Unlock Rogers HTC One M8 and go back to stock ROM - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
I have a Canadian Rogers locked HTC One M8 phone and I recently upgraded it to Lineage OS 7.1 and it has become dog slow. I am regretting why I unlocked the phone in the first place. I can confirm that the phone has S-ON right now and is rooted. I have tried all the older threads that talk about how to unlock a specific Rogers HTC One M8 but there are way too many problems:
1. Firewater no longer available and Sunshine does not work for me.
2. Older links to download Rogers specific archives/files/packages/ROM do not work
I am desperate and your assistance in getting back to Stock ROM and get wireless updates is greatly appreciated.

What kind of "unlock" are you trying to do? SIM unlock? Since you talk about already unlocking it (assume you mean unlock the bootloader) but then say you are trying to unlock it.
Sunshine s-off requires a stock (or close to stock) Sense ROM. Did you make a backup of the stock ROM before flashing Lineage (which you should always do, before flashing a custom ROM).
Also, sunshine requires root.

Thank you very much for your reply. yes I am trying to do a SIM unlock. I did not make a backup of the Stock ROM. When I got the phone almost 3 years ago, I went from the stock ROM to a Cyanagenmod and then I've been upgrading the phone with aftermarket ROMs and currently on the lineage ROM which is too slow for my device. I can't use the phone with other carries other than Rogers which sucks.
I honestly don't care about the the stock ROM. All I need to be able to do is:
1. Get my phone to a stage where I can SIM unlock my phone
2. I can go back to an older version of Android (probably Android 6.1 or something).
Your guidance is appreciated.

1. Whether you decide to do s-off with sunshine, or alternately buy a SIM unlock code; both those options will usually require going back to a stock (or close to stock) Sense ROM. So it's not really a question of whether you "want" to be stock or not.
Options may include flashing a stock-ish Sense custom ROMs (I think a few work, like Maximus or maybe LeeDroid), or you can also return to the Rogers stock using the stock TWRP backup collection, which has instructions and files on how to do so: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
2. After you unlock the SIM successfully, you are free to flash whatever ROM you like, whether it be Sense or not, stock or not, Android 6, etc.

BL unlocking, warranty, custom ROMs and etc.

Hi guys My brother got a One V recently and so far the biggest complaint about it is the battery life. Looking around dem interwebz I've found he's not the only one, so my questions are:
1) I know it is possible to unlock and relock the bootloader, but will I get the warranty back after relocking?
2) Since battery life is the biggest problem, can I expect any improvements on that matter on any of custom ROMs available?
3) Do we have any ROMs with everything working (Bluetooth, GSM, WiFi etc.)?
4) The phone was purchased in Poland, so the phone is GSM / PrimoU, right?
5) Is every ROM multi-language?
6) How can I backup the stock ROM without rooting the phone first?
1) I know it is possible to unlock and relock the bootloader, but will I get the warranty back after relocking? NO (unless your bricked)
2) Since battery life is the biggest problem, can I expect any improvements on that matter on any of custom ROMs available? Yes
3) Do we have any ROMs with everything working (Bluetooth, GSM, WiFi etc.)? Yes
4) The phone was purchased in Poland, so the phone is GSM / PrimoU, right? correct
5) Is every ROM multi-language? i know the Cyanogen Mod one's are but i cant say for the others
6) How can I backup the stock ROM without rooting the phone first? Use a custom recovery after you unlock and do a "nandroid backup"

First, thanks a lot for answering my questions, but this one isn't all that clear for me, so: If I unlock and relock the BL, I don't have warranty, but if I "accidentally" brick the phone by doing so (BL unlocking or whatever), I still have the warranty? That doesn't really make sense to me :S
Btw: One V has 4GB of built-in memory, but on the stock ROM/kernel only 100 MB is available, does any of custom ROMs/kernels unlock the remaining space?

1st: actually, when you relock the bootloader, it appears as"relocked" instead of "locked". Thus the HTC guys can you tell that you had unlocked the bootloader. But when you are bricked, they can't even get into the bootloader, so they can't tell what you did to the BL.
2nd: that 100 mob is the RAM, not memory space.

Am I Unlocked?

I've got CM 11 ROM installed. By virtue of the custom ROM is my phone unlocked or do I need to unlock it? If I still need to do something to unlock it, what is the easiest/cheapest route?
Thanks in advance!
Duh. No I'm not unlocked (Google Search) and I found this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962453
Just posting this for other newbies to unlocking.

