Purchasing Mi6 in the UK - Xiaomi Mi 6 Questions & Answers

Hey guys, I'm living in the UK and was wondering where the best place to purchase this phone from was. Best in terms of price and customs fee. I've seen various places mentioned but am still a bit hesitant as I've never bought anything from outside the UK before and have no experience in doing so.
Also, those of you who have bought this phone from overseas, how was the experience? Did you have to pay a customs fee and if so, how much was it? How did the phone arrive? On top of never having purchased from overseas, customs fee etc, I'm also worried about how the phone will arrive. Was it packaged properly, or was the phone damaged in any way? Did Google Play come preinstalled and does the phone work on o2's frequency?
I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I've been meaning to upgrade from my Moto X Style and always come back to this phone.
If the community could answer my questions, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks you!

I got mine mi6 from honorbuy
https://www.honorbuy.com/182-xiaomi-mi-6
They have it in stock at their warehouse in italy.
Not the cheapest tho, but no taxes makes it ok.

So no customs fee to ship to UK? Great! How did the phone arrive? Was the condition as expected? (perfect condition, no flaws whatsoever)
And I'm assuming by the "global rom" mentioned in the title, it comes preloaded with Google Play and the rest of the Google apps?
Thanks for the speedy reply, buddy.

Was well packed and was delivered by DHL. Took 5 days from order to delivery. Brand new and all seals intact. I did not check what rom it came with, unlocked bootloader, wiped and installed linage directly

Maybe you can buy one from Taobao, but I don't konw there's someone want to show you how to take a phone to the UK from China or not.

Hi,
I ordered mine through Gearbest, came with the global ROM which I've stuck with so far. It takes OTAs.
It does take a bit of getting used to after coming from Lineage, but with Nova launcher on top it's passable.
As for customs duties, I used their standard free shipping and it wasn't stopped. It came very well packaged; lined jiffy bag and all that.
Timing-wise, ordered on the 22nd June and received 4th July; so if you can wait it's a good option.
It was received perfect, all seals intact. They threw in an adapter for the plug as well. One in the box isn't a UK plug.
A quick Google shows it's on Gearbest at the moment for £335. That's a tenner cheaper than I paid!
Overall, I'd do it again (though hopefully not for a while yet!).

Ordered my first Xiaomi (Redmi Note 3 SE) from Honorbuy.
- Shipping was really fast (2-3 days) but very expensive (about EUR 40,-)
- Packaging was just a plastic bag, box was little damanged on the corners and it came opened
Ordered my next Xiaomi, the Mi 6 from Gearbest on June 25 and it was delivered on July 10. Bought it during a flash sale for EUR 326,-
- No custom fee nor shipping cost via Priority Line > Germany Express
- Came with Global ROM 8.2.2.0 (NCAMIEC), google services preinstalled and sealed
- Packaging see screenshot below
- My experience overall was pretty satisfying, i could track the whole process.

That is VERY strange indeed. That site is who I got my Ceramic blue from - and all the official papers INCLUDING a very official warranty and pre and post delivery phone call verification from.
They were very thorough, all the way to certifying my IMEI numbers and providing a service number because Xiaomi really doesn't have centers in Africa.
So, I really don't know what to say. Who did YOU call...?
P.S. Just did a check and you are indeed CORRECT! So I may have been lucky....always use PayPal.
Xiaomi do say they are a recognised vendor though and the phone is 100% legit and they will honor warranty BUT only through them because Xiaomi is not OFFICIALLY in Kenya.
Heh. I guess this is everyone's problem eh, with Xiaomi. As far as I could tell, they're only OFFICIALLY in China!
So, for reference, they did mention Gearbest also but none of these are official Xiaomi.
They have an official store in Singapore (heh....!)
The long and short of it was that if you are buying from abroad, there are a number of vendors they deal directly with and exchange imei and serial no. information to make sure as far as possible that only genuine products are being sold. They wouldn't tell me who, only that they would recognised warranty from this site but not directly from me.
So actually - I have to deal with Xiaomi Devices directly if I encounter repair/warranty issues.
When I checked back with Xiaomi Devices they will replace/refund if returned within a month completely. After that, for a year, warranty still stands as free BUT you pay for shipping.
After that they offer support until the phone dies as just a regular support/dealer/repair.
I got the phone from China through Hong Kong so they are Chinese based - which explains the very awkward communication - not dodgy in my eyes, very sincere, just.... Very Chinese!
I did ask how to buy directly from Xiaomi and they said they didn't think it was possible but they'll get back to me.
One thing though. Xiaomi direct is concerned with China sales. The reason they accept warranty from these 'partners' for international sales is that these partners are obliged to make sure that the phones they sell are international. I am not sure what that means but I think the suggestion was that if I shop from XIAOMI direct, I get a Chinese device and it's up to me to International-ise it.
All very obscure. So yes, Xiaomi Device is NOT Xiaomi.... You will have to make your choice.
I have bought from Gearbest before but this lot feel more thorough....they also had the Blue Ceramic almost immediately, day one, and their shipping is DHL and very quick.

