Touch problem while charging - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Questions & Answers

Normally the phone behaves fine but when I use the phone while charging, the touch registered by the screen is often erratic and a lot of time touch is registered at a different part of the screen than the one I am touching. This happens for a split second and then returns to normal for a couple of seconds.
Does anyone else face this problem and is there anything I can do about it?
I am currently on AEX ROM, but this issue was also present in stock ROM.

All I know is that I had a similar problem on my playbook tablet when I was using some weird Chinese adaptor for my charger, same as what you describe, it would even register my touch a few milimeters off the screen

Interesting.. I am using the bundled charger, but just in case I will try a different charger and see if things improve. Thanks

[Q] Touch screen issue with USB

I have been having problems with more than one of the Xperia Arc North American units when connected to my development computer via USB.
I've been working on an Android development project for about 8 months and currently have 5 Xperia Arcs in the lab - 2 of them from Rogers and 3 unlocked NA models bought directly from SE. Two out of the three units bought from SE do something strange: they work fine when (USB) unplugged from a computer but as soon as you plug them into a development machine the touch screen starts to act strange, generating spurious touches. This is particularly apparent when you have the keyboard active since you can see extra or random characters generated.
I am guessing that this is a software issue and I am thinking of replacing the ROM with a Cyanogen build. Has anyone else noticed something like this?
Thanks,
pkhynes
I've noticed the touchscreen goes strange when using a BlackBerry charger. Pressing and holding results in random presses all over the screen.

I also see this issue.I think is for the heat. I see that when the phone is plugged the screen and the upper part of the phone warm up and the touchscreen make something strange like fake touch especially on long press

Problems with touch screen when screen is locked and phone is charging...

Since I thought my phone, I've noticed an annoying problem. When my phone is charging in the screen is locked, I go to unlock the phone and the touch screen seems to have a problem registering my touch for the pattern password.
I would unplug it for a second to draw the unlock pattern, unlock the phone, and then proceed about while the phone is plugged back in. Then out of nowhere, it'll do the same thing.
Anyone experiencing this?

There is another thread here somewhere that talks about the issues while being plugged in. I think this was one that was mentioned.

i am not getting that problem, but if you call tmobile im sure they will switch the phone.
I've had this problem - but only when I used a different charger from the one included (even though it's a Samsung charger). Are you using the cable included with the phone?
Yea it has happened on mine but only if it was laying down when i try to unlock it. once i pick it up it was fine

I can confirm this very issue on two GSII's I've used. It's annoying.

This is a known issue with all variants of the Galaxy S2.
The Galaxy S2 is very sensitive to input voltage, and if it doesn't like what it's getting, the touch screen calibration gets a little funky.
Voltage-regulated chargers (ones that are big and blocky or have a bulb on the wire) tend to work well.
Don't bother exchanging it over this, it won't change anything. You just need a better charger.
Yes, I'm using the same charger came with the phone. I guess we will just settle this issue with the fact that it just gets a little funky When plugged in.

Big thanks to everyone who responded to this thread, hopefully we can figure out what the problem is in the near future

better charger yes
phone being sensitive not really
all Properly build chargers will not cause that problem
i purchase cheap 2A charger from Deal Extreme, but those are build good, not like some of the crappo accessories from ebay
BlackBerry chargers works good too
I have the same problem.
As many of you guys said, a good charger is needed for a stable voltage input.
I have no problems charging from the original charger and my desktop computer.
However the problem shows when I am using my laptop (7 year old) usb.
So a good charger is recommended.
I can confirm this issue, but what i want to know is, why does this happen when the phone is lying flat on a surface while charging and goes away the moment you pick it up? If it was a faulty or imprecise charger issue then the problem should persist?
My guess is it has to do with the EM shielding around the charging module, and that it doesnt do enough to shield the totally normal residual interference from interfering with the touch screen digitizer. When we pick it up, our hand acts as an interference dampener and minimizes the issue while it is charging, to almost negligible amounts. But its just a guess. The chargers might also be generating greater than average interference as well. But just charger alone cannot explain why pickibg up minimizes the problem.
The charger doesn't cause any erratic behavior on my Galaxy Nexus like it does on this phone... So what is the explanation behind that?

