I have just purchased the official Galaxy SII Desktop Dock. I'm new to Android but I have switched to using Launcher Pro as my launcher and I'm wondering if there is any way to stop the device switching over to the Samsung "Desk Clock" application when it is placed in the desktop dock. Every time I hit the Home button when the device is in the Dock, the Desk Clock application comes to front, rather than the default launcher. I prefer not to use the Desk Clock application.
In the manual for the Desktop Dock it states:
"You can set whether to launch the Desk Clock application on your phone when you connect a Samsung phone to the desktop dock. For more information about the Dock settings, see your phone user manual."
I can't seem to find any reference to this. I'm hoping it's just my ignorance.
The only reference to "Dock Settings" I can find in the full user guide (from the Samsung website) doesn't say much:
Dock settings● Audio output mode: Set to use the connected dock’s speaker when your device is connected to a car or desktop dock.
And that's it... no mention of the Desk Clock
Thanks. That's exactly what I found.
There has to be some way to stop the home button from displaying this special mode when it is in the desktop dock.
Dock No-Op did the trick.
Should have spotted this before but I'm new to Android and still getting used to the fact that the Market has a lot more than I'm used to with my last phone, which was a Windows Mobile
Does that mean that it doesn't show that clock after some number of minutes of idle in the dock? Even with the brightness turned all the way down that thing is way to bright at night.
Have you tried Kaloer Clock...? It's the mutts, and you can customise it till the cows come home (inc your desired brightness....)
Great app really works and prevent to sleep the phone...the only question is: can I damage (burn out) pixels when using it whole night and every night?

edit: you're right!!! in screensaver mode the time is every two minutes or so changes position whoooo cant wait for dock...

When I connect to my Car dock I get dark maps in Google Navagation???
How can I reset that to a normal light map?
I use the dock to charge the phone at night but the clock keeps coming on in the middle of the night by itself
id love to have this all the time but im really scared about burn in,
as it automatically changes position every two min is there a chance in burn in still?

You would only possibly get burn in if it were to stay put in the same position...I say possibly, because I'm sure the Sammy techies would've thought about this and tested for it because it is an obvious concern to have.
When the clock's screensaver mode kicks in though, the time moves every minute or two as you noted, so there will be zero chance of any burn in of the screen.
I use Kaloer Clock though, so I'm not sure about the standard Sammy desktop clock coming on by itself in the night...maybe it's a setting in there that makes it wake on the hour or something...don't know tbh, but it won't be doing any damage.

yea i push the sleep button but through the night the phone screen wakes when fully charged, as i am sleeping this means i cant put it back to sleep, therefore clock comes on after a while and thus for the rest of the night.
but i love the feature and would have no problem with it if not for burn in.
as for Willie_Heckerslyke's comments it is logical that sammy would have tested this as feature has been put on the phone.
Will having the S2 attached to the official dock all the time when being at home affect battery life?
Feel like spamming every dock thread with this question.
I don't think that it has a big affect on the battery. But the worst thing that could possibly happen is that you'll need a new battery in a year. So i wouldn't care about that

I see, but how come the phone shows the popup "Battery is fully charged, remove it..." .. I mean, why even show it then?
I don't own a dock but i guess its the counter part of "your phone is fully charged. Unplug it"
I'm not sure but i guess it decalibrates the battery more if you charge it longer than necessary. And maybe reduces the max capacity of the battery a tiny bit every time. But this won't stop me feom charging my phone overnight.
Btw: i do have a very unhealthy charging habit.. i always put the phone next to my pillow without airplane mode or so.. if it catches fire while charging (i read that could theoretically happen) i've got a problem too.. :-/ so i should be more worried about my health than my battery's..

Thanks for your help and sarcasm. I will from now on, charge it during the night, get up at 4 am unplug the phone and go back to sleep. Will have a glass of water next to me in case, as you said, a fire starts and I need to cool out.
I'm running Nova and CWM9 and whenever I connect the phone to USB or a charger the phone wakes up automatically forcing me to push the power button evey time I connect it to turn off the screen.
Anyone know if it's possible to disable this "feature"?
Thanks!
I believe stock does that too. That would be an interesting tweak if it's not already around! In terms of disabling, I'm not sure there is an option to do so.

