Low microphone volume with 3rd Party app (noise cancellation?) - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I'm running a P2 on 6/MM and don't have the OTA to 7/N, although I realise I could flash it.
Love the phone, but low microphone volume is a pain. For me this is most notably on WhatsApp, but Hangouts suffers too.
Is there a way to fix the microphone level or disable noise cancellation, which I understand from my reading is the cause of the problem?
Thanks XDA!

[Q] In call microphone volume low

The microphone volume is very low on my dhd, people can barely hear me when I call them. The sound is also low when I use a voice recording app. When I plug in an external mic the sound is fine though.
I've been looking for a solution for this for a while, does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm running MIUI 1.5.20, but I had issues when I was using the stock ROM.
Yes i have this problem, often people complain they can't hear me any good.
However if i turn the phone with backside towards me they can hear fine so i guess it's a design fault that they place the microphone at the back, why?
Did anything ever come of this? It's just that I am experiencing the exact same issue

[Q] Camera mic problem

Hello! I'm having a problem with my camera mic. Whenever I record a video, the microphone level is too high and there is a lot of noise. This problem started occurring when I installed Cyanogenmod. (I always update it with nightly versions) The mic works fine when I use it for my calls, the voice on the other end is clear. I tried looking for a way to adjust the mic level but I don't believe its possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Video calls at max volume, other party cannot hear me

Just wondering if anyone has tried Skype, Google Hangouts or the like where you have the call volume set to max?
I can hear the other party just fine, but they tell me that from my end the sound is very muffled. I finally figured out that I can solve this by turning the volume down 2 or 3 notches, but then I can only make the call in a quiet room or else I can't hear them properly!
I reckon what must be happening is that the phone is trying to compensate for the speaker and mic being so close together (stopping feedback) that at loud volume it just aggressively cancels too much out which then includes my own voice.
So now I think I also know why normal speakerphone/handsfree phone calls are so soft in volume - Sony have deliberately knobbled it as a workaround rather than fixing the core issue. But other apps are allowed to use a higher speaker volume and so run into this issue if using the microphone as well.

Low Mic volume / muffled sound

Hello z1c owners.
Have you guys experienced low mic volume problem during call? The other end of call keep complain about my voice not clear. After turn off noises suppression, things got better, but still sounds like the mic is coverd with something, not crystal clear. I used skvalex call recorder recorded calls from my z1c and a moto x for comparison. Moto X is loud and clear, but z1c is lower and muffled.
Is that normal or I bought defected phone? Is there any solutions for this problem.

Have exactly the same problem only when I use the speakerphone for calls. I am very interested in possible solutions.
I have another observation to report. I use smart voice recorder from the playstore to record conversations. There is a setting inside this app which lets you choose between microphone's auto gain control and manual gain control (calibrate). Auto gain gives me awful very low volume audio. On the other hand when I calibrate the mic the volume is in the perfect level.

I had the same problem on mine, the volume was so low that the other people could't hear what I said at all. Then the little grid covering the mic and the speaker detached and now the problem is gone (waterproofing is gone too I guess), the holes on the grid are tiny and they got obstructed by dirt.

WhatsApp Voicenotes - Microphone very quiet

Hi,
got my OP3 yesterday and already upgraded to OxygenOS 3.2.4. Works great, only issue I have is the very low microphone volume when recording WhatsApp Voicenotes, I have to turn up the volume of the speakers to the max to even understand it at all, which is a bit weird. Even when I directly talk into the microphone at the bottom of the phone besides the headphone jack, it is still very quiet.
Is there a fix for this? Anyone else experienced this? I only found a fix for the video recording microphone quality, but I don't think that that will affect WhatsApp Voicenotes, right?

+1. The OnePlus 3 has very low volume WhatsApp voice note recordings, and when you use headphones to record it's louder but there's a constant jack noise that's kinda annoying