What's unfortunate is that the Samsung charger that came with the device causes the touchscreen issues.
Fortunately, I have an HTC charger lying around that works, no problems.
I have seen this happen with the HD2, Evo 4g, galaxy s4g & Sensation. Its a problem with chargers and the voltage. It happens with those chargers from walmart. Its not just the GS2 phones.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Add the Tmo HD7 to the list.... it happens all touchphones on which i believe has grounds surrounding the phone, touching the touch screen stabilizer or whatever you'd like to call it. It's the ground of the charger, nothing to do with charger instability. Take your laptop's charger, plug it into a wall with no 3rd ground (a laptop that has the 3rd prong) and take that same plug, and plug it into a plug with 3 prongs, you'll notice it has that static-like feeling that makes ur fingers tingle (when you touch a metal part of your laptop). It's the same issue with our phones
I hope this helps someone
Just change charger i have noticed that since i work in a cellphone company .... but i change to a different charger and it stopped doing that....
I used another charger but the problem still exist

Screen doesn't respond to the touch

Well, it seem every phone I use in last 6 month getting this disease when you swipe or touch on screen and nothing happens, or when you press one key on keyboard and it inputs completely different character from opposite side of the screen...
Just now I had the same exact crap going on on Nitro!
I pressed and hold on back button on the gb keyboard and it was acting like I'm pressing random keys at 50 keys per second!
But before that I had trouble unlock the phone, since the slide off motion didn't register at all, the slider would move a few pixels and go back.
The weird fact is the most noticeable this occur when phone is plugged in and charging, unplug it and problem usually goes away or at least become manageable.
What the hell I'm doing to these phones that causing this? Actually this is the first phone where I f.k with the system files, all others I either used CWM or market, nothing else.
I have not had any touch screen issues with this phone other than its just a hair less sensitive compared to my captivate.
[email protected], are you a ghost? I have heard that sometimes phones will act strangely during use if you are a ghost. Something to do with spiritual electromagnitism. This would also explain why you are having compass issues!
Okay, so back to being serious. I've had the EXACT same issues you speak of when my phones (yes, this has happened to other phones too) were connected to 'dirty' power.
What I mean by 'dirty' is either a power supply that was very low quality or using a USB cable that the phone didn't like. Just recently my Nitro was acting erratically while I have it plugged into my computer. It shouldn't have been a problem because I was using a high quality, well shielded Blackberry branded cable (worked perfectly fine with my Nexus One), but as soon as I used the usb cable that came with the Nitro then everything worked correctly again.
Hope this helps!

Just got the same problem. Tried everything listed here to fix it. No luck.
Any other suggestions ?
I've found what Namuna said to be true. Also, I experienced this issue with my phone plugged into the power strip on the nightstand. Apparently there is a grounding issue in that power strip.

Could be it. I use a power bar also. Plus I think I'm using a cable from a galaxy nexus now that I think about it.
Maybe I'll try to find an official lg cable.

I haven't had a complete loss of touch responsiveness, but I have experienced the erratic behavior; but only when plugged in and only while charging in AC mode. I've noticed this a lot more since I dropped my phone with the charging cable attached... I can be in USB mode and the slightest touch will knock it off charge yet I have no touchscreen problems. Once, every now and then, I am lucky enough to get into fast charging AC mode; which is much more stable as far as touching and using while charging... but the screen is almost unusable due to the erratic touches. I turned on "show touches" in developer options and while in AC mode, it shows multiple touches in a horizontal line relative to where my finger is. It even affects my soft keys.
Happens with every charger I've tried; my original charger, both HTC chargers I have, and a charger I found a few weeks ago. I've experienced the problem in my house, multiple hotels, and a few other places; both with and without a power bar. Pretty much, what I'm saying, I'm sure I've been connected to a good grounded source of power, yet I still experienced those problems.
Out of curiosity... have any of you either replaced or had your digitizer replaced? I've replaced mine twice, and my problems began shortly after cracking the screen the 2nd time.
Well i tried the charger that came with my optimus g (using a power bar ) and it seems to work fine now.
One more thing i did was try it without my memory card for a bit. I don't know if that had anything to do with it also.
Anyways so far so good.