Where to buy? 2 cancelled orders later...

So here's my long story short - I've placed 2 orders now for a grey P8000 and still I have no phone. My original order was on October 3rd...
Both are Chinese/HK vendors (Focal Price & iGOGO) showing stock but weeks pass and nothing happens except generic responses to my queries about delays in receiving new stock.
Eventually I just cancel my orders (unfortunately manually via PayPal claims due to a lack of cooperation from the vendors).
Now I know these vendors can be a little shady with little or no customer service but I now wonder should I just give up? It seems there's no easy way for me to get this phone (at least at the RRP)?
I've since pre-ordered the Umi Iron Pro via BangGood but I'm now doubting whether this is a good move due to a lack of development, no open sources and no 800Mhz LTE for the UK. However the design is nice, twin flash, full metal casing, better cameras, OTG support and slimmer(!) bezels.
Would welcome any feedback or suggestions you may have. Such a shame as I really thought I'd have a new gadget to tinker with by now!
Try UK seller.
Although the prices are low there waiting time plus the chance of vat hit put me of Chinese sellers.Took a punt on Ebay UK seller,a £115.99 bid excepted on Friday morning for a gold one.
Royal Mail site entered tracking number and states waiting arrival to them at 9 am yesterday,so fingers crossed should be here by Thursday.
So with the price at the moment £113.81 on Focalprice can not see the benifit of buying there, what if its faulty etc.
Hi,
why not buy it in the manufacturers shop?
I bought my phone @ "elephone DOT hk" (sorry, I am not allowed to post a link here as a fairly new user) and didn't have any problem except the price was a bit higher but no problems with delivery etc.

Thanks for replying. Can I ask the name of your eBay seller? I'm tempted by the gold metal and then buying a black battery cover off AliExpress to tone down the carbon fibre effect!

I've seen this link before: http://www.elephone.hk/online.htm
Due to the numerous links, I personally found it a bit hard to differentiate between authorised resellers, third-parties and the 'official' store.
Hi,
not 100% sure that this is the official store, but from my research it looked good and as I have received my phone I guess they aren't bad
Have a look at Dealsmachine.com. Just got mine from them. Took just one week from ordering to receive in Canada via DHL and their customs valuation was very positive in my favour !

The carbon fibre effect is actually really nice! The black cover is probably more grey but it would soften the look a bit
Well I've now cancelled my Umi Iron Pro pre-order - can anyone recommend a UK-based eBay seller?
I've used Geekbuying (based in China) on a number of occasions to purchase phones and tablets. In each case the process has been hassle free with the goods despatched around a week from the order point (assuming in stock). I'm also in UK and like the fact that the small delay in despatch is because this retailer checks the item works and configured it for the UK before sending the item out. I've always used the very cheap DHL option which means once despatched the item is with me within 3 days with full tracking on route.
I don't have any links to this company but have found them reliable.
Sent from my U65GT using Tapatalk
I used Everbuying.net. I ordered in August and the phone only arrived in October, so it was at least 2 months wait. I assume they have stock now, as the phone went on special not long ago.
As mentioned above I used Everbuying with no problems and fast delivery. Just did a quick check and is on sale for less than 100.00 GBP - $149.99 US which is what I paid. Fast dispatch on gold (3-5 days) but longer on other colours (4-10 days). I assume they got a decent sized shipment and are now blowing it out. I was a little leery of them but have no complaints at all and my import cost was about 8% including DHL brokerage fee even though we have 12% tax so that gives an idea of how they valued it for customs purposes.

