Cannot register SIP / VoIP account "due to unavailable Internet connection" - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

Hi,
when I try to add my SIP account in the settings of the caller app, after the creation of the account I get an error message saying "Cannot register due to unavailable internet connection" (error message translated back from German, so probably not the exact wording of the English version).
The settings are definitely correct. Any ideas?
build npns25.137-24-1-9
Thanks in advance!

Are you sure that mobile data is on? Not wifi. And can you browse Internet? If yes (or no), check with your carrier, maybe additional APN is needed

Are you serious? Yes, obviously I made sure that the Internet connection works.

OK, I was able to resolve the problem. It seems to be a bug in Android:
There is an option that says "Receive incoming calls (may deplete battery faster)" (as above wording is modulo translation back from German). EVEN IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO RECEIVE INCOMING CALLS VIA SIP, ENABLE THIS OPTION. Then create the SIP account. Then the registration works. Afterwards, you can deselect the option again.
Seems ridiculous, but this is what finally helped on my phone.

Outgoing calls not working on Gingerbread SIP account

Has anybody, running Gingerbread / CyanogenMod 7, tried using the built-in SIP stack?
I'm able to connect to my Aretta VOIP account successfully over wifi, and I can receive incoming calls on my Evo. But when I try to place an outgoing call, nothing happens.
I select the SIP adddress in the call log (say [email protected]), and instead of going to the call screen, it just flashes back to the call log.
Anybody else try this? I'm wondering if anybody has successfully made outgoing calls using their SIP account in 2.3.
Thanks!
I've been able to make sip calls using sipgate plus Gvoice callback

I have an account setup with Pbxes.org to make calls using my google number, and it works great, better than Sipdroid on froyo i gotta say.... i have sucessfully received and made calls. not sure what your problem might be
Hmm...
Well, that's encouraging.
Do you guys change any of the options under "Optional settings"? I have tried leaving the outbound proxy address blank, and have also used my server address there. Neither seemed to make a difference.
If either of you guys want to share your settings (minus sensitive info), that might help.
Thanks!

well i didnt really change any settings tho... just used my username password and server, and i checked the box to make it my primary account.
Huh... I wonder what gives.
I'm able to place calls just fine using CSipSimple.
I'm updating to #5 build of CM7, so maybe that will help.
Worked for me, though the sound volume is far too quiet in SIP calls.
It also doesn't work for me (HTC Desire, Oxygen RC7).
same for me
I can recieve calls.
I can use fring, 3cx or sipdroid correctly.
But each time i use the built in app of gingerbread it says "Numero indisponible" which is unready number. If someone has a fix
thanx
I'm having the same issue on a Nexus One running CM7 build 30. Inbound works fine, SIP account is registered. But outbound fails without a message. The screen just goes to the call-log with no sign of an error. I'm trying to enter a regular phone number, ie: +1-212-555-1212 because that's what I do from my other registered SIP phones. My provider is voip.ms
One thing that struck me, where is the dial-plan? And if there is none, what is the proper format for dialing numbers?
I'm having the same issue as mentioned in the OP...Incoming calls work fine, but outgoing calls do nothing. (SIPdroid works fine)
Has anyone been able to find a solution for outgoing calls?
CM7 sip
EVO runing cm7 can recive called just fine, just can not make any calls. No error just closes the dialer when you try to place a internet call.
However the Desire CDMA running CM7 can make and recive internet calls just fine.
Is anyone working on a fix for the evo sip problem?
CM7 sip dial
OK I got the built in dialer to let me make internet calls, if you leave the secret blank on the sip server you are connecting to it will let you make and recive calls with the CM7 gingerbread SIP
Any ideas how to make android 2.3 work correctly with a SIP secret?
In sipdroid and other similar apps, I have the option to set a STUN server, which is needed to make calls if you are behind a NAT. There's no option in the gingerbread's sip settings to set a STUN address. There's an Outgoing proxy option but if I set that as my STUN server adress, the account won't register.
Any help would be appreciated.
Edit:
I manged to make it work. I've set the address for Outgoing proxy the same as the server address. No I can make and recieve calls over the native android SIP client
Not connecting because there's no internet connection
I'm having issues (release and #38) with the integrated SIP not registering because it believes there's no internet connection when in fact there's an active 4G connection. SIP works fine (obviously with MUCH worse quality) over 3G so it seems there's some bug with 4G either dropping actually, reporting that it's dropped when it isn't or blocking SIP. I don't think it's the latter since CSIPsimple works in similar circumstances over 4G. Overall since 3G works perfectly most of the time it seems to be a 4G issue. I am also having problems with the mobile data connection dropping despite the integrated and CSIPSimple being set to receive calls and thus presumably always keeping the data connect live.

[Q] Blocking Mode Wont let Any SIP/VOIP calls Through

So I finally got my first Android device and I managed to set up my SIP accounts via SGN2's native SIP client. I can make/receive calls without a problem over WiFi and 3G - I'm happy with my unlimited calls
I'm a big Call/SMS Blocker fan. All my phones has an app installed that blocks ALL unwanted calls/SMS/MMS. So I was happy when I found out the N7100 has a built-in call blocker feature.
It does it's job, ok. BUT, it blocks ALL incoming SIP calls even though I set the settings to custom and added all my contacts with VOIP/SIP numbers to the 'Allowed' list.
The problem somehow lies in the way 'Blocking Mode' filters incoming calls.
All my SIP calls has this pattern [username]@[IP Address] - ex [email protected]
So, even though I already added the SIP numbers with the IP details in my contacts' 'Internet Call' field and the 'Allowed Contacts', the calls are still blocked. It appears only phone numbers aren't filtered out by the Blocking Mode
Is there any solution to this?
Thank you for your time and inputs
My SGN2 N7100 on stock firmware (no plans of rooting for the time being).
I'm guessing you've already verified that what the incoming number looks like matches what you have for their sip address?

