New Mi Max and a few questions about Custom Roms - Xiaomi Mi Max Questions & Answers

Hi Guys,
I have ordered a Mi Max and would like to use a Custom Rom in any case. I have a few questions.
My Mi Max is the 4GB + 128GB. This is the Prime> Helium> is right, right?
I ask about the right Rom.
In recent years, I had Samsung, LG, HTC etc. and all with Root and Custom Rom.
With each of the devices there was always some small problem with CM or similar Rom.
My s7 edge for example had always sound problems with lineage.
My LG G4 had to fight with receiving (Signal) problems and so on.
Running the CM, Lineage, AOSP Rom on the Mi Max stable? No bugs as described above?
My favorite Rom is the Resurrection Remix. I would like to use this on the Mi Max.
…and
I have to first release my Mi Max at Xiaomi for the bootloader Unlock, as with LG> right?
If this is done I can open the Bootloader with the Flasher Toolkit. Then TWRP flash and then the Custom Rom from the SD card.
So far as everything is right?
I do not want to destroy the Device on the first day by ignorance
Sorry for the many questions.
About a bit of help I would be very happy.
Many Thanks.

You're right about the bootloader unlock to get going with custom ROMs. Once you apply for the unlock the response time can vary, but it's only a few days max.
I haven't used a custom ROM for about a month now, back on stock MIUI. I ran with Lineage OS and Remix for a while and I'd say they both had a few minor issues, but nothing that would stop you using them as a daily driver.
Fyi, there are audio issues on some custom ROMs, especially regarding the volume output of the external speaker, I think there might be a patch for this but Lineage OS was noticeably quieter than stock MIUI. I didn't find camera performance to be all that hot, and I suffered from media issues on all custom ROMs with some new photos not showing up in Google Photos but still being present on the device. Still not sure what the cause was...but it wasn't fixed during my time with those ROMs. Unfortunately, I couldn't live with that as I use my camera daily, hence the switch back to stock.
Anyway, there are issues but nothing too extreme.
YMMV

Zenfone 2 roms & what should I go for?

Hello so I am still loving every bit of my zenfone 2 and all but the rom I am using is no longer being updated as the OP no longer has the device I was wondering what the users here suggest I like blisspop rom but I don't like that the camera just looks bad in stock gaps app and the zenfone 2 app by asus looks so good in comparison I know there is a sorta ported camera app for cyanogen based roms and all but every time I use that it seems to crash the app for some reason.
Thanks for the help also is there still a app compatibility issue on the cyanogen zenfone 2? Sorry again just returning after about 7 months with the same rom on my phone.
Currently on: Prism Barebone V12.5
Zenfone 2 4G version
I highly recommend Echoe Zen Rom. It's currently the best out there for me.

Back up everything and move to either Stock CM 13 or CM 12.1, I prefer CM 13 as it is performing much better than CM 12.1. Yeah I agree Google Camera/ CM camera are not as good as Asus Camera or at least doesn't have too many options, but hey there is always play store where you can download other 3rd party camera apps. If you can cope with that, I think CM 13 is the best option.

I have decided on blisspop 6.1 PS any ideas for camera? I find for some reason the google camera app has way to much static compared to stock asus camera app.
Why don't you stick with Barebone v 12.5 until official MM arrives? Do you experience any issues/bugs?
I am currently on V12.5 with xposed + amplify, removed few more apps and with BORETS24's kernel. The device runs smooth and I get around 5hrs SOT (battery lasting 2 full days). And I have everything enabled (data, wifi, location..).
I tried Echoe's rom but it just has too much bloatware for me. I installed it, wasted 2 hours setting it up and deleting useless stuff only to realise that it is not as responsive as Prism's Barebone v12.5. So I'm sticking with v12.5 even though it wont be updated anymore.
If it aint broke, don't fix it!

I switched because well as much as I love a stock asus based rom my issue is I want more themeing options and Asus just dont have and I don't think will offer 3rd party again besides I do love some of the AOSP roms out there like blisspop but I am now expirenceing an issue with my phone This is before I even opted to install blisspop as I have not done it yet for some reason I am able to access TWRP through adb reboot recovery on windows but I can't access my bootloader using the power and volume down or adb reboot bootloader and I am not sure why at the moment. I like my phone like I like my linux pc with themeing options
Edit: Flashing blisspop 6.0.1 did not fix my bootloader issue and I also tried flashing the boot.img manually

Yeah sorry I meant up and it still dont work I can only access recovery but through adb if I try and load the bootloader the asus logo just sits there and after like a minute the phone reboots and sists on asus logo again if I turn off device manually and turn it on normal the phone turns on so I am not 100% sure what is going on its really weird

New to Android - Which ROM should I use?

