I have a htc m8 eye . Recently installed twrp and rooted. I tried to delete some apps but after boot they come again. So googled for it and found that we should disable write protection.
Can anyone help me????
Device : htc m8 eye
True, the M8 (and presumably M8 eye) has system write protection, even with unlocked bootloader and root. For the M8, there is a kernel mod that disables system write protection. But the M8 and M8 eye use different kernels, and therefore not compatible. Not sure if the M8 eye has it's own similar kernel mod.
I think some folks may have had luck using a root browser app to enable write permissions to the system folder, then simply delete the bloat apps from the system folder. It's worth a try, anyway.

Thanks for reply.
I tried using many root browsers to delete those bloat apps but they come back again after reboot.

Are you changing the permissions in the folder from "read" to "read/write" using the root browser apps? This is usually a separate action in the root browser apps.

To delete system apps, boot to recovery (twrp), mount system in mount menu. Then go advance menu, file manager. Browse to system/app or system/priv-app delete any app that you want to delete (I advise you to rename the .apk to .bak, so you can have it back when needed)
Whatever you're going to do, make a complete nandroid back in backup menu first before you start modding.

Yes. Unfortunately I don't see any custom ROM for M8 Eye on XDA so your own rooted ROM is stock modified the best that you can have.

You need root (su binary) and superuser app and a properly installed busybox (for mounting read-write and other tools with titanium backup). Titanium should ship with busybox tho. S-OFF just lets you flash unsigned code from HBOOT. Rezound just now got s-off but they could install custom roms and remove bloat.
it's running some weird/old superuser
try to update superuser from market - package file was not signed correctly
try to run update helper - force close
try to delete (any) apk from /system/app with root explorer get error
great. tried flashing superuser through recovery and now im stuck in bootloop. probably should have backed up with titanium when i had the chance

is S-OFF needed to flash hboot and radio? or can that be done via recovery?
edit: ugh i got CM9 kang loaded and working great...only problem is i *still* cant remove system apps (movie studio, dev tools, etc) wtf
maybe try renaming the bloat .bak with root browser.

Recovery backups save to your sdcard in a clockworkmod folder.
S-off is needed and the only way to flash hboots, radios, and splash screens. You also need s-off to flash recoveries thru hboot, but can also be done with unrevoked or rom manager.
Also you must be s-off to remove system apps, or anything from the /system folder or subdirectories, having root alone is not enough.

I don't 100% buy that s-off is needed to disable/remove system apps. My understanding is that S-OFF is just at the bootloader level and would not affect system. Unless it has a deeper effect than that. Read/write access should be all that's needed and you need root for that for sure.
Just my 2cents. I could be wrong. Since it seems to be the case for you guys I may be wrong here.

I finally was able to get rid of oem swype, then reinstall swype beta through the installer. I was not able to "force remove app (by recover/exploit)", i don't know what I was doing wrong. Maybe I just don't know how to use Titanium Backup well enough.
I used Titanium Backup, went to "backup/restore", scrolled down to Swype, long hold, clicked on "convert to user app", then I was able to remove it through the "Application Manager".
I haven"t tried this with other System App but it should work. I hope this helps. Good luck.
I agree with tiny, S-off shouldn't be required to delete system apps. I understand that you switched to s-off and you saw then light but is there any chance you may have changed something else while you were changing to s-off? reflashing the su-binary? switching ROMs? updating your ROM? Many of these things can also have an effect on your superuser position in life. Most ROMs are pre-rooted which means that the su-binary is already implemented into the ROM. If you updated or switched your ROM while you were in the process of switching to s-off, it is likely that you also updated the binary and gave yourself lovely superuser permissions once again. Also note that when you update using OTA and you are using stock rooted with S-ON that your phone will lose it's superuser binary in the process of updating and you wont notice the change until the next time you try to do something that involves SU. Just a few thoughts. Glad you got it fixed
You might also poke around the TB settings. I believe there's one near the bottom that removes the market link, although it should be enabled by default.
hello everyone
so i just got my new HTC desire 816 dual sim ( after an old desire 816 which has factory issues ) . with the old device i installed CM11 the unofficial 4.4.4 and installed mount2sd and everything was good
now i got the new device and i'm a bit scared of installing a new rom , so i'm thinking of rooting , adding the injection support then installing mount2sd but i'm not sure about the compatibility of all this mix with the stock
so here what i'm going to do and i need your opinions
1- root the device => guide followed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2775801
i don't know what the wp_mod.ko module do so any tips would be great
2- installing Injector to enable injecting the init.d support http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256647
my device is not on the list so i'm a little bit scared :/
3- installing mount2sd https://github.com/SpazeDog/mounts2sd which i used before with CM11 and was fine
OR
A friend suggested that i install the new CM11 official and then install the mount2sd and done ??
ps* i'm using a lot of apps and i like installing everything so basically i need A LOT of storage for apps and their data and obviously the stock only gives 3GB which is nothing
ps* i kinda like the stock so anything other solutions with the stock would be perfect

The wp_mod.ko file is so that you can enable writing to the SD in the system on stock.
This is basically what allows mount2SD and link2SD to work and init.d support might be needed for both as well so pair that file with your injector and your good to go.
I personally am able to download and put any files I want to the SD thanks to the wp_mod.ko alone. Having init support will allow it to just run scripts on startup and in combination with the wp file it will allow scripts involving the SD card.

