Hello Everybody
I have really done a stupid thing to my Nexus 5X today.
I was planning to sell it and so created a dummy google account was playing with Android O in it.
I factory reset the device without realizing that it would not revert the OS version to Nougot.
The Android O is not going away even after doing Factory reset and factory data reset from Recovery.
How should i revert back to Nougat ?
I just signed as a proper Google user and opted-out from the Beta.

That topic may help.
Go to Settings - Security - Factory data reset
It saids that it erases all data on the phone. And if you have rooted your phone you should probably unroot it first.
Do I need to unroot first before go to factory data reset?

actually it does not matter what you do first.
But i would suggest to unroot first, because after factory reset the initial setup will start and you will be prompted to provide all different kind of stuff.
If you unroot first and factory reset its in first sale status and the new user will get the initial setup when he turns on the phone for the first time.
You don't have to unroot if you don't want to. Factory reset just clears the /data partition, to root you have made changes to the /system partition. So if you want to unroot to you have to do it separately (there are some tutorials in this forum)
Hello! I came from Oreo passing all Pie betas and now I'm on the latest release...
I have detected some lag in animations (mostly multitasking) so I wanted to restet my phone...
What should I do better? Factory reset or Load latest image through adb?
Thank you!!
do factory reset first, see if it resolves your issue, then if not, or your still not satisfied, install factory images and wipe all user data, start from scratch
So I stupidly tried to upgrade to the Pixel 4 Launcher before the official Dec update came and even after trying to uninstall/reinstall the .apk and downgrade etc, I still can't get the launcher to be remotely usable without the error popups if I have gestures on. So I am resorting to factory resetting and just starting from scratch.
I feel extremely dumb asking this as I've been rooting/customizing my phones since the G1, but about 6 months ago I had to send in a phone for RMA and when I factory reset it, wiped the OS and the bootloader was locked, so I am making sure I don't do that this time as I'm now out of warranty.
What is the process of factory resetting when I am rooted with Magisk and have the bootloader unlocked? I don't have a custom rom, just stock Android and I do not have TWRP installed. I feel like it's as simple as just going into Settings and hitting Factory Reset in Reset Options, but I can't remember if I did that or something else when I bricked the RMA phone and want to make sure.
Again, sorry for the completely stupid question, just trying to cover the bases. Thanks in advance!

It's like you said, go to settings and factory reset. Or, go to stock recovery and do it from there :good:
I just bought a used Pixel 2 XL and it is really in great shape. It came with Android 11 installed and I'm not so sure I like it. If I do a factory reset will it go back to the Android version that was installed new, think 8 or 9? Or will it just wipe things and come back with Android 11? I'm somewhat confused on what the term factory reset implies. Thanks....
A factory reset completely wipes the data partition of the device, resulting in a device with no apps when you reboot. The phone retains the version of Android it currently has. So long as yours is NOT a Verizon unit you can use a factory image from Google and fastboot commands to install an older version of Android. If you have a Verizon device you're SOL.
OK thank you for clearing that up for me. Mine is the Google version so I will have that option to install older versions....I will need to do some research here for instructions. I believe it is unlocked already so that helps the process....
I have a 3xl rooted with Android 11 on it. I've never installed Android 12 because I wasn't sure if I had to de-root the phone prior to upgrading to Android 12. Can I simply go to Settings>System>System Update>Download and Install and be good to go or do I need to return it to factory prior to upgrading to Android 12? Also, I'd like to perform a factory reset on the phone because it's never had it done on this phone and the phones beginning to glitch up. What's the best order to factory reset vs upgrading to Android 12, etc? Thanks for all help in advance.
EDIT: I just saw that I have Majisk on the phone as well. It's out of date too. So any help on what order I need to perform all of the above actions in would be very helpful. I'm guessing step 1: update Majisk, 2. Upgrade to Android 12, 3. Factory Reset?