I was WP/iOS user and recently switched to Android. Just got my OP3, which is my first Android device. I am wondering, which custom ROM should I get. I kinda need more battery life and SOT so I want to ditch the OOS.
Do note that I have literally 0 use for fingerprint scanner, android pay and camera (well, not fully but any mediocre quality camera/pictures will work).
Also, I would appreciate if there is any guide or video tutorial, showing the whole process of custom ROM installation.
I would recommend Cyanogenmod 13.0 with Elemental X kernel.
Here is a tutorial to unlock bootloader and install TWRP Recovery
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQoYTvV1PNM
And here is a tutorial on how to install Cyanogenmod 13.0

OOS is a great near-stock rom tbh, but if you still want to try another I'd recommend Sultan's CM
Would recommend you to stay with stock as you may feel all this tweaking thing a bit laggy (coming from iOS , which doesn't let you even customize properly) but for sake of having the taste of tweaking :
Its a 2 part step
1) Unlocking bootloader , installing TWRP , backing up your data (as this will completely wipe out your phone) including whats app (using google drive built-in feature) and messages (using "SMS back up and restore" available in Play Store) . Avoid using links provided in video discriptions

TWRP Recovery : https://dl.twrp.me/oneplus3/twrp-3.0.2-1-oneplus3.img.html
2 ) Installing Custom Rom close to stock with patched Kernal would be better for you to address battery and SOT issue and lot of audio mods , I would suggest freedom OS 1.6 CE ,

I'd say OOS on stock has the best battery. If you want some rock hard stability along with battery, go for ElementalX kernel on OOS. If you dont want OOS so badly, then go for sultanxda s rom.

I've never been interested in securing my phone and thought I would not use the FP scanner but found it is the quickest and easiest way to unlock the phone so I use and love it now. Just a quick press and the phone is ready to go instead of a double-tap + swipe etc. I suggest you get familiar with OOS for a while before you jump.
Resurrection Remix Blackjubel is great
There es elementalx Kernel preinstalled
It's smooth and stable and battery life is also good.
And you have many in build Features so you don't have to install xposed.
@arandomdude, this poll might shed some light on your question: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/help/september-rom-kernel-mega-poll-t3456213.

Just at OOS, just root it, install Xposed and use Amplify and Greenify. It'll boost your SOT a lot. Also don't use Chrome browser. It drains battery a lot.
No one can tell you what the best custom ROM for you is as everyone's preferences vary, my advice stick to stock for now . SOT will improve over the first week of usage and you need to get to know the device / OS before choosing a rom to mitigate any perceived weaknesses. Take your time assessing new roms, as I said SOT will take about a week to stabilise. Above all enjoy yourself it only takes a few minutes to flash a new rom do why not try them all.
New to android?
Then start reading, you have a hell lot of things to learn, don't blindly jump into what random users says is good, laziness will damage your phone and diminish your trust in Android

looking for a good non-google custom rom.

hi everyone,
I have recently bought a mi max 3. Miui is far from my favourite however, and i am looking for a good non-google custom rom. There are so many choices for roms that i find it difficult to decide, and trying every single one seems a tedious task that is hardly worthwile. I have a week to decide, as xiaomi made me wait to unlock the bootloader. Obvious sidenote: I intend to root the device as well.
The custom rom i am looking for should support the following features (in order of importance)
- works without Gapps
- strong encryption (password different from lockscreen)
- decent battery performance (longer lasting battery has preference)
- fast and smooth (the more lightweight the better)
- gesture support (should be standard anyway (the screen is huge, i can't be bothered to reach for the navbar )
- due to rollback protection, it needs to be at least android pie/ android 10(?) - is it worth waiting for android 10 custom rom releases?
I know many of these requirements can be met by using apps as well, but if it is included or easier with the custom rom it certainly has my preference.
I am currently looking at:
- lineage OS (has been my driver for the past years)
- AEX
- Syberia OS
- evolution X
- havoc OS
- resurrection remix
additions are more than welcome
note: i assume TWRP recovery and Magisk for root are still decent options. if not, please let me know

