Hey I'm new here, and was looking for some help, and hoping I'm posting this in the right place.
When I say WiFi sharing I mean sharing my connection using the WiFi I'm connected to not my phones hotspot data.
I did a little bit of research looking around for a way to do this, and I found out my girlfriends g5 can do it and my g3 can too with a ROM I flashed. Fulmics LGG3 Android 6.0 rom to be exact. I now have a Note 3 and was wondering if there was a way to add this feature to it. :fingers-crossed:
I also found this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2215003
Which basically talked about the same thing on a iPhone, using f2router, pdanet, and even WiFi sharing via USB, but these are not what I am looking for.
(If you own a g5 or flashed Fulmics Rom give it a go Settings>Network>Tethering>Wifi-Hotspot go to "Setup WiFi Hotspot" scroll down and there's a check box for Share via connected wifi.)
You are certainly in the wrong spot but lets get you in the right direction before you get flamed .
XDA has a separate section for almost every device. You'll want to start at the base Note 3 section. There you will find several specific sections. I'd start with rooting the device and getting a custom ROM in one of the Development sections that suits your device/carrier needs. If you have questions and need help with your Note 3, post a question in the GALAXY NOTE 3 Q&A, HELP & TROUBLESHOOTING section.
The Wifi hotspot is not unique to the G3, and on stock ROMs most carriers charge you extra to allow you to use a Wifi hotspot on your device. You were able to use it on the Fulmics ROM because it's enabled without the interaction with your carrier or the stock ROM. Fulmics is based on a stock international ROM I believe and is heavily modified/enhanced. I'm betting every custom ROM you find for the Note 3 will allow you to use the Wifi hotspot at no extra cost from your carrier.
I hope that gets you pointed in the right direction, Good luck! :highfive:

You could start with that, yes. However I recommend getting a custom ROM on your Note 3 first. A custom ROM should have the Wifi sharing you are seeking.

No offence, but I specifically said not sharing my hotspot data, and it seemed like that's what you were trying to point me to. I know wifi tether is available for most devices but what i am talking about is different hence my reason for making this post. I will take your advice and look at ROMs available for my device. (I'm rooted+twrp+xposed+stockrom for now anyway lol.)

You're right, I only skimmed your posts, because I'm trying to point your Note 3 questions far away from the LG G3 section. XDA noobs usually get flamed hard when they post in ridiculous places, so I was hoping to prevent that.

For those of us getting the phone tomorrow, two questions for those who already have it and are rooted...
1) is wifi tether possible without the tetherng package added to your account?
2) is USB tethering possible without the tethering package added to your account?
Not looking for a debate on the morality / legality of tethering, just asking a question...
Do you think the DEV section is the right place for your questions?
Yeah sorry I'm in tapatalk. Clicked the wrong forum. Mods feel free to move it.
Thanks for the lecture, btw.

verizon will probably block it but aosp based roms and cm9 will fix that
i cant wait to tether though, this is gonna be my first 4g phone and to be honest i hate my home internet(i have fiber optic but i have to share it with like 5 other people so its slow lol)
I figured that...I was hopeful there might be a simple fix to enable it on the stock ROM.

you can probably change some of the settings in the programming menu but that could cause your phone to not work anymore, i would wait for ether cm9 or you can flash one of the LTE G-nex roms available here, that should remove what ever verizon put on the phone
I've been searching relentlessly for a way to get Wireless Tether for Root Users to work on my brand new VZW Galaxy Nexus.
No dice. The Dev has been notified.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/issues/detail?id=1257
If you install the latest BETA version and select the Samsung Galaxy S2 under device profiles, it ALMOST works, throughs in error in the log: "Activating WiFi interface.... FAILED"
Totally crushed about this. Not sure if it's happening due to a VZW side safeguard or if it's simply a progrmaming issue the dev can fix :\
I'm sure they will get this figured out sooner rather than later...hope so, anyway.

Check out Koush' tweets. He posted one about 9 hours ago saying he's developing a rootless tethering app, should be available soon. Gotta love the android community
i can confirm that both wireless tether and pdanet do NOT work on the LTE nexus.
I have been trying to figure out two things with this ROM that perhaps someone can point in the right direction on:
1. WI-FI tether seems to be inconsistent, slow or not useable when tethered to my New Ipad compared to the speed I get directly to my phone. Not looking for exact same speed, just basic functionality. Is there any special settings I need to configure to make it work better?
2. Gmail - Why can't I email out to my gmail groups? I used to be able to when it was stock and even rooted...a basic function that I need multpile times daily and REALLY need a work around fast.
Thanks a ton!
You should try the CM10 thread or Q&A.
I would love to but don't know where that is at.
Thanks

Posting something once in the wrong location. Okay sure no problem... but posting it TWICE one after another, in the same wrong location... come on...
And then, trying to placate your ignorance by giving some BS excuse about not knowing where it's at...? If you have the ROM and have it installed, you've obviously been around enough to know how to go about getting it which would incidentally make it equally as possible that you could find where it's at.
It's quite obvious that you posted here because you thought it was going to get "more attention."
I refuse to condone these actions, and thus I will not help you. Good luck to you, sir.

Ive been looking around and researching on how to get wifi calling on AOSP roms. I have made what I believe to be a big discovery. T-mobile now uses IMS for newer android phones, which is UMA/sip etc. I decompiled the ims-service.apk from the stock DLJA rom. I found an XML that contains the settings to use the service! You can get the IMS installer from here http://code.google.com/p/the-ims-open-source-project-for-android/
I put the settings into the app and tried connecting but it came up with ER05, invalid SIM card. I googled that and it I get leads to saying that the sim isn't authenticated for WIFI calling. I know that it is, because it works fine on stock roms. I've also attached a logcat of me attempting to connect. I've attempted to change some of the info of the strings to reflect my personal phone number but that did not change anything.

