I want to root my HTC One M9 but I don't know if it's possible with the latest security patch that Verizon launched.
I'm a complete noob on rooting so if anyone could help me with an easy guide that would be more than great!

I was on build 3.37.605.29 and downgraded to 3.37.605.9 by following the link directions. Then used Sunshine to unlock bootloader.

Hello,
I don't know if this is the right section to post this in, but I have a few questions regarding the debranding/rooting phase.
I currently have a branded T-Mobile HTC Desire (1.21.110.4). My main objective is to get to the point where I have an 1.21.405.2 HTC Desire without root. I'm not interested in having a rooted phone, but it seems that in order to fully debrand my phone to received updates directly from HTC and not through T-Mobile, I need to root the phone, apply a ROM and then unroot?
Can someone please confirm if this is what I need?
Many thanks,
Ashley

To get OTA updates via HTC you would need to root, have a goldcard, flash an unbranded HTC ROM and then search for updates. They'll arrive if available.

Thanks for the reply.
What's the difference between creating a goldcard and using unrevoked? Should I not have used unrevoked? And how would I remove it?
Is there someone who can link me to an UPDATED guide on how to root a desire with bootloader 0.9x using unrevoked on a pc running windows xp?
You can find all sort of guides out there but none of them is updated to the latest bootloader. It is very confusing for someone who would like not to bother anyone with stupid questions (such as this one?)
Can I assume that the guides for bootloader 0.8x are good also for later bootloaders?
Thanks
Luca

Hi,
I'm not a 100% sure of any of this so its better you confirm them once before doing anything but I do have some ideas on how you can update. If you are not S-OFF you then i think that the best way to get root is using Sunshine - http://theroot.ninja/ .You will have to pay 25$ for using this though.Once you are s-off then its easy enough to root and flash custom roms and I would strongly suggest doing this first.
However if you dont want to root your phone or try custom roms/recoveries then you can still update to the latest verizon MM version while being S-on itself.Head over to this thread and follow the instructions:http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/official-ruu1-55-605-2-t2883845
I would highly recommend getting S-off using Sunshine as its highly beneficial in the long run. Let me know if you have any other questions.Good luck.
I'm fairly new to rooting. I'm currently rooted on 5.1 with TWRP. I need help updating my software, because I've tried everything. I'm S-OFF, on T-Mobile, which is now unlocked and have an unlocked bootloader. I really want to get this phone updated, but I'm not sure how.
T-Mobile, US, S-OFF, Unlocked Bootloader.
Can anyone please help with step-by-step instructions if possible?
Either read the ReadMe thread or Sneakyghost's firmware thread. (The latter is located in the dev section. The ReadMe thread on the other hand shouldn't be too hard to find.)
The instructions in the ReadMe thread can be used with S-OFF and S-ON. Sneakyghost's instructions can only be used with S-OFF.