Rooting + custom roms doesn't mean your phone is unlocked
and I do not know if you're actually unlocked unless you tell me, the obvious way is to try other network sim. ie. Tmobile
or *#7465625# if you're on Stock.
also there're 2 ways to unlock: Free or Paid
Free: IF and ONLY IF your bootloader is not 4.3 Bootloader, ie. MK5 or MJB
Paid: buy an unlock code and unlock (prices are varies)
If you have the 4.3 bootloader and you buy an unlock code, you should revert to a stock ROM, enter the code, and re-load your custom ROM.

[Q] GSM Unlocked - Need Help with something silly...?

Hey All!
I finally got T-Mobile to do a full carrier unlock on my device. It is not paid off, it is just 2 days out of the box. There is a long story that goes with it, which I'd be happy to provide. I do want some help though before I go through it, if you would please assist.
Before they unlocked the device; I had installed TWRP, custom kernel, and AllianceROM. Fortunately, I backed up my original stock ROM with Ktoonz kernel before flashing Alliance. The T-Mobile Unlock app does not work on AllianceROM for probably obvious reasons. ANYWHO...I flashed back to my backup, ran the unlock with them over the phone and done.
Am I safe to flash back to AllianceROM backup I made? My understanding is once unlocked, forever unlocked. I would hate to flash into my previous backup to only lose my carrier perma unlock.
Thanks for the help!!!!
Once its unlocked, it's unlocked. It makes no difference what Rom you install afterwards.

Pretty much the exact same thing with me 2 days out of the box and not paid off or even used on the network. I did wait to flash recovery and what not till it was unlocked once it is perm unlocked though you are good to go I have flashed numerous roms and flashed via odin, and even had to use smart switch recovery by serial and still unlocked.

Thanks!
I went ahead and did a full back up of my unlock. Went ahead and flashed the ROM fresh over, not the backup, and reflashed the kernel. Still unlocked and good to go. Did it all through TWRP and no problems. Glad it didn't remove the unlock because I can't imagine continuing the battle! At least it is working perfectly with AT&T and has a full carrier perma unlock, rootable and bootloader unlock

Then you were not fully unlocked. You need to flash back to stock and call T-Mobile. Unlock app does come back after restore but it does not relock the device. It may say failed if you try to use it again as it is no longer in there system but unlock will stay.

[Q]Android 4.1 ROM, SIM Unlock?

Hello. I recently got my hands on a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy SIII. The phone is network locked and I need to unlock it. I already rooted the phone.
However I have not been successful in unlocking the SIM. There is a method posted here on XDA which tells you to use the menu by dialing *#197328640#. However it won't work on the versions after Android 4.1
I was wondering if anyone can share with me where I can download the stock or a custom ROM with Android 4.1 so that I can use this method to unlock the SIM.
If you know of any other methods that don't require me to pay third parties please share them with me.
Thank you.
If the phone is running a stock 4.3 or newer bootloader, you cannot use the free method to unlock the phone.

That's right. I was wondering if anyone could share with me a 4.1 bootloader because I wasn't successful in finding one.
You can't flash a 4.1 bootloader over a 4.3 or 4.4.2 bootloader. Trying will probably brick the phone.

CustomROM possible without root and (re)locked bootloader?

Hi,
Long story short:
is it possible to install customROM without root and to (re)lock the bootloader, and are there experiences with a similar situation where Apps check for closed bootloader and root (and stop working if detected)?
=> Goal: activate WiFi-Calling as my provider tuned down 2G-transmitpower due to the 5G-advances (without having enough 3G-coverage to make calls on UMTS-net)... BUT: I'm using two banks; one uses a PhotoTAN-App, that stops working if it detects an open Bootloader, the other Bank-App checks for Root & open Bootloader, and likewise stops working if detected. I have no idea about the PhotoTAN and Magisk, but the 2nd bank confirmed they checked rooted devices with Magisk, and that it does not work with it....
Thus, if I go for a CustomROM, I need to be sure that I can run it unrooted and with a locked bootloader....
Is there a way to install a CustomROM on the 5X with (re)locked bootloader and without root?
(or, if not possible: is there a way I can activate WiFi-Calling on StockROM if said one does not have the Carrier-Entitlements?)
Thanks for the help
@theunlucky: you don't need root to flash a custom ROM, only an unlocked bootloader. IMO you can lock it after flashing ROM.

Are you sure about locking the bootloader after flashing a CustomROM? I've read several threads now, and it seems a locked BL only works with StockROM?
Not sure, therefore IMO IMO a locked BL prevents flashing CustomROM, not running. Try. If it doesn't work, you unlock BL again (triggers factory reset). In the worst case you've to flash latest firmware for a clean base..