Thank you for the reply.
Yes. I tried including all the details in my contact, from the default number to what it looks like when I receive a SIP call.
Normally SIP calls would show in the screen as: SIP[email protected]
The number is still blocked.
Interesting. I'm sorry I have no answers for, and I asked as I do not have any voip set up yet. I was suspecting your voip provider may have sent a base trunk address rather than the originator.
If you find a resolution, please let us know!

that might be your carrier. Who may not allow VOIP calls. e.g Skype does not let KaKaoTalk run voip calls on their 3g network etc etc

I was talking about the built in 'Blocking Mode' in the SGN2.
As stated in my initial post, I have no problems making/receiving calls over WiFi AND 3G.
The issue isn't network related. VOIP calls will go through just fine IF I DISABLE the Blocking Mode feature (i.e. allow all calls)

Advanced Calling 1.0 SIP Account?

Just bought my M9 direct from HTC and activated yesterday.
I went to activate Advanced Calling 1.0 in the settings and that all worked. Came up on my account and everything.
Now I can make HD calls if I manually dial out, but if I try to call from existing contacts it tells me I need an SIP Account. It asks for a Username, Password, Server, and some other normal server things. Tried Googling it and got nothing for a Verizon SIP account.
Anyone else having problems with Advanced Calling?
Nobody knows anything about this?

yes.... the problem for the OP is he's likely not on that setting so it's trying to do internet calling for all his contacts that show hd capable.

SIP calling does not work

SIP calling option does not work on my HTC One M9. Did anyone else see this behavior. I set the SIP calling setting to 'Ask for every call'. SIP aaccount registers fine (for receiving calls).
When I make the call, I select Internet call and then select the SIP account, but then the call still goes out as 'Verizon' ..
What could I be missing here?
phone details
stock/non-rooted
android 5.0.2
baseband - [email protected]
build - 1.33.605.15 CL511781 release-keys
(essentially latest OTA version from vzw)
thanks!
You need to have their sip connection added to their contact. Are you sure you are using sip contacts?

Don't think I follow you. The number I dial can be dialed via SIP account (or) my VZW number, based on where I am. How do I specify a SIP contact..? It's just a 10 digit phone number, no?
Maybe I am missing something here?

In that case, it sounds like your registration is still failing phone side and it's defaulting to cell.. I can't help you there...

ah, that makes sense.. i see a 'receiving calls' text under the account name and thought it's registered. app tries to register again while making an outbound call and it's failing.. so any way i can see the log or something similar to pin down the cause?

Still have not been able to make the outbound SIP calling work.. The SIP account registers just fine (says 'Receiving Calls'). Perhaps the phone is diverting SIP calls via VoLTE even after selecting the appropriate SIP account to call from. Disabling the advaced calling option is not helping either...
This is very weird. Anyone else successfull in making an outbound call via SIP account (via callcentric/localphone account etc) from M9??

Nope - I'm now on Marshmallow and no solution yet. Perhaps VZW blocks outbound SIP for some weird reason

Same phenomenon with my HTC 10. I used SIP calls with htc one X for a long time, switched to HTC 10 with same settings. When I make a call, wierdly it is redirecting to operator.
Could not find anything on HTC website.
Maybe it is related with android versions.
oneX's version as I remember was Kitkat
10's version is Marshmallow
Are you using the native SIP? Have you tried a third party app? I currently use Grandstream Wave with no issues (MM, stock, rooted).

Native VoIP Client Problem

Hello,
I have configured the native VoIP client with my SIP account and I'm connected to the service. While I get incoming calls and enabled the VoIP Account for inbound and outbound calls I can't select or choose to call someone with the VoIP account. Only Sim 1 and Sim 2 appear in the caller. Even when I select it as primary account to call.
Can anyone help me with that strange issue ..I have the same problem also on a CM13 phone. Even Client is connected and configured I can't call someone with the SIP account not even the test/check number.
Thanks
You have to set up a contact with a 'sip phone number' under SIP/internet call [further down on a new contact's page] and use that when calling. AFAIK the dialer does not support the entering of sip numbers.

Has anyone else got this to work please? When I set up a new contact, I don't see any input field for SIP/internet call. The telephone field only has the usual options: mobile, home, work other, and custom.
I'm running Oxygen 5.0.6 on the OPO 3T. Many thanks.

It is there. First name, then below that company, then phone no. and then SIP. You are searching in the wrong place viz. under phone no.
If you are using the Google Contacts app, I don't know whether it is available there. I am on the AOSP Contacts ver. 1.7.31

I'm using the native contacts app (v.2.2.0) on Oxygen OS and the SIP field is definitely not there. Adding a new contact gives me the following fields, in order: Saving to; Name; Phonetic name; Company; Title; Phone; Email; Address; Website; Notes.

Then that is the issue. I am on Nitrogen Pie and Contacts app is built in. Install Google Contacts and see whether you get this field.
