Can someone please make one I can't even get connected, as soon as I see obtaining ip, it goes back to saved really fast
Is it doing it on all networks? Did you try to connect to Wi-FI in school/work/some public place?
If it does work elsewhere, problem is in your router/network setup.

i just upgraded to shaps latest wm6 rom. the wifi works at first; but when i came back from school, it wont connect anymore. it gives the error 'cannot connect to the networ and service provider settings and try again. i tried setting my router to an open network. but it still wont connect. i tried it on a different router. it gives the same error. did a hard reset twice. connects as soon as i finish hard reset. but after like i come back from school. it gives the same error. i even re-flashed the rom this morning and it was working. i just got in now and its still giving me the same error. can someone help me please??
Check that your mac address is still ok and you are getting an ip address. There is a thread on here for fixing dead WLAN if your mac address is blank.

yes. my desktop makes use of a wifi adapter to connect to it. and its working fine.
Be sure the Proxy's are disabled for connections using the phones WAN. here is a cab to allow you to turn it on & off easily.

not sure if this is gona help, but when i had wifi problems i found that going to settings, wireless lan, then the power mode tab and changing the power save mode from best battery to best performance fixed my wifi issues.
get your email address out of your login name
Try removing the network connection settings and let it redetect the network.
I've got an EVO running CM6 stable with android-wireless-tether (pre7). I am able to pair/connect to my home PC by setting up a bluetooth PAN in Windows 7. I right click on my device, choose "Connect > Access Point" and it says "Connection Successful". The only thing I get now is "Identifying..." until I am stuck with the good ol' 169.xx... IP address.
I checked the log for the wireless tether app, and it shows:
Enabling NAT rules... done
Enabling IP forwarding... done
Tethering now running... done
error: SIOCSIFFLAGS (Cannot assign requested address)
I've done a little research on the error and tried a few suggestions (rebuild binary/config files, changing the default LAN IP in awt settings) to no avail.
I also tried disabling WiFi and just attempting to share the 3G connection which still isn't working out (same error). Can anyone help me out with this one? I've also tried awt pre8 with the same results.
I had same setup and problem. Started the supper user app and quit app. Powered down phone restarted phone. After restart WiFi tether worked fine. Don't know why .

Just turn on wireless teather and the go to access conections fine androidap and connect to that. Why do you have to use blue tooth am I missing something? Wireless teather is in the settings with CM6 so you dont need an extra app for teather?
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried opening/closing SU app and rebooting, got the same result.
The reason why I am doing it this way is because I have a PC with only a network card (not WiFi). It's about 30/40 ft. from my router. Rather than buying a wireless card or some cable, I'm connecting via bluetooth and sharing my phones WiFi connection.
I understand if I had a WiFi adapter I could just use the built in Hotspot feature, but if I had WiFi, I would rather connect directly to the router.
I'm definitely interested in this too. At work, we have a no-wireless router policy, and I don't really feel like firing it up and have a guy holding a Fluke wireless network analyzer come and find me.
Bluetooth is alright for what I need. Seems to almost be a kernel issue or something. Worked *perfectly* with my N1, even with pre8. The EVO with CM6 stable isnt working. Just as a note, the wifi portion works correctly.
Actually let me rephrase : The bluetooth section does work, I believe there might be an issue related to the dnsmasq dhcp server not being able to serve IPs. The 'Upload' section of the information panel changes, the Green Download section stays 0.00. The client never receives an IP address, and thats about it.
Logcat didnt really show me much of anything critical error-wise, I'm really hoping that I can downgrade/upgrade a kernel in order to support whatever hardware changes there were between the N1 and the EVO.
I checked the wireless router wifi mode, and it no longer works either. 'Started with errors' is what I get now when in the wifi mode. The built-android wireless tether works fine, but I either wish I could hide the ESSID or have a bluetooth option available.
It *seems* related to the kernel, but logcat doesnt mention anything about not being able to load a module, and the wifi-tether app doesnt have a txt log, or does it?
Hi all,
I have done a search for this but cannot find someone with my exact problem so have given up and post my first thread. Still slightly a noob to this, however I cannot connect to my home WiFi. It gets stuck in a loop trying to receive a IP from the router, basically I can see the router but that is it.
My phone is running clockwork mod and a stable version of Cyanogen Mod 7.1. The router is a Belkin wireless N.
I have tried using a static IP on the phone, adding MAC address to router (90% sure both those details was input correctly) Adding the Wifi network manually to phone. I have tried connecting on to other WiFi's, have only managed to connected to half of the ones I have tried. It worked at the hotel I was staying at for work and my uncle's home network, but will not work at my uncle's work network or mine.
I don't think I have left anything out.
Any help will be appreciated and thanks in advance

Are any of the networks you're trying to connect to use any security?
Also, run alogcat; maybe that will show where the errors are.

Yea, my uncle's home, work and my router use WPA/WPA2, cant remember the hotels one but I would imagine it would be the same. Oh also tried my router without security and it's still the same.
OK, doing a logcat now, but what do I do then? just looks like tons of code. Does it just loop over and over again?
Are there any known issues between android and belkin routers? as I have just remembered that my cousins android tablet and his Samsung S2 phone wont connect either and they are are not modified in anyway(rooted or custom roms)
I just got my HTC 8S yesterday and everything works fine except WiFi. It connects to my wifi router but when I try to open any website it says "We're having trouble displaying this page"... I try to open 192.168.0.1 and it opens normally. I try to connect to a second wifi router and the same thing happens. Just to be sure, I tried on a third wifi router as well and still the same. I cannot open any website or have internet in general. (3G works fine by the way).
I suspect something with the DNS but you can't change that to manual in WP8 as far as I know. Also, I tried to open a few websites by putting directly the IP instead of domain name and it doesn't work.
Any clue fellas?
EDIT: It must be related to my network. I went out of town for a couple of days and never had any problem testing on multiple WiFi connections. Plase Mods, delete thread. Thank you.
My brand new Note 4 has always worked flawlessly with my home route via wifi (the past month). However, once I try going to a public wifi hotspot, such as my local ymca, my Note 4 just keeps saying "obtaining ip address" and eventually ends up saying "failed to obtain ip address" or "avoided poor internet connection". Also, after entering in a password on a wifi network at work, it will say saved, secured but drops the wifi as soon as i attempt to you use the internet...
I have been to a few hotels where I was able to connect to there free wifi after entering a password. I have researched this problem as being linked to android devices. There are some tips or workarounds that I've found that may or may not work for me but here they are:
1) Set frequency band to 2.4ghz only
2) Set to static ip
3) Turn airplane mode on, then back off
4) Do a factory reset on the phone
Before I attempt all of these options at my local Ymca, I would like some feedback from others. Has anyone came up with a sure fire fix for this issue on android devices? Any other tips or suggestions?
Thanks to all !
Alot of times public Wifi will have you "sign" an agreement. Open your web browser and refresh a page and alot of times it will have an agreement you have to click "I agree" and then put a continue button and it will go from there. Biolife, McDonalds, and Woods Coffee all have this. Its a bit weird if you have never done it before but it will make sense. Hope it helped.