Only the apps and data that would normally move to an external card. What I can't move are the apps that Titanium Backup would force to external card. The easiest option would be to partition the external card with an ext partition and then use an app like Link2SD to mount it. To do that though, without S-OFF, requires that the OP work.
Even though I'm rooted, I don't have anywhere near enough knowledge to be able to safely*recover if anything goes wrong. ?

You can't! There is no way to S-OFF our device. You are stuck with S-ON. That's it. Unlocking the bootloader, flashing a recovery, and a custom ROM. Those all have nothing to do with S-OFF. Our phone simply doesn't have S-OFF.

Your screenshot shows you trying to install the Xposed Framework, not Mount2SD. Also, the screenshot shows (and the original topic clearly states) that if you're S-ON, you can't install Xposed Framework whilst booted. It is offering you to install through Recovery. If you click OK, the app will automatically boot into recovery and install Xposed Framework. If you had followed the guide about installing Xposed Installer, you would have seen to change the install option from Classic Write to Recovery. You would then bypass the message in your screenshot and gone straight to the install through recovery.
You must be rooted and have a working busybox and recovery installed for Xposed Framework to install/work.
Also, Xposed Framework will not make any bit of difference to Mount2SD or any apps like that. They will still not work. However, Xposed Framework does have some great modules that tweak a phone.

I received the OTA for 5.0.1 last week and received an error. Is there a way for me to install the OTA without wiping my phone?
I've spent the last week looking over the forums and haven't found an answer. Any help will be appreciated as I really want to avoid wiping to get the update if possible. Thanks!
Are you on stock recovery? I realize if you did the full conversion, it would have installed stock recovery. But just wanted to make sure you didn't flash a custom recovery after that.
Also, on the topic of wiping the phone, I would recommend backing up any important data in any case, if you don't already. There is never a guarantee against data loss even with an OTA; or just losing data from day to day usage for that matter.
Yea, I'm on stock recovery still. I was hoping to be done with too much modding and wanted to stay completely stock after the conversion, with the exception of root.
I did use SDfix: Kitkat Writeable MicroSD which changes some system files so apps can write to the microSD, could this be my problem?

a recovery.log would be useful here to see where the ota fails.
pure guessing : I think if you've messed with the system partition (SDfix) it is likely what is causing your problem (infamous "unexpected content" error in recovery while installing ota).
I'll post one this evening. Where is a quick explaniation of how to the report?

If any system files have been altered by root, the OTA will fail. You either need to return the files to the exact "stock" condition, or re-install the stock ROM.
Sorry, what I meant was, how do I view the Recovery.log? I did a search in root browser and turned up nothing. Cache folder is empty.
The SD fix app should have made a back up copy of the original look in /etc/permissions and it's platform.xml the original will have original pre sdfix in the file name..
I had a failed attempt of OTA and it stated that my "platform.xml " was the reason.
Like @graffixnyc said only you you will have to rename the platform.xml to platform.bak and the platform.presdfix to platform.xml as it's the unmodified xml you need.

you can :
- reboot in recovery, try to apply ota, view the recovery.log in recovery menu, adb pull it and eventually post it....
- or assuming your issue is because of the modification of platform.xml as @graffixnyc and @jball stated, switch it with its backup (same dir) and then retry the ota.
Hello everyone,
As I'm sure everyone knows, Niantic has blocked rooted phones from playing with the most current update 0.37. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to find a ROM that will work on our phones and we can install magisk to be able to play with the latest update. If not, is there any other possible solution to play with the use of magisk or without giving up root completely. I'm currently running PaulPizz and have not tried any of the possible methods I have found from fear of losing root permanently. I'm open to any suggestions or ideas.
Thank you.
Try going to the Samsung Note 4 international section.. I just flashed a Note 7 port to my wife's phone and it rocks..
Could you possibly link to which one? Is it this one? Xerrum525 N7 FullFramework PortedRom for SM-N910C / SM-N910H
Also did you use magisk with it to use pokemon go?

