Hi guys, I just got my Unlocked Sprint G5 LGAS992 (7.0) model. it's doin finealthough 1 dealbreaker for me isn't working.
I cant see or find any USB tethering option in network settings and Hotspot doesn't seem to work. Is there any way to fix this problem?

Have you tried this and did it work?
I've dl'd hiddemncallmenu.apk and installed and navigated to IOT Hidden Menu --> LTE Setting --> APN Setting. My APN Type is "default, mms, dun". Should I replace that string with what you have above? Thanks in advance.

Okay so I'm not sure if I'm posting properly to ask a question I know I quick to reply because I couldn't find out how to post LOL. Anyway I apologize for messing up the flow if that's what I've done. I'm a bit confused because my Sprint LG G5 has WiFi hotspot and I see the options for both bluetooth tethering and USB tethering. I have a young son and stay-at-home wife and we live in BFE with no internet access. So I have unlimited LTE on my G5 however Sprint limits the amount of shared or Hotspot usage. And the limit seems to be reached fairly quickly. I don't need a ton but I love for my family to be able to watch a little bit of Netflix in the evening and for my wife and son to at least be able to browse the internet maybe watch some YouTube on the old Galaxy S6 that they have at least when I'm home and my phone is with me. It's pretty tough to all watch a Netflix movie on a phone screen. So is there any ways around this hotspot limit? Also how exactly do I USB tether I know that must sound silly. I understand that I can have type-c coming out of my phone and then on the other end it would be a regular USB type A or whatever it is so how do I then connect that to something such as say the Galaxy or is that something that would only be used in the case of tethering to a computer which has normal USB? Thanks a ton for any and all advice and help it is greatly greatly appreciated this site is awesome and I'm sure once I get the hang of navigating it a bit better I will love it even more. Thanks in advance--j

USB tethering is for a PC only. Going into your APN settings with the hiddencallmenu.apk (located in the G5 unlocking thread in the General section) and adding "dun" to the APN type with a comma after the last entry in that field (before you add dun) should help you to bypass Sprint's limit on hotspot. Also reboot after doing all of that.

Just wondering if there are any MODs that remove the tethering limit that T-Mobile gives ?
on my Nexus 5, i was able to tether over 25-30GB a month without a problem.
now im back to my 5GB limit ..
Thanks .
Im not bashing you I say to each his own but this is why they made tethering caps to begin with.

Some rules are just made to be broken, if I stream Netflix all month long , what's the difference if I buy a mini HDMI cable and connect to my TV ,.. than to simply tether. ?

No it will not work tether. They changed. It on lg g3
Most of the MODs don't work on the G3, so far, at least none that I have seen/tried so far. It has to do with the way the G3 uses the APN and IPv6 (IPv4 works, but LTE is spotty and it also breaks tether, from what I've read), ThePagel can explain is far better than I, if he so wishes.
The best way to get it to is via the app "Wifi Tehther App", which works perfectly and masks your tether use as mobile data use and not as hotspot use.

