Anyone here still using CM11?

Just got a bit tired of little bugs in the CM13 based roms and thinking about switching back to CM11. The only concern is the lack of security updates after the maintainers abandoned the projects for newer android versions.
Did anyone here try downgrading? Or maybe never upgraded? Is it wise to do so?
Some of my issues with CM13 based roms which have put me off:
Insane lag when reciving calls
Adopting Storage doesn't work half the time
Front Camera crashes
Mobile Data issues
Lock Screen Wallpaper Issue
Music suspend bug
Battery drain Issue

LOL brother. I am still using CM 11 build 14/11/15 with Xcelerate kernel build 4/12/15.
I still used this OS as it gives me atleast 500+mb ram which I require a lot for gaming.
At battery 100%............(with airplane mode on)...wifi on After 3hrs of continuous wifi gaming my battery drops to around 20%.
So I guess battery life is good.......though i haven't activated any sim cards(that would be a different story)
I don't have any voice(call) related problem though. Only bug is HDR. Once a picture is clicked with HDR on, you have to exit camera to click again in HDR mode
I actually need a CM 13 rom which provide such performance.(I was thinking about Slim rom 0.4 by Aniket Lamba)
So if anyone can suggest me better rom then please let me know. For me stability & usability matters more than recent builds.
I always will appreciate any information whether good or bad

I used to like KK as it was last in the line of the Holo interface and it was the only 4.x available for our phone, so I used it for fairly long and didn't switch to LP until MM came around. Along with Xcelerate it was really good: decent battery life, smooth experience and fast charging. But now that I've grown to like the Material interface as well, I've been using MM more often these few months, especially Slim6, which I feel gives the same feel I used to get on KK: stability and smoothness.
KK is still one of my more favourite ROMs, but given that KK is mostly dead by now and there are more developments and features in LP and MM, I think I'll just stick to Slim6.

2) I don't use Adoptive Storage, heard it screws with WiFi
3) I don't get this (it has been fixed recently)
4) Depends on ROM
5) GravityBox (for AOSP MM), or this guide (which also works on CM13)
6) Disable MPDecision. Strangely when I downgraded to CM11 I was still getting the bug.

Hate towards KK is only because most of the apps are working great in >LP than in KK. If MIUI with LP is given then it can be easily a great choice for armani. MIUI ram issues have sorted out but only thing is standby time(wifi on) is low.

The music bug persisting after the downgrade is what's keeping me back. I, too, don't use Adoptive storage for all the bugs it brings - even on AOSP. But this means I'm running out of space by the end of the month because of necessary evils like WhatsCrap.
The gravitybox mod is good to know, although I don't use xposed, but really is simply a hassle to effectively change your wallpaper - especially when I'm changing them every other week.
I've recently tried disabling MPDecision - the music seems to be playing fine but I can't help but notice sightly degraded performance all around.

Adoptive Storage is a hassle to set up: you need to format your SD card (which meant I had to shift everything out before converting it), and TWRP has no way to read such encrypted storage, so I didn't use it after the first time I tried it. Also you could do with regular housekeeping of your phone's storage; usually I keep WhatsApp images for a year before deleting them (after keeping the important ones and archiving the rest).

Xposed is very helpful, but if you don't want to use it then I won't force you.
Generally in those CM12/13 ROMs if I wanted to switch between lockscreen wallpapers I would leave a couple of those wallpapers in the /data/system/users/0 folder, just renamed to let me know which file is which wallpaper. Whenever I wanted to change them I just renamed them to the proper filename.

You don't have to leave MPDecision off the whole time: just disable it when listening to music, and re-enable it afterward.

Note: I don't have music stop bug in CM11 though( may be related to firmware version or kernel. don't know why different people have different bugs:silly

What I think is that the KK firmware/modem we all flashed for CM13 builds has something to do with the music suspend bug. This is probably the reason why downgrading back to CM11/12.1 doesn't seem to fix this issue.
Anyway, seems like I'll just stick with CM13 for now.

Well not really, as the same v7.0.5.0 is used for CM11, 12 and early 13 builds. It's most likely a kernel issue, given that disabling MPDecision fixes it somewhat.

Worth rooting?