What I did was install PaulPizz. Once it finished I deleted the SuperSU folder via TWRP.
It booted up fine, I still had the SU app in my drawer, I did full unroot via SU. I then flashed the uninstall for Xposed and now I can play pogo.
I Haven't been able to get Magisk to work... I get unable to detect boot image. I'm unrooted for now on PaulPizz and can play PoGo 0.37

I downloaded an older version of the app from http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/niantic-inc/pokemon-go/.
I uninstalled the new version. Reinstalled the older. Ran fine. I've heard they'll force an update sooner or later but its good for now.
I also made sure to turn off auto app updated in settings.
I did find a solution using PaulPizz and magisk. It relatively follows most other tutorials. Plus I found a way to toggle magisk with tasker, if anyone is interested. I'll post a step by step tomorrow or possibly later tonight. Sorry to make everyone wait.
So this is how I got it work with PaulPizz ROM for Verizon Note 4 retail converted to Dev edition.
I take no credit for the creation of the files required for this install, but I kind of muttled my way through this installation and got the files from different posts so credit is to go to the creators of these files, I am just redistributing. If someone feels the need to take credit for these please feel free to let me know.
Make sure to download all apks and zips before and place on sd card before hand to save time. I have also included the uninstaller for magisk version of xposed if you would like, do not use this one during the installation of magisk to remove xposed though.
Only flash xposed and install apk if you still want xposed, if not you can skip those files.
1. Do a full backup of phone using TWRP
2. Go into SuperSU settings and do full unroot
3. Reboot into recovery and mount system partion
4. Go to advanced in recovery and select File explorer
5. Navigate to system and delete .supersu file
6. Flash xposed-uninstaller-20150831-arm.zip and reboot system
7. Install pokemon go 0.37 and make sure it works at this point
8. Reboot into recovery again and flash Magisk-v6.zip, 1473968610260_phh-superuser-17-magisk.zip, and 1473980489208_xposed-v86.5-arm-alt-sdk23-topjohnwu.zip
9. Clear dalvik and cache and reboot system
10. After apps optimize install Magisk manager and Xposed Installer
11. Reboot and enjoy playing the new update. Just use Magisk Manager to turn root on/off at will before or after playing.
I'm going to create the tasker profile tomorrow and post instruction on that once completed to automatically activate Magisk when opening pokemon go.
If there are any questions, I will do my best to answer.

When are you getting that, when you flash the zip or install the apk? I'm guessing that's when you flash the included Magisk_6.zip. You are rooted using the retail to dev on an N910V model? I would maybe backup your current system and restore from before you unrooted and try again possibly.

I tried going back to CPD1 and still no luck.
I appreciate you letting me know.
I used the Kyubi rom and uninstalled root with supersu and installed all of the magisk stuff and it works like a charm. All of the xposed modules work good too with the system less xposed. It takes a while to boot up after flashing magisk and clearing cache but worth it. The buddy system is pretty cool lol

Well I have magisk installed but I dont know if the xposed went through entirely it says it flashed ok but according to the installer I don't have xposed installed? What's going on did I do something wrong
Did you remove the old xposed app after the flag and install the new xposed apk also? I think mine did the same, because I forgot to also install the xposed app after flashing the systemless xposed framework.
I was able to full unroot, delete the super su file in twrp. when I flash the Xposed uninstaller it removes the framework but leaves the APk in a form that I can't delete.
If I flash magisk and all the other stuff it goes through fine, but when I try to toggle root off in magisk it turns itself back on within a few seconds. I'm assuming this is because i didn't get Xposed all the way off?
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help.
Magisk will refuse to unroot while xposed is still there in the system form. Even a piece of it.
Well now I got Xposed off using tibu before I unroot. Everything installed, systemless Xposed registered as being active, but when I try to toggle root in magisk I get the same thing with it turning itself back on. If I try to request root privileges from an app I am told i have no root.
Ideas?
Hello guys,
I moved yesterday to Android Marshmallow on my Htc one m8 with a customROM and I am just wondering, why I can't delete any system apps. I tried to Google the thing, but I get over and over advertisement and reviews about Android Marshmallow. Nothing that helps.
I tried to delete them with several tools and manually with a data explorer. Nothing worked. It seems like the system is restoring itself. Is there any way to "fix" my problem?
It seems like it's not a device-specific thing, so I've decided to ask in the general Q and A section.. I am sorry, if this wasn't correct.
Thank for any help!
What custom ROM?
This device has write protection on the system partition, even with root. But most custom ROMs have the mod applied to bypass the write protection (and allow such changes). So its surprising to see this issue on a custom ROM.
If using a file explorer, try to change the permissions on the folder to RW (rewrite) and see if that helps.

Strange, it should work.
Did you dirty flash the ROM? If so, that may have something to do with the bug.
Did you try to mount as RW in the file explorer, as I suggested?
Or you can try to flash wp_mod, which is normally how you would remove the system write protection on the stock Sense ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/rom-stock-unlocked-developer-sense-7-t3262894
Highly suggest to make a TWRP backup of you current ROM and user data, before flashing the wp_mod; in case the mod causes any problems. Not sure if this mod will play well with a custom ROM that has all the modifications like Viper.

No, I did a full wipe before flashing the ROM on a clean, stock ROM. I mounted system as RW in the file explorer, yes, but it didn't work. I am going to look for some other ways, if them doesn't work, I will try the file you linked. Thank for your help and ideas!
Did you look at the Viper thread, to see if its a known problem, or any fixes?

I've searched for "uninstall" and "uninstall system", but it seems like I am alone.
One guy, who had the similar problem, was suggested to use Titanium to uninstall. After that he didn't respond anymore.
Titanium didnt work for me, too.
