery drain is ridiculous.... Ffs