[Q] Touchscreen behaves erratically when charging

Hey All
Today I picked up an HTC One M8.
Have set it up and only had it up and running for a few hours.
I plugged it in to charge using the charger that came with it and noticed that the screen would become erratic. Phantom touches would register making it very hard to use. Have tried it in different sockets but the issue remains.
I have tried a spare charger that I have in the house and the issue is not present.I know the HTC charger is a little different in that it supports some kind of quick charger, so its not really a like for like swap I guess.
Is there a chance that the included charger is faulty? Or could the phone be at fault?
I really don't want to have to return it but will it it looks like its the phone that has an issue.
Thanks
Well, at this point its hard to guess from here. Can you upload some snaps/videos ? It would be helpful for anyone who visits the thread. It doesn't take much time either. :good:
Is it a brand new phone? if not I think the digitizer is going bad.

Do you have a case on your phone? I have a UAG case and the charger sometimes doesn't fully click leading to that behaviour. Without the case there is no problem using the phone while charging.
Maybe the stock charger is faulty. Probably the wires has lost continuity.
I have the same issue with a unofficial charger (2.0A).
No issue with original charger (1.5A)
You are not alone
I also have a HTC One M8 with the same problem!
I have to disconnect the USB cable so that I can use the phone correctly without 'phantom touches' activating things I didn't want.
A classic example is pressing the back button will more often than not take me to google now. It's not supposed to do that. It only ever does this when charging.
Also when using any app the phantom touches will activate things I didn't want it to. Some apps will indicate which button you clicked and this is the perfect way to see this problem in action, because buttons will be clicking that you didn't even touch.
It's almost like the touch screen becomes ridiculously sensitive and even just a touch of breeze from a fan can activate a phantom touch.
My phone has done this since brand new. I've had the phone for around 3 months now. There was a software update since I had the phone and it didn't fix the problem.
It does this for me with the stock USB cable, samsung USB cable, generic USB cable, charging from AC/PC/Car it doesn't matter.
It even has the problem when the battery is at 100% with the cable connected.
The only way to accurately use the phone is to unplug the cable!

Erratic Touch on Verizon HTC One M8
This has been driving me mad.
Got Verizon Variant Red HTC One M8 near the beginning of August.
I bought a spigen clear case, a longer usb cable, and a 2AMP charger to use at work. I was chewing through the battery while playing Clash of Clans on it at work.
I pretty much always turn on visual feedback for touch on my smartphone now and noticed sometimes while playing Clash I would see multiple touches go in a horizontal line across my screen (if you do not know you play clash of clans in a horizontal position so technically the lines would run vertically down the phone)
I also have a tempered glass screen on my phone so I figured it was some kind of freak nuance with the case pushing the glass or something.
Bought a UAG Case for my phone, few days later I notice the same behavior, bought cases have a small "lip" to protect the screen if you drop the phone face down, I again figured this must be the culprit and bought a new case.
Barely there Clear case by casemate, I have had the case for 3 days and today is my first day at work since, immediately upon connecting my charger I noticed the erratic touch behavior.
At this point I realized it was never the case, it has to be something with charging in general or the specific charger I am using.
Anyone got any clue what is actually causing this issue?