Thanks - I bought the grey model yesterday from their sister seller (same contact details plus also listed in Hayes) and they've emailed me this morning to say the grey is out of stock and can only offer the gold!
I've accepted the gold but would quite like a free case or something to make up for it! I do wonder if I've just been extremely unlucky so far...

The grey ones are damn nice but my partner wanted gold and have ordered the gold clock cover from Banggood.
If getting a silicon case it would hardly be noticable but then you lose the lovely look, but then you could buy a grey cover to replace the gold one.
Just checked on Elephone site and grey one for P7000 is £8.56 so P8000 one should be available soon?
Gearbest was great with me, and a friend of mine also bought one from Gearbest which arrived successfully. They had some stock issues initially but were honest about it, and my patience paid off. They usually dispatch from China after 5 days and send it through Express postage. From dispatch, it arrived within 7 days by courier. I paid $159.99 (£109 at the time), and after two months with the device, its fantastic and was worth the wait - the stock ROM was perfectly usable with a few bugs, but the Eragon ROM has completely sorted these. Knowing what I know now, ensuring a strong developer community should be a very high priority when buying a china phone.

Got a message this morning to say it's been dispatched with a Royal Mail tracking number but it's not showing on their system yet.
There's obviously a massive supply problem with the grey model and it wouldn't surprise me if these 3rd party sellers are expecting new deliveries of stock from Elephone that just keep on getting delayed?
I paid £110 and have been promised a £3(!) refund to cover the inconvenience
I'm considering buying the black battery cover though:

Black and gold might be a good look after all...

Best Place to buy for UK

Hi,
I would like to buy this phone and get it shipped to the UK. I know about the lack of some UK bands and I am happy with it in my area. I have seen it on ali express and geekbuying but have no experience as to buying a phone from there and what import taxes they hit. Where would you recommend I get one?
I have sene it in a couple places:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Xia..._6&btsid=47921e20-e42d-4dc6-a153-d53e0513952a
http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xiaomi-Mi-5S-4GB-128GB-Smartphone---Gray-372738.html
I am assuming this phone is out yet? or are these just suppliers saying it wil eb a long delivery as they havnt got it yet?
Chris
Check out oppomart. They ship from EU so there shouldn't be import charges. $20 for shipping. They seem to have the best prices
Thanks, that does look like decent prices. Shame the grey isn't available yet. Have you used them before?
No haven't used them
I used oppomart to preorder the Redmi Pro.
It hadn't shipped 4 weeks after the shipping date published on the site (which also hadn't been updated) and I'd heard nothing from them. This was 6 weeks after I placed the preorder.
They were quick to refund and cancel the order on request though.
I would note that the seller you linked claims "Tariff Free" which may be customs related or may simply mean that it's a handset only (rather than carrier tied).
Top One will cover any EU (UK included) import fees (see here)
AliExpress claims it comes with a 1 year UK warranty, plus they're listed on a few UK cashback sites such as Quidco (7.5% off)
Try eglobalcentral.co.uk. I ordered my note 7 (yes i still refused to give up on it) from there and it arrived safely, very quick and with no custom taxes (their policy also states that they cover the cost of the custom taxes). But just have in mind that they are sending the phones from Hong Kong so if you need to return it or is faulty you have to pay for the posting cost. I also advice you to include mail insurance during checkout just to be sure.
I got my Mi 5 on the way to UK in the Mi Store (in shanghai) . But I have got Mi phones from Banggood and Aliexpress before so they are both good (this was when I was in NZ so idk import charges).

No one is selling the note 7 now apparently so i wouldn't be able to order it from somewhere as they stopped the production. So when i said 'ordered" it man i meant pre-ordered and arrived on 2nd of September , the day of its release before anyone knew about the faulty batrery. But you are right about it not being safe and because they also restrict it on flights i decided to rerurn it back.
Has anyone been able to find a black/grey varient? All I keep finding is a pre order. Is the black version released yet?
from my searching around all i can find are silver so i think the rest have not been released yet.
Im in the UK and I think I'm gonna order from banggood today
I ordered mine from Geekbuying... was £316 for the 4gb/128gb version but they do take for ever to ship.
I dont mind waiting for slow mail that way you dont get stung with import duty into the UK.

Have you all received your phones by now? And were they with original ROM or customized one?