Confirm stock does it as does Apex; presumably it's set somewhere basic in ICS
Its in developer options. Untick 'stay awake' (if I understand the question!)

And this is a problem why? Its just indicating to you that its plugged in properly and charging... the screen will time out and turn off a few seconds later.
Thanks for checking!
It is interesting that Google would assume everytime you plug the phone in (and unplug the phone) you would want it to wake up. Considering the short battery life these phones have, lots of charging would be commonplace and therefore lots of connecting/disconnecting without the intent to actually use the phone.
I could see giving people the option to have the phone do that - but for me the unplug wakeup is especially annoying because I have to turn it off everytime I go to put it in my pocket.

Well considering by stock there's no charging LED indicator, turning the screen on momentarily to indicate a charging state is a smart idea.
Also, if you're plugging it in, why are you worried about the battery drained by keeping the screen on for 10 seconds? 10 seconds.

Well that's that I thought too, but sometimes it doesn't go back to sleep like it should and I'll notice my pocket getting quite warm pull it out and it's still on.
It could be a bug in the ROM I'm running (not going to sleep correctly all the time) but I don't remember my DINC doing that so I figured it was something that just needed to be disabled.

Hmm, I did have this option enabled - mainly because when I connect it to the charger I do like it to stay on -prime example using Slacker Radio in my car when plugged into the dock.
Maybe I'll try a different ROM since it seems the problem isn't so much that I need to disable to wakeup on connect/disconnect but instead I need the sleep function to be more reliable so I don't have a mini oven on my pocket.
Thanks!
A great option for your car dock needs would be to introduce something like the app Tasker. Then you could leave the screen off but have tasker set it to constant on and load slacker when the Bluetooth connection to your car happens.

Got myself my first Qi charger, and when i put my nexus 7 on that, it doesn't notify me when charging starts. (i can still see Charging message on lock screen when turning screen manually on)
Stock rom, rooted. Build number: JSS15J
I could always do this thing via tasker, but shouldn't android have something like that already?
I've got the Nexus 4 wireless charger, and I notice sometimes when I put the Nexus 7 on it, I get a little "gingle-gingle" noise, and sometimes I don't, but I see the battery icon get the lighting bolt that says it is charging every time.
Seems that it magically started to do that sound again.. odd, very odd... I hope it continues to work
Hi,
I'm experiencing a problem of which I'm not certain it's ROM related or Android 4.3 related. My device doesn't recognize anymore when it's charged by a wireless charger. It does charge, also with normal charging rate but it simply doesn't detect it's being charged wirelessly.
I'm really annoyed by this issue because I'm using a Tasker profile which switches off al my lights (Milight) and kills my notification LED and sound when Im going to sleep and does the same in reverse when lifting my phone from the charger (trigger = wireless charger, wireless charger is right next to my bed). Does anyone else have this problem?
Secondly, the notification LED is not blinking while charging despite all options I try (very slow, slow, normal, fast, etc.). And yes, I also tried this without tasker running (so my tasker profile won't effect my notification LED settings).
I hope someone can help me out.
Device: E986
Rom: Vanir Stable Build - 4.3.1 12/6/2013
Update: same issue on CM 11, no one can help me out? :s
Can someone at least let me know if they also experience this problem on 4.3 or 4.4 please??
Hi guys,
does anyone know a way how to enable wake up on charge on an S9 (G960F) with OneUI 2.0 (aka official Android 10 ROM)? This has been the default behaviour prior to OneUI 2.0 upgrade - I believe all Samsung phones did that since like Android 7.x. But some people seemed to dislike it so they removed it now.
So far I tried Routines (Good Lock module) with no success.
My use case is to put a sleeping phone to a Qi charging stand on my desk, let the phone wake up automatically and then timeout back to sleep while turning on the screensaver (Chronus Pro in my case). I don't want the phone to never sleep while charging. I also don't want to use an always on display instead of a screensaver. I just want my phone to wake up when it starts charging.
nvm, its not there anymore. sorry mate, it slooks like 3rd pty apps is your fix
Well of course I need a third party app. Tasker seems to do the trick but feels like a huge overkill. Any other tips? I'd rather stick with something free.
Solved. Set up a simple macro in Macrodroid. I even limited it to daytime so it only does its job when I'm at work.