I just bought a oneplus 3 (offerup $200 use). Havent been in the rooting scene for a while thanx to the gs7 edge. Now that i do have a device that can be root and bootloader unlock i know there're great support.
The thing is, this device seems the snappier device i ever own. Little to non bloware and really fast. Cant imaging been faster. There any reason to root this device. If u did. Why and what rom r u using?

i am using the freedom os because of its preinstaled apps like xposed, viper4android, a theme engine. basicaly stuff that i could not get working on OOS. and there is supose to be better battery life i havent seen that (maybe because of my extreme usage). i get 4hrs SOT

The OP3 is the first phone that I didn't root to achieve extra performance, but to improve Android. After using a rooted phone for the last 2 years I can't live without AdAway and a combination of Greenify/Disable Wakelock/Xposed/Amplify to control what my phone is doing, not to mention really useful things like Tasker, customizing the Alert Slider and many many more. Nowadays, flagship phones aren't rooted for performance.
That being said, I am disappointed by the responsiveness of the OP3. On OOS 3.2.7 it is LESS responsive than my 2year old OnePlus One running CM14.1 nightly. Disappointing, but getting my hopes up for when the CM14.1 nightlies for the OP3 get good. Which is the biggest plus point in my opinion - software updates. If you have root, you can have the newest version of Android anyday, not having to wait for OnePlus to update it (which they take way too much time for).
All in all, if you know what you are doing, root your phone. It is worth it.

U got me pretty much convince to root mine. The only other stock android experience for me has been nexus 6p and this phone stock is much faster and fluid. Im concern about instability of using a rom like CM or other rom that has so many tweak to improve it but mess uo other things. Have u try cm14.1. Or how about CM.13 how solid is that right now?

I'm not rooted....running community build stock...3.5.5 is stable, great performance...get 5hr SOT with 15% left...over 24 hrs... phone is a great performer...

I root all of my Android devices, tablets and phone, primary for customizations and backup. I like having a full nandroid backup incase something ever goes wrong. This way I am assured that I can recover to a previous working state. I know you can often find factory image out there for just about any phone, but I will also backup at a point in time once I have everything exactly as I like. Again, this allows me to roll back to exactly how things were before I started tinkering. Running Xposed and theming, is another big reason to root. However fiddling with these can sometimes go bad so having a nandroid backup is handy.
For me, I am still running stock on 3.2.7. I find it extremely fast and stable. Been looking at the other roms, but have not found a need to switch from stock yet. I am getting 4 - 5 hrs SOT consistently, stock so again, have not found compelling need to switch roms, but am playing with different Xposed modules so that alone is reason to root.

Oh yes for sure... Adaway alone makes it worthwhile
Also check out Android explained on YouTube.. Very well explained, instead of just following some tutorial and not really understanding... Android explained breaks everything down so now I have an understanding of how my device operates.

There's a lot of great stuff you can do with root. For me the best features are: much better battery life, GUI customization, and OGYoutube (basically YT Red for free, and yes, there's a nonroot version but the root is better).

IT bus corp guy and like others said AdAway, Youtube ad blocker, TB to backup apps and be able to save app come back previous version when dev mess it it....all just a must have for me.
I am on Resurrection Rom not OOS so still have that Android Nexus experience since I came from 6P and not slow with any responses...quick, stable

Install xposed and enjoy Google assistant, N-ify, YouTube background player etc.

Personally i'm not rooted, for the first time in years, someone earlier mentioned nandroid backups they require TWRP but not root.

My concern with rooting is the updates. I hate setting up the phone after clean install since we dont have anything like icloud. I know ubcan dirty flash the updates but there so much there up to a point that u would have to clean install and update. Like going from MM to nougat. Quote if im wrong but i havent been in the rooting scene for a while. I remember titanium backup use to break alot of things when i did a restore

I have used Titanium Backup once, didn't work at all, I was really disappointed. Although this was years ago, I never tried it again and don't want to. Anyway - when switching ROMs, I always make sure that Whatsapp syncs everything with the cloud, all accounts in the 'accounts' setting menu of the system have synced, that my Google Photos are synced and then copy pretty much everything from /root/sdcard (your internal memory) to my computer. Then I completely wipe my phone (= wipe system+data+cache+internal storage), install the new ROM, boot it once to see howwell its working, power it down, factory reset it (wiping data) and then copy all of the data of my computer back to the phone, set everything up with my google account and let google download everything. If you have correctly configured the app-backup function of Google, then everything will be about 95% the same, and nothing will be missing. Be sure not to forget to make a TWRP backup of EVERYTHING before full-wiping the phone, so you can always go back if you really need to.
I prefer this method to anything else because you will never any problems with restoring from the cloud or performance issues of certain file-structures being different or whatever. It is clean and works.

