Hey guys!
I use to have root access on my phone and while that, I was stupid enouth to delete the Bluetooth factory app, therefore now I can't switch it on.
Because of my job I had to remove the root access, now I don't know what to do to get the Bluetooth back to work.
I am running on Android 5.0.2 (another issue I have with the phone, can't really update it as installation keeps failing).
Any help will be appreciated,
Thank you
Don't quote me on it but I think you may be able to flash the same firmware as what is already on it to get it back to stock. Double check that tho..
Beamed in by telepathy.
Do you know where can I find the firmware and how to do it?

Was just wondering if there was anyone that uses the phone that is not rooted and after the update still been able to tether with the changing of the APN in the device settings?
Only reason I ask is I have a One S as well that just after the update I can no longer change the APNs the device switches back on its own.
Opps so sorry this belongs in q a
if you can please move.
subscribing for a response - i just cancelled my update to hear if the update will be an issue
I'm tethered to it right now.
How are you guys tethering without root? Foxfi?
Oh crap I'm sorry, totally didn't see the not rooted part.
Make my own APN in the settings of the to bypass the software on the phone and on my computer changed the user agent string of my browser to that which is on my phone. Can also use a tablet one too.
That works as long as the phone allows you to change APN setting.
The previous version of software on the galaxy does allow you to set and use your own APN.
I'm just not sure about this new version.
Don't really want to update and lose that ability again like on the one s I have too.

I'm considering rooting to tether as I have to travel a lot in the upcoming months. What guide did you use?
Did you have to unroot to get the update then update then root again? What's the flash counter?
Lastly, what app do you use? Free Wifi Tether?
Thanks! I can PM if you want.
Dumb Question (noob)
I'm now rooted on UVLH2 if I update to the new release today, will it remain rooted or must I re-root, and is there a different root procedure or do I again use the same root process?
Sorry If I'm posting a question in the wrong place.
Thank you!

I rooted mine before UVLH2 & after the update root was gone with counter set to 0. So, I guess same will happen for a new update & you'll have to root again.
By the way I checked for software update over data connection and got the message " Access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. Try later."
What does that mean?

Phone: T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 16+32(class 10) gig
ROM: Stock (not sure for how long!)
Rooted: Of course Yes!
Past companions:
HTC Touch Diamond
Nokia 1110
Motorola C155
Try the APN trick method and change your computers user agent to that of the phone.
Works before the update I know that just not sure if will work after the update.
As far as upgrade from rooted? If the update comes thru and you have stock recovery should update ok but will probably lose root.
Anyone yet try this after the latest update.
No one has tried this after the update at all?

Guess i will spend some time backing up my data just incase i have to downgrade.
Do the update and test it out.
Ill report back what i find.
I just updated. You lose root.

U do loose root but you can gain it back the same way you originally gained root. I just tried the free wifi app from the app store and it worked flawless. Hope it helps.
I never had root on mine (yet)
But do the tether work around and I also use with another provider.
That after the update to my One S I can't even change the APN for use on the other provider.
But I did go ahead and do the update to the Galaxy S 3 to UVLJ4 and not rooted can still change APN for use with other providers and can do the APN trick for free tethering yet.
tethering works for me .... mess around with the settings
Here is my situation: I used Odin v3.7 and root66_RWC_I747MVLDMF1.tar.md5 to root my i747m to rooted JB 4.1.2. The root was successful but stupid me I forgot to uncheck automatic software update on my phone. Come morning I discovered that the automatic software update downloaded the latest version of JB, I'm assuming 4.3 or higher which everyone here knows it is half-baked. I turn on my phone and I get a message saying that the latest software has been downloaded and it's now asking to install it. How do remove the downloaded software update? Where is this file sitting on my phone? Do I need to re-root my S3 to get rid of the software update? Do I need to unroot my S3 and then root it again? What options do I have? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

This is kinda a shot in the dark, but maybe go to recovery mode and clear cache? I would assume that's where the file went? Or... get a file explorer and find the file and delete it, or enable debug mode and find the file in /cache and delete it.
After a bit of research, that is where it went. You can also do like this thread mentions and freeze the update service using titanium backup com.motorola.blur.updater
source: android.stackexchange(dot)com/questions/32205/where-can-i-find-the-ota-update-file
offtopic: I downloaded beanstock(4.4) and found a way to enable tethering, apart from that, everything seems smooth and working... If you really dont like 4.3