You have to uncheck use google dns on the pc side in PDA Net. Just right click on the pdanet icon in the right hand side taskbar of windows then go to settings and uncheck 'use google dns'. Glad to help: happy Androiding!!!! and BTW you do not have to be rooted! Cheers
And using those apps OR the build.prop edit is still able to be seen as tethering data from carriers do to the packet types I am guessing? I've only 5GB of Tethering and was just curious about this out of general knowledge
Just a quick how to on unlocking the Hotspot on any version of tw including our new s7 and s7 edge. Root is Not needed
First you must get your msl
There are numerous ways to get it the best way is call sprint tech support and tell them "band 41 is disabled and you need to enable it. Your friends s5 gets it and he has sprint spark. Mines disabled" "i can tell because the app lte discovery shows it disabled" they will send you to advanced tech support who will give you the msl and walk you through enabling band 41. {just go along with him and say goodbye you got the msl now} or however you can get it
Next type in ##data# (on the phone dialer pad)
Click edit
Type in yoUr MSL
Go to apn settings
Select the first apn EHRPD and go to type
Change it from (default, mms) to (default, mms, dun) no spaces
Click the menu up top right and hit save
{hitting save is mandatory}
Next got to the lte apn
Go to type
And make the same changes also remember HIT SAVE
Now reboot and turn on your Hotspot
Tadaaaa a.
Note Hotspot will not work on airrave. without adding this:
to get it to work on airrave got to the same APN area as above with MSL
click add apn and name it APN2 EVDO_A
next go to APN below name and type n.ispsn
next go down to type and enter default ,mms, dun
next go down to protocol and check ipv6 and ipv4 both do this on the roaming protocol below it also
next go down to bearer and uncheck unspecified and check EVDO_A
last again in the top right corner hit menu save (saving is mandatory) At least this method. But it works flawlessly otherwise. Hopes this helps
Works on All tw roms
Enjoy
if you update your prl or profile youll have to add dun back to the apns it only takes a minute though
profile and prl updates reset the dun setting
enjoy my fellow s7 edge owners
UPDATE: this mod will not work if you've updated past APB5, to the newer APC5
that update blocked the apn settings even with the msl
TO use Hotspot on later firmware as soon as you boot up go straight to hotspot and start it. it will turn off turn it right back on and it will work but you have to reboot everytime you turn it off.
I recommend in setting up at the top you'll see edit (thats for the quick ones listed there)
add Hotspot to it. so when you start up its quicker to get too. this does work because android starts before sprints cockblocker can start up and check. enjoy either way
K i also figured out how to allow hotspot on airavre and most likely any connection. Gonna test roaming next gotta go to a roaming area first. Remember this is a no root method but will probably work on any rom sprint
I got it working on any connection even roaming. Ill post instructions soon.

i got it all done just have to post instructions . works perfect on everything except roaming 1xrtt
ill try and do it today. very simple but there one hoop you have to jump through. not a big one though
no root need too
I have not done any extensive testing but have found that the no root method for other samsung devices works fine for me.
On phone dialer: ##DATA#
Enter MSL Code ( many say to get it during a chat session with sprint and say you need it to fix GPS, I just say I need it for development)
APN Settings -> APN2 EHRPD Internet-> APN Type
Change default,mms->default,mms,dun
Press menu in the upper-right and save
Do the same for APN2 LTE internet
Save
Reboot
Hotspot working. (Sprint)
Thank you for posting instructions; however, I have applied these changes without luck. (checked, double-checked.. then did it a third time to make sure of the settings).
Could it be that you're already provisioned for hotspot? I know there are a few newer Sprint plans that allow for a limited hotspot.
You are using the native hotspot application within the device, correct? Just making sure I'm not missing anything.
Thanks!

yeah, if you have the tmobile ONE plan.. just turn on hotspot, set up a password and have another device connect..
no root needed.. no special edits or anything, it just works now..

I'm talking about unlimited on the ONE plus plan, you get 10GB's before throttled to 3G speed. I'm throttled now and I want to bypass it.
Worked for me.
But I am dealing with some throttling issues? Like If I speed test getting like 80^ 25v. But go to stream a movie. Slowww... and then went to torrent on laptop getting like 60kbs download. I saw something about changing the APN might help the torrenting but doesn't allow apn changes on Pixel 2 XL.
and on a small note I do have ONE Plus plan. and about 300 mb in so far.

Right now using the default T-Mobile APN (no dun) on Android 7.0 and getting LTE speeds. Personally I use NordVPN and I love it.
I would test on Oreo but LOS on the Exynos S7 has som RIL issues at the moment it seems.

So I was using the Tether mod zip and notice as of the past few weeks ive only been getting half a megabit...
This suggestion did work well, but is there any other way to do this without the extra apps? Something built n2 a rom?

I only know of VPN Tether app, which requires root, and PDANet+ also works. I don't think there's a ROM with a feature to bypass Tethering throttling, sorry man.

