Can I use a Lineage OS Kernel on the OnePlus default image? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

So I know very little about kernels and have been trying teach myself. I would really love to try the white wolf Kernel but before I started asking questions in that thread I would like to take a step back and find out if that is possible to use. I've been trying hard to read all the threads to figure out what image i want to use and what kernel I would like to try. I know everyone raves about Franco's which I would like to try but also would like to keep my options open.
Thanks all!

No, your phone will freak **** if you flash a LOS kernel while on OOS. Operating systems have specific commands that they give to the kernel, the commands are different between OOS and LOS. If you do so, your phone will likely not even be able to boot.

Thanks, I kind of thought that already but wasn't 100% certain and couldn't find anything that said what you said specifically. Thank you for taking the time to explain!

Nope never do this.. Its asking for problems . Keep custom roms and oxygenos seperated.

[Q] New G3 owner with some questions.

I checked several of the threads in the various subforums but since I am currently really busy (have the phone for 3 weeks and I am not using it cause had no time to check XDA ) if you are kind enough I have some questions that spending more time in the threads would probably answer themselves but alas...
A: If I root the G3 can I bring it back to stock without any indication it got rooted (I heard some phones have special logs that show if a phone has been rooted that survive the various flashes), in case I need to send it for service?
B: Should I go with the root method shown on XDA TV (which doesn't show how to install a custom recovery) or one of the one click auto batch scripts?
C: I think generally this question is not allowed cause it can lead to flame but which ROM would you recommend I try first? I need just a clean, smooth running ROM. Disclaimer: Avoid arguing with other users if you disagree with something they said, just state the ROM and if you want your reason for picking it and I will scroll through them and decide.
Much obliged if you care to answer them and apologies to mods if this breaks any rules.

A: You can always go back to stock using LG flash tool with no evidence of rooting nor like samsung's knox
B: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3072767
C: I personally use resurrection remix rom based on CM12 due to performance but if you want fully working G3 with no bugs at all I recommend my favorite rom CupaChups 4.2. Super fast stock base rom with some extra features.
P.S. I recommend you to instal Kernel Adiutor from the play store after you root your G3 and change the governor from default Interactive to Conservative. Cos from some unknown reasons the Interactive governor is bugged on all G3 and changing that will highly increase your performance speed and feel. This works with base and aosp roms also.
Hope this helps
via LG G3 @ Resurrection Remix
Thank you, is there a problem if the phone is already on stock 5.0? Can I still root it with the same methods or must I restore it to 4.4.x? (A simple restore to factory blabla does it?)
Cheers

If you have a look around there's a one click method that works for all G3 variants regardless of software version that is here on the forums. You can use that, download the zip for your desired custom rom, install a custom recovery and then flash the ROM and you should be good to go. There's plenty of guides for you to use, and each custom rom thread should have it's own installation guide

About to recieve a OnePlus 3. Anything I should need to know?

I bought this device today.
I got it because I wanted to get into custom ROMs/Root.
Is there anything I need to know about this phone that will be helpful? Tips & Tricks?
Also I hear talk of Lineage OS vs Oxygen. Which is better and why? (Please don't be LINEAGE OF COURSE FTW, I want reasons. Couldn't find that anywhere)
Should I chose Oxygen beta 8.0, or the Lineage beta for 8.0?
Coming from an LG V10 (AT&T) where I couldn't modify it for ****, and broke after a little over a year (LG Bootloop issue)

The ROM you want to use can only be your decision based on what features you want for example if you want loads of tweaking features then I'd suggest resurrection remix and for the very latest android version then oxygen OS or lineage 8.0 both are good in their own ways you'd have to check the description to see which suits your needs , one big tip I can give you though is to always use the latest blu_spark recovery because its been modified to support a variety of ROMs and if your a flashaholic like me then always perform a nandroid backup before switching ROMs its simple advice but can save you loads of time if you don't like the ROM you've chosen and obviously before trying to unlock the bootloader via adb then enable developer options and enable OEM unlocking (some people forget) good luck and enjoy this wicked phone...

Ah ok thanks for that blu_spark bit, I was just gonna stick with stock kernel, but now I am seeing the benefits of custom ones.

Ah ok thanks for that blu_spark bit, I was just gonna go TWRP since that's all I have heard about, I got drawn in by the LG V10 by marketing, sucked so now going towards a phone that will last. Not having to rely on AT&T for updates is a surefire way to get that.

