SD card issue... - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure if it's rom related or not... But when I make a backup in TWRP and try to restore anything It just sits on the lg boot screen. Perhaps a suggestion on what file system people are using with their external SD cards? Ext2, 3,4...etc..

I've had the same issue so never make backups to the external SD card. I noticed that the backup file size isn't even the same compared to backups to internal storage.
Backup to internal and then move to external. I haven't had issues restoring from external storage but it will probably be much slower.

SD card problem after partition with gParted...is READ ONLY?!?

Have big problem after gParted partition...first partition is fat32 and another one is ext3...
But my sd is now Read only?!?
What happened? I don't have any of my folders...backups, roms...but I put it there after partitioning...
There are just some signs and cant get in any of my folder named with this signs...same thing when i have to see it in win7...
Can't do anything with SD now....can't see it in gParted and can't see it in win7
Can I save my data? Everything is on this card....everything. I put files in folder on my desktop, and put them back when finished partitioning and everything was fine first 10 seconds...but files was CUT/paste
PLEASE HELP!
Card is Samsung 4GB class 2
Sent from my Desire23
Can i buy this one for my device: TRANSCEND 8GB 8G Micro SDHC Card + SD Adapter Class 6 (eBay 19,89$)
...'cause is SDHC or any other sd what somebody can advice to me?
Put the sd in a card reader or connect it while the phone is in recovery and don't forget to mount the ext partition, then redo the partitions. This will wipe everything so if you want your data back you have to find it some other way.

Thanks for the answer but....

Any advice how to get my data back?
In recovery there is a option called mounts and storage (or something similar) make sure you mount the fat and ext partition. If you don't see your data then you can try some sort of data recovery program.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Ok...I'll try something.
Thank you
Fix it with card reader but my data wasn't there
Said 3,15GB total (rest is ext3)
2,41GB free and 758MB used space...that means that my data is on sd card but I can't see it?!? Because I see just 4 folders which are empty (0 bytes)...what's with the other 758MB? Where they are?
I recoverd almost everything with PowerDataRecovery tool, but don't want to put it back to SD 'cause of this 758MB of used space...
Anyone have some idea what can I do? Before make another format...
ES file explorer doesn't work and SuperBox File Manager doesn't work...can't believe it!
Do I need to format SD card and loose my (hidden) data?

Answer is:
Found 1 file 758MB large and can't open it...device freeze every time I touch file...Delete this file and everything's work fine and put recover data back to SD, run GingerVillain 1.4 and work like a charm here
I fixed problem with unmounted sd with card reader/right click on sd/properties/fix...

[Q] CWM and storage card

ok I installed ics
install the sdcard swap
unlocked the boot loader
installed swm
then I ran a backup.
it put the backup on the internal storage (which my tablet thinks is /mnt/extrenal_sd
is that right. i think at recovery cwm thinks that is /sdcard
so how do I get cwm to backup and restore to my 32mb external card

I'm assuming you mean 32gb . It's a bug at the moment so you'll just have to wait for a newer release.

its also an ics thing...ics doesnt mount externals the same way gb or hc used to. this is a bug with all devices with external sd's. there are fixes but work is being done elsewhere atm...it will be fixed eventually but for now its a "minor" bug.
remember...most all of the ics devices being released dont have external sd.

doh. yes I meant 32gb.
so I guess I will just use the internal storage for clockwork mod backups until this gets fixed
but it doesn't seem right
is it possible to mount the sd card so I can move backup directories from the actual card to the internal card. with cwm

[Q] CM 10.2 External SD card issue

I just installed the CM10.2 and am finding it difficult to work with the external sd card.
The sd card shows up on storage and I can mount and unmount it without issues.
The card will not be available unless an app is rooted.
I cannot use it with CoolReader which I used to do when I had the stock ROM.
CoolReader will only show the internal card.
File Manager will also show the internal one only unless root is enabled for it.
I did format the card through recovery as well.
Is it not possible to use the sd card without root privileges?
I had thought by installing a custom ROM I would gain more capability but I seem to have lost here.
Sounds like either an issue reading the card or a broken symlink. What kind of card is it? Try formatting it as fat32 on a computer.

It's a generic 16gb card class4.
I formatted it from recovery which I understand does fat32.
As soon as I revert back to stock i am able to use with all apps without a problem.
Try another Rom, one built from CM and see if it works. And be aware android devices tend to be really finicky when it comes to sd cards. Sometimes you have to format on the device, but sometimes it works better if you do so on a pc. I still say it's worth a try. Then if you still have the same problem, you might consider searching and asking in the Rom thread.

In that case, your option is to format on a PC.

Internal mounted SD-Card dissapeared, after flashing Lineage 14.1

Hi XDA,
I'm struggeling with my SD-Card after moving to lineage 14.1 (Coming from CM 13).
Installation worked just fine, but now i can not access my SD-Card from the phone and even not from PC (over the phone). I mounted it as an internal drive on CM to extend my storage.
The System recognizes the Card, but only gives me the options to format the Card and use it as internal storage or format and use it as an external storage.
Could it be, that the Card cannot be used, because it was formated as an internal storage under CM 13?
If anybody has an Idea, how i get access to the files please tell me

In the past while i was having a Moto G3,i got it to Marshmallow, made the SD card Internal like and about a month i got it stolen. But the good point was that i had removed the SD card.
Checked Google nothing useful.
Asked Motorola for any decryption tips,Nothing useful from Motorola.
And i couldn't stay with a encrypted SD card.. I formatted it(after making the "big choice" and it was back to factory stats..)
But the only thing that i didn't do,is that i didn't ask Google for support. Because Motorola makes pure stock Android but with some of Motorola apps and features.
As you was in AOSP based ROM (even if you was to LG's stock,Google could help) go ask Google gently for any solution(if you had important files, then surely they will help)
haha i had the same problem but the solution is very very easy just reboot into your recovery open recovery file manager and delete Android secure folder in your SD card.
thats all you need

Deleting "Android Secure" folder (there is no such a folder even in hidden files) won't do anything.
Also a thing that you should learn.(Because it seems you don't)
When your SD card is formated as internal you can't access it via TWRP a PC or even an other phone.
Because it gets encrypted.
Have a nice day.

It cant be undone. Sorry to say. I learned this the hard way also. When you put it in lineage, you remember it asking about how you wanted to format it (movable or integrated)
You chose integrated mode. That encrypted it and counted it as device storage. No unencrypting it. Also if you blew away that lineage install, its totally not able to be read anymore. It stored the only decrypt key in the lineageOS keystore.
sad times.

Ah yes u right but you can access it as internal. Recvery will ecognise it anyways and you can delete this folder...
Btw this worked for me i had the same problem. And NO there is the folder named "Android secure" definition-- Android.secure is the folder where stock froyo android moves apps to the sd card by default. If you don't use the apps presently, you can safely remove the corresponding app files from the android.secure folder.

internal storage issue

Hi there
After rooted my sony xperia xa1ultra I'm having problems with the internal storage
When I make a backup with titanium for copying it later to the external sd and remove it from internal storage
My phone can't resize it well and keep on considering that space as occupied after I have let it free removing the backup
What can it be?
What can I do?
Thank you
Can't you just make titanium put the backup on the SD and skip the internal storage?

Thank you
Well I'm elimating one issue. You have to trouble shoot