I want to buy the Oneplus 3. Please read.

Hello, I want to change my actual smartphone and I'm really interested in buying the Oneplus 3 but I have some little questions. For now I'm in Italy, why the price is 399 euro here https://oneplus.net/it/3 and on ebay is more than 420 euro ? Is good to get it from that site ( https://oneplus.net/it/3 ) ? How I will pay for it and how long it take to get it ? Is good to get it or should i search other smartphones ?
Its better if you buy through an official channel. I'd say wait till 14th when Oneplus announces the new device with snapdragon 821. If its indeed a phone better go for that. In this price range, Oneplus is definitely the best phone and it has one of the best developers community.
Because the sellers on ebay want to make money of you back the only legit place to buy is oneplus.net.
Payment is via PayPal, you can see expected delivery just before you place the order.
Is it the best phone? For me it is, especially in this price range. A new phone by OnePlus is expected next week. You can order and cancel if you like the new one better.

Is the Oneplus.net their official site ? I mean, I can pay and not get the phone ? And if I order the phone, how much does it take to get delivered? Btw, I'm going to wait first to see the price of Oneplus 3t.
Yep, only delivery. I think they have some shops in India
you should probably wait for the oneplus 3T
O2 shop sells them in the UK? Maybe there is a local retailer in italy that sells them.
It was quicker for me to buy from O2 as its in stock rather than wait 5 weeks for Oneplus to get stock out!
It is safe to buy from oneplus.net site - I purchased my from there and everything's OK. They have excellent service too - my screen was malfunctioning and they arranged repair here in Germany. Apart from OnePlus you can check Xiaomi Max too - it seems is less expensive and with better hardware (and the screen is 6.44"). However OnePlus 3 is very good phone so You'll be excited how fast and stable is with CM13 based ROM
I am Italian too and I can guarantee that if you buy on their official site you won't have any problems
I've bought the phone for me and my partner and there isn't a better phone!
Also, if you love modding this phone is perfect for you! :good:

Mi mix 2 India release date.

It looks like they are expecting the mi mix 2 to be available in India Jan 24th 2018. My question is I believe these devices will ship with global preinstalled from the factory? If so I'm also assuming those of us that are lazy could wait and buy a version of the phone that has global preinstalled? It's been about 8 years since I last rooted and am not sure I want to mess with it again. Is what I stated accurate? Thanks

Hello,
Actually I think that it will be on sale in India starting tomorrow ! See http://www.mi.com/in/mix2/
Speaking of which, I am from Belgium and in 3 weeks I will be visiting Hyderabad for work for 15 days, and there seems to be a "Xiaomi Home" store 10 kilometers from my hotel ! Definitely I will have a visit.
Do you know if this is where we can have the best prices for any Xiaomi Phone ? Are they in general lower than on Gearbest or other online platforms ?

It is on sale, I've got one. That being said, make sure you check for the availablity of it in the Mi Homes as I think it might not be available there. If it is available there, it might cost Rs. 38,000 instead of Rs. 36,000 (this is just what I've heard about the Mi home pricing, I may be wrong on this).
On gearbest, this costs around Rs. 36,700 in sale without including shipping charges. So it is slightly cheaper to buy from India, though the bigger advantage IMO is that you're buying a sealed unit from the official seller, so you can be assured of a problem free experience.

OnePlus 5t Shipping

Hi,
Does anyone know, why OnePlus doesn't ship to New Zealand or How I can buy OnePlus devices with the OnePlus warranty? Because I am in New Zealand and I cannot order OnePlus devices from there website. I have to buy it from local stores and they provide one year warranty. But if I contact OnePlus, they cannot find out anything on my phone using IMEI number. They say it's a dummy phone and they do not provide any support at all.
I did contact to OnePlus, and they said I can buy from Austrailia if my friends or family is living there. If I order that way then I'll have to pay to the customs and it's gonna cost me more than $1000 NZD.
Any Solutions...???

Your best bet, if you want a decent warranty, would be to wait until someone like PBtech start bringing it to NZ. Since they have a pretty reputable local shop, if any issues crop up, they should sort things out much better than any other parallel import shops. I'm also "very impatiently" waiting for it to come to NZ.
I do not have enough money right now. I had that time. It is available now at http://supero.co.nz/oneplus-5t-64gb-midnight-black/