I have not tried CM13, and I will ait until sultanxda brings his goodness to CM14.1, then I will switch but - as I have used sultanxda's ROMs on my OnePlus One I can definately recommend t Install his version of CM13 on the OnePlus 3 instead of the nightlies, his optimisations und his update frequency are fantastic and he is a great ROM maker. His ROMs on the OnePlus One made me rediscover the full potential of the device, it's truly amazing.

Last question. Any bugs that needs to be fix from the CM 13 rom

Not for me. I am no longer OCD about my phone.. don't care what color the signal strength font is, etc... The phone works so well stock, that there isn't much I would change other than adding some functionality with the camera and some good video editing software...
I played with a few ROMs, they were ok, but once the newness wore off(2 days) I went back to stock, and am now running the Community builds and like them the best.
Fast, stable, great battery life... no complaints...

Looking for info. Solid Rom suggestions only.

Got me a Z5p E6853 over a year ago.
Stock rom is ok, a bit laggy but runs well enough. over time it gets stale and I looked around for Custom roms.
Tried a few, mainly the AOSP roms on this Forum and the Z5 fourm. found some bug or another that didn't sit well with me. custom stock roms causes a display failure on my device for some reason at random times, sometimes more than once a day, others will run for weeks without a problem. happens at the oddest times too so no way to pin down the cause. (plus all the devs from those roms have moved on so little point in requesting help for them)
So my main question is. other than going back to full stock. (with the possibility of xposed in the future) - What are the current best roms for function and Camera.
Stock roms take advantange of the DRM keys saved on your device. AOSP roms don't from what I can understand. is there a Lineage or AOSP type rom that has a better camera than stock?
what have the users here experienced to be their best combination of rom, with long term stability / Camera quality being top priority.
I don't normally ask Questions here, I usually lurk and help people with problems with flashing and such. but my current experiece with the Z5p has been a bit poor. and I would like to use this phone to its full potential. I just don't see that yet with whats currently available. I may have missed an old rom, or some patch fix that someone mentioned somewhere, but i've been reading the threads for the past few months looking for something that stands out.
I feel like I've bought into a dud of a phone. and my only real option is to just go back to normal stock and pass the phone onto a relative and buy a better phone.

Hey there. I used to have an HTC One M9 (I now have the Z5 Premium (E6853))and the best decision I've ever made with that phone is to keep the stock rom, but root it (preferably with magisk). For me this had the best stability with all the perks of rooting it as you could still flash kernels, and use the millions of root apps that boost your phone and clean out bloatware. Maybe just do some exploring into apps that'll completely change the behaviour of your phone, rather than the OS. What I have found in my rom flashing addict days is that the ROMs themselves really only change a couple of things and device performance is never one of them. If you're looking for massive customisation options a custom rom can help, but you should also check out Substratum. I hope it all goes well!
P.S. - I find Lineage OS is probably the most stable custom rom out there but who knows every custom rom can be a real hit and/or miss.

Z2 Plus overall usability review with custom roms and bugs, battery life, heating etc

Hi Z2 plus users.
After lot of analysis and research, I finally ordered Lenovo Z2 plus today. Got a great deal.
8k INR / approx 125 USD
I have the option of getting Redmi Note 4 as well at approx 150 USD / 10k
I have gone through lot of videos on youtube with different custom rom reviews of Z2 plus, pros, cons etc.
My main concerns are:
- Battery Life
- Heating issue
- Overall usability without digging into custom rom installations and updates very frequently. I will install custom rom but would like to use it as daily driver for few months at least before I look for new updates etc. (Time is the issue - Don't get much of it these days to do all the research and experiments )
With custom roms like AICP, Jaguar - how is the battery life in terms of SOT?
How is the heating issue with custom roms which this phone is infamous for?
I saw a review from Indian tech reviewer on youtube suggesting Jaguar R14 is very stable and good rom for this. But I see some complains and users posting different issues in Jaguar rom thread.
Kindly suggest, if it will be good to go for this phone now (after 1.5 yrs of it's launch)?
Can I expect to use it as daily driver without any significant issues for next 2-3 years with custom roms?
At present which custom rom will you suggest with regards to Battery life and heating issue resolution?