Thanks for the tip. I found the update file which was called, "update.zip" in the /cache/fota directory using the Root Browser app.
Hello to anyone who decides to read this, and thank you for taking the time to haha.
I'm new here, and I'm relatively new to the whole rooting and modding scene, although I'm pretty confident in using Odin and various software involved in this, so, hopefully this won't be too complicated.
I have a question about my Note 10.1 2014. I have the WiFi model (P6000), which was bought in China since I was a student there for a year. Now I'm back in England. I flashed my ROM to a UK version so I could use Google Play services and Facebook integration, along with several other features and services which are blocked in China for various reasons. Now, my problem is, I have no real reason to have a rooted device other than for this. I also know I didn't need to root my device to flash the ROM, but I had some problems with my keyboard in China, but I have since solved them and have no use for the root. I want to take advantage of OTA updates since apparently my device should have one, but I can't because I'm rooted. Is it at all possible to unroot and lock the bootloader so I can update, without losing the ROM flash that is making my device run the UK firmware? If so, how would I go about doing this on my device? If it's not possible, is there are method in which I can update my firmware?
Sorry if I'm a little clueless about this stuff, and thanks in advance.

What rom version you're running right now? Do you have a full UK factory firmware 4.4 available?

Sorry for the late response, I was travelling.
I'm not entirely sure haha. Here's my device info, does this explain my situation?
As for the second question, I'm not entirely sure what you mean? I looked for the firmware for flashing but couldn't find a Android 4.4 version, despite my device telling me I have an available update and the internet saying my device should be updated to 4.4?

OK, you have 4.3 and waiting for 4.4 OTA update. If you open your SuperSU app, then go to settings, scroll down to "Full unroot", select that and it should unroot. After done reboot your device and verify that the SuperSU is no longer in your app draw. I don't know if you modify anything else on your device like build.props or installed any rooted apps, if you do you need to remove them ALL, unfreeze any system apps using Titanium backup and revert build.props back to factory original, BEFORE YOU UNROOT. Once everything done you should be ok to take the OTA update. The OTA update will not erase your data so you should be fine there.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I tried to option within SuperSU, but it seems to have been uninstalling for about 15 minutes with no result. I realised that I froze the stock Samsung keyboard since it overtakes the Google Chinese Pinyin Input when using a keyboard, and I work primarily in Chinese. Could this be the reason why the uninstall seems to have failed or got stuck? Not sure what to do now, oops.

Did you read my instructions?? you must un-freeze all the system apps first before unroot otherwise the OTA may failed. Let it sits for another 10 min then reboot your phone and check to see root has been removed.

Yeah, I did read the instructions. It was just a moment of stupidity on my behalf, completely forgot I'd frozen the stock keyboard. I'll leave a little longer and then reboot.

Well, it seems to have gone a little weird. I have no root access anymore but SuperSU is still installed and my device status is still custom, so the OTA update won't run. I'm guessing I ought to reroot and properly clear out/unfreeze stuff, right? Sorry for being a pain haha...

You need to remove the SuperSu app by go to playstore search for Supersu then you should see the uninstall option. The OTA failed probably because it detected that you have modified the system. You need to think what you did to your system and revert back before try again. I would just use towelroot app and reroot then unfreeze any frozen apps, then uninstall then try again. If you can't remembered what you did and the OTA stills failing, then the next step is use Odin and flash factory firmware either 4.3 or 4.4. Remember to read my instructions before and ask if in doubt before taken any action. After you re-root, make sure you use Titanium to run a full backup of all your userapps. if you don't want to be bother, then just use Odin to flash either 4.3 or 4.4 but you need to re setup and re-download all your apps.
if i root my D850, and ONLY FREEZE apps with SuperSU, and run Rom Toolbox only for wake lock control, and SD Maid for cleaning. i should be able to still receive OTA updates easily. if my thinking is correct im not actually removing any files and both apps have buttons to easily reverse what i've done.....
Would my thinking be correct?????
Unfortunatly not. As soon as the device is rooted, you can't make OTA updates.
But you can unroot it easily by using PC Suite
oh cool, so if i do what i was thinking then un freeze and reset the wake locks then do this unroot i should be good to go for android L when it comes?
Or would it be better just to wait? i dont see LG being high on the list of fast updated, especially via att
or cant i take the update straight from PC Suite instead and just forget about OTA or will i get the same failure regardless?

strange, i am rooted with PD and can still receive OTA
either way it sounds like it may be worth it to go ahead and root. as long as i dont go too far like i did on my s4 i think i should be alright. im not really gonna change anything anyway, i just want a bit more control of what does what and when.
thanks guys.
As the title says I need to figure out how to revert to a previous version so that I can root it. Apparently MMB30J does not have a way to root it, I have tried several different ways all failed. I have the 2013 LTE version. Bad idea on my part to let it fully update before I went to root it since I just bought it. Didn't think it was going to be a big deal, any help would be nice.
This can be deleted, I figured it out, had to change it to PTP from MTP, but I found the way with WUG. Thanks though.