Hi guys, any news?
I'm experiencing the same issue and this is driving me mad.
Experiencing this with different chargers. My cover is a Spigen Ultra Hybrid Metal Slate...if I put it off, theres no problem while charging
Greetings from Switzerland
Hi guys,
I have faced the issue as well. In my case, if I charge the phone using the dot view case then the touchscreen behaves wrongly. However, if I charge the phone with no case at all it works fine.
Anyway after I flashed the latest firmware (.401.6) the problem is gone. What firmware do you have?
Cheers.
Hi Guys,
For anyone interested, I have just noticed that it happened depending on the charger also.
Cheers.
I have the same problem
Using htc one m8 developer edition 4.4.2. This issue comes with every charger. With or without case or screen protection.
Yep, I've noticed this issue as well. Any solution?

If it's brand new, take it back for a replacement. The sooner the better because the longer you wait, the more they may think it is user caused.
I just got my phone replaced due to bad mic. I had a brand new one on release day and now I got a refurb both suffered the same issues. It's not always that it does it but it certainly pisses you off. Same symptoms as the op describes, I have yet to find a permanent solution.
This is so super irritating. I feel you. I just found out though that it occurs when I have my case on.. So whenever i use the phone when I'm charging I have to pull the case off. It really doesn't make any sense lol but this is my workaround for this bug.
I also have the same problem
It seems to occur when the phone is close to full charge. Every app goes crazy. When I unplug the charger it returns to normal.

I have the same issue with mine; I found a website which said to do the following:
Using two fingers swipe down on the status bar then touch the gear icon > Display & Gestures > G-Sensor calibration
Place your phone on a flat surface then touch Calibrate.
After the calibration process has finished tap Ok.
You should also calibrate the finger touch on your screen to deal with the keyboard issue.
Open “Settings” and go to “Language and Keyboard”
Tap “HTC Sense Input”
Tap “Advanced”
Tap “Calibration tool” (Calibrate your screen for a better touch experience)
Now you are asked to type the given sentence
One done, Calibration Complete message appears
Hit “Reset Calibration” to reset screen to factory default

It's still present, but it hasn't been as bad - I turned on the visual feedback in the developers settings, and you can watch the cursor fly all about the screen like it's possessed!
Same issue here, on the latest software. This is my second m8 with the same issues.

[Q] Touch response while Charging

Hi,
I am facing this issue since 2days. The touch response is going crazy whenever the phone is connected to a charger. I am using this phone for almost a month now and never got this problem before. After I installed a Tempered glass protection, the issue started. normally (while not charging), with the screen protector, touch works good. Only when connected to the charger, the problem occurs.
After googling, people suggeted to check for the genuine charger & the powersupply. No problem with the Charger / cable. I have used the same before - even in the same port.
It seems like, while charging, the touch sensitivity is very less. I have to press hard to get it work.
Is there any way to increase the touch sensitivity while charging?? - Please help.
Thanks in advance

Try a different cable. This happened to me on another phone before. The USB cable was starting to short out.
screen and charging
just like KB112 said, change out your cable, i had the same problem and found out the G2 requires a certain amperage when charging and will cause problems with screens. You can use the standard .7a charger that goes to most other phones but will cuase ya grief. G2 requires the 2A charger it came with. course my problem ended up worse then the wrong cable i had to replace my phone cuase the screen wouldnt work while charging period, no matter what charger i used.
I HD a similar problem with my EVO 3D. That problem happened when I used certain kernels.

I have the same issue after putting the tempered glass on the screen.
I have also noticed without the tempered glass. this happened when i connected weaker charger of 1A.
When I bought new genuine LG charger for G2 I also continued to have issues with screen responsiveness with tempered glass on it.
So bottom line is with tempered glass on the screen you are bound to have weaker response of the touchscreen when connected to the charger ,and that it is.
So...only thing you changed was screen protector. I think you have identified your problem.

Problem seems like resolved!!
Thanks guys for your valuable replies....
I happened to find a small method which works for me.
Try disabling the "Auto Screen Rotation"...
Whenever this is disabled, the screen is responsive while charging (with the tempered glass)...
Hope it may help someone...
Thanks again...
