WiFi probelms - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

When I am on WiFi the phone disconnects after a period of inactivity, primarily when the phone is locked. Some examples:
1- When I am streaming a movies from the phone to a smart TV the streaming did after a while.
2- When I'm downloading a large file via chrome the download is paused.
I've seen this problem mentioned on numerous forums online and none of the suggestions have worked so far for me, and I'm refusing to follow random suggestions such as reset the phone to factory settings or update to the latest version of the OS unless someone can conclusively tell me that it solves the problem for them.
My WiFi is set to be always on and smart switch is off. I'm on the original release version of the ROM.
Your help to solve the problem is greatly appreciated.

Is there any WiFi Error solution?

I went through google, here, and other android blogs and where I found people who've had a similar problem to mine, there seemed to be no concrete solution.
What I'm talking about is literally in front of my eyes, though I didn't know the extent at the time, the wifi \ bluetooth died. I was listening to a podcast and the wifi turned off. I had no problems that led to this, no issues with the ROM (Energy) and anything else to indicate anything was wrong. So after turning it on it would just say error, and that was it.
Like other posters who've brought this up, I cleared cache and dalvik, went to stock, went to other backups from different ROMS, and still nothing. So is there anything concrete anyone here knows about? Thanks in advance!

So as to fix this problem, some people suggest to do a Factory reset. But, it is completely unnecessary.Instead you can try the following methods, which where tested by me successfully.
1. Dial *#*#526#*#* to reload the wifi driver. If it doesn’t work, restart your phone and dial it once gain.It will work for sure.
2.There is an app “Wifi-Fixer” from android market, which claims to be fix this problem. But seriously,it hadn’t worked for my mobile phone(Samsung Galaxy Ace). But,
if you are interested, can download and try it here.
For HTC users, I have a pretty good trick which works very well.
When you have obtaining IP address problem,
1.Turn off wifi.
2.Open “Allshare”, then you will be asked to connect to a wifi network.
3.Then select the wifi network that you need to connect from the list opened.
Magically, you will be connected without any extra effort. This works 100% sure without fail.
If that doesnt work try this:
1.Dial *#*#526#*#*.Then a message will be shown “Driver loading Successful”.
2.Now Start the WiFi, it should work.
If the message “Driver Loading Unsuccessful” is shown, follow these steps:
1. Dial *#*#526#*#* again and click options button on your phone.
2. Select Rx test.
3. Select Channel >9 .
4. Click Start and exit.
5 . After some time, turn on the wifi.It should work.
It is possible you've fried your wireless card.
Can you test Bluetooth calling?
If enough heat built up for a long enough period of time both could be affected.
ie charging while on wifi using Bluetooth and a heavy CPU workload is a perfect recipe.
Okay Diablo, thanks for the suggestions but of course, it didn't work. So many times I read these threads where people are having trouble for one reason or the other and nothing ever seems to work... Now I'm that guy.
So like I said, I would dial those numbers and nothing would come up. Now I did try wifi fixer and it really looked it was doing something, but again, nothing happened.
And 9h0S7, I'm fearing you may be right... I've read the bluetooth and wifi are on the same antenna, and I can't get the bluetooth working either. A friend of mine checked the board and everything looked fine so visually speaking nothing seemed corroded or messed up in anyway.
Anyway, thank you both for your help and I continue to hope this can be fixed!
Help! No Wifi connection now...
I had the "Wifi Error" problem with my Samsung Galaxy Ace device, so tried to follow the procedure described with Allshare. It didn't work, and now my device is not able to connect via wifi in any way! I've tried restarting the phone many times and dialling the code to reload the driver, I tried to download Wifi fixer, but no method works. The phone "sees" the Wifi network, tries to get the IP address and then disconnects. I don't know what to do... I'm desperate...:crying: :crying: :crying:

[Q] Problems with Google Play Music on M8

Hey everybody,
Having an odd issue with my brand new M8, which is completely stock. Few days ago I've received an firmware update (1.57.111.2 / German T-Mobile CID) for my handset. Since that update I'm not able to use Google Play Music while connected to my wlan network. It seems like, that Play Music is not able to recognize my fully functional connection and therefore refuses to download and/or stream music.
All other apps (including Spotify) are able to use my wlan connection without any problems.
Turning wlan off helps to correct that error, but that workaround burns away my included traffic
Here's what I tried without success:
1. Did a factory reset
2. Deleted all wlan connections and reconfigured them
3. Cleared Play Music's caches
4. Contacted HTC (recommended the factory reset) as well as my provider (didn't have a clue)
5. Checked the number of eligible devices with Google (currently 3 out of 10)
Now I'm a bit puzzled on how to solve this issue and wanted to ask, if anybody did experience (and maybe solved) this issue.
Best,
Marc
I'm having the same problem. I received a update from T-Mobile USA for my M8 this past weekend. Google Play Music can't keep on device or stream with "Download via Wi-Fi only" and/or "Stream via Wi-Fi only" checked in settings. I hope it's not draining my data

I've discussed that issue with some German M8 users (all on T-Mobile Germany) and it appears to be limited to some Google Apps and to HTC Backup. However one user did reach out to T-Mobile and they're basically just stated, that they're currently looking into that without providing any sort of timeframe within to expect an fix for this. Downgrading the firmware fixes the problem, so T-Mobile must be the ones to blame ... very frustrating.
Hi there,
did anyone solve this issue yet? There is a few of us with an M7 that have exact same issues. I am in UK, so may not be carrier related.