Don't worry about Anti Rollback because it's only for miui first.
Arb lvl need to be the same to rollback on miui but never go to an older one. But since a while on miui we're still on lvl 5.. but on custom ROM it's useless.
For root as always.
Unlock bootloader
Flash orange fox (only recovery supporting encryption)
Flash magisk
Reboot
And if I were you I'll try crdroid or aosip. On my side I'm the actual maintainer of aosio derpfest and stay on it since months. RR is a bit heavy and Cerberus is very clean if you want less. For those I build or builded... For the others Evolution x and havoc are very featured. And aex is lighter than oreo version if you already tried it in past.
You got others ROMs for that consider to join my channel @Nitrogencloud on telegram. Gismobe post more there than xda.
For nogapps just don't flash any gapps. Most of the ROM are provided without any

Thanks for the reply.
I got an error trying to check arb on my device, but if it does not matter for custom roms that's peachy af.
Q1: I remember encrypting my previous phone which had TWRP on it, that seemed to work fine. Did not know about orange fox previously, will look into that. How is Orange fox different from regular TWRP (specifically with encryption)?
Q2: In terms of built-in app permission control, how do cerberus, AEX, crdroid and aosip compare?
Q3: and (last question, promise) with regards to updates, I noticed aosip derpfest does not support ota updates, and crdroid seems to support ota. my previous experience with dirty flashing updates, is best summarized as: "chugging down coffee at midnight trying to unbrick my phone". Not looking forward to that -again, so i prefer the possibility of OTA updates. what would you recommend?
Thanks for your quick reply, appreciate it.

Stable aosp rom for 8T

Hello
I just recently bought a Redmi 8T that has MIUI Global 11.0.9 installed.
I am not so keen on MIUI, it looks great but I just feel more comfortable using an aosp based rom.
I see there are quite a few custom roms for these devices. Can anyone recommend an aosp based rom that is stable enough as a daily drive? I don't mind so much about having the latest Android version, I'd prefer stability than the latest.
A few added features to the rom would be even better,
Thanks,
I tried pixel experience, paranoid android, and as usual, lineage. I found paranoid to be the best so far, with pixel experience being second and lineage the "worst".
Why so?
PE I tried to return to, yet something worked wrong and after I flashed the ROM, device said there's no OS. That's why it's second, otherwise I liked it.
With lineage, whatever is said to work does work, but there's one huge problem for me: when I plug in my earphones, apps like WhatsApp or Telegram go mad. Also with lineage I am stuck with using only raw_sensor, and I don't like it. Yet if/when they'll fix this earphone problem, I'm considering returning to it simply because they way I'm used to using my phone is more possible by it.
There are some things I don't like with paranoid, which you can read from the thread if you like, but for now I'm there and can recommend with its limitations.

Best custom rom for Mi A2 lite

1.Which is the fastest, smoothie, bettery saving custom rom for Mi A2 lite?
2.Which is the fastest, smoothie, well optimised(ram management aslo) custom rom for Mi A2 lite?
Please help me and thanks in advance.
I went through several custom ROMs and ended at Android 10 crDroid. Even though most custom ROM devs now switched to Android 11 (R) development, from my experience the R ROMs are still too new and too buggy for daily use. A custom ROM probably won't help you save much battery, but for RAM management, you'll see massive improvements given how terrible it is on stock.

fast system, but it has its own problems as in other custom firmwares. As I understand it, no custom firmware developer is able to fix some bugs due to the fact that some bugs are found on absolutely all firmware for several versions of android in a row.

What's the situation now? I realised that the phone is no longer getting security updates which is not great. I haven't flashed custom in years, but I remember it was a bother to get banking apps working. Is it still a problem? What's the most reliable and secure custom out there?

Almost all of the custom ROM available for Mi A2 lite is very stable and bugless. Ram management was never a problem in custom ROMs and battery life provided by customs is very near to stock ROM ( keep in mind the battery is very old).
Banking apps should work fine. But it also depends upon the app itself. You can pass safety net and app requiring only safety net should work fine.

There isn't a "best", your experience will determine which is the best for you. I have tried POSP, arrow, crDroid 7 and all of them are very stable and up-to-date. They differ only in customizations and such. Search what do you want and see the specific features of each ROM.
Battery life and stability cannot be compared across users and different ROMs. You can choose any one of the ROMs, all of then are very good for daily usage.

I've found unofficial LOS 18.1 the most stable. Almost no issues.