I didn't find an official one but anyway here is the playstore link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pdanet&hl=en_US
I think the free version limits you to 5GB every time you connect, or something like that. I bought the paid key which is like $8, but no limits, so that's pretty cool, but kinda expensive lol.
I tried it this morning omw to work, and I didn't see much of a difference in speed. May have been the area I was in.
In still on the Galaxy S6 Edge and was considering getting a new phone to get around this... But based on what I'm reading, the limitation is the same with all phones? I may as well just throw an Oreo rom GS6e since it's still solid.. right?
Did you try the other workaround with the VPN tether app? That worked pretty well for me.

Not sure how it works for T-Mobile, but I know that Three in the UK detect tethering using the TTL. The way I understand it is the mobile operator looks at the TTL of packets going through the network. Windows default TTL is 128 hops, android is 64. Therefore any packets with a TTL of more than 64 hops is from a tethered device. However, it's possible to change this in windows, just set the TTL to 65, so that after the hop to your phone it's down to 64 and looks like a regular packet coming from your phone.
YMMV and it depends how your mobile operator, but whenever I tether my laptop it doesn't use any of my tethered data allowance.
To change TTL on windows, you just need to create a registry key <Insert usual 'messing with your registry is a bad idea if you don't know what you're doing' text>. Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
Create a new DWORD (32-bit) called 'DefaultTTL' and set its value to 65, then restart for good luck. If you want to undo this, you can either just change the value to 128 or delete the key.
Hello Everyone,
So we finally said bye-bye to sprint and are trying to use our Sprint LS991 G4s on sprint.
We are on android 6.0, software ZVB, and are unlocked.
We can make calls, use sms, interenet, but MMS will not work.
I have been using HiddenMenuCall apk and trying every configuration/ guide/ apn settings I can find but still no luck. I did find where someone say they set there phone to "global" and they got mms to work, but that post was years old with no explanation.
If any of you know the magic settings needed to get this to work I would greatly appreciate it!
Additionally, it seems that something I did changed my cell status from LTE to E ( I never saw that before in the years I have had the phones)
Also, in my newly created T-Mobile APN, the phone keeps trying to rewrite the MMSC and MMS Proxy to sprint ones.

People that I tagged - sorry if this bothers you. Please take it as a compliment. From years of reading it seems you are the best of the best with this phone and any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you ALL!

I can't remember Mate it's been forever since I've had a g4. I would attribute both issues to the apn not being set. So that would imo be the next step or thing to look into is why the apn is not sticking.

Wow! Thanks for the quick response!
I know its an old phone - but, they are still working....
I am not sure why the new APNs are not sticking either. I am trying to tackle that. Every other thing I type in the APN sticks except MMSC and MMSProxy... and surprise, surprise, the mms is what is giving me issues!
Either way - thank you for everything MadScientist. Over the years your posts have helped me and other ( I am sure) tons!
Happy New Years Mate!

So after fooling with certain options I can send and receive MMS only if BOTH wifi is on and I have a LTE connection. Strange, huh?
If wifi is off, it does not work
If wifi is on and no LTE, it does not work
No wifi, does not work
Any ideas anyone???

A lot of carriers have opted to be able to send MMS over wifi so that's that. You might try a 3rd party app. In the past when I couldn't get apn proper I would use textra. might even try the newest android messenger. A lot of them have turned on this rcs messaging so that may work.
Normal as long ads the apn is setup day like mine is name. Internet. Apn NDO. as long as those are set LTE sometimes will work. I remember there being a hidden menu and we could set the apn in that one. But not the normal settings apn menu. I don't remember the dialer. Some one had a app lg hidden menu or something. It's in the sprint lgg4 sim unlock thread. Or should be. That's how I did it on mine

That explains the wifi working- weird that I can't get it t work over cell.
Since it works over wifi, I know the phone is capable....grrrrrr! I am sure it is some setting somewhere!
Thank you for the link to the hidden menu apk . I actually found it linked in another post of yours from years ago, lol:highfive:

So I am wondering if I apply MellowMallow ZVB Rom if any settings will be changed that will make things work. Maybe the International version (although I do not know if that will mess things up). I am also wondering if that will get visual voicemail working without using tmobile's app.