Hey,
Thanks for pointing that out. Wasn't aware, that this issue affects the M7 too. Unfortunately, I'm really stuck at the moment as everybody involved is pointing fingers at each others. HTC tells me, that T-Mobile messed up ... T-Mobile at least confirmed, that there might be an error. Right now I'm trying to get my M8 replaced, as somebody did break some functionality of my device. A German M8 user pointed out, that the WLAN App from Amped Wireless can be used to confirm the error, as it is not able to detect an established WLAN connection (like some of the Google apps).
However, no solutions

I'm really glad to have happened upon this thread, as I'm having the exact same issue on an AT&T M8 that I just purchased a couple of days ago. I updated with the new "extreme power mode" firmware, but now I can't pin music from Google Play at all. Similar explanation and attempted fixes as holychain.
I am having the same issue in Google Music. Also Google+ Fotos has the same Problem: The autosync does not recognize the wifi connection.

Guys, I found the solution to this. I am now on ARHD 71.1 with all the google apps working.
Such a simple fix (well for me) - when the phone connects to your wifi at setup, it automatically sets it as a mobile hotspot and restricts background data. It's just a tick box - go here: settings / More (under wireless & networks) / data usage / click the 3 dots top right and select mobile hotspots then untick your wifi network.
Post back if it works for you. I will post on the main ARHD thread as well as it might be something Mike was unaware off.

I still had to reboot and clear data from the app, but this is working for me. Unfortunately, Play Music is extremely slow to download music right now for me...

Oh thank god I found this thread. This fixed the issue for me, as well as fixing Google photos, and Flickr auto upload. I was almost beginning to regret ditching my 5S for the M8 if the whole reason for me finally switching was due to Google Music being more reliable than iTunes Match.
Whomever set that as default is a jerk.

Data connection dying

Hi!
I have a problem with my Ascend P6. It used to work fine, but these days more and more often the GSM data connection just stops to work. It is still turned on, but data are just not transmitted. Turning it off and on does not help, neither switching on and off the air plane mode. The only thing which helps is to restart the phone.
I have had not changed any setting, I have still the original Android (4.2) and no crappy software installed, just same games.
Please, can you help? Can it be fixed, or is it a hardware problem? I imagine in the service centre they would just say they didn't reproduce the problem and/or perform a factory reset at best. And I would be without the phone for like a month, which suc*s.
Thanks

Streaming issues troubleshooting

Hi guys
Need some help troubleshooting an issue.
LG G3 running Android 4.4.2 stock from LG/provider.
Since I got the phone 2 months ago I have been unable to stream media from my home media servers (PS3 media server/Plex). (yes other devices can stream from them)
Using the Android gallery they just show as empty. Using media house I can see everything but when I want to play something it just stays at the connecting screen.
Even if I kill the app my phone gets extremely hot and I experience extreme battery drain until I restart the phone.
Using my phones media server I am able to stream to other apps.
Questions:
1. I have done a lot of googling and only found one other person with this problem with no replies, has anyone experienced this before?
2. What sort of troubleshooting/logging can I enable/view on my device, or how can I diagnose this problem.
Thanks in advance and sorry if I left out any necessary info.
Regards,
I think this question suits better for the developer of said app. You can email the developer, email information is on the Gplay page.
I will try the app developer but I don't know how much they will need able to help as the problem is not limited to their app

Phone Restarts at the Most Random Times

Hey everyone! I was having phone troubles and was wondering if anyone could help solve them. I lurk more than I post on the forums, so forgive me if I make any mistakes.
My phone is an AT&T Galaxy Note 5 (of course) 32GB variant on stock 7.0. For what ever reason, my phone restarts with out reason and sometimes does it multiple times a day. It usually happens when I am on Wi-Fi, or the phone is looking for Wi-Fi. At first, I thought it was due to 3rd party apps trying to access data with low signal, but the problem still occurs after multiple factory resets. The phone doesn't restart as much when I turn Wi-Fi off, but the problem still occurs with Data.
The problem began around the time I updated my phone to Android 7.0 when AT&T released the update. I usually keep Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Location, and Sync enabled if that helps. I also clear the cache partition after each security update.
I also believe that it has something to do with the Wi-Fi because even listening to music sometimes with Wi-Fi enabled, causes the audio to freeze or stutter. I read on a post that this might be due to Wi-Fi scanning or Bluetooth Scanning for location purposes, but the phone still restarts with those options disabled. I am unsure of what else to do besides just living with the problem. I took it to AT&T to see if they could help, but just wanted to sell me a new phone.
If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for reading and for the help in advance!
This is most commonly a botched upgrade and the way to repair it is to flash the entire current firmware to the device again which will delete all your personal files, photos, contacts, text messages, music, app data and anything else you have stored on the phone. Most of the time you can download your firmware from a link provided through this site, be weary of any other source of downloads links besides xda-developers.com!! Your AT&T store can flash the entire firmware to your phone again for you while retaining your data, but if you are holding out on upgrading so you can gain root this will defeat your efforts. For 99% of the people you should just take your phone to an AT&T store.
There's a chance that the next upgrade will repair your phone by replacing the problematic file but you'd be lucky to have that serendipitous outcome.

I was about to take it to an AT&T store, but I turned off Data Saver mode and did the latest update, and everything has been fine since. It's really the weirdest thing but I'm glad nothing too much had to be done to fix it. Thanks for the help and reply though!