Sounds like what he discovered was the xml file with the config in it, but it seems like there must be more to it than that, since it didn't work.

So I took part in a survey this morning sent from T-Mobile. They had some very interesting questions pertaining to Wi-Fi Calling and AOSP ROMS, specifically if I was running on a rooted device, and if I was able to get Wi-Fi calling enabled on whatever ROM I was using. They had other questions about Wi-Fi Calling and how much I would use it, etc...Apparently they're recognizing the community and are starting to ask the right questions. I like this line of thinking!

Let us not assume they are asking these questions to try and help us.. Everything T-Mobile has ever demonstrated toward the hacking community was finding ways to prevent or patch and progress made.. like they're going to assist us with tethering or wifi calling on custom ROMs.. not going to happen.. They are probably asking so they can investigate how it is working on an AOSP ROM and patch the exploit..

Greetings All!
New convert from a VZW Note 3 to a brand new T-Mo Note 3 I just bought. I have already rooted it.
I have the $80 unlimited plan, which I understand includes 5GB of tether. I need more than that. Mostly as a wifi hotspot, but maybe some USB in a "noisy" area.
I am very familiar with all of the historical methods, including edits on the config files, changing apk files, using third party apps, etc. I am very much an expert on this and definitely not a noob, I just need to know the skinny on how this is done on Magenta.
I just need to know from those who know, what absolutely works and prevents detection, etc. I have seen various things posted, but never seem to have someone state: "This is my method on my rooted phone" and this works perfectly, every time.
Thanks in advance, please advise.

Welcome. There are a number custom roms here that provide unlimited tethering. I'm using Effortless and it works flawlessly. Also as I didn't want to take away from the stock experience, its pretty much stock. As to a mod that will do the same, I've yet to see one.

Don't bother staying stock if you want unlimited tether. There's nothing that works right now besides wifi tether router app (requires root) that was mentioned to you or custom roms. Rooting with towelroot does not trip knox and you can revert back to stock if you want with ease. I'm stock rooted and everything works for me, including the use of samsung allshare cast dongle.
EDIT: I think I misunderstood and you meant to say you want to stay stock rooted? Then wifi tether router is your only answer.

u can use my stock odex not rooted rom, I have on my thread, look on the 3 post... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51812491#post51812491
you can use my rom and follow those few steps, and as long as your paying for the unlimited u can download my rom which has a few files edited and fixed for unlimited tethering without no extra app needed, I use the wifi tether app from tmobile, and never have had an issue, and don't have to pay for no apps... it just works..
I use my own roms, and also tested them without root, and have unlimited tethering, I use upto 100 - 160gb a month,
what I do, is make a copy of my original rom, and remove the files I don't want, most of the google files u can download from the play store, I remove them all, so when I flash my nice clean rom, I restore the new updated files with titanium backup and am always upto date with my rom..
just letting you know u have a few options to choose from.. :good:
I bought the app, WHEN IT DID WORK, it worked against the gigs of data supplied by t-mobile. Darkstalker and wicked both provide true unlimited hot spot, bluetooth and usb tether.

I don't mind using an app that is proven to work, and if I absolutely had to, I would flash a rom.
But, my preference is to remain stock, and use the stock tether app if at all possible. So, my question remains. Those original instructions were written for an earlier version. Even a donation and a personal thanks to Jovy didn't produce a response to the direct question:

The differences in the NF1 and NF4 versions of the particular files referenced in that instructional guide thread were minimal - the same processes outlined there can be done on NF4. The functional outcomes between doing said processes on NF4 should not differ from those seen on NF1. In my experience it seems like outcomes on mods like this can vary in defiance to such logic, but such variance would apply equally between NF1 and NF4 as well - so again the outcomes on the whole should not differ.
I realize this also falls short of the OP's direct question - but if you redefine the question quoted above to be:
Will these instructions work with the stock NF4 rom the same as they did with the stock NF1 rom?
My answer would be:
Yes.

Good to hear. Thank you for the input. I am not above digging in and getting my hands dirty in the config files, I just wanted to see if someone had done it themselves first and could absolutely verify it works on NF4. I am certainly not afraid to shoot a nandroid backup and then dive right in. I just didn't want to waste the time if there was an NF4 specific issue that had not yet been addressed or was outstanding.

At worst you'd tether and it would still show on your account. So yes, maybe i should have left well enough alone, but you also seem to think that a donation entitles you to anything. Devs donate here all the time, have you donated for every item on xda? And my last point, being a member since 06 you should clearly remember a time if you weren't a dev you couldn't post period you read and absorbed info and thanked the holy stars other people were spending time and effort. I'm sure jovvy appreciates your donation, but he doesn't expect it, as you shouldn't expect to be the teachers pet cause you brought an apple.
So there it is, i guess I'm a **** after all.
I am about to deploy in a couple of days and I just updated my TMO S3 from an old Hyperdrive ROM (4.1.2 based) to the latest SlimROM (4.4.4 based). On the old ROM WiFi for Root users was working just fine, but now I can't seem to get it to work. It appears to turn on, but my tablet does not see the SSID, so I can only assume that it is not actually working. Does anyone have any idea how to make this work? I have run searches and tried to find something obvious, but I have not found anything so far that works. I am now very short on time and don't have several more days to spend looking further. Any suggestions?
Im sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I wanted to suggest posting your question in the roms thread. Not many people check the Q&A lately, and you'd have more people who are familiar with that rom seeing your question.
Good luck!

Appreciate the info...
You could also check if the same rom is available in the AT&T forums. It's a more active forum and their roms are often very nearly identical to the T999's.