I do not have the device yet and that is my dilemma whether to accept it or return it.
Does these roms also have overheating issues?
How is the battery life on these?

CitrusCAF 3.5 by miju12 seems very stable(dont flash custom kernel unless you know what you are doing) and have favourable review from the users.
and Lenovo z2 is better choice anyway

Got mine today as well. Same deal as the OP (around $120). First thing done was an upgrade to Nougat. Sept 2016 manufacturing and there was still 30% charge left . Device did heat up during upgrade as it was on charge. Haven't observed any major heating since. I have upgraded (or downgraded) from a oneplus 2 so my criteria of heating may be somewhat biased. A 5 inch display does seem smallish though.
Geekbench 4 was 1720, 3999 which is par for SD820. So no throttling etc.
Just wondering what is so broken about stock ROM ? What's not going well with everyone on ZUI ? I did tweak the DPI to my liking - other than that ROM feels pretty much stockish android. I mean I have heard so much hate about stock ROM for this device?
Edited - Ok I am starting to see oddities. 1. Double notifications (any fixes?)
And the usual follow up questions -
- Does the U touch specialization / gestures (swiping etc) work on the custom roms for this device ? Edited - Yes I guess.
- Would unlocking bootloader reset the device ? If yes, might as well do it before setting up apps etc. Edited - Yes it would like any other device.

I have been using Rooted ZUI (I believe that’s what the stock rom is called) for a few weeks now (Xposed now, but that’s been just a few days). At first I thought I would keep it stock rooted and get all the things I need with Xposed, but the Notification drawer and Lock screen is getting on my nerves. All notifications are ICS Style, i.e. they are not expandable and they have no quick action (except USB connection to PC which lets u choose cam/file mode). Lock screen has this weird image in the middle which just sits there doing nothing. Notifications doesn't get displayed in lockscreen (weirdly I am getting 1 calendar notification there, but nothing else). I tried enabling lockscreen notification for a lot of apps, but it seems to just allow calendar and nothing else.
The U-touch is awesome BTW, but wont let me start Google Assistant voice through it (I like being able to set alarms through it)

Need a custom ROM -- help me

I hate the stock rom of A2 Lite. Too slow and the background apps keep reloading. I need a custom rom, I already asked on other threads and no one seems to care. I'm a noob, never flashed so I don't have experience and the support is terrible around here. Please tell me which custom rom works fast and stable as of now. I need Gapps and Instagram to work, banking app, google maps. Also no bugs with incoming calls, audio or fingerprint sensor please. I don't care if it's A11 or A12, it just needs to have fast performance, battery life and background optimization. And most of all Instagram, since all the mods seem unable to run it decently. I ask for your help, thanks in advance.

Try Derpfest 12. Daily driving it currently, and still pretty good. Reminds you tho that this 5-year-old phone is already kinda slow in general because of the old hardware, so it aint gonna fix it like magic.

Not great, not terrible. I tried a lot of ROMs (especially Android 11 and 12) and safe to say I can't tell the difference between them. So-so, if you ask me.

So you mean it only changes the aesthetics? If that's the case I'd rather stay on stock rom at this point..

I've long gone with stock ROM so I can't compare it. I've heard that Android 12 have more optimization compared to 11 though.
But again back to my point: even though it might fix some of your ROM bugs and hiccups - it's still not magic. Mi A2 Lite is a 5-years-old budget phone. I still got some slowdowns and crashes, no matter what ROM I use.
I mainly change my ROM because I need some features that only available in Android 11 (or 12).

If you need stability you can go back to the original android 8 rom where this phone was fantastic