Xceeder was talking about recovery, not kernel. Since this phone is new for you, certain idiosyncrasies of this phone must be learnt. One of them is the recovery. Ofcourse official TWRP is there but it will not work with many custom ROMs. One of the best recoveries for this phone is made by bluspark who is well-known for his kernels. It is that recovery which Xceeder was talking about. I also use the same.
As regards ROMs, apart from what Xceeder stated, if you are satisfied with a smooth and battery friendly ROM, I can recommend VertexOS. But it will not have any bells or whistles. Another battery friendly and smooth ROM with some tweaks built-in is PureFusion. Both these I have used. But if you need many tweaks, go with Xceeder's recommendations. As he said, ROMs are a personal choice and what I like, you may not. So read about a few, flash a few and finalise.
Advance wishes for a happy experience.

Ah ok only reason I said kernel was because [kernel] was the first thing that came up when I typed in blu_spark.

Does anyone want to take over the multirom manager ?

Does anyone want to take over the multirom manager ?
Sorry to ask it ,if i said something wrong or post wrong place plz forgive me.
since the developer have no time to fix it, i hope someone want to take over the project.
it's sadly of oneplus 3 have so many developers but no one have interest to multirom.
But the irony is that some devices have the worked multirom but no worked rom to flash.
The god of destiny makes fools of the people.op3 have many excellent rom but no multirom to use.

Send me a message about it. Not sure what it would require but I've spliced it together enough to run OOS, LineageOS 15 Oreo, and a Kali Linux build today.

Many user face a bootloop and fc problem for a long time.and the developer didn't fix it for several month.maybe he is very busy,do you have any idea?
Here is the problem some user posted
The first load of secondary rom is normal. but the second is usually a bootloop. it happens that the second is normal. But if in the primary roms you touch the system, then again in the secondary bootloop

Question Any path forward from OOS12?

I updated to OOS12 a while back, knowing full well that sources weren't released yet and there would be a wait for custom kernels, etc. However, with the direction OOS is going I'm starting to wonder if we'll ever have the ability to create custom kernels for OOS12, flash ROMs without downgrading first, etc. Looking for input from anyone who typically follows OP development topics:
1) Do we have any expectation they'll ever release sources for OOS12, or is OP not doing that anymore?
2) Where would those sources be posted, if they release them?
3) What about theming, is there any chance we'll have a root method for changing things that are now part of the theme (like fonts, emojis, boot animation, etc.)? Is there a method for Oppo?
I've considered trying a custom A12 ROM, but I really hate wiping a device I rely on nearly 24/7 so I've always preferred to customize the stock ROM instead. But even if I did, I have no idea which ROM I'd like and don't want to go through that process of wiping, downgrading, flashing a dozen times to try them all out. Do we expect that is going to be the only path to modding OnePlus devices from here on out?
I'm watching to see what happens with the OP10 Pro also, wondering if this new trend is going to continue or if it's going to be worth it for someone like me to upgrade.

Arter kernel has a beta a12 kernel on tg
Don't know if it entails oos or a12 custom. Skimmed by it.
{Mod edit: Quoted post has been deleted}
It's been plenty stable for awhile now. My questions are related to the future of modding on OxygenOS, or if they're becoming a cookie cutter closed platform like everyone else.

Question Help with installing custom rom

Sorry if my English is kinda bad, but I'm a noob at installing custom roms on newer devices and I'm just curious about the risks of it and what is the best recovery and rom for this device. My only experience is with an old j5 2016 and I want to know if there's anything different in the process of installing the recovery and rom on these devices since the age gap is huge.

Nice to meet you! I have a A52 4G. I've flashed a custom OS and recovery on it so I should be able to help you. What exactly do you want to know?
I wanna know the risks, if the process has changed since 2016 and the best rom to start with

There aren't too many risks as long as you know what you're doing, your warranty will be void though and you won't be able to use things like work accounts afterwards. For a Samsung device you use Odin to flash. As for a ROM, I would start with Lineage OS, as it's the most popular and most other ROMs are based on it as well. Let me know if you want more detailed answers.

If you follow the instructions then there are no risks, every device can brick if you flash the wrong files. For starters i would get instructions on how to install TWRP for your phone. From there you have the option to install GSI roms, or Custom Roms made for the A52s, currently on XDA you can find LineageOS 20 and Pixel Experience+ 13, both are Initial builds with (as the time of writing) many bugs, you can find specific details on the posts of the roms here on XDA (be sure to check the comments also, have seen some people find more bugs than initially thought)
I wanna ask if the performance and battery life is affected at all, if it it's is it better or worse. I've had this phone for a year now and I've noticed that the battery life is not amazing, will any of these roms make it better or worse?

In theory it should be better, as LOS is much lighter and doesn't have much bloatware (if any). Like I said, mine was better.
